Chance uses throat singing techniques to make it sound like it got doubled but you can hear two tones but it is too loud to be subharmonics so it is definitely throat singing.
hey, i met you through this video. You are very positive and energetic, congratulations. I will continue to enjoy watching. Sorry, my English is a little bad.
Whilst we Home Fries think Tim is the greatest Bass singer alive, you have to admit that Chance is the most underrated Bass singer. The ability to interchange roles is what makes this group special.
The fact that he has an excellent Bass range lets him and Tim do some awesome fills and low-range harmonies that add such a great sound to many places in their songs!
According to their published ranges, all four can get below C2 (Tim can reach A0) and above C5 (Austin can reach D6). Most of the time, they could simply randomly assign parts.
Yup. Hard to beat a five man group with three bassists, a soul stealing basso profundo, a four plus octave +baritone+, five tenors, a buttery smooth tenor, an amazing high tenor, five beatboxers and one freak of nature vocal percussionist. "BUT YOU SAID IT WAS JUST FIVE GUYS?!" Yup.
This was such a controversy when they debuted the song, Fries didn't believe it was Tim singing the opening part and what a wonderful change to see Chance doing the really low, low note!!! This is actually my ringtone!
I was about half way through this song when it finally hit me that the bass, Tim, was singing lead as a tenor. Then when Chance showed his deep, deep bass, I was in shock! This is one of those songs that surprises me every time I listen to it. These guys are so versatile and I am constantly amazed by them. Great reaction, I'm glad you waited.
LOVE the versatility of our amazingly talented fellas!! 🥰. Every member of Home Free can absolutely be a solo ⭐ star ⭐ but their harmonies together are MAGIC!!
Here comes our reaction queen Danielle Marie I love your reactions and the way how you talk about a video. Sending positive vibes! Stay safe everyone! Hope your day was great!
I love how this was done in the original key. Even by Tim. And, I'm sure that the young lady who performed it originally was impressed as well. ;) This was my first Fousting, Tim shocked me enough that I had to go back several times to make sure there wasn't some sort of production put on his voice to get it to a higher range. Turns out that he, like a lot of the folks in the acapella world, isn't entirely human, that's all. LOL. Then, of course, we have Adam Chance. I really loved that he got to show off his impressive lower range here. He doesn't get the chance, pun intended, very often, not with Tim in the group making Richter scales go crazy. So good! All the way around.
I heard Tim Faust in an interview say that when he coaches bass singers he first has them explore and develop their high range before delving in the depths of the bass He sure has an insane vocal range. All of them as always just shine in their own way---Rob sining behind Austin is just so nice. I love all of their songs, but this has to be my favoritee--just sticks in my ear and I love it!!
Thanks for the great reaction as always!! :) It's a really cool song. Love the way it uses the sinking ship metaphor to describe trying to escape a failed relationship. Adam Chance did a great job singing the base even though he's their baritone -- I really like the super low note he does, it kind of reminds me of a fog horn (keeping with the ship theme). Having Tim (their bass) start the song almost singing tenor was a great way to showcase his range and like you said all the guys were amazing.
yep you took the time to learn Home Free before reacting to Mayday. Some reactors jumped the boat last year, but you took the time to research the group so you were able to 'get it' how they finally came together and harmonized so well. The music is relatively understandable but it's the layering and textures they've put in to it, the switches between them. We don't often hear Tim staying in his 'higher' range but it fit for this piece. From the early songs to now, we can all hear how the guys have progressed from Ring of Fire to How Great Thou Art, End of the Road and their humorous pieces (Butts Remix). You are such a goddess, love you for ALL you do Danielle
After posting my other recommendation I realized she hadn't seen this yet. Danielle will LOSE HER MIND hearing a song actually featuring Rob going full bonkers.
Austin is a great lead. He is compelling and personal (and can yodel effectively). Rob has the sweet voice, but can be tremendously soulful. Tim is THE bass. (I’d love to hear a duet with Tim and Geoff C. from Voiceplay.) Chance is a great baritone who can effectively sing tenor or bass. And Adam is so much more than a vocal percussionist.
Yessssssssssss I loved hearing Rob just open up and go full ham. We hear that from Austin frequently but being able to hear Rob do that just blows my brain
This is going to be extremely interesting....Danielle you loved it just like we new you would, Austin & Rob standout, especially to me Rob's voice is so awesome here...but to me the unsung hero might be Chance who keeps the bass the whole song....he truly is their secret weapon.
