I think you missed one impressive thing: right after the bass sang his line, he sang the same line again, but one octave lower. A lot of people miss it because it doesn't sound human. His name is Tim Foust and he actually broke my subwoofer with Folsom Prison Blues.
In the opening scene, the members are: Front Left - Rob Lundquist - tenor Front Center - Austin Brown - tenor (super highs) Front Right - Tim Foust - basso profundo (5 octave range) Back Left - Adam Chance - baritone Back Right - Adam Rupp - beatboxer Occasionally Tim will take a higher part and Adam Chance will take over the base line. They do some amazing stuff.
Yup, they've been around since 2000. Picked up and lost quite a few members during that time. But since they won the Sing-Off TV Show in 2013, they've had only one personnel change. Founding member Chris Rupp (Adam's brother) left in 2016 or 2017, and was replaced by Adam Chance. You'll see Chris in a number of Home Free's older vids. Chris also has solo stuff, duets with his sister Tristin, and small ensemble pieces on his personal YT channel and on the 7th Ave Band channel. Adam Chance is just called "Chance," to avoid confusion with Adam Rupp. Austin Brown is a very popular soloist. He has his own YT channel. And some vids on the Home Free channel, such as "When a Man Loves a Woman," are essentially Austin solos as well. Tim Foust's bass work is comparable to Avi Kaplan (formerly of Pentatonix) or Geoff Castellucci (of Voiceplay). Home Free has a couple vids of Adam Rupp doing "drum solos" during live performances. You might find them amazing. It used to be that everything HF did in concert was 100% live. But now with some of these complex songs like the one you just listened to, they use a looping machine on stage. Because even Adam Rupp can't do fake drums and fake harmonica at the same time.
You shouldn't spoil the surprises in Mayday like that... That twist is one of the coolest parts... and I would argue that Tim has closer to 6 full octaves of range.
The best part of watching someone react to Home Free is when the person gets excited early in the song and you know they haven’t shifted out of first gear yet and are really about to hit them with something
So glad you have added Home Free to the a cappella mix. They are country based but do many other styles, making them uniquely their own. Watch Rob (the 2nd tenor to sing here) let go in “End of the Road”. I love the harmonies in “Helplessly Hoping”. And one of their most breathtaking videos is their version of “How Great Thou Art”. Elvira is one of my favorite songs that Home Free has done. They collaborated with The Oak Ridge Boys, so it's kind of new school meets old school in one song :)
My favorite is their version of devil went down to Georgia with Charlie Daniel, although as far as I know they didn't make a video (which makes me sad).
Danielle, with all the fantastic music you react to, I was very surprised to find out that you hadn't experienced my favorite acapella group yet! Home Free is phenomenal!! Probably because they started in my state of Minnesota. 😁 Okay, here is a group primer: Rob Lundquist (far left): smooooth tenor vocals and a constant source of humor. Adam Chance (back left): versatile baritone/bass who takes over the bass part when Tim takes the lead. Goes by Chance to avoid confusion with the other Adam. He was doing the "mouth harp" on this. Austin Brown (middle): beautiful soaring tenor vocals and adds a few little yodels on certain songs. Adam Rupp (back right): the walking percussion machine who did the "harmonica" on this. Pretty sure he's not human. Tim Foust (far right): bass with an incredible range. His lowest notes come from the mines of Moria. Also, on some older videos, you will see a gentleman who's not in this (usually wearing a cowboy hat); that's Chris Rupp, Adam's brother, who left a few years ago to pursue a solo career and was replaced by Chance. Everything these guys do is gold, and here are my suggestions for moving forward: "How Great Thou Art" and "Helplessly Hoping" (sheer vocal perfection), "All About That Bass" and "The Butts Medley" (for their hilariously goofy side), "Folsom Prison Blues" (even deeper vocals from Tim and more of Adam's harmonica), "Blue Ain't Your Color" (shows their genre versatility), and my favorite Home Free song, "Do You Hear What I Hear?" You'd better get to work, my friend; the rabbit hole is deep, but oh so magical! 😊
Todd Erickson: good selection there. I would add Hillbilly Bone (cover of Blake Shelton's song ft. Trace Adkins) - after hearing that one followed by Folsom Prison Blues, with my good headphones, all the sounds of nature seemed to be "pale" in comparison - I kept on expecting the rich bass sounds of nature, but never felt I heard the representation correctly. Maybe my ears are damaged as a result? (lol). Just saying - Hillbilly Bone is a good addition to the list. And if Danielle Marie Sings likes bass, then those two songs would be a good reaction video to do - contrasting from Folsom (serious, but a little cheeky) to Hillbilly (pretty much all-out fun and humorous)

