A short biographical song sketch of the history of the "Mama's and Papa's" as well as other musicians from the New York music scene in the early 60's. - Видеоклипы
Ma Ma Cass was a lady of class and was a very pretty very sweet gifted lady
Cass was all of those things and more but, if wishes could be granted, she would have woken up one morning with the figure of Michelle. Cass simply could not control her eating.
Oliver Hardy of Laurel and Hardy fame hated being the jolly fat man but, alas, could not put the fork down.
No amount of “Shallow Hal” psycho babble can alter the hard wired perceptions of physical beauty. To think otherwise is to indulge in cruel self-deception.
@@henrywarnell7694 there’s more than weight issues, it was drug use. I watched a documentary about this group.
She was a heroin addict.
This is some of the greatest music ever made, the way they harmonized together is amazing. 🙂
A song as fresh as yesterday. Thanks Mamas and Papas.
It really does pop !
Cass was always like the cool Aunt that everyone wishes they had..
Michelle Philips was the one I wish I had. 😂
Certainly.
I have a cool aunt. Shes not Cass of course but pretty cool. Cass is eternal and golden and a truly great spirit. Love her dearly.
And Michelle was the girlfriend everyone wish they had
Being on heroin is not cool
I think this is their best. The harmonies are incredible.
Fantastic song and what a little treat to those who love the Mamas and the Papas❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
What a fun song. Love all the references to some of the greats from back in the Laurel Canyon days. And Michelle Phillips was SUCH a babe!
What an incredibly great group and what clever, witty intricate lyrics.
For their time...and even now...these folks were awesome.
Freaking unreal talent unreal incredible talent the whole group their voices were incredible together I love this group they were the best when they were on their game back in the day dude could write hit songs in a matter of a night or a day wow such talent makes me crazy.
I remember seeing them at Toronto New City Hall Square. 1967. Throwing brown acid into. The audience.
@@dukeofthedance8062 ☹️ Think during that time he was heavily into heroin. Otherwise, don't believe it would have happened...giving him the benefit of the doubt.
@@dukeofthedance8062 Um horror
Plays fun with my ears, like a Merry-Go-Round.
Cool fact: They actually sang that last lyric ("And California Dreamin' is becomin' a reality") twice. During post-production and later releases, the repeated lyric was muted out, so you only heard the instruments. That's why you hear the "eee" near the end. I think they were supposed to repeat it two or three times and it would be faded in post, but someone slipped and muted it out, resulting in the version heard here and elsewhere.
PatrickRsGhost awe thanx for the fun fact!! I love interesting facts about songs
Thanx for sharing!!!’ 😊
A lot of bands could learn a thing or two about making music like this band they were quite simply sensational
Song writers of that era all seemed to have a working relationship with music theory. Great songwriting coming out of Southern California, and this song shows the comraderie of the time and place.
These photos are incredible. What a time in history. I just missed it being born in '68. Two of my sisters were 14+15 . I grew up with the best music from around the globe
What clever lyrics . John Phillips was a genius song writer just what we have been missing for the last 25 years .
I like the references to John Sebastian and The Lovin' Spoonful, also members of The Byrds.
My all time favorite Folk rock ,psychedelic pop, sunshine pop group!
2019 and enjoying more than ever !!!! Thank you Mamas and Papas .
One of those songs I can't get tired of.
Good old American hippie music,wonderful.
I rock this song today. Its timeless. Jus like up on cripple creek by the band. Epic.
Probably my favorite song by them.
The songs about how they became the mamas and the papa's, so cool
❤
ABSOLUTELY love this song!!
The references in this song are cool 😎
The late Great Cass, God has the Best.......mamas ans papas, so fortunate to have had her and you all, awesome talant, all of you, thank you and peace.
Doc, I know you were *trying* to be funny, but that ham sandwich was never touched.
It's impossible to single out any member of the group . As with the Beatles , it's the group chemistry.
Michelle Phillips and Cass did great harmony. Denny is the voice
Just my two cents. I just read this comment as well as others touting this voice or that voice. What made them special was their magical harmonies (thank you John), obviously song writing like Monday Monday, California Dreaming, this song and many more , yes outstanding voices ( Cass and Denny’s voice stood out when they took the lead) Most important…their chemistry for the 3 short years they were on top. For a while they were best friends and loved each other. Drugs and betrayal took its toll.
