So, something I should have tested for this video is the interaction between the 10% damage penalty and 25% damage bonus...I didn't, and frankly there is no excuse. Since these damage modifiers interact multiplicatively, it's not a 15% damage bonus, it's 12.5% damage bonus on burning players. You think I would have thought of that given how passionate I am about proper calculation of damage penalties and resistances. When both the penalty and bonus interact together, incoming damage is multiplied by: (1-0.1)*(1+0.25)=1.125 The difference between a 12.5% damage bonus over stock, and a 15% damage bonus over stock, is fairly insignificant. At point blank range, stock deals 54 damage per bullet. 54*1.125=60.75 (rounds down to 60 for a 12.5% bonus) Compare this with: 54*1.15=62.1 (rounds down to 62 for a 15% bonus). So a difference of 2 damage per bullet. Not that much. At base damage range: 30*1.125=33.75 (rounds down to 33 for a 12.5% bonus) && 30*1.15=34.5 (rounds down to 34 for a 15% bonus). So a difference of one damage per bullet. Also not that much. At maximum falloff, there is no difference between stock and the HLH with either the 12.5% bonus or the 15% bonus, thanks to damage rounding. Both deal 5-10 damage per bullet. So a 12.5% damage bonus and a 15% damage bonus are nearly the same. Sorry I didn't include this in the video, I didn't even cross my mind as I was writing the script.

I love the heater. Enemies will always get close to you for some dumb reason. Not to mention when you are shredding enemies, the ammo drain isn’t that much of a problem. I would also pair the heater with ether the delicious slab or the surprise assault.
The squareness of the fire ring can be tested on something like TR walkway's sentry room, just lay out 5 engineers in a line and edge towards the middle one while axially aligned, if they all ignite at the same time, it's a square. Edit: Checked myself, it's a circle with zero thickness that is centred at the bottom of the heavy's bounding box where he touches the floor. It checks for hits against the bounding box of the players so the class doesn't matter, but it gives a partial illusion of a square hit area for the ring itself since player bounding boxes are axially aligned. This means that that standing on someone is *just* too high to set them on fire, and any height above the heavy's position is enough to not be in contact with the flames. Also probably worth mentioning that a 10% damage penality doesn't mean too much if you also still have to spend time revving up.
HuoLong heater is good if you have a Pyro buddy, but then again, doesn't every weapon work better if you have a buddy applying extra dps on your targets?
This video got me to use the Huo Long Heater, and honestly it's quite fun to use. The ring of fire punishes people for getting too close (like annoying scouts who go point blank and mess up my tracking) and just sounds friggin cool. I like it.

“Huo-long heater has area denial” So does every minigun ever, that’s the miniguns point. To punish close up enemies. The extra damage doesn’t matter, you shred them with any other minigun up close where the heater is most viable.
I actually really enjoy the huo-long heater, kinda started using it as a joke a few years back and now it and the tomislav are my go to choices. Its great for a more hyper aggressive heavy especially on maps with a lot of places to drop down on a large group of enemies
Y'see, this is actually kinda interesting. Since the way I play Heavy is more like a flank class. It's one of the "almost good" weapon for me, the fire ring can be negated by some classes (jump-spamming Scouts and Spys), and the ammo drain is a pain in the ass for a hard commit class. But it's cool for an agressive or suicidal playstyle.
The ammo economy is what kills the weapon. Honestly if it were even slightly more accurate or the conditional damage bonus were more under heavy's control then the weapon would easily rival the tomislav
Let's take this moment to thank Mama Zest, and the name "Chu Chu Yeah!" for a dragon gun is brilliant. Also, this is great stuff. I appreciate the sacrifices you made for our mortal souls and entertainment.
My theory for what causes the HLH to deal more afterburn when active is that the afterburn is coded to count as damage on burning players getting the 25% bonus, and the damage bonus only being active while you're holding it, hence it goes from 4 dmg/tick to 5
I also have a strange one. Stats so far: 3,055 kills 13 posthumous kills 769 burning players killed 112 cloaked spies killed If you're right next to the payload cart, why not? Definitely makes it harder for spies. "But they can jump over the fire ring ". Well, yeah, but it's not like you should just stare straight ahead and never look behind you. The fire ring combined with basic awareness helps. And getting a posthumous kill with it is hilarious.
I... I didn't remember it had damage bonus against burning players. I might give it a chance. I want to play annoying ambush heavy. Maybe with dalohkos bar it will be fun as you are just a bit more tanky.
I will never stop saying that the Huo Long heater should fire a flare like proyectyle every about 12 damage or so dealt, the only thing this proyectyle does is set ppl for after burn at a distance, this makes the heavy way more independant and the heater way more viable
If this thing had a faster It's been up time by just a bit when enemy players are within melee range. I could definitely see this thing being a close range weapon that rewards being in close proximity to dangerous things. Jump in the combat from around a corner into the face of the enemy team while lighting them on fire from the flame effect then getting extra damage to help melt them down and then it's a race between who can win the DPS fight. That's about the only way I see this weapon being good at all.
Well, what a nice surprise that the Heater is at least more viable than I initially thought! I'd likely take stock over Heater, but its good to know in the specific situation where a scout that keeps stealing all the ammo from me and theres a dropped Heater.. Its something. Hope that theres a slight buff for that spinup speed. Would make it stand out more at least.
wtf hes not beating up uncle dane huo long heater's my baby in mvm, free extra damage for hugging robots and no movement penalty, synergizes with a pyro, it's a beaut
Now that we have this video, there is only one more challenge we have for Zesty, comparing every unique non reskinned minigun in one video while using brand new data and applying what you have learned from previous videos and playstyles
The heater does have the advantage of pairing with a flare spamming pyro extremely well. It's also quite good in MvM because when isn't the heavy near the dispenser.
The problem with the Heater is it relies too much on flame damage which Heavy cannot dish out at range. I don't think it should lose this stat, since it creates an interesting synergy between Heavy and Pyro. Instead, it should get another buff.
if only the fire aspect of the Huo-Longheater was changed to be more reliable I can see the Huo-Longheater being op. Like maybe instead of relying on pyros and your own super small ring of fire to get that damage bonus, I can see it performing better that consistently firing the HLH(huo longheater) would heat up the barrel(like how minigun can "overheat" in some games) but when its fully heated up fire would spew out of the barrel(which would let you know that its fully heated up), which then once fully "heated up" would fire bullets that when coming in contact with enemy players they would be lit up in flames as the damage bonus would be 30% instead of 25%. The increase in the damage bonus is because that you'd need to be pretty much spending alot of ammo in order to become "fully heated". Also I imagine that it would get 15% more ammo from ammo crates. so then this gun is pretty much built on constantly firing in order to get that damage buff but can get ammo back more quickly from nearby dispenser/ammo packs or gain a bit more ammo from ammo boxes from killing players.

