Tim can definitely go lower than that. You should listen to “Sold”, by John Michael Montgomery or “Do You Hear What I Hear”. This was written by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits in 1983 and recorded by them in 1985 as a tribute to the fallen soldiers of the war over the Falkland Islands. Another group named Club for Five did an a cappella version, and Home Free asked their permission to use their arrangement for this. Every version is excellent and very haunting and soulful.
I have always loved this song by Dire Straits but think Home Free did an excellent version of this song. Tim's natural breathy bass was awesome & so were all the guys doing 5 part harmonies. These guys are my favorite a cappella group out there.
I'm so happy you reacted to this one. It's a master class in harmony taking the place of instruments. The original song by Dire Straits had a haunting guitar. In this, the background vocals had to do the same job. And they did perfectly and to me this version is even more haunting because of it. Those final 2 chords always get to me. They sound just like an organ.
That bass note is Tim. He's done it before. The first time I think I heard it was on the Sing - Off performances. (They won season 4) and my jaw hit the floor, along with the judges on that show lol!
This is a serious song. I don't think you really grabbed the first scene of the MV, which is a cemetery with flags and shows the viewers what this song could be about. After the song started, you seemed to pay more attention to the melody and how the vocalists delivered their voices instead of listening to the lyrics. I don't think it's enough to make an analysis.
I know you are focused primarily on the musicality and arrangement...and I like that, but this is one of those songs that you need to go back and hear again without pausing. Pay attention to the lyrics and let the song touch you in the way the musicians intended when they recorded it.
I totally agree. I was reminded throughout this reaction of the saying “can’t see the forest for the trees”. Before trying to put the thought as politely as possible, I checked to see if anyone else had addressed it. You had done so perfectly.
Danielle, I love your reactions and your sharing of your vocal performance knowledge, thanks. But, I agree with Chris C. and DieGooleDie that in this song, the epic vocal talents of Home Free are a distant second to the power of the message conveyed in Mark Knopfler's lyrics. Please accept my comments as constructive criticism when I say that I was expecting part of your "reaction" to include an emotional component. The impact of the early scene where the camera pans across the flags flying above the graves hits me in the heart every time I watch the video. Each one of those flags represents a fallen soldier who was someone's father, husband, brother, son, friend, etc. I normally love upbeat reactions but I believe this song deserves a deeper look. From a loyal subscriber.
There's definitely a tonal dissonance between Danielle reacting cheerily and happily to a song about the last thoughts of a dying man realizing it was all for nothing, essentially. I've seen other reactors still commend on the music, but be sobered by the message, but she seems to have completely missed the sobriety of the song altogether. Feels a bit like an audience member laughing and cracking jokes in the middle of a serious moment at a funeral service.
I know you are a singer and so concentrate on the harmonies and the tricks and skills of the singers, but don't lose track of the lyrics and the message of the song. This is a dying man singing. He won't return home from this battlefield or war. He will die in a foreign land far from his home soil. It is an incredibly sad song trying to explain the futility and the human cost of war. Those that start wars aren't the ones who have to fight them and pay the price. Incredibly sad and moving lyrics.
Tim hits a D1 in Honey I'm Good and an E1 in Folsom Prison Blues. Watch some of their live stuff. Tim really shows his low end live. Your Man live is amazing. He has blown speakers doing it in concert.
Correct! Tim Foust is the best bass of all to me! Plus, it isn't all about the lowest note that a bass singer can hit. It's also who sounds the best while doing it! The most beautiful/pleasant sounding voice! I think Avi Kaplan & Geoff Castellucci are great bass singers too, but Tim has a more beautiful tone that is so warm and resonate! When he sings it feels like being wrapped up in a warm comfy blanket in front of a fireplace on a cold winter night! Nothing more sweet or delicious than that unless you add a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows in it! ♥️
@@melaniejanssen6090 😊 oops! Sorry, not sorry!😉 I admit wholeheartedly that I am a lady of a certain age or above that is a grey haired Foust Fan! Check out Tim collaboration with Peter Hollens doing Misty Mountains from the Hobbit. Tim is fantastic! Tim and Peter also did a fantastic cover of Bridge Over Trouble Waters.
