hi, i made the plugin that shounic used in that video to show where the bounding boxes of a few specific entities are (and informed him heavily as to the exact behavior of it, as has seemingly become standard with his videos, not that i mind since he can usually explain what i mean to the general public better than i can). the tragic thing about that collision bug is how easy it would be for valve to fix it. i can't exactly speak on behalf of the dragon's fury projectile SPECIFICALLY because the source code leak is out of date in that regard, but for the wrap assassin specifically, all it really involves is doing the check that the sandman does to only allow it to "touch" players. this will take a minute to explain but it should make sense by the end of it:
physical entities in source have two different functions for determining whether or not a collision with another entity (including the map itself) happened, those being a custom "Touch" function and a function called "VPhysicsCollision". the "Touch" function is very cheap compared to the VPhysicsCollision function, since it only compares bounding boxes. entities in the source engine can inherit and run functions from other entity classes, and the wrap assassin's stunball entity inherits directly from the sandman's stunball entity. the key difference here is that the wrap assassin stun ball has a custom "Touch" function that is almost identical to the sandman stun ball's touch function, except the sandman ball's "Touch" function does one extra check that the wrap assassin does not: it only "touches" bounding boxes belonging to PLAYERS. the wrap assassin does not have this check, and decides to just explode when it touches literally ANY bounding box for any solid object. the best part is that the wrap assassin literally has the necessary code to make it explode whenever it touches something physically via its VPhysicsCollision function, but the "Touch" function will almost 100% of the time run before the VPhysicsCollision function due to the bounding box encompassing the entire physical mesh of those map elements. in short: if the wrap assassin could only "Touch" players, and relegated any other kind of explosion to its existing physics collision function, we wouldn't have a problem. funnily enough, pipebombs do exactly this, except they don't explode on contact when they touch map elements (well, unless it's the loch n load i guess).
but what do i know, i just write plugins.

Its a classic example of a high skill ceiling weapon. Even other unlockable weapons that work completely differently from the other options don't tend to be too hard to come to grips with, if not actually being easier to use and forming bad habits as a result.

Thank you for the helpful guide! Got back into playing TF2 again and found myself seeing the respawn room most of my games using the Dragon's Fury trying to complete these Pyro contracts.
I LOVE the Dragon's Fury! Long range makes it actually usable, and It's rare that I would need to reflect so many projectiles that the increased cooldown matters all that much. It's like they took all the pyro balances it needed over the years, and condensed it into a single weapon.
Ehhhhh it seems alright but I’ve had issues with hit register and well…actually determining the distance this thing can be used at.
The first is probably a general projectile issue, the second is something you'll get a feel for with time (like many other new things). Not that it's gotta be for everyone, it's just a good alternative.
Also delayed shots in general on some servers...
@@V-Jes L a g. Lag is never good. Oof

@@V-Jes Yeah, that's a thing too. Rocket projectiles aren't lag compensated and the fireball is just a rocket as far as Source netcode is concerned.
The things i look forwards into your videos are the intros, then the content and after that the editing. You have very good skills sir
Tbh, I tried the Dragon fury in mvm, and I like it there, the fact that you can keep your distance, hit multiple targets and get a bigger fire rate is amazing, and if pair with the Gas passer for the crowd control and area denial, so if someone need some type of testing grounds for using the weapon in a "Safe" environment to determine the effective distance, that's is a option
It's pretty great there for tankbusting since you always get the full damage on tanks, and it has a range long enough for the fireball to go out the other side and still hit something while you're safe from their attacks. The extra range lets you also operate just that little bit more safely from the big guys too while piling on the damage.
I kinda wish there was more upgrades to spend money on for it, but honestly with all damage and healing upgrades you'd just spend the rest on resistances since you're a pyro and need that.
Yeah, but people are so anal about the meta that existed before JI that they will kick you if they see you take out either the Dragon's Fury or the Gas Passer, even though they are literally the best weapons for Pyro in MVM. Still mildly salty about that, lol.
@@acidwizzardbastard You've been kicked for using the gas passer in MvM? The hell?
@@Mantafirefly Yeah. Or at least I've had people go 'bro Gas Passer bad' and whine about it. The main reason why it's hated at all is because it's 'too' good, even though the robots don't feel emotion and don't get salty. People are confusing.

“Mann’s Guide to the Dragon’s Fury”
I think that the dragons fury is great for taking down high health classes and can reward players with aiming. I think it’s a bit of an underrated weapon.
And it's also a projectile nearly twice as fast as the *direct hit* of all things. ZOOMIN, wow.
Yeah but man that degreaser-panic attack switch speed, delicious
In my experience on the other side of the Flamethrower vs Dragon's Fury matchup, I feel like it's kinda the opposite of what was said here. If you're good at predictive airblasts (AKA: Guessing good) then you can significantly hamper the dragon's fury's ability to do damage to you. It's reliance on being able to hit you a second time while you're burning to get it's burst in means that an airblasted fireball sets you right back down to zero, or even worse if you just happen to be standing in some flame particles when that fireball gets reflected.
I’ve recently started using it as a combo weapon with various secondaries and it’s really quite fun and good.
So glad someone is finally giving this the time it deserves any of my friends I got to use it dropped it after the "nerf" of having to hit dead centre with the shot
Who knew the Pyro’s biggest weakness was going to the doctors and getting a vaccine because he’s scared of needles with this Dragon’s Fury bug?

I think that pyro is always a subclass of something, so most pyro mains feal like it's a sub sub class.
Alright! A reason to use a syringe gun!
Seriously though. Thank you very much for making this.

I think I'll give it another try.
WHY IS THERE NO STRANGIFIER FOR THIS GOD DAMMIT
Just here for the algorithim! Amazing video and people need to know that they can finally use pyro and get the fraggy feelings you get with other classes.
Damn I remember playing with the Dragon's Fury back when it released. I felt like I was 200% more effective with Pyro and still my most used flamethrower to this day
Scorch shot: *oVeRpOwErEd*
Also the perfect ideal situation for most damage: *enemy is standing still*
Someone talked about the panic attack being able to shoot inbetween your dragon furys firing cooldown, making for a crazy combo
So the dragon's fury is just a better flamethrower but requires at least some aim
I just realized Pyro has alot of weapons that award full crits
Remember that the best weapon to combo with the Dragon's Fury is... Yea, it's the Scorch Sh1t, but not because it would light people on fire at a significantly higher rate than the Detonator, you want to use this thing along with the Scorch Sh1t mostly because a direct hit of that nasty weapon has this knockback that makes it easier to land the first shot on the enemy gamers, hell, if you're fast enough the knockback it has makes even easier to aim directly at their feet, so you can technically lock em on the air and hit shots with ease.
A bit late with this, but this video has changed my view on this flamethrower, I had no idea how much this this thing did. I kinda had just let it gather dust in my backpack, but I've had so much fun disintegrating enemies and while not feeling braindead.
I've also seen more people use the thing after this video came out as well, so I'm glad more people are using this thing.
I love the way you aim, a scout jumps so you leave it until you can be 100% sure where he will land and nail him