@@unluckydiablo9502 thats exactly who he is....he can do bass lower than Chris, so that opens up their range to many more songs. Don't get me wrong, I love & follow Chris on his channel, and his group Cypress Fyre !! They are awesome. God led Chris to this new place he's at & I'm happy for him
@@miamidolphinsfan Because of Tim, Home Free is known for their bass. But now having someone with the low enough range to cover while Tim takes a solo helps a lot. Plus it makes for an even fuller sound to have a baritone/bass in between the tenors and bass. Nothing against Chris though, he held a great bass for Tim.
@@miamidolphinsfan Chance does go lower than anything I heard Chris do with Home Free but have you heard Chris's version of Amazing Grace. He's been practising his bass and it's awesome 🙂
This is one of Home Free's best covers. Love your reactions Danielle. And didn't Adam just absolutely kill the vocal percussion!?! Looking forward to your next reaction.
Love your reaction. I was amazed after going back to listen to many of their songs that Chance is absolutely an amazing bass and "secretly" nails bass parts when Tim is on melody. He may not be able to go quite as low as Tim, but man he can hold down some crucial and awesome bass lines himself. A great example is in "Land of the Free". He nails the bass line. It is not a song that has gotten many reactions, but is one of my favorite Home Free songs. Tim wrote it and performed it solo before the band took it up. Super cool 4th of July/America song. You should react to it.
"Land of the Free" is also one of my favorites, but very rarely on reaction channels other than a few when it first came out! I guess we're not supposed to be patriotic except on the 4th of July!?
Ah! I loved your reaction! It was so fun to watch how happy it made you with all of the great stuff going on! Tim singing in his upper register, Chance singing bass, Austin and Rob doing their thing! Adam holding down the beat with his built-in drum kit!
This song is one of my favorites. So glad you waited to react to it. Your surprise at hearing the switch ups in the voices was great. Tim can sing in a beautiful higher tenor voice along with Austin & Rob. And Chance can hit the lower bass notes when needed. And Adam did a fabulous job as always with his vocal percussion. This song is sung by a woman Cam, so they sung it in a higher key to match the original.
Danielle i think we were all waiting for you to recognize that Tim, the awesome low base, was singing the tenor melody at the beginning of the song!! Lol. That's why everyone asked you to do a bunch of other Home Free songs before you listened to this one. We were waiting for you to be shocked. Perhaps you knew Tim's range before this song. Anyway, it's a great song and they killed, and it was a great reaction! Thanks 😊
For a while Home Fries used this Mayday video to test reactors on how well they know the group and which person sings what vocal part. The reaction to Tim singing high tenor and tenor in general throughout, plus having Chance singing very low bass kind of freaked out a lot of reactors. But I feel like Home Free’s recent music has put an end to this idea because most reactors are aware after a couple of the newest videos that everyone in Home Free can cover multiple voice parts. I’m glad you like the song Thanks for your reaction #subscription squad
Kudos to them for doing this in the original female singer's alto key. I think that it's cool that since Mayday is a nautical distress call, they put an effect on Chances low, hold out note to make it sounds like a ship's horn.
Love the breakdowns that you give. I remember being so confused when this video came out! Home Free took everything we knew about them and turned it on it's head! I'd love to see you react to Austin's version of Bring Him Home from Les Miserables and to Tim's all a capella Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay. They are both extraordinary and mind blowing. Thank you again for your Home Free reactions.
It was the switcheroo that’s so surprising. Tim (the bass) started the song and sang tenor throughout and Chance (baritone) did the bass this time. Tim has such an amazing range. Please listen to some of his songs on his new Doo Wop album to see his range. Will You Still Love Me/Stay, In My Room. And he did a new one with Peter Hollens You Can Keep Your Eyes Closed which is fantastic. Yeah all the boys are so good on this song. Loved all of them and Adam was incredible on percussion. Great reaction Danielle.😃
Chance does the drone of background bass quite often, especially when Tim sings as he was singing high for the most part in this, and Chance showing his bass skills. When the track came out (before the video) not many could figure out who was starting the song. Tim was amused by that.