I enjoy hearig your critiques on different song styles but in this one I think you missed a major point. Home free's rendition of this song puts real feeling into it,,, I served 20 years in the Army and truly understand what "Brothers In Arms" really are,,, this rendition puts words to feelings that a lot of veterans can' and won't talk about. I understand that you work with the music and arrangement but I thought that I would let you see a deeper side of the music. again,,, thank you for what you do!
Hi Charlie! Thank you so much for bringing a new light to the song for me! That’s is so so beautiful!!! I can’t imagine the things you’ve experienced in 20 years of serving! I love that this rendition put such an experience into words for you. Thank you for your service!
Harmony like only Home Free can do it is amazing. the high oh's are Adam the beatboxer you don't know his voice because he never sings lead , but has a beautiful tenor voice, he say he is not good enough but we know he is wrong
@@terrichristenson432I think he was just being modest. It is speculated that Adam's range because of his beatboxing is almost if not wider than Tim's.
The G#1 at the end is Tim and the growl he can do. It's insanely low and completely amazing. The fact he can take a note that low and with that much power behind it is amazing and highlights his extraordinary talent.
As a former Marine, this song always hits me hard. I had many brothers in arms. We were from cities, rural areas, every shade of skin tone. I knew that they had my back and they knew that I had theirs. It is a sobering idea that your life is in someone else's hands. I couldn't finish watching this reaction. The proper respect was not shown to the subject matter. It was like watching a teenager at a Boy Band concert.
Looks to me like she was paying tribute to the incredibly transcendent arrangement she was listening to; which in itself was a homage to the powerfully emotive subject matter. You should give it another watch and ask yourself if the subject matter was appropriately and fittingly respected by the arrangement. She did a great job pointing that out - she’s a singer, you’re a soldier - your respective approaches will differ. She was clearly blown away by the song, which I think is one of the best I’ve heard from Home Free - and better than the original.
@@marklh1 Never been a solder , but the greatness of this arrangement is the reference to it's subject matter. Don't know how one can listen to this with a smile on their face.
Those last two notes (and that was Tim).....to me....sound just like a pipe organ. I have done my share of singing with a pipe organ, and that's what I remember it sounding like.
Tim has gone as low as a G1, and to hear it in concert is just a rib-rattler. It's part of his 5 octave range. I don't think that the echo effect they sang is digital as each echo was slightly different, and not just in volume. This song is a sad commentary on war.
I'm genuinely surprised you're missing all these bass notes, you may need to turn your headphones up because when they occur in my headphones, they're ALWAYS the most prominent in the mix. 👌
Tim hits the G# 1 throughout this song. In the morning I can barely hit a G# 1 but with not nearly Tim's resonance. :) Check out Mayday for Tim's other voice :) ..
Please do go through and listen to the words. This was a tribute on Veteran’s Day last year (2021). The musical performance is gorgeous - but the words and the cinematography…. It is absolutely a tribute to veterans, and a poignant comment on war.

I would LOVE to hear you review In The Blood, by Home Free. one of the most gorgeous songs they have ever done, imho...thank you and all the best in 2022
Thumbs up to this performance, but thumbs down on you for not listening to the lyrics and understanding the sacrifices thousands of military men have made throughout history.
Exactly!! No reverence or respect was shown here, just a constant smile and talk about the musicality of the performance, which I do agree was fantastic. But she totally missed the most important element...the way the lyrics and the imagery make you FEEL. I had tears in my eyes, she, sadly, on the other hand, had a smile on her face!
I thought that Chance was taking some of the base notes during the vocalization harmonies, letting Tim do things in higher ranges. Also, that last chord at the end sounded like a cathedral pipe organ! AMAZING !
