It's hard to counter the Crusader's Crossbow, but I find the syringes really shine when I use the "I don't trust my team to do shit" loadout. The Crossbow is good in many situations, but when you're backed into a corner or your team is too busy dying to help you, that's when the Overdose can really help you out (or Blutsauger since they effectively do the same thing in different ways, giving medics more of a chance to win/escape fights with either speed or durability). Pair it up with the Quick-Fix, and you just might get your team out of spawn and even cap the first point.
@play gray YES. Medics with the crossbow rely solely on an ubersaw crit or their teammates to survive. Countless times my teammates don't do shit against a single power class and I just go fuck it and bomb rush them with my overdose and kill the bastard. Just like Zesty said - no one and I say no one expects a med to just rush them in their face.

Come to think of it, the overdose also has great synergy with the vita-saw of all things. You can use the uber you keep after death to get to your teammates in the frontlines quicker.
Lmao yeah the thing about the crossbow being braindead in casual is true. I can’t hit a shot if someone really needed it, but I can usually just wildly shoot into a crowd of friends and, woah, there’s a green 100 on my screen and my head blob makes the happy chemical
I'm the complete opposite. I can usually land cross map shots on people that are running to or from battle (provided they don't just randomly stop because they notice I'm trying to arrow them, I always miss my next two shots if they stop moving for some reason) but the moment they all bundle up into a crowd, without fail, whenever I shoot an arrow into the crowd they always part just enough to leave a gap for my arrow to go through, and if the enemy team is bundled up too, it also barely misses them too. I'm not even exaggerating when I say I can count the number of times on my hands where I've landed a shot after shooting into a crowd, as opposed to times where I miss.

Eh don’t let others get to you your playing medic as long as you heal people and Uber occasionally they have no right to complain especially if they aren’t playing medic
@@sud1881 bro I'd rather have no medic in casual than a bad one, not saying this person is bad but just in general. Don't like getting baited for a medic to Uber a fresh install heavy cuz they saw it in the meet the medic video
I've been using the overdose this past few days, i and i actually like it! It's really funny when the enemies run up to you and die by the syringes because they won't ever expect a medic to wield anything other then the crossbow, you can somewhat defend yourself for once
i love Zesty's weapon videos cause they give the weapon the fairest of a chance to stand out and compares it to other options, even giving a valid reason why he says everything. He suffers, has fun, and faces how the weapon actually works in-game rather than what the stats say. Keep it up Zesty and I hope good fortune falls on you
Do people think holding a weapon is a downside only for the overdose, you have to hold banners to activate it, you have to hold a gun to shoot it, you need to heal by holding it
OVERFUN FACT: The speed boost remains even if your ubercharge is going down. This means, if you triggered it by mistake and switch away to the overdose at 90%, you will have the corresponding 18% speed boost for as long as you dont switch back to the medigun! Perfect for running away if your quickfix patient dies as soon as you start an ubercharge. The boost stays!
Oh sick! I always figured it started immediately draining on use but apparently not. Y'know honestly I think a fun way to buff it a bit would be to let the Overdose transfer the speed buff if you're Ubering someone. It doesn't need to be as high though since a 153% movement speed Scout sounds like an absolute nightmare.
I love the Overdose, but I usually pick the Crossbow or the Blutsauger The Crossbow is great for burst and ranged healing, and I usually don't tend to stick around a pocket and prefer to heal the entire team, so it comes handy quite often; and, quite frankly, the Blutsauger has almost no downsides as long as you can hit a few of the 40 shots.
@@Appletank8 it’s literally a couple hp per sec difference and if there’s no enemies to shoot at with it then there’s no reason to worry about having low health regen
The greatest upside of syringe guns is people are so used to crossbow medics they just walk towards the medic in a straight line thinking "the faster i close the gap the less damage the crossbow will deal" while syringes specifically counter people that get close to you in a straight line
Given how bad I am at aiming with the Crossbow, I almost always use The Overdose (I tend to use stock Syringe Gun if I decide to just goof off) because the added movement is very powerful. Also, The Amputator is my Medic melee of choice, not only for the higher health regen, but the AOE healing effect can really help break stalemates by keeping teammates alive longer.
I too, think the amputator is painfully underrated. I always stick around people, because trying to stab people with the ubersaw wasn't working for me, but the increased healing and the taunt from the amputator made it a fun weapon.
People say that the overdose is bad cause it has to active to get the boost meanwhile they spend 30 seconds trying to crossbow someone accros the map, the amount of time that you have the overdose active is the about the same as the amount of time you spend peeking a sniper sightline hoping for a random crit to one shot a sniper with the crossbow
The virgin crusaders crossbow: Looks like a bunch of wood planks and metal glued together Gets boring after 10 minutes Users make no attempt to fight back when their teammates go down. Can’t destroy stickybombs Can be reflected by enemy pyros Vs The chad overdose: Fun and satisfying every time Shows how the syringe gun started out, showing a true work of science Can make syringe wall art Can destroy stickybombs No pyro can reflect it’s syringes Users fight back when their teammates go down Amazing getaway tool