Chance was the bass for his previous vocal group. He can also sing tenor. But one of his best skills is making instrument sounds. Check out Can't Stop the Feeling.
I have listened to Can't Stop the Feeling more often than any of their other covers. It is such an amazingly feel good song - if you're down, this will pick you UP. And THREE of the guys are providing basically instrumental sounds. Love it. And Chance is just so incredibly perfect for this group.
Nice review. Did you notice at the end when Rob was singing a counter melody, Tim added a higher harmony. That floored me. Tim singing higher than Rob.
Others have said this but you do understand that "ALL" THE BASS in this video is performed by CHANCE who is actually a Baritone while TIM is singing TENOR yet he is actually the DEEP BASS. . . . this is why so many people think this is one of their best performances . . . . . .
You didn't seem to be shocked that Tim started the song off in tenor. And Chance showing off his bass, which is what he actually is. Enjoyed watching your reaction to this song.
Sorry Danielle you missed what everyone wanted you to wait for. The reaction everyone was looking for was the "whoa wait that is Tim singing the opening tenor part..." at .03 and "You mean Chance is carrying the baseline this whole time..." at 8:17 and the "What was that? way to go Chance..." at 8:27. And as a vocal coach, someone was probably wanting you to comment on how the three guys were all singing in the same original key/octave as Cam in the original... with some additional gushing over Tim's five-octave plus vocal range...that is what most folks who wanted you to wait were looking for.
It doesn't matter to the guys from Home Free. High, low and everything in between, they'll fix it. I am a big fan of all members. Such great voices. Although Rob's voice touches me the most, I have to admit, like @KevinClements said, that Chance really makes it here. Not to mention the inhuman Adam tying it all together into this awesome version. For me they are great individually, but together, all five, they are perfect
Thank you so much Danielle for yet another GREAT reaction vid from one of favorite groups, Home Free lol! not only were u spot on with your observations and comments...you also looked insanely cute during the entire clip lol!! Keep up the good work young lady!! Take care and God bless!
Wow!!! So much versatility in Home Free with each member, and they also showed so many vocal features, it was so fun to hear you take each one apart detail by detail!! Thank you so much, as your analysis adds even more to this phenomenal cover! Your whole reaction was just so wonderful to watch and hear!! 🥰😊❗ Take care!
As a subscriber, may i suggest My Country Tis of Thee, Land of the Free, Bring Him Home, When A Man Loves A Woman, Vincent, Travelin Soldier, and, oh so many more! Love your channel!
I value the credit given to Rob. He does yoeman work in the background nailing those harmonies. I also appreciate both Adams, Adam Rupp and Adam Chance. They tend to stay in the background, but their strong reliable support to all of HomeFree's works is to their credit.
I am so happy you are reacting to this one. It is one of their best ones. You are going to get a big surprise as the bass is singing in his high register and their Baritone Chance is using his bass register.
I just took my pain meds, but they still sound so freakin good eventhough I'm pretty high while watching this. BTW I love the nails 💅 #subscriptionsquad
Coach you been sleeping on Katrina Velarde’s new collaboration with Jessica Villarubin covering the iconic Celine Dion song I Surrender. This was released a few weeks ago and is approaching a million view because it’s AMAZING!!!! There’s a studio version, a live performance and even a practice session all of which are worth watching, but if you only did one it should be the studio cut. Anyway, please give Kat some support. The vocals on this are outrageously outstanding!!
Love your reactions, Danielle Marie. Your love of good music shines, a great, feel-good vibe to go along with the notes. Hoping you'll react to Austin's release of 'Bring Him Home' or 'I'm Not Supposed to Love You Anymore.' Both are killer, and Tim has released 'Will You Still Love Me/Stay' that shows off his stupendous range. Or, heck, anything with all of them. #SubscriptionSquad
Take note here - that was Chase doing the bass part, and he is not their low bass... Tim, who started the song off, is their low bass singer. They gave the bass part to Chase this go round, and he did a great job with it!
The thing I love to see is when reactors that have never heard this song or Tim's high ranges are all of a sudden blindsided by him singing the opening lead tenor in this song and the looks of surprise are just great because you expect Tim to stay in the basement then he leads off like this what a crazy treat it is to see a bass that has such a crazy range.
