at least four baritones - I have heard Rob and Austin get pretty low when needed. Some of the beatboxing makes me think Adam can cover there is needed too.
in voice clasification C2 is well enough for being bass so Chance can chest F#1 it is lower than Tim he can chest G1 so Chance is also basso profund as Tim he is great as Tim
When they do this song live in concert, Austin and Rob roast Tim for having the audacity to sing "up there" with them. Tim listens patiently, then in the very next song, he'll drop his bass so low that it's likely that something in the sound system fries.
Unless they have switched the schtick to another song, this happens during "Your Man," and Foust has fried at least two sound systems. Search "Tim Foust breaks sound system" or something similar.
Tim just released a solo a cappella album called “Pieces of Me”, a collection of doo wop songs and other favorites of his. Try listening to “Will You Still Love Me/ Stay”. He shows off his entire vocal range
Home Free must really like you! I haven't seen any other reactor get so many personal requests or invites from them. The interesting thing about this song is that they performed it in the original key the CAM did it in. They are soooo versatile. I really appreciate that you acknowledged Chance's bass as he is normally not recognized for his superb efforts that allow Tim to do what he does. Once more, you have done an excellent job in your analysis and I believe that's why they keep offering it up to you. I will say that the "unsung hero" of Mayday is Adam Rupp... he kills it as the human drum kit!
@@JenniferGlatzhofer It's a testament to your amazing talent in recognizing talent and articulating what is happening. I appreciate all your reactions! TY
Chance was the bass for his previous vocal group. He can also sing tenor but usually sings baritone. Chance was quite an addition to Home Free. Chance does great instrument sounds as well.
I love love love this group although they are fairly new to me. I would really enjoy your reaction to Man of Constant Sorrow. I’m from the South by birth and that song triggers something inside of me. You will forever be my original reaction video. Thank you Jen.

This is why most Home Fries recommend that reactors hold off on this song until they're more familiar with group's vocal roles. Those moments of surprise are Golden!
Tim was actually first trained as a tenor as his voice dropped rather late - and man did it drop! In fact he recommends bass singers to develop their upper range instead of focusing just on the low notes, before trying to reach down. He has a 5 octave range to work with. Chance is the baritone usually but he too easily covers bass when Tim is otherwise occupied. You want another surprise? You should check out Tim's solo project Will you still love me /Stay. All vocals are sung by him and he uses nearly all his range in that one!
I think training lower male voices as tenors or baritones is more common than it should be. I got to college and was taught first as a tenor, then baritone, and by senior year my voice had continued to lower. I wound up maintaining a lot of my upper register, and falsetto control. But my lower range has continued to extend down as I’ve gotten older. I went from F2-G2 at 18, to G1 by 25, and now in my early 30s B0-Bb0. I wish I had learned more bass specific techniques while in university studying music, instead of mostly tenor or baritone things. Like subharmanics or chest-fry. But it makes sense since I couldn’t physically access the lowest parts of my range as it had yet to develop. I could benefit from finding bass specific training now that my voice has more or less settled at ridiculously low.
@@Adam1984_ oh I left that out. In my learning other techniques past college like subs helped me reach lower. B0 is my lowest fry. I can sub A0-E1. Have gone below the piano just barely with subs a few times but not consistent. F0 is about as high as I can hit of a sub but inconsistent. Chest fry is a lot louder in the lower range for me. I think my lowest “Modal note” is between B1 or C#2 depending on hydration, how rested I am, time of day, etc. I’ve been blending the shifts between those to smooth out my range so I forget to specify sometimes. I was pretty tired in my initial post and left out some of that. Sorry for any confusion. Thanks for pointing that out.
