I love it when people who have been reacting to Home Free for a while finally get to Mayday. The look on their faces when Tim and Chance sing is priceless.
Yes! That's why we keep trying to tell reactors "hold off a bit" when we see other commenters hyping "Mayday." It's SO much better if they wait until they know all 6 members and their voices before they watch "Mayday"! (In case anyone's confused, I'm counting Chris, the only one who has left post Sing-Off, and Chance, the only one who has entered post Sing-Off). (I do the same thing with Pentatonix reactors regarding the live Star Vista performance of "A-ha!")
@@janetranslates Very true! I've been following Home Free for quite a while already but only discovered Mayday recently. And I'm glad I did it this late, because that made me appreciate them even more. It is exactly as you said. When you know the guys already, and are familiar with what they do, listening to Mayday is just an AMAZING experience. I know that sometimes it's difficult to not get "spoilered" early on, but I'd definitely recommend waiting a bit and getting to know the band better before checking out their Mayday cover!
Tim ---- 5 octave range, Chance --- seriously velvet voice, Rob --- such an amazing tenor, Austin --- high tenor to die for, and Adam ---- drum kit in one voice box. WHAT????? One of the best singing groups ever.
And one reason why Adam is so great at beatboxing is that he has played the trumpet for many years, which is why he is so good at double and triple-tonguing the beats.
Some people may not care for the majority of songs they do as it is mostly country, which I personally have no issues with, BUT, you cannot question their individual talents and how well they put it all together seamlessly, they are the absolute best at what they do bar none imho, no slight on Pentatonix or any other groups...
@@amarama7654 From what I have found online (and I could be wrong) Tim's range is supposed to be 10 octaves (hard to believe, but I read it). He also holds the record for the lowest note by a human voice.
Home Free actually has a only harmony song called "Helplessly Hoping", where they actually get Adam Rupp (the drum kit as you aptly called him) to sing, which I'm led to believe is difficult. (He loves to beatbox but I guess he's shy about singing.) I do recommend that one, its a great song and waaaay different from what they usually do.
Love the reaction, If you listen to their version of "How Great Thou Art" you will have tears in your eyes, Alud Lang Syne is also wonderful, Seven Bridges Road is also a favorite of mine.
When Adam Chance joined the group, because of his range and especially his ability to handle the bass part, Tim's versatility really started to get showcased.
she got all of their names right even though it looked like she called Austin Rob she had already called him Austin so i think she was pointing to say she was trying to think of Rob's name she called all of them right otherwise!
This is one of my favorite covers by Home Free. Austin is the High Tenor and Rob is the guy with the awesome beard !!! Adam killed it as always on the beat boxing !
I emplor you to watch the live version! His Voice REALLY goes that DEEP! By far the most accurate representation of their abilities as a group! I didn't think the group could get any better but then you hear there harmony "live"... AMAZING!!!! Watch a live recording of them preforming this song then make another reaction video to that!!! You won't regret it!
Finally someone else who suggests this video. I suggest this video to everyone that's ever heard Home Free. Friends, family, random internet friends..IT'S SO GOOD!
Great to see you reacting to more Home Free, and this is a pretty special one. A beautiful performance from all of the singers, even if you don't know the bass is singing tenor, and the baritone is going lower than a lot of bass singers can. If you'd like to hear more of Austin's wonderful high, emotional, tenor, try the original he wrote for their last album, Love Me Like That.
Adam Chance has a four octave range that goes below C2, so he is only nominally a baritone. It isn't his fault that Faust's six-octave range reaches the bottom keys of a grand piano.
When they started the last part when they had Austin singing May Day and Rob came in with the sub chorus , Rob did it by himself, and then when they repeated it, Tim came in with a higher harmony behind Rob. Tim's higher register is so nice to hear. So bright and different from what we're usually used to hearing him do. Great role reversal in this song. They are so talented !!
Home Free is our favorite!! They're literally the only group we listen to anymore! And i honestly don't know how Tim's wife is married to him! If it was me, he would have to sing everything to me!!
The thing that shows me that they've made it as an artist, a musician and a singer is when someone, like yourself, just can't help yourself but sing along. That's true success to me :)
"He doesn't sound the way he looks" That's the reaction i get most of the time. I'm a bass and just 5'4", so yeah, people are often surprised that my voice is coming out of a "small" man.
