Welcome! Today I am tackling a fun woodworking project with the disclaimer: I am not a professional! 😆 I just like trying to make things myself! I wanted to show you all how I made my other garden tuteur that I think turned out pretty nice! This time, I am making one for my parents garden. I hope they like it (and that they don’t look too closely at the mistakes!) 😆 Enjoy!

----M A T E R I A L S N E E D E D----
purchased finial
square tip piece to put the finial on
-get a 2x6 and cut to 5.5”
7 pieces of 2” x 2” x 8’
screws
wood glue
----C U T L I S T----
For Legs:
-take 4 of the 8’ 2x2’s and cut each off at 1 foot to make all 4 7’ long
-set the saw for 7 degree bevel and 7 degree miter
-one at a time, cut one end of each leg, then without moving it other than sliding, trim the other end so both cut ends are parallel
For Cross Members:
-take the remaining 8’ 2x2s
-cut with cut ends mirroring each other but cutting, rolling 180 degrees, slide then cut left end so cut ends are opposite
-all measurements are the longest sides
cut 4 of each measurement (will need 3 2x2’s total)
measurement 1: 12”
measurement 2: 18”
measurement 3: 22”
For Face Plate:
-cut fence piece or 2x6 to be 5.5” square
----A S S E M B L Y D I R E C T I O N S----
Use wood glue then brad nailer to secure cross members together to form 3 squares
Mark the square face plate piece with a cross hair so you have four quadrants. Now draw 2 additional lines, 1 1/2″ on either side of each vertical and horizontal line.
Drill a pilot hole just inside each corner of the square that has formed from the lines and also a hole directly in the center for the finial
Attach the upper end of each leg with a screw. Fitting them into the drawn squares and turning them until each angle is lined up perfectly level on the square piece and the floor
Now, one by one, slide each frame down over the “teepee” frame you have created, starting by aligning the largest frame. Screw into place by first making a pilot hole, then screwing in screw.
Continue adding the other three frames, largest to the smallest. Use the level to keep everything level and screw each frame into place as you go.
Screw in finial on top and you are done!

What a beautiful obelisk!!! I could not have made all those cuts. What a great talent you have! Can’t wait to see it in your parents garden! Thanks for sharing ❣️
Great job Janey!! You’re parents should be proud! Such a thoughtful gift!
Loved this thank you! Your garage was so beautifully organized and labeled too. Super impressive ! Hope you show us the stained tuteur in its new home!
I never would have thought about doing a 7° bevel, very smart! Do you have any before pictures of when you just bought your house? It would be so fun to see a before and after video. I love your monthly garden tours and I feel like if you did a video with pictures of when you first bought the house plus with after shots of what it looks like now, it would really show how much you have accomplished!
You are so multi-talented! The Tutor turned out beautiful and your parents will be thrilled! I purchased one off of Wayfair that I had to put together. Even with pre drilled holes, it took me at least 4 try’s before I figured out how it went together and all Sunday afternoon!
Haha I know what thats like! That is me with every single ikea piece Ive ever purchased! Thanks for watching Jo! Have a wonderful weekend!
Looks great ! I was obelisk obsessed this year and made myself one . Currently has Hyacinth bean vine growing up it . 🌻
Thank you! I’m definitely going to make a couple of these for my garden for some height and interest while plants are growing in. This is brilliant!
It turned out so amazing! Your parents will love it! I hope you show the final product stained and all. Thank you for sharing,
Great job Janey! You are so incredibly talented. Your Mom is going to love it.🙂
Love it! I want to make one now that I have a tutorial from a honest perspective! Hugs and love from Texas!
I was excited to see this video. I looked back in your old videos to see if you had a tutorial on the one you made. Looks like I will be purchasing some wood this weekend. PS you will love that nail gun. My daughter bought me the same one for Christmas a few years ago!
I love this and so I made one today! It came out great but not perfect! I did the cheap version! Thank you so much! Mine could have never be video’d m it was pretty tricky but I powered through lol! You actually made it look easy! Thank you for this though!
What a wonderful gift! I’d like to see you do more diy projects like this!
Thanks for sharing this tutorial! I've seen one other gardener make these. I'm hoping to make one now that I know they aren't as difficult as they seem and aren't crazy expensive!
Random question, but I was admiring your gladiolus and wondered if you stake yours and what you use or if you plant them a particular way so they don't flop? Thanks!