Ethereal. Haunting. Gut wrenching. Soul stirring. Angelic. The only thing missing was the seraphic choir backing them up. Excuse me while I track down my soul and stuff it back into my body...
Remember, assigning parts to the HF singers is only a convenience for the listeners. All four singers* can get below C2, which makes them basses, and above C5, which makes them tenors. Foust usually sings the really low notes because he can reach A0. Brown handles the top end because he can reach D6. Other than that, all bets are off. *Adam Rupp's range is unknown because he sings so rarely.
#subscriptionsquad Do me and all the other servicemen and women watching you, and please listen carefully to the words of this song, as well as notice all the graves in the images. This song is about a soldier dying far from home, but surrounded by his brothers in arms in the Falkland Islands War. StrayCatOR, I couldn't agree more!! This is not a happy song and the reactor totally missed the most important elements...the lyrics and the somber imagery. I don't mean to be insulting, but the fact that you concentrated on the music and not the message of this song is a disservice to it. This is NOT a song you listen to while grinning like an idiot. The song is solemn and serious and tragic and you treated it like it was bubblegum pop. Going on and on and on about the harmonies and utterly ignoring the actual song. Shame on you. The disrespect you showed this song in this reaction came very close to causing me to unsub from you. If you haven't listened to Dire Straits original version of this song, you owe it to yourself to do so. Mark Knopfler, Dire Straits lead singer, is generally considered one of the five greatest guitarists on the planet right now, and the original version of this song is just as haunting as this cover. Not that you'd know that, since you ignored the song in order to constantly chip about the singers.
Hi Danielle, you should check band called #nightwish and especially their current lead singer Floor Jansen. You could try "Ghost love score, Live at Wacken 2013" and go from there... ;-) #nightwish #floorjansen #ghostlovescore
Hi Danielle. I can't remember if you have done The guys doing Ring of Fire yet. They invited Avi formerly of Pentatonix to join in on that video. The very last note of that video is Tim hitting and fairly well sustaining a G1. If you haven't gotten to that yet, do yourself that favor. There is another personnel difference in that one as well. Adam Rupp's brother Chris (who started the band 20 some odd years ago, (before Tim, Rob and Austin joined), and he recommended Adam Chance as his replacement. By the way, to avoid confusion, he simply goes by Chance to simplify the 2 Adam issue. Chris and his brother Adam are the only 2 original members of the group. All the others were doing other things when they joined the group. Tim was teaching school. Rob was bartending. Austin was a cruise ship entertainer. Chance was in another group, where BTW he was that groups bass. He is of course now the baritone for these guys. Really enjoy watching your vids. looking forward to more. Would love to see you check out Patty loveless and her band (at the time) doing "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive". Here is a link. Take care. ruclips.net/video/1n57WBtvtC4/видео.html
Even though this is good version of good arrangement I still prefer Club For Five's original arrangement because of two female voices and bass is more consistant.
You should do one more recent songs, such as Mary Did You Know, a song for Christmas, then I think you are ready for May Day by Cam. What do you guys think?
I'm sorry, but you were "hearing so many different things" you missed the incredible message of this song. I usually enjoy your reactions but you blew this one.
You mentioned the harmonies so I wanted to come and comment that this arrangement was made by a Finnish a cappella group called Club For Five. A proud Finnish girl moment here 😄❤
New to your channel. I just discovered Home Free a few months ago and I'm now 'big-time addicted' to their music. Just wanted to add that you are the personification of adorable.