Adam Rupp the Beatboxer I like to say must have swallowed a complete drum kit as a child and it's been trying to escape ever since.. you can see him do complete drum solos on line...he is one of the most talented beat boxers perferming today!! So glad you enjoyed this group!!
Adam plays several instruments, drums being one of them. So, he knows what drummers are capable of doing and keeps it realistic. He doesn't do things that a natural drummer wouldn't be able to do.
How Great Thou Art and Helplessly Hoping (from Crosby, Stills and Nash) are 5 voice, no "percussion" songs. They do a John Denver song - Take Me Home Country Roads. Some military tearjerkers - Travelin' Soldier and Go Rest High On That Mountain. Tissues required. They did a remake of American Pie with Don Mclean. I grew up with this song and was so glad he did it with them. And an Ed Sheeran song - Castle On The Hill. They also did a tik-tok style Sea Shanty Medley. They were born to do these songs. It's not one of their big songs, but I like Moonshine. They do a few Christmas songs, including an excellent "Do You Hear What I Hear". Dive Bar Saints is an original contemporary country song.

The first vocalist is Austin, high tenor, he can use the twang but he has gorgeous high notes as well. The second vocalist was Rob, tenor, He has a lot of soul and can do insane runs and also is an underrated whistler in some of their songs. The Bass is Tim. He can go crazy low and actually taught Avi and Geoff how to go lower with the growl technique. He also has a 5 octave range. The beatboxer is Adam. He is a human drum kit and can make more sounds than you can imagine. Chance is the baritone. He can use overtone singing techniques like you heard here with his jaw harp impression throughout the song. He can also cover bass whenever Tim takes the lead and has a general great rolling baritone sound as well.

I think you might be referring to his impression of a 'mouth harp' or a 'jaw harp' which is a prominent instrument in The Old South, in the USA, & this is a traditional Southern song & there are no didgeridoos in The South, because those are from Australia, on the other side of the planet. If you are not familiar with The South, then this is understandable. The South, is it's own culture. English is just a really messed up language. We borrow words & phrases from other cultures & then butcher the correct pronunciation & then totally misappropriate where they came from. Most of us just smile & nod & shake our head in disbelief at our own language... Please don't feel bad at all. :-) The real question is how does Adam Chance make the sound of this instrument, because it is a metal instrument & typically sounds nothing like the human voice. But then again, how does Adam Rupp make the sound of a harmonica? These guys are just crazy talented & must have practiced for hours & hours to perfect these sounds. It blows my mind every time I hear this song. I love it & I love Home Free. They are amazing in so many ways & also very funny.
The one thing I can't get into with them is how Austin forces a twang. It just ruins so much of what he does otherwise. If he'd just sing it straight with his actual voice/accent, it would be so much better.
1st singer/pretty-boy high tenor: Austin Brown. 2nd singer/bearded teddy-bear anchor tenor: Rob Lundquist. Beat-boxer/harmonica mimic: Adam Rupp, one of the original founders. Least obvious singer/neat beard, baritone-bass: Adam Chance, usually referred to as "Chance" to avoid getting him mixed up with beat-boxer Adam. He does a lot of low-profile things in this particular song--but he's incredible in his own right. Get used to the Boys sharing the spotlight and letting each person strut their stuff regularly. Super Bass: Tim Foust--five octave range, strong in all of them. All of them are so dratted talented.
They did the great classic "American Pie" with the legendary og singer Don McClean, in that video, each of them except beat boxer Adam Rupp, sang a verse so it is a great way to hear them individually.
Geoff Castelucci and Tim Foust are good friends, I keep hoping they do another collab together someday. Great reaction, there are a dozen HF vids that I could recommend, but "Cover Me Up" and "Helplessly Hoping" are two favorites that bring tears every time. "Folsom Prison Blues" and "Sea Shanty Medley" are great fun!
My favorite is "how great thou art", "ring of fire" "hopelessly helping", and on and on. Each one you play may we'll be your favorite until you play another.
I learned the harmonica sound when I was younger, and messing around. For me, it was restricting air flow to the soft palette while drawing your tongue back, but keeping it flat. I don't know how to explain it better, but it sounds the same.
Adam Rupp is the beatboxer and he is doing the harmonica and drum effects. Adam Chance is Baritone and he is also doing the mouth harp (didgeridoo) effect. Tim Faust is the deep bass however he has a wide range. Rob Lindquist is the bearded guy in the bibs who was the second soloist he also does the dub dub doo routine. Austin Brown was the first soloist. They will sing the songs with various lead singers then they choose the one that they all like the most. They are excellent.
Loved the reaction! One of my favorites by them is their cover of "Never Gonna Give You Up" that they recorded during the quarantine. They "Rick-Rolled" their entire fan base on April Fool's Day. Not only is it hilarious, but the vocals are incredible. Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole!