Yay you should definitely try it Dawn! Its really not too bad! I don't stake my glads but I should!! The pink ones that I got from dollar store dont flop but I just planting some purple ones and they are flopping all over the place!!
You are brilliant! Thank you for sharing the directions & showing us how you built it. Your mom & dad are real proud of their daughter & will think of you every time they look at it in the garden.
Wow , it looks good . I just know I wouldn’t be able to make one, I just don’t have that good of a skill . I do like them though. Your mom is going to love it 💕
😱😱 beautiful 👏👏👏👏♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ I will take 2 please 😂😂 I love these !! I yelled “honey quick come here Janey and I have a project for you to do” 🤭🤭🤭 😂😂😂 you did an awesome job and so sweet for you to make that for your Mom♥️ have a wonderful day friend 😘😘
Haha thank you Pamela!! You tell your hubby I said pretty please make one for Pamela! 😆😘
Great job. Enjoyed the video 🌼🌼🌼
Great job-it's beautiful! My husband made me one years ago from the same tutorial. I need two more!
Oh how nice!! I love them! I think they are such a great addition to the garden!
A GREAT job you did, your mother will be proud. You have even inspired me to do one. I had sticker shock when I saw ones price not long ago. Thanks for the supplies list and the web site to go to, but I think yours will do to watch how. I'm very much a beginner in this dept. and more of a helper then a do-er. Stay Save and I know your mother will like it and be very proud of your gift to her.
Thank you so much Ginger! You should definitely do it!! Once your break it down its really not too hard! Good luck my friend and thank you for being so kind! 💗
This is beautiful!!!! I’m going to try and talk Gary in to making a. Couple of these for our yard.
This is my plan. To make about 3 or 4…I’ll try mitered and butt joints. On Etsy they where $310. To $429. Good job
So cute! Now I want to make one, or three! Just curious, why didn’t you have the square pieces that went around evenly spaced from one another? Is that a design or structural thing to do? Also, I’m fairly new to your channel, I love the layout of your front and back gardens…I love the pergola and that cross hatch trellis looking plant growing up the wall!!! What is growing on it and how is it all secured?
What are the measurements for the small squares? I understand they're cut at a 45゚ angle but each square is slightly larger than the other. so what would those measurements be? Thank you in advance
You did a great job! You seem very comfortable using tools. Did you learn on your own?
+
How did you anchor it into the ground?
Love it ...thanks.
Muy bonito
This was so good!!! Definitely saving this video to watch again when I make my own 👌🫶
Build them and they will buy. I would. I can't find them.
Amazing 🤩 I love obelisk in my garden…maybe you can have your own business Janey and we can order from you, just kidding!!!
Haha now thats an idea for a side hustle!! 😉 Thanks Barbara!
I love this episode! Makes me want to create one some day!
Kudos to you!!! I would never be able to make this though I would love to add one or two in my garden. You are a genious. It looks amazing!!! 😜❤️🌹
Thank you so much Maricela!! You should try it, if I can do it you can too! 💪🏼
Hi Janey, really enjoyed your video and Nadj & I are going to attempt to make some obelisks later in the year. Best Wishes, Paul & Nadj.
Yay good luck with them Paul! Thanks for watching!
Really enjoyed this! I am finding I love tools and gadgets. You did a great job and I know it will look beautiful in your parents garden. They will be thrilled.
Thanks so much! I really like tools too, its fun to see what you can make with them!
What a great job, lucky parents! I watch a lady in Florida that does a lot of diy stuff I think it’s Design to the Nines. You’d like her I think. I only dream of tools.
Ooh thanks Debra! I'll look her up!
Beautiful, Janey! You are so talented. It’s perfect and will look lovely in your parent’s garden. Thank you. 🌷M
Thank you for saying that!
Great job! Looks fantastic. Thanks for sharing all of the information about the cuts and the wood you purchased. Very much appreciated!
You are quite good at this. Very nice
I love this and have been wanting to build one. Thank you for this little tutorial! Great job!
Thanks Pat! You definitely should try it! I love them in the garden!
So beautiful Janey! Your a Rockstar!! 💪 your parents will love it!!
Thank you so much Steph!! Have a great day my friend!
Very inspiring and fun project! You are awesome and your garden rocks!