God something I absolutely love about your videos, whether I agree or not about your takes on weapons and such, is the absolute on point theming of each video, mainly the intro sequences, this ‘top med ‘ one was fantastic, and others like the ‘medics best friend’ are just fantastic.
The thing with the Overdose is 'It's not the crossbow' and 'You have to put away your medigun to use it', but like...people who use the Crossbow keep switching between it and the medigun SO much more than those using the Overdose (That is a debatable point because circumstances differ all the time) The Overdose's speed boost also lets the Medic, with a decent speed boost, jump gaps that they can't do normally and effectively parkour around the map whether into or out of dangerous situations. It's very exhilarating actually!
if the primaries and melees had alt fire that does burst healing(primaries with a Medic Sandvich and melees with a injector syringe) the Crossbow would still be a Support Medic must have but not the only supporter medic option.
@@PotatoPatatoVonSpudsworth no, better for the Medic to help the team with his syringe guns and the crossbow having a throwable medium health medic pack that gives 5% uber and had the Sadnvich cooldown stats over spamming shots. you are better off having a realiable thing. a heal shot for new weapons could work. like if say, SMG like things for the medic are added, I think a small health pack throwable would fit it.

I remember when I got kicked from a server because I was a combat medic... Went on a killstreak, got screamed at for not healing people, while I was holding a point all of myself... I just wrote: "If you want some heals, come to me, so I can heal you, sniper dots is at me, so help me me!" Then I got kicked... Sad times, they didn't understand that medic has also tools of mass damage...
As a predominantly medic player, this made so much sense to me that im not ashamed to admit that i equipped the overdose on at least one of medic loadouts
the speed boost is useful to both get away or fight on, since u can pretty much outrun most of the classes, its not the crossbow but u can say that to pretty much every other option (also non meta =/= bad).
@@vinny464 but if you can aim you could use the blutsauger for the same thing by just tanking damage as you back pedal also because you’re faster than pyro you can literally just back pedal them to death while out healing the afterburn
The overdose is a no brainer in mvm btw. Since your medigun heals twice as fast when fully upgraded switching to the crossbow becomes a net negative in healing rate and because the overheal cap can be increased to 250% instead of 150%, your allies are almost never low enough health for the crossbow to come in handy. But you also tend to hold on to your uber more, so you get that full 20% speed boost more often. It's super useful for retreating/repositioning/moving to help teammates somewhere else.
A positive surprisingly overlooked is that explosive-surfing can actually get you to safety more often since without the boost your surf could just be nullified with a simple chase.
I think one big problem with switching away from the crossbow is that everyone is expecting you have it. When I've gone battle medic for fun (and team is not good at keeping me alive) I'll use the blutsauger, but then some soldier is on a roof is calling for me and I can't reach him, then he gets pissed off its a whole thing.
I think something that would get people liking the Overdose more is if it had maybe a 20% or 30% explosive damage resistance while held out as well as the incremental speed boost. That would make it the ultimate damage surfing weapon for Medic!
Fun load out: overdose, kritz, and vita saw. Getting vita saw hits keeps Uber up in between deaths; gap close w/ the overdose and spies are never a worry. Enemy team has to worry about a insane medic randomly appearing at Mach speed and now that plog pyro / soldier / demo/etc has crits.