One of my all time favorites is " Do you hear what I hear" just unbelievable!!!! Great Christmas song by these guys. To be honest. There is not one song that is bad. These guys are just the best out there. Just crazy good!!!!
It doesn't get any better than Home Free and the rabbit hole is deep. They do all kinds of covers and original music, all with a country flair, all a capella..they do use a looper in concert to help layer the percussion when doing things like the harmonica solo...they all can do basic beatboxing...Adam Rupp is the vocal percussionist and is nicknamed "Freak of Nature" because of his ability mimic real instruments. They all take turns being leads in songs or in a song itself...if you look at American Pie ft. Don McLean, the original song writer, they all have a piece of the lead....just one example. Also Adam Rupp has several "Drum Solo" videos that you can watch him do his thing...the main one people react to is him in a red flannel and is over 6 years old..but will still floor you. Austin Brown is the high tenor that was lead in this song...he is just amazing. Rob Lundquist is the second tenor, with the full beard, and has that soulful voice you can hear in "Blue is not your color" and "End of the Road" amongst others. Tim Foust is the bass with the +5 octave range. Adam "Chance" is a bariton/bass who can sing bass when Tim takes lead, and he was doing that Jaw Harp sound in this..he is the newest member. In older videos you will see Chris Rupp (usually wears a cowboy hat) and he and Adam Rupp co-founded the group in college.

Misty mountains Peter Hollens feat Tim Foust (bass in Home Free) also a good intro to Peter hollens. He layers himself, so all the voices in that song were just those two. The highs and lows in that piece are amazing.
This was a very good song to start with. I'd definitely recommend the cover they did of American Pie with Don McLean. That one really showcases each of their voices since they each get a verse.

Great reaction. This group gained the bulk of their current fame on a, sadly short lived, tv acapella contest show called The Sing Off. (Definitely jump down that rabbit hole if you get time.) They won the year after Pentatonix (I am shocked there is no PTX in your catalog yet btw.) I believe it was 2012.
15 years ago HomeFree sang at a Ranch Party in Okla. They sang several gospel songs that had many people turning their lives to Christ. Amazing gift for us all.
I want to say that Home Free and VoicePlay competed in the same season of Sing Off with Home Free winning that season. I believe voice play was eliminated mid season like week 5ish.

Adam has never competed internationally, so this is false information. He has won two local sweepstakes in Midwest more than a decade ago. He has said that he is not interested in competing and that he prefers musicianship over gimmicks.

SO happy you found Home Free. I have been to 6 of their concerts and I have tickets for a December concert. Tim Foust hits bass notes, at concerts, that vibrate your body and your chair. Live performances are a whole body experience that I have never had at any other groups concert. Their concerts are always less expensive too.