It astounds me that 5 world class male vocalists found each other and perform in the same group; but also that they are such wonderful, fun-loving, FAN-loving, down to earth guys who love what they do and genuinely like each other. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of hearing their music! Thanks for your great reaction and solid analysis of what they were doing vocally. My own experience in choirs and barbershop makes me appreciate the complexity of what they are pulling off, but your analysis reveals nuance that I didn’t even realize was there. You are one of my favorite reactors for this reason (and that, when you pause, you back it up so we can still experience the transitions). Looking forward to more great content from you! 👍
This song is one of my favorites. We usually ask reactors to wait to react to this song till they are familiar with the individual members. Then they are surprised at hearing the switch ups in the voices. Tim who is known for his bass can sing in a beautiful higher tenor voice along with Austin & Rob. And Chance can hit the lower bass notes when needed. Adam did a fabulous job as always with his vocal percussion. The original song is sung by a woman Cam, so they sung it in a higher key to match the original range.

Great reaction, and very funny. Confusion is the only natural reaction to this bewildering display of expertise in unexpected ways. Tim started his singing life as a tenor but to his surprise the voice suddenly dropped. He does work on it, and always says that the way to strengthen and extend your lower range, you have to strengthen the upper range to support it. Chance also has a very wide range, often singing with the tenors as part of a higher 'bank' of sound. You can hear that in "Helplessly hoping" - if you haven't heard it yet, put it at the top of the list. It's a remarkable arrangement. You didn't mention Adam's superlative (isn't it always) contribution, which links sections beautifully. Admittedly, his vocal technique is beyond description for mere mortals. Chance on bass the entire song and Tim singing lead with Rob at the end! 1 of my favorites! Next recommendation: 5 part harmony, Brothers in arms! A club for 5 arrangement.
I love it that Tim sings the whole song in his tenor range, showing off part of his upper 5 octave vocal range. And Chance very handily taking care of the deep bass of his 4 octave vocal range. Plus there is Rob showing us his silky smooth tenor and Adam with his superb vocal percussions, they all combine to show their versatility. Great reaction, Jennifer. Be sure to watch the comment section, one or more of the guys may leave a comment for you.
Home Free is amazing. You, Jennifer, are amazing. It is great that Home Free has been reaching out to you about reacting to some of their stuff. Really cool.
I realize that I'm late to the party on this, but I always enjoy watching the reactions of people to this song from Home Free. This is, without a doubt, my favorite cover that they have done. Watching someone drop their jaw in amazement makes me happy. And you did!
LOVE the versatility of our amazingly talented fellas!! 🥰. Every member of Home Free could absolutely be a solo ⭐ star ⭐ but their harmonies together are MAGIC!! ❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️
This was more stunning as a demonstration of range before there were so many other selections showing off the ranges of Tim and Chance, It still carries some punch, but if you have heard Snow Globe, American Pie, Bothers at Arms, etc., you know Tim and Chance have remarkable tenors (and there are several that show the tenors can do at least baritone as needed). With all that, this song becomes more remarkable for the swells, crescendos/decrescendos, and the total awesome beatboxing, the percussion being so sharp and busy (but appropriate) that it is virtually indistinguishable from a physical drum kit.
I always like it when actual drummers react to Adam. Every single one talks about how true he keeps his sounds and placement of the beats. That he doesn't put things into his performances that a real drummer wouldn't use. To me, that's high praise.
The thing to note is that while Tim is being featured out of his natural range, it is not at the expense of anybody else's strengths. Everybody is giving a full effort of their own.
Yes this is the song with surprises. It's incredible. Home Free is incredible. All the switches they do is amazing. Super sung. The really great Adam. Tim's tenor, Chance's deep bass. And Rob and Austin taking a different pitch too. Home Free is THE group for me. They are so great, but still keep their own identity. No egos.
Watching this reaction was a real treat. I have already watched several reaction to this cover, but you made it feel like having a personal shopper with me in the video stream showcasing the best bits. This made me love Home Free even more, so thank you for that.
BTW, have you ever thought of reaching out to Home Free to see if you could interview them on your channel? The Fries would love it. I'm going to see them live for the first time in 2 weeks here in Toronto. So looking forward to it.
I know it is Spring, but I encourage you to react to Home Free's version of 'Do You Hear What I Hear', plus their outstanding cover of 'Go Rest High On That Mountain' (have your tissue handy).
Jennifer, this was probably the best reaction I've ever seen to this performance. Nicely done. Most reactors just zip right by Tim singing Tenor, but your face gave it away. haha. Love from Florida.
