Oh good. So glad you liked it. They are really nice and add so much interest to the garden. I planted morning glories last year so I might try something different like sweet peas. Love vertical gardening. Thanks for watching and your support.
Beautiful job! Thank you for posting at the end of the video all the dimensions and the list. So helpful! I also love the topper you created with the square topper and the wooden ball. They're a perfect combination!
Thank you. I really appreciated your video. This build is one I can do with the grands. They can help with nearly every aspect of the build, including the paint. I like the idea of painting prior to assembly on this - easier and simpler and it will reduce, I think, wood rot at the joints. A squirt of caulk on the joint during assembly might help as well. This style allows for easy replacement of damaged or deteriorated members fairly easily. And, as the ends rot, the unit can easily be shortened a couple of inches and continue in service to the garden. Thanks again for the video.
Thanks so much Neil. That was my goal, build something easy with minimal tools but hold up to the weather. These are doing great this winter. Brings lots of interest to the garden. I love that you’re sharing this project with the grandchildren. Creating wonderful memories and teaching them a nice skill. Happy building and thanks for watching.

Thank you, (and Chester) for showing us a well thought out process to build these Obelisk’s for your yard. Love the outdoor dining table being used as a building platform for your project.
Thanks for making this project understandable and doable! I have looked up a couple of videos about this made by professionals and felt discouraged about trying it myself, now I can’t wait to get started!
Hello, Suzy I am back here again on my Sunday day off. I wrote all down what I need to buy on the A4 paper. This summer I need to buy good impact screw driver machine as I always end up my palm gets a lots blisters using manual screw driver. I have checked the price of Makita one in UK online, what a expensive machine I was shocked. Women come to buy expensive handbag to our shop but I don’t want any of those, I want a good DIY machine❣️ My staff discount doesn’t help my tools at all. hahaha. Love from Japanese lady from UK. Thanks for the video again. I wish I could give my thumbs up again and again. 🌹🌹🌹 Best Wishes.
Good for you on wanting to invest in some tools. I know the prices can sometimes be a lot. I usually research what I want to buy, and then wait patiently for a sale. I have purchased all my tools this way. Also, a tip on purchasing tools, try and buy all the same brand (manufacturer) that way you can use the batteries from one tool on another. Replacement batteries sometimes cost almost as much as the tool itself. Try and get a good battery that lasts a long time and doesn't take too long to charge. It feels great to be independent and create or build things with your own hands. I love hand bags too but you can't build a nice obelisk with one ha ha. Good luck on finding a good drill. Thanks for the kind words
@suzy rebelo Dear Suzy, thanks a lots for your great advise. Yes, I would love to take your kind advise as batteries can be very expensive. I will ask ex my next door who is brick layer and he said he can take me to trading shop so I can get a little cheaper with him and his member card. Last night Oberisk timbers I looked at on line become almost 100 pound, that’s a lots. I don’t have a car and even so 8foot long timber I can’t ride on a taxi either, hahaha. So I asked him some favor today when he brought some free bricks where he has been knocking down the garage someones house. I asked him can I have second hand bricks to my path to rose pagora. Then he said he can even give me some sand to fill in between the bricks. So I am going to give some my Hosta plants, Passion flower, etc. Thanks again Suzy. I love your Oberisk. 💖 🌹 You take care and have a good summer.
Oh thanks! Yes, I try to simplify patterns and processes. It may not be what a professional would do but it works great for me. By the way, they are very sturdy and held up beautifully this winter. Thanks for watching
Great job Suzy they look fabulous. You must feel really proud of yourself for making these, I've made raised beds before but think I will have to have a go at making these as well, especially as you have provided written instructions. Thank you
Thank you. I am so pleased with the results. I love the raised beds idea that’s going into the memory bank. Thanks for your support. Happy woodworking!
That’s funny. It was my first time making these. It took longer to figure out how to make them , than actually putting it together. You might be surprised at how well you do. 🔨
You did a wonderful job and I think you did a very professional looking job. Chester is so cute and I'll bet he is a lot of company to you and his ghost friends.........lol.
Thank you. Chester is a very loyal friend. I love him to pieces. I thought I heard him crying maybe it was a ghost ha ha I do live in a very old house built in 1860 so you never know
It REALLY looks great ! You SHOULD congratulate yourself 😄 you did an amazing job! I been watching videos on how to build one, many too complicated..by far your Obelisk is the best looking at easy to make Thank you!
I just wanted to say thank you for this video and posting the instructions for all of us to use. Your jigs for this are perfect and make the job a lot easier, I'm currently making jigs for 6ft, 4ft and 2ft just to see what I like best. Thanks Again for this, it's very kind of you to post the instructions.
I'm so glad you found it useful Kevin. It's great to have a project you can complete and enjoy in a short period of time. They've stood up to winter really well too. Thanks for watching!
Hello! I am wondering how to reduce cuts, etc. to make a shorter trellis. Can you please advise your dimensions for the smaller sizes? This is a beautiful trellis and looks stunning! I would like to limit the height to 6 feet for my purposes. Also, it would make great gifts as well, especially at shorter sizes. Thanks for a thorough tutorial and a beautiful end product! I will also be checking out your other videos as I love woodworking, too!
Hi there. It’s very easy to reduce it to 6’. Just change out the 2x2 ‘s from (8’ lengths) to 2x2 x 6’ length. It reduces the height but everything else stays the same. I was originally going to make them 6’ tall but decided on 8’ feet because I liked the scale. These would make amazing gifts! Happy woodworking.
I should add. You’re going to make a 6 foot triangle instead of 8’ triangle. The bottom width of the triangle is the same measurement. The rails going horizontally, start at bottom like I did. Measure the first one to fit and cut the end off preserving the angle. Then use spacer to lay the next rail above the last rail, do the same thing , lay it across , draw angle at end , cut end, flip over rail over and lay the next rail so on. When you get to the last rail at the top, just place it where is looks pleasing to the eye. Evenly between the rail above and below. This will work fine and look like the one I made just shorter. Try to buy your 2x2 in exact length ie 6’. Makes for less cutting.
So glad you liked it. You can alter the pattern and customize its height and side trellis pattern. My girlfriend made hers 6 feet tall and it looked great too. Thanks for watching.
I’m sure yours turned out great too. There are a lot of videos out there but sometimes they make it too complicated with all the angles etc. Regardless, it a great sense of accomplishment when you can make something with your own hands. Thanks for watching.
Hello, how are you doing ? Thank you so much for showing this video, the way you teach is so well organized, explain things very much into details and demonstration with kind words. I am so happy to know that the bottom base holder templets square frame you made and let lose obelisk to be able to stand up itself without borrowing any other person which is ideal as I do alone, you are very smart and clever idea you show us. Also using guideline wood stick for cutting time. I am planning to make one for my roses and watched a couple of you tube but yours is so nicer and make me understand well also dark paint coloure easy to look at on screen here. I will watch your video few more times and get it into my head and go for it in July on my annual leave holiday but all depend on UK weather, hahaha. Thanks a lots again. You are using Famous Makita machine, they are good staff. 🌹🌹 Love from Japanese lady from UK. Best Wishes 🌸 Take care 🌸🌸
Ohhh. I’m so glad you’re going to try to make this. They are very sturdy and do very nicely in the winter. It’s great to have an extra pair of hands but even better if you can do it independently and at your own pace. I’m sure you will be successful and the roses will look beautiful. I just planted morning glories in mine. Thank you so much for the kind words and support. Happy building from the Portuguese lady in Canada.
