It is just a crying shame that these guys do not have a mantle full of grammys. They are generational-awesome!
I agree with that completely, makes me upset for them that the music industry ignores them. I dont think they are even nominated, which is unbelievable.
A shame? It's criminal.
That is a master class on how to do harmony pure ear candy.
Amen sir
Truth
So beautiful, so perfect to me! Thanks for your great reaction!
Synchronized precision harmony.
the voice you kept pointing out was actually Rob, Austin was singing the higher harmony above him, but they all sing so dang well it's ok. :)
kinda think Adam Rupp is doing the highs .... the seem to video focus on him in other tunes when there are high parts... he is a machine who says he cant sing high too :)
I grew up listening to CSN & had their album with this song Helplessly Hoping. Absolutely loved them & their harmonies. But I must say since I discovered Home Free they more than do justice to all the songs they cover. And this song is perfection to me with the 5 part harmonies. I can't say enough about how great these guys are & humble while still staying respectful to the original song.
Hey Dagmar
It's been rumored that HomeFree doesn't do covers they do upgrades.
@@jmeyerman I agree!
I still have the Crosby, Stills and Nash vinyl for this. Love Home Free's cover though!
Absolutely love the name Dagmar. Would have named a daughter that if we'd had one.
I love how this song plays with alliteration Helplessly Hoping Her Harlequin Hovers, Wordlessly Watching he Waits by the Window, Love isn't Lying it's Loose in a Lady who Lingers, etc.
While I am aware that the man's name is Adam Chance, it always throws me when someone calls him Adam. To me, he's Chance and Adam is the beat boxer. I'm pretty sure it was Austin on the highest part. It usually is. Other reactors I have heard commented on how mature Rob's voice is and how young and bright Austin's is. I was surprised to hear you comment on the "maturity" of Austin's voice.
One of my favorites from them. Now, on to "How great thou art" and "In the Blood".
Adam Chance came up with the concept and the arrangement for this video and brought it to the others. He has added so much to them since joining. #subscriptionsquad
Yeah he does. They have a fuller richer sound. It makes them more versatile.
Home Free is probably the most versatile group of vocalists anywhere. They sing all genres and I hope you continue to explore their music.
This song kind of does the same but, if you really want to see what each of them can do individually, Don Mclean's re-release of American Pie for its 50th anniversary was done with Home Free and he basically gave each member save the beatboxer their own verse. Don Mclean says he chose Home Free to sing with him because they quote, 'Know harmonies.' (exhibit A: _*gestures to this video*)_ The bass, Tim Foust sings in the middle of his range for his solo but does go low in the background before and after. The beatboxer doesn't get a solo but does his thing for the entire 8 minute song without a break. I hear he nearly passed out. That's dedication right there.
This is dead on.
Foust not Faust
@@miamidolphinsfan Fixed it, thanks
@@stephanginther9051 I always try to correct that because when someone goes to look at it, they might not get stuff for Tim but someone else
@@miamidolphinsfan There is a reactor on RUclips named Tim Faust. His first reaction to Home Free was-Tim Faust reacts to Tim Foust. 😁
Home Free has really two very experienced bass voices, Tim Foust, a basso profundo, and Adam Chance, who sang bass in his prior group, Street Corner Symphony. With Home Free Chance is free to sing baritone and lead. Both have very high ranges and Chance often sings with Rob and Austin on close harmonies. You can hear a difference to Home Free than other a cappella groups when Chance overlays his deep baritone over Tim’s low bass. Rob has an extensive range, but he usually sings from baritone to high tenor, and is usually considered Lead Tenor. Austin has an extremely high range which stays very strong and beautiful. He sang At Last on his channel in Etta’s key. Adam Rupp is a master of vocal percussion, horn, and wind instruments and usually sings baritone or 3rd tenor when they do five part harmonies. They all beatbox, instruments, and sounds when needed.