Michelle was the pretty one but Cass was the better singer
Still one of the top ten rock song recordings of all-time;.
Says no sane person.
Impressively arranged and orchestrated, catchy and well written tune
@@sludge4125 maybe top 100. i mean there are quite a few Beatles songs i put ahead of this as well as love is blue the instrumental with that incredible harpsichord riff
Always loved this song.
RIP Love for Mama Cass ❣❣
One of the greatest talented groups of our time.Amazing, lyrics vocal arrangements
God, I had such a crush on Michelle Phillips - I'm 67 now, where did my life go?
I'm 55 and wonder where mine went too Vince.
Vince, if you have Netflix, punch up Echo in the Canyon. It'll tell you how they all fared.
vince I'm 59 and she was my 1st crush such a natural beauty. fun times for sure
Yeah, Denny had a crush on her too. LOL
me and millions other guys have same thoughts about Michelle, they were a great group
Oh my goodness! what a song and those harmonies!
Still a classic in my mind today ❤
This particular song is full of good and amazing vibes! Music brings good souls together!
Great song of the times. I had almost forgotten it, heard it on the radio again and came here. Love the Mamas and Papas!
So much vocal talent in one band. Sadly only Michelle is still with us. Such great memories from a simpler time.
What shift of a voice songs to enjoy dancing to
Being a black man , i come from STAX & MOTOWN , but goddammit I love this song & Michelle Phillips.
I feel you Brother!!!
I'm a white man, but Stax and Motown 4-EVAH!
Dig the flute solo! The lyrics are fantastic, singing heavenly, Just an effortless classic.
Well, here's one white boy that says "Stax and Motown 4EVER!", though both are now defunct.
Michelle was pretty, but Cass, Cass MADE this band. Denny could sing, the others could write, but the sound was Cass all the way.
Thank you. My favorite Mamas & Papas song and you did a real nice job with the photos.
a classic of the times
Amazing music and history .I wish I could have experienced that decade.
always a great song -- captures some of the history
So true how art in this case Pop Music can says so much about the times people lived through ….
2:26 Cass is absolutely GORGEOUS!
Mamas & The Papas is so underrated. Love them.
I know right, they are only known for California Dreaming which isn't even their best song.
There's also Monday Monday
Brilliant lyrics brilliant tune nuff said .
GREAT JOB EVEN SHOWS THE PEOPLE THEY ARE SINGING ABOUT !!!!!! :>)
That's a SONG!!!!! Makes me wish it was the '60s and I was in the coffeehouse with John Sebastian.
Great. Great story telling. Great rock history. Damn could we say hit like this today. Absolutely. X Johnny LP
I loved Mama Cass!!!! RIP Cass>>>>>>>>>
Obviously great song and all that but many props for the matching photos! Excellent job at capturing that scene at that particular time. Some of those shots were particularly beautiful so again, awesome job. (Lyrics too of course)
One of the great rock songs of all-time.
nobodyaskedbut hardly rock! Easy listening Mug
They consider their style folk rock. Which I didn't know was a thing, but it is, and I love it. 😁
History in one song
Fantastic....the Mamas & Papas beginning's summed up in a great song....love all the photos of the other musicians mentioned too !! Thanks so much !! 👍 💜 💜 💜
I still have their record. The one where all of them are in the bath tub. Yes, my record player still works. Bought it back in 1986 when I graduated from H.S.
The 1960s - Great music and the best of times.
after all these years I finally understand this song. thanks to you Historicus Joe
This song shows a lot of rock and roll history...
Brilliant song about the 60s rock rollers were getting higher
A history song that is history
kudos for showing some flattering photos of cass
Great Song!
My daughter is ten and loves this song 💕
The first line is "to leave the folk music behind", not "the poor music".
Correct
folk music made you poor.
Yes, and the missing line at 3:41 is "---y", the leftover vestige of the refrain "becomin' a reality" that was remastered out of the mix but they brought the pot back up too soon and you can hear the end of the word still there.
lololol
Thank you. I hate when they get the lyrics wrong. Research, then if it doesn't make sense, research more.