Thank you for your reaction to Mayday Jennifer! I was waiting for it. This is one of my favorite Home Free songs. Thank you for your recommendations on working on your singing range. Just validates what I have always done. Lovedddd your reaction!
I enjoyed your reaction and all of your explanations as well. I hope your buddy Tim approves :-) But seriously, watching you is always pleasant for me, you are funny, smart and you don't miss anything and say what needs to be said without adding any fluff. Stay safe and take care.

Love, love, love your reaction. Finaly you've got the chanse to listen to it. 😅😅 You cant argue with Tim. 😂😂 The range that man has.... Had a blast watching this.
That face you made at the start of the song...that's why you needed to be familiar with the group before reacting to this song! It's awesome that Tim reached out!!!
You're so precious! It's hard to watch the video! I have to watch you. although I've been a Home Fry and seen them live for many many years but it's always to have an educated opinion!
What is happening Jennifer?? are you filling in a bingo card? Messages, first from Rob & now Tim, you only need Chance, Austin & Adam for a full house!! How nice that the Home fries have alerted the guys to your channel - quality reactors often get their attention!
This was the perfect reaction to this song!!! I'm pretty sure this gave all the Home Fries a mental fit, hearing Tim's highs and Chance's deeper bass. Tim has said he did not sing any bass in this song, it was all Chance. Also, very informative on your break down and analysis! Thanks for great content, Jennifer!!!
You should hear Tim and Austin sing "MY MARIA" with Tim singing the high tenor and Austin singing low! It is PHENOMENOL! THEY DO IT AT A BACKPORCH PARTY! IT'S CRAZY! TIM is unreal! He has a 5+ Octave Range. He actually sang tenor in high school until his voice changed radically! Love you girl! I get so excited, it's 4:00 and I am 65 and just heard your reaction to "AIN'T GOIN DOWN"! MY HEAD IS STILL SPINNING!
I see why most "Home Fries" wanted you to listen to a good number of Home Free songs before listening to Mayday. They wanted you to establish their normal vocal patterns in your head so that the shock effect would be there for this song when some of the roles were switched. Great reaction Jennifer! Your videos always leave me in a good mood. 😊 P.S. So Jennifer, you don't think if you really channeled your inner Tim and sang first thing in the morning (morning voice) that you could hit those Tim low notes? 😁
Wow! It is amazing to hear Tim in this song. Tim actually took this up a notch with the song he wrote last year, Snow Globe. There is a phenomenal part for each of the guys but Tim performed his own lead. He goes even higher with his head voice in Snow Globe.
Chance's Bass is also great on this one. In fact I'd read where it was arranged so that Chance, who had just recently joined HF, could show case his talent.
Loved your surprised reaction! BTW, did you notice they sang the song in the same key as Cam (a female singer)? Tim's Pieces of Me album will definitely blow you away as well.
Very cool to see Tim just going full Tim and just showing out. It's soo normal for Tim to just bring the thunder......but that dude can sing like very few on earth
@@JenniferGlatzhofer First comment was before I even watched the full video hehe. But now that I'm through it: Loved your reactions to each "part" and the enjoyment shows and is so contagius! Soo.. erh... happy easter! :P
The best description of Tim’s experience, training, and method of developing bass singers is in his interview with Elizabeth on The Charismatic Voice. He explains why it is important for bass singers to work hard on their falsettos and high ranges before he works with them on their voice as bass singers. He tells them to listen and sing with The Beach Boys awhile until they are more comfortable and then return to him for more instruction. Elizabeth has made comment on Tim’s work with Peter Hollens, and how both of them are able to remove the depth of their lower range when they sing tenor, and then return lower in the same song. As said by others, Chance add to the group to replace Chris Rupp (2016?) gave Home Free more flexibility allowing both of Tim and Chance to switch to tenor and baritone lead knowing there would be a competent and experienced bass to add substance with Adam Rupp who can really go low as an instrumental singer.