Actually, Adam Rupp is a tenor. His range lies lower than Austin but higher than Rob. In 5-part harmony pieces when Austin is singing lead, Adam is often the high harmony note above Austin that just goes on forever.
You explain them so well. Thanks playlester
The high harmonies were Austin Brown
Austin Brown is their high tenor, Rob Lundquist is the lower tenor, Adam Chance is their baritone/bass, Tim Foust is the super low bass, some people think he is a basso profundo. He does have a 5-octave range. and their beatboxer is Adam Rupp (and the founder of the group) He is also a tenor when he sings, but he mostly beatboxes.
"I just love the harmonies and the way they blend and I said he has such a rich mature voice and then he came in with an amazing pure tenor harmony and the bass oh the bass is just perfect but it always is and you guys keep telling me that they are all so talented and have such great range ... I'm just speachless." Loved the reaction, Danielle! **grinning**
Speechless. I don’t think this word means what she thinks it means. 😆
speechless.. :)
Danielle Marie, this is one of my most anticipated reactions ever. I hope you enjoy their performance of Helplessly Hoping as much as I have over the years since they released it. Take care.
Thank You for your reaction….the Home Free rabbit hole is such a delightful trip…..you don’t want to ever let it end. Lucky us, as there are so many (over 150+ video) for us to enjoy 🥰🔥‼️
The vocal quality and tone make me think it's Austin on the high part in the trio.
Agreed !!!!!
My favorite of almost every reaction I've heard to Home's Free's stunning cover to Helplessly Hoping is the end where part where the haunting harmonies just stop..... and reactors all get that "child with her candy stolen" look and shout..."It's not over is it???!!! It can't be ....NOOOOOOOOO!"
Their use of space and silence in this is astounding.
Austin, long curly hair, is actually their high tenor. Rob, big bearded guy, is lead tenor. On this one you also had Adam, the beatboxer, singing tenor harmony. Of course Chance started the song and Tim is the bass.
Actually, Rob's register is higher than Austin's...and the band doesn't break down as "high tenor" or "lead tenor". If HF were a typical "band", Austin would be the front man. His voice is stronger and has more....character maybe?... than Rob's. Rob's voice is much cleaner and smoother....typical of choir singers.
Some of the high notes come from ... of all people Adam the beat boxer ... crazy huh ?
@@zencraft3676 the reason a lot of people refer to rob as lead tenor and Austin as high tenor is that's what they are labeled as at the end of a couple vids that have end credits.
generally speaking lead tenor isn't referring to the guy in the lead but the guy who is generally singing melodies in a range in between the high tenor and the baritone which would be rob most of the time.
@@joshbradburn7043 and that has what to do with my response to another person entirety's comment?
@@joshbradburn7043 seems through your lack of understanding you think you are qualified to tell me what to do so let me help you out...
SHE asked who the guy doing the top harmony was.
the guy who started the comment post (toodlescae) answered her question with added information.
zencraft debated some of the information in the original comment.
I commented on his opinion hence why he is tagged in my response.
YOU came in here telling me I don't know what I'M talking about when its obviously YOU who cant follow a conversation yet tried to but in.
that help or do you want to further make an ass of yourself by attempting to project your ignorance on to me?
You really need to hear Home Free collaborating with Peter Hollens singing, “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for”. This is a masterpiece in production with over 350 people singing.
Great choice. I was shocked the first time I heard it.
Absolutely love this version of this song, and I am sure you will love it too. Great choice. Love watching your reaction. 🏴👍
Well done Danielle! I so love this vocal group, love your reactions, a classic CSN song
If you haven't already (and I didn't see it on your video list), you need to hear When a Man Loves a Woman. Austin takes the lead and absolutely owns it. It will give you a more complete understanding of his vocal abilities.
Yes! Please! It shows Austin’s incredible vocal and breath control! The harmonies are perfect to support Austin’s energy, and Adam is just phenomenal!