So Home Free basically take turns in the spotlight. Their videos will very heavily feature one member for a couple videos than they switch who that is. If you want a REALLY good overview of each member, you should check out the 50th anniversary version of American Pie by Don Mclean and Home Free. They basically each get a verse.
The sounds from the one with the hands are coming most likely from a "turkey call" Its a small reed that goes under the tongue and can make the sounds, but the echoes and vibrations are done with the hands. It's a very distinct talent with the way he's playing it. I've never been able to use them, but i know people that can use them while also singing as well.

One of the great things about Home Free is that there isn’t a “lead” singer. When they start working on a song, they pick the person who fits it the best. Sometimes it’s Austin (the first tenor) sometimes it’s Rob (second singer), sometimes it’s Chance (the one you see last), and even Tim (the bass) takes the lead in some songs. I forgot Adam Rupp (vocal percussionist) has a beautiful tenor voice, but he prefers to stay in the background.
You missed that Chance doing overtone singing with his jaw harp effect. I'm also unsure if the crackling vintage recording effect at the beginning and end were voice-produced sounds, but I suspect they may have been. Rob is the bearded high tenor, Austin, tenor, has the red hair & brown hat, Tim is their bass, Adam is their beatboxer/harmonica (who does sometimes occasionally sing), and Chance is their baritone/second bass. Adam is the primary rhythm section, with backup from Tim & Chance. Fantastically talented guys.

The last guy is Adam Chance, who goes by "Chance" so they don't mix him up with beatboxer Adam Rupp. Chance wasn't with the group when they were founded, but joined when Chris Rupp (beatboxer Adam Rupp's brother) left Home Free to pursue a solo career. You don't get a chance to her Chance much in "Man of Constant Sorrow", but you can hear him on many other covers like "Helplessly Hoping", "Fulsom Prison Blues", "Blue Ain't Your Color", "Born in the USA", and "Sea Shanty Medley". Chance is a great baritone and covers the bass when Tim (bass) takes the lead. To hear Adam Rupp, the beatboxer sing, check out "How Great Thou Art". He seldom sings, but he does there. Home Free is just a great group. Home Free fans call themselves Home Fries and they span all ages, ethnic groups, religions, etc. Home Free can do just about any genre of music from country to rock to ballads. I keep asking them for Mozart. They haven't done it yet, but I keep hoping. Personally, I think they'd kill it.
Given how popular they are its surprising so few. I'd put Voctave into a slightly different division, but I suppose the line between a cappella and choir is pretty vague.

My favorite song they sing is Auld Lang Syne, because it’s an incredibly difficult arrangement, of a common song, that they make seem easy and simple. To me that may be the most perfect thing any artist can do, make something mind boggling difficult seem simple… like a perfect circle.

They are all college educated, some in vocal music. Austin the lead in this song is their high tenor, his college major was Musical Theater. And Rob the second tenor was a Vocal Music major. Their beatnoxer, Adam Rupp has a college degree in Trumpet performance and has a beautiful voice but prefers not to sing much. He will do harmonies with the other guys but never takes a lead vocal.

Yup, they've been around since 2000. Picked up and lost quite a few members during that time. But since they won the Sing-Off TV Show in 2013, they've had only one personnel change. Founding member Chris Rupp (Adam's brother) left in 2016 or 2017, and was replaced by Adam Chance. You'll see Chris in a number of Home Free's older vids. Chris also has solo stuff, duets with his sister Tristin, and small ensemble pieces on his personal YT channel and on the 7th Ave Band channel.
Adam Chance is just called "Chance," to avoid confusion with Adam Rupp.
Austin Brown is a very popular soloist. He has his own YT channel. And some vids on the Home Free channel, such as "When a Man Loves a Woman," are essentially Austin solos as well.
Tim Foust's bass work is comparable to Avi Kaplan (formerly of Pentatonix) or Geoff Castellucci (of Voiceplay).
Home Free has a couple vids of Adam Rupp doing "drum solos" during live performances. You might find them amazing. It used to be that everything HF did in concert was 100% live. But now with some of these complex songs like the one you just listened to, they use a looping machine on stage. Because even Adam Rupp can't do fake drums and fake harmonica at the same time.