I grew up with this bunch. The Mamas and the Papas, Joni Mitchell, Harry Nilsson and Billy Joel are the only ones I wish to remember
2019 and gorgeous as always even though I wasn't born til 1966.
Eugene Malush I was born in 67!!!
Awesome job with the pictures matching the lyrics-I enjoyed this video immensely! Bravo.
In my opinion on second to "Twelve Thirty" as their greatest single ! God bless you Naomi Cohen !
@Beumadine Sweevy Agree... never heard 12.30 ever on radio anywhere. Only hear the big 3 Cali dreaming, monday monday and this.
superb
My favorite song by The Mama's and Papa's....Awesome
Classic luv it
I'm a very simple fellow but I know great music when I hear 👂 it
Best very best group of their era no ifs ands or buts really freakin incredible talent that’s all there is to it best music ever written and they sounded incredible.
*"The first time all four members of the Mamas & the Papas took acid, they decided to take a trip. According to the story, one of them closed their eyes, pointed to a map, and their finger landed on the Virgin Islands. Along with a group of about 15 people including five-year-old Mackenzie, they camped on the beach, drank rum from halved coconuts, and lived off of soon-to-be-maxed-out credit cards. Cass Elliot found a waitressing job near their camp in order to join them and brought a quart of liquid LSD along as a gift. After about a month, the group decided to go to California, obtained a car, and made their way there. The song "Creeque Alley" was written about this drug-filled beach vacation."*
Poor Mackenzie. Child neglect, best case scenario here.
I don't know about the LSD, but Creque (pronounced Kree-Key) Alley is a real place in St. Thomas in the USVI. Henry Creque was the man that found the treasure on Treasure Island (Norman is it's real name) one of only two legitimate X marks the spot pirate treasures ever found in the World and what Stevenson based his book on. There is even a Dead Chest that looks like a bloated dead man floating in the water off Peter Island that the song "Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum" is based on, with Blackbeard having been prominently in the area. While growing up on St. Thomas, my father's best friend was (my dad is dead now) a West Indian descendant of Henry, so I know some lore about it and can tell you all kinds of old sailor's tales about the area.
@@johnphantom LSD was the real treasure.
I love this song.
Did four people EVER sound so good?
Yes. Little Big Town. The Beatles. But these four were indeed great.
ABBA?
CSNY, too
George Paul John Ringo called
Hold our beer mate
They were going nowhere until Cass. Then their music ROCKED.
Damn the 1960's looks like it was a hell of fun. I was born in 1969. I had my best years in the 1980's which were also a hell of fun!!!
I love this song so much history is in it and so many famous people are mentioned. Music oh yes the music is good
Love this tune.
pure class
Such a history lesson
love the reference to California dream'in
Love MaMa Cass her singing was awesome
Great job, I actually understood the song and what it was about, thank you
Again ..thank you Mama for turning me onto so many genres and generations of music!! I love you◇ StephopalOpal aka Big Mama New Orleans Louisiana..Super Respect for sharing !!
I don't know why, and I may be off base here, but I heard this song a lot at a place I used to work. It came on the radio about mid-afternoon, which coincided with an old diesel switcher pulling yet another cut of freight cars clumping along the tracks out behind us. Funny, it even kept rhythm with the last of the song. Now when I hear this tune, I think of that poky ol' train clumping along the tracks to the beat. And that mouth harp (harmonica) in the background just sets the mood.
Great song...
16 when tis came out still love them
Great song. Sadly I couldnt find any recording of this song that includes the last lines repeated twice as I listened when younger.
Loved it....a lot....
wauw, am 41 but this is my childhood memories 60s wsf ab
What a cool song.!
Summer of love 1967 time machine
Great song from cass love one of the best harmonising groups ever love them and the beegees
Great song,,group too.
Good harmony together. Denny & Cass voices really stand out though. It’s a group that put out some good songs in a short period of time.If the love bug would’ve hit Denny & Michelle causing the turmoil who knows they could of kept going into the 70s.
One of their best songs!
I HAVE THE CD OF MAMA AND THE PAPAS. MY FAVORITE CD.
the voice of mama cass was everything...but michele..it was love for me, im not sure she knew...ha. magic happened when these met. timeless perfection.
Even though this has the pic of the single at the fade out, this is NOT the single version, which has horns and Denny singing an extra "becoming a reality" at the end.