This is a great cover, and it's probably also buried deep in the comments already - I would also point listeners to the lesser known Finnish Group "Club for 5" who did a mind blowing cover, which I believe was "lent" to home Free to produce this. All standing on the shoulders of Mark Knopfler's genius but special in their own ways
I believe the Bass note was Tim and he hit a G1 at the end of Ring of Fire. Has gone lower, and you can see him hit and E1 in Folsom Prison Blues. This song is amazing. And we like when you "rewind" because you hear something different or unexpected. That is why I myself like your reactions. So please, don't apologize or quit doing that. Because you/anyone rarely hears EVERY LITTLE DETAIL the first time we hear the song. And Welcome Back and thank you for sharing this with us.
the neglected, desolate cemetery really gets me. What an awful way to treat our heros, plus the light shining thru Tim and Chance as tho they're memories. of course, the lyrics and the voices make this so awful and awsome!. gotta watch it a dozen more times, at least. too much to absorb!
This was such a creative arrangement of a beautiful song. I was really curious what they were going to do, because there's no way you're going to capture Knopfler's incredible guitar, and the Home Free Boys did not disappoint. Wow. Just, wow.
As with all reactors, I'd guess that you are as busy as a one-armed paperhanger. Even so, when I checked for a "Home Free" playlist on your channel's home page, I didn't find any such beast. When you have time (right), kindly create one. Thanks.

Cool. Both the performance and that I wished a few days ago that someone like PTX or Home Free would do Brothers in Arms, so someone could react to that, so I could watch that. And here YT recommends just that kind of video uploaded 8 days ago. Am I a creator, or can YT read my mind now?
Great reaction, but you missed that Adam Rupp wasn't beatboxing actually singing he gets missed a lot by reactors Tim hits G#1 he does it in Misty Mountains with Peter Hollens and in Ring of Fire. he has know to go lower
Loved this when Dire Straits did it. I love this version even more. They really captured the mood and emotion of the song. I wonder if they could do The Grave by Don MacLean. If they do we'll all be sobbing.

Grumpy, I agree totally!! No reverence was shown here. I had tears in my eyes, while she had a constant smile on her face. So disrespectful!!
Just for a little bit of change, I’d love for you to check out Home Free’s cover of “Hillbilly Bone”
Hi Danielle, you should check band called #nightwish and especially their current lead singer Floor Jansen. You could try "Ghost love score, Live at Wacken 2013" and go from there... ;-) #nightwish #floorjansen #ghostlovescore
You should react to Numbers by Melanie Martinez!!!!!
P.S. As a Veteran of two wars, this song just about wiped me out! To my Brothers in Arms!!
“Mary Did You Know” is hardly recent. Notice Chris Rupp is still in that performance.
@@bingobillable Chris Rupp is not in this video. It was just released December 3, 2021. Adam Chance and Adam Rupp are on the back row.
Sorry thinking about “Do You Hear What I Hear”.
@@bingobillable LOL. That is easily done.
The smiling during a song about death is sickening..
I so agree!! I was offended.
Being an Army Brat, this song really resonates in me. Tim's bass is perfect for the lead and Chance adds so much depth too.
I'm sorry, but you were "hearing so many different things" you missed the incredible message of this song. I usually
enjoy your reactions but you blew this one.
"I wonder who's singing that tenor today" ...with Home free, could be any of them.
This video is hauntingly beautiful song
Tim's last note in Ring of Fire is a G1 natural.
In your free time check out Club for 5. Home Free got this arrangement from them and their bassist is incredible as well.
You mentioned the harmonies so I wanted to come and comment that this arrangement was made by a Finnish a cappella group called Club For Five. A proud Finnish girl moment here 😄❤
Tim has hit lower. So has the beat boxer.
New to your channel. I just discovered Home Free a few months ago and I'm now 'big-time addicted' to their music. Just wanted to add that you are the personification of adorable.
Welcome down the rabbit hole.
You should listen to the version of the finnish a capella group "club for 5" on wich this version is based
I should go to sleep, it is so late now here... but I will wait :) This performance is so stunning, and I'm just so excited to hear your reaction...
Eeeep! Right to sleep after! 😴
He literally sang down to G#1 in the verses🤦♀️and you only notice it in the end.