You shouldn't spoil the surprises in Mayday like that... That twist is one of the coolest parts... and I would argue that Tim has closer to 6 full octaves of range.

So glad you have added Home Free to the a cappella mix. They are country based but do many other styles, making them uniquely their own. Watch Rob (the 2nd tenor to sing here) let go in “End of the Road”. I love the harmonies in “Helplessly Hoping”. And one of their most breathtaking videos is their version of “How Great Thou Art”. Just an FYI on the Beatboxer, Adam "The Freak of Nature" Rupp ... he was twice voted "Best All Around Beatboxer" by his Peers at the World Beatboxing Expo"
Where did this come from? I cannot find that information anywhere, please cite where you have found that Adam was voted best beatboxer in the world anywhere other than RUclips.

Elvira is one of my favorite songs that Home Free has done. They collaborated with The Oak Ridge Boys, so it's kind of new school meets old school in one song :)
My favorite is their version of devil went down to Georgia with Charlie Daniel, although as far as I know they didn't make a video (which makes me sad).
Another cool thing about HF's cover of "Elvira" is the person that did arranging for it is VoicePlay's Geoff Castellucci
Danielle, with all the fantastic music you react to, I was very surprised to find out that you hadn't experienced my favorite acapella group yet! Home Free is phenomenal!! Probably because they started in my state of Minnesota. 😁 Okay, here is a group primer:
Rob Lundquist (far left): smooooth tenor vocals and a constant source of humor.
Adam Chance (back left): versatile baritone/bass who takes over the bass part when Tim takes the lead. Goes by Chance to avoid confusion with the other Adam. He was doing the "mouth harp" on this.
Austin Brown (middle): beautiful soaring tenor vocals and adds a few little yodels on certain songs.
Adam Rupp (back right): the walking percussion machine who did the "harmonica" on this. Pretty sure he's not human.
Tim Foust (far right): bass with an incredible range. His lowest notes come from the mines of Moria.
Also, on some older videos, you will see a gentleman who's not in this (usually wearing a cowboy hat); that's Chris Rupp, Adam's brother, who left a few years ago to pursue a solo career and was replaced by Chance.
Everything these guys do is gold, and here are my suggestions for moving forward: "How Great Thou Art" and "Helplessly Hoping" (sheer vocal perfection), "All About That Bass" and "The Butts Medley" (for their hilariously goofy side), "Folsom Prison Blues" (even deeper vocals from Tim and more of Adam's harmonica), "Blue Ain't Your Color" (shows their genre versatility), and my favorite Home Free song, "Do You Hear What I Hear?"

Todd Erickson: good selection there. I would add Hillbilly Bone (cover of Blake Shelton's song ft. Trace Adkins) - after hearing that one followed by Folsom Prison Blues, with my good headphones, all the sounds of nature seemed to be "pale" in comparison - I kept on expecting the rich bass sounds of nature, but never felt I heard the representation correctly. Maybe my ears are damaged as a result? (lol). Just saying - Hillbilly Bone is a good addition to the list.
And if Danielle Marie Sings likes bass, then those two songs would be a good reaction video to do - contrasting from Folsom (serious, but a little cheeky) to Hillbilly (pretty much all-out fun and humorous)

Adam Rupp the Beatboxer I like to say must have swallowed a complete drum kit as a child and it's been trying to escape ever since.. you can see him do complete drum solos on line...he is one of the most talented beat boxers perferming today!! So glad you enjoyed this group!!
That's how I like to describe Adam too. The only one I've heard that can rival him would be Layne Stein from VoicePlay.