I love the tuteur BUT I don't understand why and where you need the 7 degree bevel - could you expand on that? Thanks
Hi Patricia! It allows the cross members to sit flat against the legs. Otherwise their would be a gap! Hope that makes sense!
Wow… how Beautiful!!! I love it … you did such a great job looks amazing!!! 🌺🌸💚🤍🪴🌿🌳🍀
I've been wanting a large obelisk in my yard but couldn't justify the cost, now I can make one . . .YEA!!
Thanks SO much for walking us through the construction process.
OMGOSH it is so Gorgeous!!!! I love learning how to do this! Thank you!!☺
great channel, have fun
BRAVO, you did a fabulous job! You mom is going to be ecstatic and so proud of you, Janey! I'd love to see her face when you give it to her! 👏👏💖💖
Janey, this is lovely! I have a collection of metal obelisks in various sizes/shapes, and have already sent this vid to my husband with my wish list. Many thanks for posting, appreciate your generosity!
You did a beautiful job! 🎉🎉🎉
That looks better than any store bought tuteur, and a fraction of the cost. Love the finial. Love from sunny Sydney, Australia.
7 degree bevel 7 degree miter is best
I think you can have a side business. I would buy it from you in a second.
Haha thats a thought! 😉 Thanks Lupe! 💗
Nice, job! Please share your mom's reaction.
Thank you so much Arelette! Will do! 💗
Great job! Can’t wait to see it in your parents garden! Is this one taller than the one on your garden?
Yes I think it is!! I think the other one I widened the legs so the base is wider and the whole thing is shorter
Up there with Potager vid Janey !! C'mon let's go!! Awesome job and gift !! And great explanation!!
Awesomeness 👍💪🌱
Cheers J&C

🧡🖤🧡🖤 Thanks for watching!
Great sharing and giving my support.
Love this video!!
great job janey
It looks great. I have been working with wood since I was a little Tom boy. One of my Grandpas was a cabinet maker and the other carved wood with a pocket knife making picture frames with beautiful leaves. It is amazing what you can make with scraps. My Mom and I bought one toy at a time and finally have a 20ft by 30 ft wood working shop. Most of my first diys started with a drill with a cord(I am giving away my age here) and circular saw. Both of your projects turned out fabulous. I hope your day is fun filled.
Oh how cool Tammy! That is so amazing you are a rockstar! I would love to build my shop out little by little as well. I think it would be a fun hobby to do in the winter when I can't garden!
Okay, time for a sliding miter saw 😂
No kidding!! Surprisingly this was the first time I actually needed the sliding part!
I mean…WOW!!! That’s complicated! Yes, you made it look easy but I know it’s not! I’m soooo impressed. And so proud of you!😘
Thank you so much Judy! 😆😘
Very well done.
Thank you!
Well done my friend.love that tuteur.good job.
Thank you so much Gracie!!

About 25 years ago, my husband and I made a tutuer just like that for my mother in law for her birthday. We were so excited to give it to her and when we presented it to her she made a face and said "what is it?" She didn't like it so we brought it home and I'm still enjoying it! She was so rude about it.
OMG Lu!! That is such a MIL thing to do 😆 Well, I'm really glad you got to enjoy it!! Silver lining! haha!
omg you’re so handy!! I go nowhere near a drill 🤣 My husband loves woodworking, so maybe he can make me something similar because it looks so good!!😁😍
Haha thanks! I'm not that handy, just not afraid to make a mistake! I hope your husband makes you one! 🤞🏼😘
Nice work👏
Also I can’t wait to see it stained, hopefully in another video of your mom’s garden!! 🤞🏼🤞🏼😁
Absolutely!! 💗
That turned out great! What a beautiful addition to a garden. I have an 8ft blue windmill in my backyard. I love it! It adds so much color and interest. Fun video, thanks!!
Oh how amazing Lorri! I bet that windmill is just a centerpiece! Thanks so much for watching!
Bravo 👏 👏 👏 Janney. Thank you for sharing as always. Love, love your videos.
Thank you so much my friend! 😘
Don’t do yourself down Janey! I loved it and if I lived close, I’d pay you to build me one. It’s lovely and your mom will be delighted.
Thank you so much for saying that Sue! You are so sweet! 😆
Nice job - looks great & I'm sure you're mom will love it!
Thank you so much Cyndie!