While you picked up on their falsettos, I am surprised you didn't especially notice that Tim, their ultra deep base started out as the tenor lead, and Adam Chance got his turn at the deep bass part. They shifted around more in this incredible performance more than in any other song I've heard them do.
Note that TIM takes it up to Tenor and it is supported by the SECOND GREAT SINGER OF THREE REGISTERS = Chance ... his Bass is within the mix and featured in the Mayday, Mayday bottom killer note ! GBjj
Love this one and folsom prison. But I really believe you would like voice plays queen in 5 mins . I really love your reaction and can't wait to watch more #subscriptionsquad
All the guys did a really Great job with this song. Each of them were spectacular, put together they make Magic !! Wold love a reaction to Austin singing "Bring Him Home" on his solo channel.
Just my opinions hear, I could be wrong. But I highly doubt it. LOL! I think people were telling you AND everybody else to wait because they wanted to see your reaction to Tim's Higher range shown. But over the time in "waiting" for MAYDAY you are used to Tim's range and it wasn't that big of a surprise. And Adam Chance doing the BASS, he has always added to or help with it, we just never saw it. This video, he was BASS center. But the whole video is great. I liked your reactions, even if it wasn't the BIG REACTION that people were expecting. Great Post. Thank you for sharing with us.
This is the first video of yours that I have seen. You plainly love this group, but we were all awaiting a *gasp* when Tim was the opening tenor. Perhaps you already knew these guys so well that this wasn't a surprise. But this WAS a great reaction, and so.... #subscriptionsquad
Hi, Danielle. great reaction. If Rob is your favorite then you will love love the cover of "Blue Ain't Your Color" and Tim's bass will rattle your teeth like a chandelier.
The way they wrap this song up was described by another reviewer like, while Austin is singing the 'May Day' part, these other voices are just walking around him. Thanks. Good review.
A little bit of yodel from Austin. Great! Vocal "waves" rocking a Titanic themed set to a relation-"shipwreck" of a song? Awesome! Duet between Tim and Rob (in the same register) and none of the bass done by Tim, yet a phenom of a cover? Wonderful! Incredible beatboxing by Adam? Fantastic! Your reaction to Home Free's cover of "Mayday?" Priceless! (Thanks for waiting)
Tim sang high in this song. Completely handing over bass role to Chance but, Tim REALLY goes nutts in his recent solo single, "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay". Please react to that soon.
I'm new to you , but have kept up with Home Free since before the sing off . If you want to hear them really harmonizing with each other , same tone , parts where you can only hear 1 voice ! Check out their cover of Helplessly Hoping , a Crosby, Stills and Nash song !!!
Fun thing about Home Free is that you never know what you get. Country music? Sure! Pop music? They got it. Classic Christmas songs? Here we go! Funny or serious topics? Whatever you like. My suggestion for another reaction: Baba yetu by Peter Hollens feat. Malukah. My first time listening to Peter Hollens and I still can't get enough of it. #subscriptionsquad

You need to listen to Home Free's (Adam Rupp's) arrangement of "Do You Hear What I Hear?" There is just soooo much going on in that song.
Chance uses throat singing techniques to make it sound like it got doubled but you can hear two tones but it is too loud to be subharmonics so it is definitely throat singing.

I know girl!! I get goosebumps😍❤️ love when Chance lets out that bass
These guys are the GOAT! Such style and such variety. It was fun watching you go bananas over it.
Thanks for your reactions. HF is on fire
I've missed your show. Glad to see u.
As a subscriber, may i suggest My Country Tis of Thee, Land of the Free, Bring Him Home, When A Man Loves A Woman, Vincent, Travelin Soldier, and, oh so many more! Love your channel!
Masterpiece
I value the credit given to Rob. He does yoeman work in the background nailing those harmonies. I also appreciate both Adams, Adam Rupp and Adam Chance. They tend to stay in the background, but their strong reliable support to all of HomeFree's works is to their credit.
Danielle, great reaction as always.............
HOME FREE DOESN’T DO COVERS THEY DO UPGRADES
That sad moment when the reactor doesn't lose their mind that Tim opens with a tenor lead ... I guess she wasn't ready for Mayday.
Or maybe too ready and knew it was coming. 😉
Nope not ready at all
Then it's time for her to review Tim's will you still love me tomorrow/stay solo!