Adam plays several instruments, drums being one of them. So, he knows what drummers are capable of doing and keeps it realistic. He doesn't do things that a natural drummer wouldn't be able to do.
"Ring of Fire", "Helplessly Hoping", "In the Blood", "Crazy", "My Church" all really showcase the talents (not to mention the Christmas songs too.
How Great Thou Art and Helplessly Hoping (from Crosby, Stills and Nash) are 5 voice, no "percussion" songs.
They do a John Denver song - Take Me Home Country Roads.
Some military tearjerkers - Travelin' Soldier and Go Rest High On That Mountain. Tissues required.
They did a remake of American Pie with Don Mclean. I grew up with this song and was so glad he did it with them.
And an Ed Sheeran song - Castle On The Hill.
They also did a tik-tok style Sea Shanty Medley. They were born to do these songs.
It's not one of their big songs, but I like Moonshine.
They do a few Christmas songs, including an excellent "Do You Hear What I Hear".
Dive Bar Saints is an original contemporary country song.

The first vocalist is Austin, high tenor, he can use the twang but he has gorgeous high notes as well.
The second vocalist was Rob, tenor, He has a lot of soul and can do insane runs and also is an underrated whistler in some of their songs.
The Bass is Tim. He can go crazy low and actually taught Avi and Geoff how to go lower with the growl technique. He also has a 5 octave range.
The beatboxer is Adam. He is a human drum kit and can make more sounds than you can imagine.
Chance is the baritone. He can use overtone singing techniques like you heard here with his jaw harp impression throughout the song. He can also cover bass whenever Tim takes the lead and has a general great rolling baritone sound as well.
didgeridoo? ? ? ... umm... I think you might be referring to his impression of a 'mouth harp' or a 'jaw harp' which is a prominent instrument in The Old South, in the USA, & this is a traditional Southern song & there are no didgeridoos in The South, because those are from Australia, on the other side of the planet. If you are not familiar with The South, then this is understandable. The South, is it's own culture. FYI - The instrument in question exists in many cultures & is also commonly referred to a 'Jew's harp' but it actually has nothing to do with Jews at all, kind of like 'French Fries' have nothing to do with France, & 'Canadian Bacon' has nothing to do with Canada. English is just a really messed up language. We borrow words & phrases from other cultures & then butcher the correct pronunciation & then totally misappropriate where they came from. Most of us just smile & nod & shake our head in disbelief at our own language... Please don't feel bad at all. :-)
The real question is how does Adam Chance make the sound of this instrument, because it is a metal instrument & typically sounds nothing like the human voice. But then again, how does Adam Rupp make the sound of a harmonica? These guys are just crazy talented & must have practiced for hours & hours to perfect these sounds. It blows my mind every time I hear this song. I love it & I love Home Free. They are amazing in so many ways & also very funny.

The one thing I can't get into with them is how Austin forces a twang. It just ruins so much of what he does otherwise. If he'd just sing it straight with his actual voice/accent, it would be so much better.

1st singer/pretty-boy high tenor: Austin Brown. 2nd singer/bearded teddy-bear anchor tenor: Rob Lundquist. Beat-boxer/harmonica mimic: Adam Rupp, one of the original founders. Least obvious singer/neat beard, baritone-bass: Adam Chance, usually referred to as "Chance" to avoid getting him mixed up with beat-boxer Adam. He does a lot of low-profile things in this particular song--but he's incredible in his own right. Get used to the Boys sharing the spotlight and letting each person strut their stuff regularly. Super Bass: Tim Foust--five octave range, strong in all of them.
All of them are so dratted talented.
They did the great classic "American Pie" with the legendary og singer Don McClean, in that video, each of them except beat boxer Adam Rupp, sang a verse so it is a great way to hear them individually.

Geoff Castelucci and Tim Foust are good friends, I keep hoping they do another collab together someday. Great reaction, there are a dozen HF vids that I could recommend, but "Cover Me Up" and "Helplessly Hoping" are two favorites that bring tears every time. "Folsom Prison Blues" and "Sea Shanty Medley" are great fun!
My favorite is "how great thou art", "ring of fire" "hopelessly helping", and on and on. Each one you play may we'll be your favorite until you play another.
I learned the harmonica sound when I was younger, and messing around. For me, it was restricting air flow to the soft palette while drawing your tongue back, but keeping it flat. I don't know how to explain it better, but it sounds the same.