The same reaction can you get, if you ar blond. For som reason, most people think that bass guys are big and have dark hair and beard (Rob), and well, it fits on Tim.
The same had happened to me as well back in highschool lol. Being a skinny 5'3" asian (at the time) people used to assume I'd have a high voice but when I walked out on the stage and hit some A1s in chest voice at 16 I had people running up to me afterwards asking me how I did it and how it was possible :) Now that I'm 5'10" and have more of a beard and moustache at nearly 20 though the lustre has vanished and I kind of miss everyone being shocked when I sang. They're still shocked, it's just they don't have the same "how is this 'kid' doing this" look in their eyes. Glad to see there was someone else who had those reactions.
I'm 5'8" and get the same reaction out of a lot of people especially since I learned how to sing subharmonically from Geoff Castelluci's tutorial video.
Ah they are SUCH an amazing group!!! They all sound so good! The one with the biggest beard, his voice reminds me of the lead singer of Rascal Flatts. Love these guys!
HI TARA, THAT WAS A GREAT SONG/VIDEO. WHEN THE BASS KICKED IN I GOT GOOSE BUMPS ALL OVER MY BODY. I ALWAYS ENJOY YOUR REACTIONS. BILL P.S. I, TOO, AM A HARMONIES FREEK LIKE YOU.
Their voices are so clean..tim s tenor to bass range is ridiculous, chance i never new had bass range rob killin it as always austin is ridiculously good adam beat box is awesome how do you get this much talent that blend so perfectly
This was the first time hearing this song, for me. And, to hear it done like this...I don't think I'll be able to hear the original without hearing this version over top of it. I've heard Tim doing parts other than bass before. Usually, though, they just go without a bass line when he does. Hearing someone else step up ( Chance, was it? ) was a pleasant surprise. Their vocals on this song were great. Not that they don't always go a great job. I think I have a new favorite song by Homefree. Thank you for reacting to this one. It was a great video.
I love how genuine your reactions are. You obviously know your craft. I grew up in school and church choir as a Bass. I stopped singing ears ago and thought I'd take your advice and record myself. It was so bad I almost cried. I lost so much. From what I can tell my skills are way below where your beginning classes start. It also looks like I need to learn to read music. At age 59 it is hard to start from scratch. You ARE wearing me down though!! *lol*
I feel like the only way this performance could possibly be topped would be if both Home Free and Cam would get together sometime and perform this song. I think it really would work because, if you can imagine the nature of the lyrics, being that its about a failing relationship between two people, you can imagine the story/situation being expressed from one character's perspective (female) and then from the other character (male). Man.... that'd be awesome! Hope they can do this in a future live performance, once the whole pandemic is over and we can all attend live performances again.
My favorite group. Every one of these guys is amazing. I don't think I have a favorite - they're all so good. Rob always reminds me of a 50's beatnik - hot rodder.
It helps when your bass members ( Tim, Adam ) can sing multiple octaves and be able to back each other up and then have there own solos. They just dropped a new one " God Bless the USA ", fearing Lee Greenwood and the singing sergeants of the air force singing sergeants
It’s wild to think that Tim is such a good vocalist especially in his low notes but also in his upper range. Then Adam who typically sings Baritone and has every capability to sing bass as he did before he joined Home Free.
As it gets closer to the holidays, you’ve gotta listen to their version of “Do you hear what I hear”!! Gives me goosebumps every time!! It’s not a live version but it’s still amazing!
Tara can you please react to Home Free’s “All about that Bass”? Just like this video, it showcases some of Tim’s range, and in that video you get to see their goofy side.
Hey Tara, you got Austin and Rob mixed up! Rob is the "beard' whereas Austin is the one with the emotive voice that you really liked. On another note, thanks for reacting to this!
Chance was the bass in the group Street Corner Symphony before he was asked to join Home Free. He’s a tremendous asset to the group. He takes the lead on a song called Cover Me Up, and it’s amazing
Thank you for the great reaction, don't you just love Tim and his starting of the song. He oughta do that more, all three of the first singers went higher and awesomely amazing. And Chase bass, wow, even Adam was extremely impressive. I love home free!!!!!!