You have a very beautiful, clear voice!
Tim is a master at his craft, for sure!
@@charleslee32958 She does, doesn't she.
Home free, In the blood.
Being an American Vet this song gets me, you know right there !!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for your service and sacrifice!!
Tims range is 0A-5A. He can cover 5 octaves
🙌
👏🏻
Tim Foust You Are My Favorite And My Dad’s Favorite Bass Singer I Love You Tim Foust🥰
the neglected, desolate cemetery really gets me. What an awful way to treat our heros, plus the light shining thru Tim and Chance as tho they're memories. of course, the lyrics and the voices make this so awful and awsome!. gotta watch it a dozen more times, at least. too much to absorb!
Chance and Tim's silhouettes in the window always remind me of the POW/MIA flag.
This one you can't interrupt darling. Grow up.
Nasty stupid laughing over so many casualties. Review this one with your soul. Everything else is juvenile.
Tim can hit A0/B0
Need to hear End of the Road, Folsom Prison Blues, Ring of Fire, when a man loves a woman and then Mayday.....
hey you are so energetic and so beautiful. I love hearing your comments. Please continue this work. Sorry for my typos, I use google translate.
You should listen this song from Finnish band called Club for Five!! This version isn't nothing compared to Club for Five!!!!
If you want to know how low Tim can go, check out their Bass Battle : ruclips.net/video/26s5QkgxtBc/видео.html
This was such a creative arrangement of a beautiful song. I was really curious what they were going to do, because there's no way you're going to capture Knopfler's incredible guitar, and the Home Free Boys did not disappoint. Wow. Just, wow.
Recommend you react to Nothing Else Matters cover by VoicePlay
I'm from Brazil, react Pentatonix Mary, did You Know
As with all reactors, I'd guess that you are as busy as a one-armed paperhanger. Even so, when I checked for a "Home Free" playlist on your channel's home page, I didn't find any such beast. When you have time (right), kindly create one. Thanks.
You build a house on a foundation....Tim Foust is said foundation. That guy drops the hammer with ease.....
Newly subed! A truly beautiful video you might enjoy is "Avi Kaplan -All Is Well = 7 layer Sessions # 126" IIt's a stunning version of one of his originals on his newly released Floating on a Dream album ~~
Can you please check out Tim Faust's cover of Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/ Stay ? I promise you'll love what you hear ! Tim does pretty much the whole thing by himself and it's 100% a capella
Danielle, I love your reactions and insightful comments, And yes, Tim is amazing. 2 suggestions: Thinking out loud/Lets get it on, and Tim doing Will you still love me tomorrow/Stay. these 2 songs
really show their versatility. I'm sure you will love them both. ooo! ooo! Austin and Tim doing My Maria.
Mark Knopfler wrote it and Dire Straits played it. Mark's ability to express deep concepts economically and then put them to music is genius.
You should check out Tim Foust and Peter Hollens singing Misty Mountains from The Hobbit. That will fill your low notes quota.
# subscription squad - would love for you to analyze the voice and song of Jamey Johnson, “Lead Me Home” very meaningful song
try "Ring of Fire"...Tim goes to G1 then watch his single's cover of "will you still love me tomorrow/Stay" to hear him hit a G5...
I'm sorry, but I couldn't manage to breakdown the technical aspects of this. The emotion overrides intellect
The reason your doing this is because of the sacrifice they sing of. Enjoy your unknowing....
Loved this when Dire Straits did it. I love this version even more. They really captured the mood and emotion of the song. I wonder if they could do The Grave by Don MacLean. If they do we'll all be sobbing.
Your middle name is beautiful. My deceased fiance had that middle name too. Sorry to burden you with that but I do love your videos, and I LOVE Home Free!
you should listen to homefree's version and dire streaghts'performance
If you want to hear Tim’s low, check out Peter Hollens and Tim Foust , Misty Mountain. Stay for the last note and shiver!