Adam Rupp is the beatboxer and he is doing the harmonica and drum effects. Adam Chance is Baritone and he is also doing the mouth harp (didgeridoo) effect. Tim Faust is the deep bass however he has a wide range. Rob Lindquist is the bearded guy in the bibs who was the second soloist he also does the dub dub doo routine. Austin Brown was the first soloist. They will sing the songs with various lead singers then they choose the one that they all like the most. They are excellent.

Loved the reaction! One of my favorites by them is their cover of "Never Gonna Give You Up" that they recorded during the quarantine. They "Rick-Rolled" their entire fan base on April Fool's Day. Not only is it hilarious, but the vocals are incredible. Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole!
Home Free really floors me. Their music is so very exceptional. I've been listening to them for a few months now and I'm just in awe over their work.

One of my all time favorites is " Do you hear what I hear" just unbelievable!!!! Great Christmas song by these guys. To be honest. There is not one song that is bad. These guys are just the best out there. Just crazy good!!!!
It doesn't get any better than Home Free and the rabbit hole is deep. They do all kinds of covers and original music, all with a country flair, all a capella..they do use a looper in concert to help layer the percussion when doing things like the harmonica solo...they all can do basic beatboxing...Adam Rupp is the vocal percussionist and is nicknamed "Freak of Nature" because of his ability mimic real instruments. They all take turns being leads in songs or in a song itself...if you look at American Pie ft. Don McLean, the original song writer, they all have a piece of the lead....just one example. Also Adam Rupp has several "Drum Solo" videos that you can watch him do his thing...the main one people react to is him in a red flannel and is over 6 years old..but will still floor you. Austin Brown is the high tenor that was lead in this song...he is just amazing. Rob Lundquist is the second tenor, with the full beard, and has that soulful voice you can hear in "Blue is not your color" and "End of the Road" amongst others. Tim Foust is the bass with the +5 octave range. Adam "Chance" is a bariton/bass who can sing bass when Tim takes lead, and he was doing that Jaw Harp sound in this..he is the newest member. In older videos you will see Chris Rupp (usually wears a cowboy hat) and he and Adam Rupp co-founded the group in college.
Love your reaction... Tim Foust (the bass) had a stupid range that no one person on this earth should possess and he does it with ease and sooo smooth... I would recommend his cover of "I can't help falling in love with you"... it's so smooth and effortless and it's just so pure and beautiful
The most beautiful song of harmonies for a singer to listen to in order to learn more about Home Free's talent would be the cover of "Helplessly Hoping" by Crosby, Stills and Nash. So beautiful it will want to make you cry.

Misty mountains Peter Hollens feat Tim Foust (bass in Home Free) also a good intro to Peter hollens. He layers himself, so all the voices in that song were just those two. The highs and lows in that piece are amazing.

This was a very good song to start with. I'd definitely recommend the cover they did of American Pie with Don McLean. That one really showcases each of their voices since they each get a verse.

Great reaction. This group gained the bulk of their current fame on a, sadly short lived, tv acapella contest show called The Sing Off. (Definitely jump down that rabbit hole if you get time.) They won the year after Pentatonix (I am shocked there is no PTX in your catalog yet btw.) I believe it was 2012.
I just recently saw them perform live and they did this song. It sounded awesome.
There version of How Great Thou Art is amazing. The composition is unbelievable, best I’ve ever heard.
15 years ago HomeFree sang at a Ranch Party in Okla. They sang several gospel songs that had many people turning their lives to Christ. Amazing gift for us all.
I want to say that Home Free and VoicePlay competed in the same season of Sing Off with Home Free winning that season. I believe voice play was eliminated mid season like week 5ish.

Adam Rupp, the beat boxer (the guy making the harmonica sounds) is a two time World Champion, beat boxer. He is a cut above most others.
Where can I find evidence of these championships? I've searched and always get to a dead end.
Adam has never competed internationally, so this is false information. He has won two local sweepstakes in Midwest more than a decade ago.
He has said that he is not interested in competing and that he prefers musicianship over gimmicks.