Love your reactions...So cute!!
Home Free, Pentatonix, and Voice Play are the holy trinity of a capella.
I am so happy you are reacting to this one. It is one of their best ones. You are going to get a big surprise as the bass is singing in his high register and their Baritone Chance is using his bass register.
Hello! Newbie to the channel and I’m so happy to see someone react to one of my favorite songs!
I just took my pain meds, but they still sound so freakin good eventhough I'm pretty high while watching this. BTW I love the nails 💅
#subscriptionsquad
Loved your reaction!! You did it justice!!
Wow! Great review, the harmony was great and the beat boxer was Incredible, and almost lost with all that was almost lost in the song.
Or Austin's latest release, Sam Cooke-You Send Me!
Take note here - that was Chase doing the bass part, and he is not their low bass... Tim, who started the song off, is their low bass singer. They gave the bass part to Chase this go round, and he did a great job with it!
I think you are ready for American Pie. Great reaction 👍🏻
Absolutely loved watching your reaction! It makes me appreciate them that much more! I subscribed to your Channel to see more.
They have the most under rated beat boxer when it comes to sounding like a real drum kit. To me, that was the most impressive aspect of the song.
I also think that the Vocal Percussionist Adam Rupp is absolutely amazing and so talented 😍
My jaw dropped at the end when I realized Tim was singing high harmony above Rob! What range!
While you picked up on their falsettos, I am surprised you didn't especially notice that Tim, their ultra deep base started out as the tenor lead, and Adam Chance got his turn at the deep bass part. They shifted around more in this incredible performance more than in any other song I've heard them do.
Gotta hear their cover of a 60's classic, Helplessly Hoping. The harmonies are outstanding!
Note that TIM takes it up to Tenor and it is supported by the SECOND GREAT SINGER OF THREE REGISTERS = Chance ... his Bass is within the mix and featured in the Mayday, Mayday bottom killer note ! GBjj
I love Home Free, and I love your enthusiastic reaction. :)
Loved the reaction! Tim sang NO bass in this one. Chance can go just as deep as Tim I believe.
Not like Tim but yeah he can go low notes
Love your input
Love this one and folsom prison. But I really believe you would like voice plays queen in 5 mins . I really love your reaction and can't wait to watch more #subscriptionsquad
Favorite accapella group, and yes you are great.
They sang it in the same key that Cam did it
All the guys did a really Great job with this song. Each of them were spectacular, put together they make Magic !! Wold love a reaction to Austin singing "Bring Him Home" on his solo channel.
If Rob is your favorite, you have to watch End of the Road. He absolutely shines in that song!!
You should check out Chance with The Hound + The Fox singing 'Wayfaring Stranger'. Stunningly beautiful. Love your reactions and analysis.
I believe that on Chases' "note" Tim's bass voice was added to Chases' voice. It did sound "supplemented" somehow.
Great and informative reaction😁👍🏻
Hey, Danielle! Great reaction. I'd love to see you react to Voice Play's new drop of We Don't Talk About Bruno... it's incredible!
I love that when Chance hit the low, Tim came in on it, she picked up the “double bass” and could figure out where it was coming from.
The bass in this one was all Chance.
Please also react to their original song, "Why Not", Rob takes the lead in that one and completely rocks it.
Tim sang high in this song. Completely handing over bass role to Chance but, Tim REALLY goes nutts in his recent solo single, "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay". Please react to that soon.
You need to hear the LIVE Ryman performance with Texas Hill of the song Dreamer, because Rob will show you the Blues color of his soul
I'm new to you , but have kept up with Home Free since before the sing off . If you want to hear them really harmonizing with each other , same tone , parts where you can only hear 1 voice ! Check out their cover of Helplessly Hoping , a Crosby, Stills and Nash song !!!
Home Free is amazing!!!
Fun thing about Home Free is that you never know what you get.
Country music? Sure!
Pop music? They got it.
Classic Christmas songs? Here we go!
Funny or serious topics? Whatever you like.
My suggestion for another reaction:
Baba yetu by Peter Hollens feat. Malukah. My first time listening to Peter Hollens and I still can't get enough of it.
#subscriptionsquad
Love your hair! #subscriptionsquad
With her lack of reaction to Tim's vocal flip then I don't think she eat truly ready for Mayday