^ This
This is one of my favorites from Home Free! I'd love to see you react to the collaboration with Kenny Rogers doing Children Go Where I Send Thee or Elvira with the Oak Ridge Boys. Those are just 2 that show how versatile they are and how they have such stunning chemistry with other artists. Thank you for reacting to Home Free! ❤
Just love the Harmonies. Adam an Rob. soooooo good together. One of my favorites from these guys!! Love your Reaction 😁😁
You can get another take on their harmony skills with their version of How Great Thou Art. That was the first song of theirs I heard and it got me hooked. For one more take on their harmonies, Auld Lang Syne is also brilliant. Maybe save that one for December.
I also got hooked on them by How Great Thou Art manyyyy years ago.
I love watching your appreciation of great music. You are so expression without 'overacting' as it were or getting too complicated in your evaluations so experienced and beginning listeners can follow your comments. Great job in not losing any of us.
I've listened to this several times and may have heard Home Free a few more times than you have to this point so I'd venture that perhaps Austin has the high part in the beginning of this that you wondered about. His voice is slightly thinner than Rob's and, in keeping with where their ranges are for this particular song, it fits. However, all of these guys are so talented that it truly could have been almost any one of them, including Tim's bass voice. LOL. I'm always amazed when I relisten to this with each new reactor that the 2 voices that sing in harmony and then in unison (same note, same octave) at the very beginning of this cover are a bass/baritone and a tenor and not two tenors. It's always stunning because, as you pointed out, they sound as if they are only one voice instead of two.
I forget everything you've reacted to so far, so forgive me if this is repetitive requestion for Home Free's covers of "Crazy" and "When a Man Loves a Woman." Thanks for the reactions. (also great to see you with Jacob Restituto; thanks for showing him around here in Texas).
Yeah, she flipped Rob and Austin, but still nailed the analysis.
Continuing down the rabbit hole of the best A Cappella group on the planet...I'd highly recommend "The Butts Medley," "Ring of Fire," "Elvira," "End of the Road," "Folsom Prison Blues," "Sea Shanty Medley," "When a Man Loves a Woman,"...and of course, "Mayday!"
You forgot the recent One-man Band...
I'd love for you to react to home frees version of when a man loves a woman. Austin pulls out all the stops vocally. You will be amazed what he can do.
That is a great suggestion... Austin Brown gives a PhD Honors class in how song can win someones heart...
your reaction to the ending, was the WHOLE WORLDS reaction... we didnt want it to stop!
this is so good, i can listen to this every single day, a hundred times a day! missing you on the chat coach! hope to see you soon! ❤🙏

I really loved hearing Adam Rupp singing as well in this. His beatboxing is out of this world, but he is also an incredibly good singer in his own right.
Come on it’s Austin doing the high notes you know this already!!!
When they all sing the same note, it’s hard to tell them apart-amazing teamwork!!
I am mesmerized by this song. The first time I heard it I started crying, but in a good way. It's just so beautiful! You are so good at pointing out the nuances. I'm so glad I came across your channel.
Next step for the harmony journey: "Do you hear what I hear" ❤️
Excellent choice! But let her wait until the holidays. It's worth waiting for.
I agree with you - these guys are enourmously talented ! And it is so great that the group doesn't seem to suffer from ego problems. I love the way they pass the lead around to whomever is the best fit, and the fact that each of them is comfortable and very capable in the lead.
I promise it is a song which is worth to melt for, a song that chills up every singer, vocal coach, every fan of music
We didn't lie to you, did we? 😁 I am SO enjoying being in on the start of one of my favorite reactors journey with my favorite acapella group! I think it's time for you to have some fun; check out "I Swear." Loving your reactions!!
I love to hear Adam Rupp sing
Your joy at a performance that’s a favorite of mine made me appreciate it more. Thanks for your review!
Impatiently Waiting.