Adam Rupp is, for me the best beatboxer in acapella. His snare sound and rim shots are so crisp.

SO happy you found Home Free. I have been to 6 of their concerts and I have tickets for a December concert. Tim Foust hits bass notes, at concerts, that vibrate your body and your chair. Live performances are a whole body experience that I have never had at any other groups concert. Their concerts are always less expensive too.

So Home Free basically take turns in the spotlight. Their videos will very heavily feature one member for a couple videos than they switch who that is. If you want a REALLY good overview of each member, you should check out the 50th anniversary version of American Pie by Don Mclean and Home Free. They basically each get a verse.

The sounds from the one with the hands are coming most likely from a "turkey call" Its a small reed that goes under the tongue and can make the sounds, but the echoes and vibrations are done with the hands. It's a very distinct talent with the way he's playing it. I've never been able to use them, but i know people that can use them while also singing as well.
I know this was years ago but did you notice after the bass guy sings his part and they all chime in, he goes an octive lower.
It is amazing. He sings really deep already, and then dives down into the grave for that bit!

This was exciting to see show up in my recommended. I love these guys.
One of the great things about Home Free is that there isn’t a “lead” singer. When they start working on a song, they pick the person who fits it the best. Sometimes it’s Austin (the first tenor) sometimes it’s Rob (second singer), sometimes it’s Chance (the one you see last), and even Tim (the bass) takes the lead in some songs. I forgot Adam Rupp (vocal percussionist) has a beautiful tenor voice, but he prefers to stay in the background.
Home Free is at the top of their game.

You missed that Chance doing overtone singing with his jaw harp effect. I'm also unsure if the crackling vintage recording effect at the beginning and end were voice-produced sounds, but I suspect they may have been.
Rob is the bearded high tenor, Austin, tenor, has the red hair & brown hat, Tim is their bass, Adam is their beatboxer/harmonica (who does sometimes occasionally sing), and Chance is their baritone/second bass. Adam is the primary rhythm section, with backup from Tim & Chance. Fantastically talented guys.

You don't get a chance to her Chance much in "Man of Constant Sorrow", but you can hear him on many other covers like "Helplessly Hoping", "Fulsom Prison Blues", "Blue Ain't Your Color", "Born in the USA", and "Sea Shanty Medley". Chance is a great baritone and covers the bass when Tim (bass) takes the lead. To hear Adam Rupp, the beatboxer sing, check out "How Great Thou Art". He seldom sings, but he does there. Home Free is just a great group. Home Free fans call themselves Home Fries and they span all ages, ethnic groups, religions, etc. Home Free can do just about any genre of music from country to rock to ballads. I keep asking them for Mozart. They haven't done it yet, but I keep hoping. Personally, I think they'd kill it.

I really enjoyed your reaction. Other people have answered the questions you asked in the video. My favorite song they sing is Auld Lang Syne, because it’s an incredibly difficult arrangement, of a common song, that they make seem easy and simple. To me that may be the most perfect thing any artist can do, make something mind boggling difficult seem simple… like a perfect circle.

Home Free is the real deal. They won the NBC show the Sing Off in 2013 a year after Pentatonix won. They are country but also sing all genres of music. Known for great harmonies. Austin Brown high tenor (lead here), Rob Lundquist tenor (glasses), Tim Foust bass, (long hair), Adam Chance (known as “Chance”) baritone/bass. He was doing the mouth harp sound at the beginning and end of the song, Adam Rupp, amazing beatboxer. He does drums, harmonica, bugs, all kinds of sounds. They can be serious or silly. They are all college educated, some in vocal music. Austin the lead in this song is their high tenor, his college major was Musical Theater. And Rob the second tenor was a Vocal Music major. Their beatnoxer, Adam Rupp has a college degree in Trumpet performance and has a beautiful voice but prefers not to sing much. He will do harmonies with the other guys but never takes a lead vocal.