This song was done shortly after Adam Chance joined. The story I heard was that Chance was the base of his previous group and could already go pretty low, but Tim taught him a few techniques to go even lower. Since Tim _used_ to be the only one who could sing low, he couldn't show off his higher register very often because he was needed for the baseline. This video's purpose was to A) Show off Chance's new and improved range and B) Show what Tim could do when someone else took the base line.
Rob is the tenor with the beard, Austin is the high tenor with the longer hair. Great reaction, they are awesome, try their cover of Can't Stop the Feeling
Tara, I really enjoy your 'reaction' videos. Best out there, IMHO! I too am a singer, an opera singer, who is 63 years young and has been performing opera and madrigal music for about 50 years now (started formal singing as a high school freshman). While I enjoy some pop music (and really enjoy Home Free), I'm also a fan of more traditional Madrigal styles and no group out there today does it better than VOCES8. Their live performances are as good as their studio recordings, which is NOT easy to do and as someone who knows the style quite well, there are things they simply 'nail', like blending, breath control and phrasing, and dynamics. And yes, they have an amazing bass! While most of their music is older in genre, they have done some more popular songs (a good version of 'Sound of Silence). Was hoping you'd consider doing a reaction video to one of their videos (I can make some recommendations). To give you a sample of their vocal abilities, here's a video of them singing Enya's 'May It Be'. Of note is the uniform way they're holding their hands and bodies. One goal of madrigal singing is 'unison' in sound and appearance. ruclips.net/video/x7M5ZqFSynQ/видео.html&start_radio=1
Glad you enojoyed this song.. its my favorite . .. Speaking of not judging a book by its cover.. have you seen/heard Teddy Swims sing? Just astonishing. Thanks!
Tim Foust (the first one you hear singing) is the main bass usually, but he showed his tenor today and he sung the baritone lines this time, which i really liked. His high range is not something to overlook, and I love the rare moments when he shows it of. Most of the time however, he sings the basslines or sing low lyric baritone. Sometimes lyric bass. He is well known for being one of the lowest bass singer ever. But his strengths would lie in his technique, he has such great breath control, meaning he can hold out long low notes, or continue a bassline for a long time without needing to breath. Austin Brown (the one who sang the chorus) is the groups main tenor. He has a really nice range, both able to sing low baritone, and sing comfortably in the high tenor range, he is a really cool lyric tenor who shows great controll. Though he usually goes for chestier mixes, he can soften it up when he needs to. Rob Lundquist (the one with the long beard) is usually the tenor harmony of the group. He doesn’t get the spotlight as often as the other two mentioned, and doesn’t sing as much lyrically. This doesn’t mean he doesn’t ever though. He usually get’s the more fun and upbeat song to sing lead on, but those are rare. Adam Chance (the one to sing the low parts of this song) is a baritone singer with a comfortable low range. He often sings bass when Tim sing lead, but for this song, he was the bass throughout, and I think he did a good job. He use to sing bass in a previous acapella band (Streat Corner Symphony, or SCS), but left it to join Home free when the previous baritone (Chris Rupp) left. And Adam Rupp is the beatoxer of the group, he has some of the most realistic drum sounds I’ve ever heard from a beatboxer, which perfectly fits the Country style of the group.
For your info .... Lead tenor: Austin Brown High Tenor: Rob Lundquist Baritone/Bass: Adam Chance Bass, and occasional tenor :-): Tim Foust Beat Boxer/Baritone: Adam Rupp
React to home free hillybilly bone it’s awesome oh also react to my church and in the blood by them also you should react to them with headphones and one more thing react to VoicePlay just sing.

Tim ---- 5 octave range, Chance --- seriously velvet voice, Rob --- such an amazing tenor, Austin --- high tenor to die for, and Adam ---- drum kit in one voice box. WHAT????? One of the best singing groups ever.
Tim’s range is C0-A5, but the A5 was melodical so he probably can go further few notes, which makes his range 6 octaves
And one reason why Adam is so great at beatboxing is that he has played the trumpet for many years, which is why he is so good at double and triple-tonguing the beats.
Suzanne Young oh, i thought he just ate a bunch of drum sets

Thanks!
We love you Tara ❤️
Home Free is great and Tara ist beautiful