Great analysis. Loved your reaction to Tim's tenor & Chance's bass. & Rob & Austin are amazing as usual . Adam Rupp just keeps this together with his percussion in the background. I think having Chance in the group has opened up so many possibilities in relation to both his & Tim's vocal ranges. His creativity complements theirs in arrangements, voices, harmonies & then the actual artistry of the videos. He also has an amazing voice. Cover me up, Some girls do, Yours, Born in the USA, and Workin' for a living feature Chance.💕
I love your reactions to home free. You brighten my days. I'm battling prostrate cancer, skin cancer and conjestive heart failure. Thank you for getting my mind off of my problems for a little while!
In my opinion this is the most balanced harmonic group since the eagles or diamond rio, and possibly more controlled than diamond rio. These guys are amazing.
Hahaha, love your reaction! Yeah Tim was just showing off that 5 octave range he has. What a delight that he asked you to react to this. It’s one of my favorites because of the switcheroo with Tim and Chance. Chance was a bass in his former group so he can carry the bass no problem. He just can’t go as deep as Tim. That was fun. Great reaction Jennifer - the boys have ways of surprising you. 🥰😍
What a fun reaction Jennifer! The shocked silence in parts was actually very powerful as silence sometimes says more than words ever could. I must say that the way you said " I can't deal with this group anymore!". I did want to ask you if you wanted some cheese with that whine. :) Blessings and thanks for making me smile!
Did you notice that there was nobody clapping, and that foot stomping went away shortly after the chorus. That was Rupp and Chance. It didn't hit me until seeing Adam's mouth in the background and Tim's mouth singing as the camera panned in front of them. Great reaction and analysis again Jenn.
Here in America, we say "deer in the headlights", in the UK i believe the word is "gobsmacked". It's like they reshuffled the cards and everybody is singing someone else's part. AND IT WORKS!
Can we all just take a moment... after hearing the insane vocal abilities of those singing.... and truly appreciate what Adam brings to the group. There aren't many ways he can't manipulate his voice and mouth to create mostly impossible sounds as a vocal percussionist....

I always like it when actual drummers react to Adam. Every single one talks about how true he keeps his sounds and placement of the beats. That he doesn't put things into his performances that a real drummer wouldn't use. To me, that's high praise.
Wow was so full of surprises. Good illustration of freedom.
Before even watching the video, I immediately gave this one a "like". It is probably, for me anyway, the most anticipated reaction video out there.
And don't forget Adam, he rocked the beat!
Ah yay! Thanks 😊
BTW, have you ever thought of reaching out to Home Free to see if you could interview them on your channel? The Fries would love it. I'm going to see them live for the first time in 2 weeks here in Toronto. So looking forward to it.
TALENT Level is very high. They just never miss with a song. Vocal excellence.
I know it is Spring, but I encourage you to react to Home Free's version of 'Do You Hear What I Hear', plus their outstanding cover of 'Go Rest High On That Mountain' (have your tissue handy).
I love how giddy you got hearing Tim singing tenor. He's amazing ain't he!
Jennifer, this was probably the best reaction I've ever seen to this performance. Nicely done. Most reactors just zip right by Tim singing Tenor, but your face gave it away. haha.
Love from Florida.
Ah thank you 😊
Thank you for your reaction to Mayday Jennifer! I was waiting for it. This is one of my favorite Home Free songs. Thank you for your recommendations on working on your singing range. Just validates what I have always done. Lovedddd your reaction!
Ah thanks 😁
End of the Road should be on your list. One of my favorite!
On my channel 😊
@@JenniferGlatzhofer this was my first time on your channel. I love how Rob gets nasty at the end of that one. Great reaction.
Awesome reaction to Mayday! Glad you didn't wait too long.
I enjoyed your reaction and all of your explanations as well. I hope your buddy Tim approves :-) But seriously, watching you is always pleasant for me, you are funny, smart and you don't miss anything and say what needs to be said without adding any fluff. Stay safe and take care.
Thanks so much 😊
I've been waiting for months to see this reaction. It blew my mind my first time watching this video
You're fantastic! Your reaction has me laughing so hard! Those facial expressions are excellent! I can see why they personally requested you to react to this!
Jennifer, great reaction as expected! Check out their version of “How Great Thou Art”, you’ll be glad you did!