Adam Chance is a baritone with a four octave range. He can match it to Rob’s tenor and to Tim’s base. I think his voice is like velvet. They are all incredible singers. Austin’s voice is such a rich tenor and Adam Rupp’s abilities are out of this world good. Saw them in concert a week ago. Just amazing. Love to watch the reviews. ❤
This is one of my favorites! I agree it's much too short haha if you really want to see the range these guys have as individual vocalists check out their cover of Mayday! Now that you're more used to their sound it will shock you for sure!
An exquisite song and these guys give it everything it deserves. Wonderful music.
For those who have never heard this song before...it really should be listened to with headphones to appreciate the full depth of Home Free's harmonies!
You are going to love the harmonies of this video #Subscriptionsquad
Really enjoyed watching this your excitement is contagious
I love your excitement and enthusiasm! You are awesome!
Thank you so much for doing Home Free! I love your reactions! ^i^
Great reaction beautiful lady
I’ve always loved the alliterative lyrics. Crosby, Stills and Nash at their finest. ❤
What impresses me about Adam and Rob singing in unison is that they do indeed, as you said, sound like one voice. The reason that is amazing is that their tonal qualities are vastly different so Rob literally had to imitate Adam.
I'm old enough to be lucky enough to have heard Crosby Stills and Nash played regularly on popular radio. Nothing like that now.
I'm with you. Home free's harmony is so out of this world that we couldn't it left us wanting more. Wow
I am a big admirer of home free! Glad to hear you comment on their skill set. It is my sincere desire to one day see them live!
@Danielle 2:20 Austin (2:14) is the high tenor.
Can NOT go wrong with Home Free (or Voctave, Pentatonix)... The harmonies are astounding. Thank you for your reaction. Looking forward to more.
This exact video was one used in my father's funeral and it's one of those songs that just means a whole lot more than just something simple
That cry at 05:23 was just ... like a knife to the heart... I recognize it too well from so many reactors, when they have been truly turned into Home Fries

Big fan of Home Free. I have been singing, in choirs, praise teams, trios and quartets since 1987 and when I hear vocals like these guys have, it truly moves me to tears. Though this is practiced, it is still nothing short of a God given gift and these 5 gents blow it out oh so well. But I must say that your reaction to their vocals, blessed me to watch as much as hearing them sing does. It is awesome to watch someone light up when they hear gifted vocals like these guys have. Thanks!!
Did you notice that Adam Rupp the beat boxer sangi in this song? (no drums)! The voices and synchronized pauses were amazing! Pure harmonies!! They make it look so easy! Nice reaction!
I hadn't gotten around to hearing this one myself. "Mayday" is a nice surprise. "Aluld lang syne" is beautiful. And, of course, "do you hear what I hear"
Amazing song super amazing
I didn’t know that they covered this song. Excellent! Thanks for posting.
#subscriptionsquad Thank you so much! Home Free original songs are amazing. I would recommend listening to Dive Bar Saints, and Land of the Free. After you have seen several HF videos (at least 20) to get to know Home Free, you can then watch Snow Globe, a beautiful original. I can’t wait to see if Home Free releases a video for their cover of “Brothers in Arms”, which gives me chills every time I listen. It is absolutely phenomenal. One of my other favorite covers is Chris Rupp Amazing Grace (Home Free founder, now solo, my favorite tenor. If you end up watching older HF videos, he is the hat guy.
Five voices + close harmonies= shivers up the spine. Great analysis.
They are just phenomenal ❤
The ability to start and stop together is unreal. Fire
"Is it already done? NO! NOOOOHOHOOOOO!"
Right answer lol
One of my all time favorite Crosby Stills & Nash songs, and Home Free does an amazing job with it. In particular I like it because Adam (world class vocal percussionist that he is) is part of the harmonies and Chance sings part of the lead which he doesn't often get to do. He is normally in the role of the baritone-glue, albeit with incredible range.
They are flawless!
I love when Adam Rupp sings. He has such a pure tone in these songs. Like, How Great Thou Art. Stunning
A masterpiece was originally the work a journeyman presented to the guild in order to be granted the title of "master." This is HF's masterpiece. Their expertise is exquisite, their precision priceless.