It is a very well argued video, and as a main heavy by myself I can say that a tool that increases your speed of movement is much, and I say much more useful than is usually believed. Yes, I am talking specifically about the Gloves of running urgently, you do not know how many times I have seen myself in situations where these gloves are the key to staying alive when another type of weapon would be useless. Also, it's also great to learn about dodging sniper sightlines when is needed as I'm using a meta melee that isn't the fists of steel
As a medic main with 400 hours on medic most of the time i stay alive enough to get full uber and the overdose is a very good item to keep your uber after full
Im learning so much with this stuff. I may not be the best at most Tf2 classes but stuff like this helps me learn more for stuff (if i ever get the weapons like the Overdose or even the Crossbow cuz i never had them in all my time playing)
Played since beta. Seen the rise and fall of many a weapon. I was og "Crossbow is underrated" before comp picked it up, used the Detonator when it was a decent damage weapon, and actually preferred the Syringe Gun to the Blut. I used and quickly dumped the Overdose on release. I'll be giving it a look now.
people really be like "the overdose sucks because you have to put it out in order to get the boost" do they think the powerjack gives a speed boost all the time?
Does the pyro build Uber when his secondary is out? Edit: Can you build up Uber efficiently and use the overdose to get to the front lines at the same time?
@@CassieCarryd pyro never builds uber, and when you (as a medic) pull out the overdose you sacrifice your ability to heal allies and build uber (what medic is supposed to do, heal) in exchange for a speed boost + distance damage dealer. When pulling out the powerjack, the pyro sacrifices his biggest damage dealer and the ability to airblast(what pyro is supposed to do, reflect projectiles and damage the enemies) for a speed boost. It's kinda the same thing.
@@maestrofeli4259 I don't know how I never got a notification, but you're kinda missing the point of these speed boost weapons here entirely. Pyro usually doesn't focus on his melee in combat, therefore using it to simply get him to the frontlines faster is a valid use for the weapon slot. He also doesn't have an inherent reason to keep another weapon out, like the medic does, which is to build Uber on the way to the front lines. While you can say that you can just switch off your melee when you get into danger as a pyro, if you were to run to the front lines as a medic with the overdose out, you'd be likely wasting Uber buildup, not overhealing teammates and not even getting a sizable speed increase in the first place. If medic simply had a flat movespeed increase on the overdose like the power jack does, maybe this would be even comparable, but it isn't. The medic has something to do on his way back to the frontlines, the pyro really doesn't. You can use the power jack as a tool to get both in and out of fights, the overdose is mainly a tool to get out of fights after you've decided that it isn't favorable, therefore, the use case is lowered.
I got a way to knock the crossbow down a peg, make the long distance healing require you to sacrifice uber charge. It would add a bit more strategy and make it less boring.
Finally, he's realised the viability of the Overdose. Fellow Overdose enjoyers, let us fight back against the oppressive Crossbow fans. Also, as a sniper, any sudden change in movement speed throws me off (which is why I can't counter-snipe properly)
I love how in literally every scenario shown in the gameplay footage, the blutsauger would have been a better choice, saving him from dying in every clip he did Not only would the people you were facing have died faster, but your HP would have been better off during and after the encounter
The amputator is awesome, the self healing can get up to 9hp/s which is actually insane. You do regenerate health more by healing hurt patients, but you only get up to the same 6hp/s you would at max crit heals or 4 at min, so if you have absolutely no one to heal or haven't taken damage in a while but are still low you can just pull it out and boom health.
I feel like saying the overdose is bad because its speed boost isn’t passive is like saying the GRUs and powerjack are bad because their speedboosts aren’t passive.
