I love the sound of the 60s .it reminds me of how pure the world was compared to today. I loved the movie Once Upon A-Time In Hollywood. I was only a child in the 60s but I wished I was an adult. Cass had the purest, crystalline, most angelic voice I have ever heard. It's terribly sad that groups like this who give millions so much pleasure seem to eventually fall victim to personal and physical problems. They were a fond part of my formative years which will stay with me forever.

My favourite in the band was Cass Elliot. She seems like the most genuine as many others also has written in the comments. She seemed like a nice person, with the biggest heart. People we're very cruel. She had a great voice and a great look. She was one of a kind. I like her moves and her dance. Just look at "Dancing in the street"! Ok Boomer....(Just kidding). You guys really did live to see some amazing times and social changes that are still bearing fruit, even after all these years. And the music...holy hell, the music! Gen X here(1975), even from a very young age, California Dreamin' has been my favorite song. Up through the '80s and Metal, past the '90s and Grunge, I always come back to this song and this time. It's almost a spiritual thing for me at this point, in that it makes me miss a era that wasn't even alive to see.

Everytime i hear the Song California Dreaming I cry out loud as a over 50 year old man. They were the best band in these days-it was a gift. The Mamas and The Papas have made my childhood with other bands.
Always loved this group. Incomparable harmonies. “Go Where You Wanna Go” and “Twelve Thirty” have been shining examples of this, and they are among my favorites. 3 years together…and we still talk about their greatness more than a half century later. That’s saying something. They were, are, and remain the mid 60s California vibe personified.

I was born in 1968. I remember hearing the Mamas and the Papas on the radio as a kid quite often and I also remember watching Cass perform on several shows but one that sticks out in my mind was of her singing with John Denver. All I can say is WOW!! She had such power in her voice that you had to stop and listen. I think it is so sad that people judged her because of her weight. She was lovely. Her talent was amazing. I still love listening to them even now. It reminds me of a much better time.
John Denver looked like he was afraid of her. A really good one was Cass on the John Davidson show. They sit and sing together while he has his arms around her. He doesn't seem to have any "fat-fear" compared to others.

I just turned 69 not long ago and their music was popular when I was in high school. Each of the great harmonies of their songs seems to remind me of a time and place. In my book they will go down as one of the best folk rock groups of all time. Denny wrote just dynamite musical compositions. From time to time I catch myself whistling one of their tunes to this day!
I got into these when I was 15. Absolutely still love them today at 56. Their story fascinates me. Just so sad to know that 3 aren't with us now. I like to remember them as young. My favourite song is Twelve Thirty (young girls are coming to the canyon)
The music certainly stands on it's own, an additional component that you were not aware of was how the music was responsible for a major upheaval in our society, you had to be there to get that aspect. Lou Adler is uncredited fifth member who produced the timbre that puts their recordings on an exciting par. The early 20's age and sixties vibe give us fans a rush every time I hear them. Magical! And John Phillips was a genius arranger/songwriter until drug use brought him down.

The Mamas and the Papas sitting in the bathtub was one of the first two albums I ever owned; the second being ABBA Arrival. When I was in single digits, I asked my mother for some music and that’s what she gave me. They’re both still among my most favorite groups.
Cass had the best voice. Great songs often fueled by drama and drugs etc., often how it was with groups back then. The song Got a Feelin’ is gorgeous and a lost classic.
All their music was far better than the trash they play today. I can hardly listen to the radio anymore. They stopped playing the oldies of the 60's and 70's for the most part.

Their music highlighted my puberty years. As one who likes to sing I loved “Dream A Little Dream Of Me”. I loved the harmonies in “California Dreamin’” and pursued learning all of them. While learning to play guitar I started with the easy folk songs and loved folk music. I think their music had everything I liked: The melodies and harmonies are unforgettable to this day.

I remember hearing about Cass's death on my transistor radio when I was a little girl. They actually said that she died from choking on a sandwich. Even at a single digit age I didn't think it was funny one single bit. I didn't believe it even as a very young child. I loved her then and I still do. I have a question - I wasn't born yet for the 60's, but listening to music of the era, I wondered if Spanky And His Gang were a competing band to the Mamas/Papas? Which came first? Was it a trend to capture that harmony sound during that era, as bands tend to want to sound like another band(?)
Ok Boomer....(Just kidding). You guys really did live to see some amazing times and social changes that are still bearing fruit, even after all these years. And the music...holy hell, the music! Gen X here(1975), even from a very young age, California Dreamin' has been my favorite song. Up through the '80s and Metal, past the '90s and Grunge, I always come back to this song and this time. It's almost a spiritual thing for me at this point, in that it makes me miss a era that wasn't even alive to see.