Auld Lang Syne. They covered it. No beatboxing just like this one. It is SUBLIME.
GREAT REACTION VIDEO!
Excellent job
We Love Home Free!
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL
Enjoyed the reaction. Thanks!
I remember way back when thinking that Simon and Garfunkel’s harmonies were perfect. This performance is the first time I’ve thought that in recent times. Exquisite.
Then check out 'Brothers in arms' or 'winter song '
Saw S & G in Central Park 1981
Everly brothers and righteous brothers great too
Lmao every reaction video always nuts when they hit the crunchy barbershop chord 😂 such a good song
The "country" guys can really sing !! They are awesome artists and this piece is crafted as art. Waaaay too short. I agree with others, time for you to Home Free's cover of MayDay.
Noooooo!!! Wait until she learns their names and really appreciates the depth of Tim's bass. Ring of Fire, Folsom Prison Blues, How Great Thou Art, In the Blood even end of the Road to really get to know them, then Mayday to blow her mind! At Christmas time, Do you Hear What I Hear, Christmas in Dixie with Alabama and O Holy Night.
They sang the original music of Crosby, Stills, and Nash; that is how long their song is..
Omg I love how much you love this! I get chills too :) #subscriptionsquad
Home Free is a favorite of mine, but I found this one a few months ago, and had to download immediately. Also, Tim’s bass gets me every time.
Nearly every reactor fails to mention Adam Rupp singing, and you can hear him as the lowest tenor in the chord harmony. Also, when the bassline carries during the tenor breaks so does the baritone. It's not as easy to hear but it's there.
Thank ye, ma'am for givin us more Home Free! Enjoyed it as always. You ABSOLUTELY have to do the BUTTS MEDLEY! Too funny and top tier transitionin! Don't jump out of the rabbit whole too soon! Hope you and yorn have a goodun.✝️🤠
Sounds like not only incredible talent here, but, also hours of practice. Everything is so tight. Vowels, intonation, blending, etc. What else can you say: These guys are just so so great in what they do. Amazing in fact, right? :-)
This is so gorgeous and it makes me so sad every time it ends.
The verse right after you commented on him holding the note, he holds it for the whole next verse. They are insanely good.
It sounds like there's a resonant overtone on the final chord. WOW!!
Seven Bridges, Auld Lang Sayne and How Great Thou Art are great examples of harmonies....2 of the three have no beatboxing but Adam Rupp singing tenor especially his little solo in How Great Thou Art.
Isn’t this beautiful?!! One of my favorites of theirs. Their harmonies are killer. Tim Foust is the bass with the long dark hair. Tim is the one with the 5 octave range. Austin was the 3rd singer in this and he’s the high tenor. Chance (baritone) started the song. Rob is a tenor and was second (glasses). Adam is the beatboxer and came in with Tim near the end. He has shorter blondish hair and is a tenor (when he sings). One Man Band, Country Roads, Seven Bridges Road. They have great Christmas music too. Angels We Have Heard On High, Do You Hear What I Hear, O Holy Night are some of my favorites. They also don’t mind being goofy and have fun songs too. Great reaction Danielle!
I love your comments!
Awesome Job baby fry
Also she did a GREAT REACTION VIDEO!
New sub here, Thanks for the reaction Coach,
I have a request for you, react to 4TH IMPACT sings ‘BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER’ (So Hyang Version) Many thanks.

The high Harmony is Rob y'all!!! Lmao 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 She's so good at this 🤣😂🤣😂
I think every reaction I've seen to this song all ends the same way.."Is it over already...NOOOOOOO"
Is this not just the most beautiful thing you have ever heard?
This is hardcore a-capella - not even a beat-box?! *Superb* harmony and timing!
Two points 1) This song is from Crosby Stills and Nash, was first performed at Woodstock in 1969. 2) Home Free is following the original performance timing.
Thanks for your reaction
Perfection!!!
