I understand your mom dealing with hot temps and her plants. I live 119 miles southwest of San Antonio Texas. I’m 74 and tend my plants myself. Two weeks ago it was 120 degrees in shade. My yard is on irrigation but my plants in pots were needing to be watered every day and a few twice a day. The temps have been consistently 106 and up. It’s frustrating to have my plants suffering. Thumbs up to your mom.

Hi Janey, as you mentioned this is great inspiration for hot dry gardens. Although some of us may not be in your gardening zone, as climate change is here we have to take note and be smarter on what we place in our gardens moving forward. On another note I cannot believe how calm your mother appears talking about losing her first home to fire and another fire going through her property. Myoporum will do amazing there. I have it surrounding my pool. It gets hot sun all day and it is happy as can be. Pollinators love it! P.s. you can come dig some out of my yard any time (I'm in Yolo county). It propogates very well

Thanks for the garden tour and naming all the plants 💕👏🙆♀️🌿. I grow plants and flowers too because I remember my mom in her garden of roses and pansies. My aunt also used to have a huge vegtable garden. They inspired me to 💖 gardening as much as you both do now! 🦋🌹

Where do you buy your plants ? Are they local? I live just north of Redding my butterfly bush and Lantana didn't make it , too hot I think

During rain showers, bees will line up on my little gem magnolia and use the flowers as water slides! Then they fly up and around and get in line again! Such a sight to see! I love tour mom’s garden. What great tough plants that are also beautiful!
Mom's property is beautiful! Definitely beautiful outdoor decoration. That pool is enchanting, with and without frogs😄 So much effort in planting flowers, vegetables. But that enjoyment when you sit on the porch by the pool, TV, view of the hills, the peace it gives at the end of the day .. that's the goal of life, to enjoy! Bravo👌

What are those green grasses before the gomphrena and in front of the butterfly bushes? I understand about extreme winds. Here in Inland Empire in November 2021 the winds were extreme enough to rip off my corrugated metal patio roof and they were blown back over the house roof to the front yard and across the street into my neighbor's driveway and ended up in their backyard! God's protection on your home/property. That balloon flower (purple) and the latina look beautiful together (orange/blue purple). That mint julep lavender is stunning!!! Uuuuu...the black-eyed susans are too sweet. "Swoop of supertunia jazzberry does not disappoint! Lovely garden. Thank you for sharing with us.
You are the spitting image of your mom. Her garden is looking great. Am in zone 6 Pennsylvania and am battling deer always, but also a large increase in rabbits this season.
Beautiful garden🌱 home and pool! Love the greenhouse and that your husband made the drying table. So sweet. Linning the planting hole with cloth chicken wire may deter voles/moles.🐾 Was the " Artist Blue Floss flower" grown from seed? I saw the variegated lavender sold at Filoli. Striking plant. Your mom's garden is WONDERFUL! I am definitely going to try pole beans with my tomatoes next year. I find it interesting that your mom and I can grow some of the same plants, lantana, crape myrtle being two. I live on the southeastern NC coast, zone 8a. My high today will be 88 degrees, but the humidity is 89%, enough to make my hair curl.

Wow I just can’t relate to such a dry climate 😮I live on the lakeshore in West Michigan an to live threw a huge fire is mind blowing. We here remove an control most our under growth so we just don’t get as many fires . Your mom an you are just so adorable thank her for sharing ❤
Love! My whole front yard is myoporum. We are in the Central Valley and the bees love it, and in three years it’s has completely taken over.
Snails and slugs annoyed me enough here...losing a whole plant...that bigger already...i might do what ur mother done too

How about using dichondra silver falls as a ground cover. It takes the heat the full intense sun and is drought tolerant

I loved today's video, your mom's garden is beautiful! My parents live in Redding too (I'm in Brentwood) and their house and property look very similar to your parents, I wonder if they're close. Definitely take the spider plant with you when you move. My grandpa grew cannas and had given me one, then when he passed away last year I got a couple more. They are some of the most special plants in my entire garden ♥

that garden is gorgeous. let her know that lady banks rose is a rambler. mine was about 20 ft wide and tall and started swallowing a tree when i took it out.
Such a wonderful tour! The property has transformed quite a bit from the last time you did a tour. So many great ideas! I will have to check out that greenhouse, although I'm in New England and a wood greenhouse may not last as long as in California. Where did your mom find the garden trellis at 35:19? Did you Dad make that too? I love, love the raised garden beds. Wow, those are made to last! I'd love to do cedar beds, but it would cost a small fortune! Totally enjoyed this video! Thank you!

Salvia is struggling but it looks like something is eating it. (A bug of some sort).