When I used to play TF2 religiously I'd pick the worst load out to humiliate the people I killed. "LOL you got killed by a sharpened volcano fragment/Strange Bison" Made me feel warm inside
I want to see a rebalance for the crossbow, left click does damage no matter who it hits, right click does healing no matter who it hits. Makes you think more before firing, and fits with the medic's persona of being an absolute nut. Also yes as a med main, sometimes I want to be a prick to toxic people on my team and heal the opposition.
Some Say, He has stolen every mercenaries bottom left rib, and that he's currently running towards you right now... All we know is, he's called the Overdose Medic.
From what little i played of TF2, the overdoes is indeed underrated, like its stock with 1 less damage and speed boost to help you RUN AWAY depending no your ubercharge, and yes the crossbow overpowers all needle guns. Edit: hmm excellent points. Plus pair it with the uber saw for gaining Charge or the if your a mad lad the the vita saw to maintain that charge if you still end up dead. Also i guess it makes a good battle medic primary if thats a thing (all be it a bad idea). Aw yeah the amputator too.
Holy shit, I tested this, its true, Its VERY good. Never have I tested the weapon with the right mindset as a main medic. I will definitely start using it more! Thanks Zesty.
The editing, the jokes, the pacing, the clips. Hot damn, that's a good video! Oh and also, thanks a lot for the suggestion. I'll be playing around with an overdose now.
i think there are 2 main deal that cause people don't use the overdose 1. the crossbow is just too good to not use The overdose speed boost is mainly use for 2 things , stay alive and getting to teammate faster . 1.1 The crossbow have a higher damage and it is a burst damage compare to overdose need more time to kill someone , medics need to defend themselves or run away when their teammate died or some enemy get near you , which in both cases the enemy are unlikely to be in full health when they get to you , so the burst damage the crossbow can finish the enemy off better than overdose and keep you alive . 1.2 And for getting to teammate faster , you aim for getting to teammate faster is to give out healing and unlike the medi gun , the crossbow can heal from long range , so even it take longer to get to your teammate , you can still heal your teammate . 2. For pub , there is random crit no matter you like it or hate it , there is random crit in pub now and as you may know medic's melee have a high crit rate , so when medic face enemy in close range , swing the saw and hope for a random crit may have a higher chance to keep you alive and for mid to long distance , the crossbow can defend you better because of the higher burst damage as i mention in the 1st point So what the overdose can do , a experience medic can do the same by fully utilize their load out and do better in medic with build uber faster , burst healing and long range healing ability that the crossbow supply where the overdose shine is when the player is not an experience medic , a experience medic can get more out of the crossbow but noob medic may get more from the overdose because of 1 thing , AIM . the crossbow require the player to hit their shots to benefit from it but the overdose don't , the speed boost is a buff actives when we pull out the weapon so even you can't hit anything , you can still benefit from using it but the crossbow is useless when you miss your bolt its like the Battalion's Backup compare to the Concheror , the backup can boost you health from 200 to 289(220/0.76 from Jesus) even you do nothing and the concheror may give you more health in total if you do a ton of damage but it require aim
I always thought that the overdose was criminally underated. I use it way more often than the crossbow. I like combining this weapon with the solemn vow. In some situtaions the enemies almost never come close to me hit them with the ubersaw,so since ubersaw does not use its upside it is better to use the solemn vow whose upside is passive, there are many times where I see an alst dead enemy and I go for the kill.