Perfect response to this song. Worth the wait!
This group has it all
Thank you for this one....my absolute favorite!!
It’s great!
Judging from the comments, it appears you and your buddy Tim, gave them what they were looking for. Well done.
7:32 “Mario pose” FTW!!!! 😂😂😂
Spit Diet Coke all over the place on that one!! 😐😑
Love, love, love your reaction. Finaly you've got the chanse to listen to it. 😅😅 You cant argue with Tim. 😂😂
The range that man has.... Had a blast watching this.
just think of what you would have thought of the group if you had listened to this song first. no where near the bliss and enjoyment. glad you waited
Indeed
That face you made at the start of the song...that's why you needed to be familiar with the group before reacting to this song! It's awesome that Tim reached out!!!
You're so precious! It's hard to watch the video! I have to watch you. although I've been a Home Fry and seen them live for many many years but it's always to have an educated opinion!
It has been fun watching your reactions to Home Free over time. Each time there seems to be something that leaves you gobsmacked.
What is happening Jennifer?? are you filling in a bingo card? Messages, first from Rob & now Tim, you only need Chance, Austin & Adam for a full house!! How nice that the Home fries have alerted the guys to your channel - quality reactors often get their attention!
Hahah am not complaining!!! Thank you! 😊
Your reactions in this are absolutely priceless!! Thank you for being so entertaining & educational.
Another fun one would be Blue Aint Your Color from HomeFree
I couldn't help but LMAO at your face as your brain was trying to comprehend what you were seeing and hearing....lol
This might be my FAVOURITE HF reaction video EVER, EVER, EVER!!!
Ah thanks!
Thrilled to hear your analysis of this piece by Homefree. Loved your expressions.
Just THE most enjoyable reaction to Mayday.
Beaming from beginning to end 😄
I would love to have seen Tim's reaction to your reaction 😅
This was the perfect reaction to this song!!! I'm pretty sure this gave all the Home Fries a mental fit, hearing Tim's highs and Chance's deeper bass. Tim has said he did not sing any bass in this song, it was all Chance. Also, very informative on your break down and analysis! Thanks for great content, Jennifer!!!
Ah thank you!
I have to say I’ve watched this reaction 5 times in a row. Jen’s gleeful confusion at the start is so quite enjoyable. 😊
Hahah challenge accepted 😂
This cover is well worth the wait. Great reaction. All the guys did great here... what am I saying... they ALWAYS do great!
GREAT job to Rob also. Just found this song a week ago and have kept it on constant repeat. Kudos to all Home Free. LOVE this! My fav so far
I truly enjoy your reactions and musical perspective. Thanks for another GREAT one!!!!
Thank you 😊
Home Free masterpiece!
Loved your surprised reaction! BTW, did you notice they sang the song in the same key as Cam (a female singer)? Tim's Pieces of Me album will definitely blow you away as well.
Thank you! Just wow!
First time seeing your reaction. Loved it. Home Free are so talented. Love them. Subscribed... Great reaction
Thank you!
Very cool to see Tim just going full Tim and just showing out. It's soo normal for Tim to just bring the thunder......but that dude can sing like very few on earth
I believe both Tim and Geoff from VoicePlay have advise for reaching those low notes that consists of, "work on your upper registry".
I love this one, with all the switch-ups of "roles" :D
Love it!
That is a great interview to watch. You learn a lot about Tim's journey, both in life and musically, in that.
This was simply wonderful. Performance and Reaction
In my opinion this is the most balanced harmonic group since the eagles or diamond rio, and possibly more controlled than diamond rio. These guys are amazing.
Pentatonix when Avi was also extremely well balanced. I think Pentatonix (with Avi), Home Free, and Voiceplay have been competing for top group
Jen this is by far my favorite reaction by you. And that "sir" at the beginning was so cute.
Lucky lady, Rob & now Tim 😍😍 these guys always do the unexpected, but they do it sooooo well ❤❤
Hahaha, love your reaction!
😂😂 hahah I know! So much to take in!!!
Well, Home free is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get- but it's gonna be awesome!