Always loved this group. Incomparable harmonies. “Go Where You Wanna Go” and “Twelve Thirty” have been shining examples of this, and they are among my favorites. 3 years together…and we still talk about their greatness more than a half century later. That’s saying something. They were, are, and remain the mid 60s California vibe personified.

There’s something about it that seems timeless from the instrumental parts to the harmonies , the simple lyrics and Denny’s amazing lead.

I was born in 1968. I remember hearing the Mamas and the Papas on the radio as a kid quite often and I also remember watching Cass perform on several shows but one that sticks out in my mind was of her singing with John Denver. All I can say is WOW!! She had such power in her voice that you had to stop and listen. I think it is so sad that people judged her because of her weight. She was lovely. Her talent was amazing. I still love listening to them even now. It reminds me of a much better time.
John Denver looked like he was afraid of her. A really good one was Cass on the John Davidson show. They sit and sing together while he has his arms around her. He doesn't seem to have any "fat-fear" compared to others.
Yes!! She sang "Leaving on a Jet Plane" with him. It was so beautiful it still gives me goosebumps. Her harmonies were spot on.
Cass was awesome. Her song "Make your own kind of music" kept me going,
because I was so different from all of the boring kids I grew up with.

I just turned 69 not long ago and their music was popular when I was in high school. Each of the great harmonies of their songs seems to remind me of a time and place. In my book they will go down as one of the best folk rock groups of all time. Denny wrote just dynamite musical compositions. From time to time I catch myself whistling one of their tunes to this day!

I got into these when I was 15. Absolutely still love them today at 56. Their story fascinates me. Just so sad to know that 3 aren't with us now. I like to remember them as young. My favourite song is Twelve Thirty (young girls are coming to the canyon)
The music certainly stands on it's own, an additional component that you were not aware of was how the music was responsible for a major upheaval in our society, you had to be there to get that aspect. Lou Adler is uncredited fifth member who produced the timbre that puts their recordings on an exciting par. The early 20's age and sixties vibe give us fans a rush every time I hear them. Magical! And John Phillips was a genius arranger/songwriter until drug use brought him down.

Almost 57-in 2 months and I grew up with dads late 60s music and 70’s music and I was a huge listener and buyer of my generation - in the 80’s! I have of my folks 60’s and 70’s LPs and all my 80’s albums I bought in the 80’s. The 3 best decades in music. I have Mama Cass and Mamas and Papas original LPs my folks passed on to me. In my channel I have a Mama Cass video from a few years back (4) maybe where I spin her first solo album. 🤟🏼
Certainly great harmonies were present in their singing, and really a signature of the style at the time, along side the Beatles, the Monkees, and several others with four or more performers in their stage line-up. In later years (the 1970's) the Swedish group ABBA came in to the picture with 'Waterloo' winning the Eurovision contest in 1973. All the songs tell a life story which we as the audience can relate so well...

Despite the turbulent personal interactions, the harmony of their music was one of the best in folk-rock in my opinion.
The Mamas and the Papas sitting in the bathtub was one of the first two albums I ever owned; the second being ABBA Arrival. When I was in single digits, I asked my mother for some music and that’s what she gave me. They’re both still among my most favorite groups.
Cass had the best voice. Great songs often fueled by drama and drugs etc., often how it was with groups back then. The song Got a Feelin’ is gorgeous and a lost classic.
All their music was far better than the trash they play today. I can hardly listen to the radio anymore. They stopped playing the oldies of the 60's and 70's for the most part.
Those of us that remember the Mamas and Papas are leaving now. A great moment in time. Life has certainly been strange.

Like the Beatles the Mamas and Papas got great harmonies going with unique and different sounding voices. Great songs.
Their music highlighted my puberty years. As one who likes to sing I loved “Dream A Little Dream Of Me”. I loved the harmonies in “California Dreamin’” and pursued learning all of them. While learning to play guitar I started with the easy folk songs and loved folk music. I think their music had everything I liked: The melodies and harmonies are unforgettable to this day.
I was a teen too during that period and I bought all of their albums.

I remember hearing about Cass's death on my transistor radio when I was a little girl. They actually said that she died from choking on a sandwich. Even at a single digit age I didn't think it was funny one single bit. I didn't believe it even as a very young child. I loved her then and I still do.