Last time I was this early people were excited about Engineer getting a Stetson.
Do people think holding a weapon is a downside only for the overdose, you have to hold banners to activate it, you have to hold a gun to shoot it, you need to heal by holding it
OVERFUN FACT:
The speed boost remains even if your ubercharge is going down.

I love the Overdose, but I usually pick the Crossbow or the Blutsauger
The Crossbow is great for burst and ranged healing, and I usually don't tend to stick around a pocket and prefer to heal the entire team, so it comes handy quite often; and, quite frankly, the Blutsauger has almost no downsides as long as you can hit a few of the 40 shots.
the downside the blutsager has is that its not the crossbow
The blutsager is my quintessential would someone kill the divebombing pyro already weapon.
Honestly, one of the main hurdles when switching from the crossbow is remembering that you can't heal your teammates by shooting at them.
if you’re injured from long distance, or enemies are already dead, your self healing rate is abysmal.

The thing with the Overdose is 'It's not the crossbow' and 'You have to put away your medigun to use it', but like...people who use the Crossbow keep switching between it and the medigun SO much more than those using the Overdose (That is a debatable point because circumstances differ all the time)
The Overdose's speed boost also lets the Medic, with a decent speed boost, jump gaps that they can't do normally and effectively parkour around the map whether into or out of dangerous situations. It's very exhilarating actually!
Zesty: Overdose is great

the speed boost is useful to both get away or fight on, since u can pretty much outrun most of the classes, its not the crossbow but u can say that to pretty much every other option (also non meta =/= bad).
@@vinny464 I know 5his comment is a joke
That’s a reason why the blutsauger is better because you can keep you health up to surf

I think something that would get people liking the Overdose more is if it had maybe a 20% or 30% explosive damage resistance while held out as well as the incremental speed boost. That would make it the ultimate damage surfing weapon for Medic!
Whenever someone says the blutsauger is the best syringe gun I die inside.

I'll be giving it a look now.
people really be like "the overdose sucks because you have to put it out in order to get the boost"
do they think the powerjack gives a speed boost all the time?
I honestly like the Overdose, since it's so rarely used people think you're easy to kill when you're alone but then you just run off at Scout speeds.
Ok, i love using the overdose, specially with the quick fix.
I love how in literally every scenario shown in the gameplay footage, the blutsauger would have been a better choice, saving him from dying in every clip he did
Not only would the people you were facing have died faster, but your HP would have been better off during and after the encounter
To be fair, the blutsauger cant save you from a crocket
Basically all of them except spy. So if you have spies gunning for you and your team sucks, overdose is better. Any other scenario blutsauger.
The unwritten downside for using the overdose:
You can’t burst heal your team or heal them from a long range
That's the unwritten downside of every other syringe gun though
@@oceancactusrequiem6232 No kidding, if I wasn’t using the crossbow, might as well be fast

its not that the overdose is bad, its just that burst healing and long distance healing is just SO GOD DAMN GOOOOOOOD
I still haven't gotten the achievement
"does it hurt when i do this"
it's my final medic achievement and this seems like the weapon to do it
The amputator is awesome, the self healing can get up to 9hp/s which is actually insane.
When I used to play TF2 religiously I'd pick the worst load out to humiliate the people I killed.

that's some pretty sad way to play any game, and the fact you think it's fine to share it to others is even sadder
Fun loadout: quick fix, overdose, and the vita-saw
Some Say, He has stolen every mercenaries bottom left rib, and that he's currently running towards you right now... All we know is, he's called the Overdose Medic.
Finally someone saw the potential of this weapon.
Using this thing and running at people who normally think "aha! a free kill!" when they see a lone medic throws them off SO BADLY, it's hilarious

Thanks Zesty.

Hot damn, that's a good video!
Oh and also, thanks a lot for the suggestion. I'll be playing around with an overdose now.
Have fun, it's actually a really fun weapon
i think there are 2 main deal that cause people don't use the overdose
1. the crossbow is just too good to not use
The overdose speed boost is mainly use for 2 things , stay alive and getting to teammate faster .
2. For pub , there is random crit
no matter you like it or hate it , there is random crit in pub now and as you may know medic's melee have a high crit rate , so when medic face enemy in close range , swing the saw and hope for a random crit may have a higher chance to keep you alive and for mid to long distance , the crossbow can defend you better because of the higher burst damage as i mention in the 1st point
So what the overdose can do , a experience medic can do the same by fully utilize their load out and do better in medic with build uber faster , burst healing and long range healing ability that the crossbow supply
where the overdose shine is when the player is not an experience medic , a experience medic can get more out of the crossbow but noob medic may get more from the overdose because of 1 thing , AIM .
the crossbow require the player to hit their shots to benefit from it but the overdose don't , the speed boost is a buff actives when we pull out the weapon so even you can't hit anything , you can still benefit from using it but the crossbow is useless when you miss your bolt
its like the Battalion's Backup compare to the Concheror , the backup can boost you health from 200 to 289(220/0.76 from Jesus) even you do nothing and the concheror may give you more health in total if you do a ton of damage but it require aim
Me, the one Medic main who uses the Overdose and Amputator regularly: *wúnderbar*

I can confim firsthand that the Bionicle lore is deeper than the Marianas Trench.