Also, this is great stuff. I appreciate the sacrifices you made for our mortal souls and entertainment.
Serval’s lookin real fuckin’ banging in the the thumbnail, not gonna lie.
You look exactly like my high school marching band choreography teacher and now I'm scared that my teacher was a tf2ber in secret.
well apparently he is a teacher so...
My theory for what causes the HLH to deal more afterburn when active is that the afterburn is coded to count as damage on burning players getting the 25% bonus, and the damage bonus only being active while you're holding it, hence it goes from 4 dmg/tick to 5
We need more artwork
the thubnail art is great
The thumbnail though, we rarely seen some warrior girls in thumbnails these days.

I love a woman that can kick my ass
*Sees hou long girl*
I’m uh... did I just find a kink?
I also have a strange one. Stats so far:
3,055 kills
13 posthumous kills
769 burning players killed
112 cloaked spies killed
If you're right next to the payload cart, why not? Definitely makes it harder for spies. "But they can jump over the fire ring ". Well, yeah, but it's not like you should just stare straight ahead and never look behind you. The fire ring combined with basic awareness helps. And getting a posthumous kill with it is hilarious.
I... I didn't remember it had damage bonus against burning players.
I might give it a chance. I want to play annoying ambush heavy. Maybe with dalohkos bar it will be fun as you are just a bit more tanky.
mad props to the man who threw the sandwich at you while you were burning.
I will never stop saying that the Huo Long heater should fire a flare like proyectyle every about 12 damage or so dealt, the only thing this proyectyle does is set ppl for after burn at a distance, this makes the heavy way more independant and the heater way more viable
The original design was similar, but it was too hard to implement it, so sorry.

@@josep754 the early Huo Long Designs were that of a Semi auto flare shooter.
Zesty's Huo-Long Heater being named "Chu chu yeah" is a reference i didn't expect but am happy to know
If this thing had a faster It's been up time by just a bit when enemy players are within melee range.
5:17 Wilf Hoovy being an absolute pal!
Quite interesting results. I never thought the HLH could be viable.
Would make it stand out more at least.
wtf hes not beating up uncle dane
huo long heater's my baby in mvm, free extra damage for hugging robots and no movement penalty, synergizes with a pyro, it's a beaut
WP ma boy
I use stock for good damage I dont have to wait 8 years to rev
I love that he credits his mom as the in house chef

you!
Now that we have this video, there is only one more challenge we have for Zesty, comparing every unique non reskinned minigun in one video while using brand new data and applying what you have learned from previous videos and playstyles
the VIRGIN stock minigun VS the CHAD huo long heater
I did not know that the afterburn gains the 25% damage increase on burning players while the Huo-long Heater is active.
2:25 I can’t believe you’ve done this to me
Amogus 😳
The heater does have the advantage of pairing with a flare spamming pyro extremely well. It's also quite good in MvM because when isn't the heavy near the dispenser.
Holy shit that thumbnail is a work of a god
Saw the title and thought the video was a joke at first lmao. After watching I'm actually thinking of switching to the heater. Great video as always!
Is Zesty the one who drew the art on the thumbnail of the video? Because its fire!
no he didnt do the thumbnail but it would be pretty cool if he did, check the description for the artist
I like the lil kirby showdown joke in the beginning, small thing but thats such a call back it hit me
i swear i did not click this video because of the thumbnail. i swear.
Zesty actually got the pronounciation correct doing the lock comment
2:24 why is Jeremy watching over this engie lol
Think it’s a reskin of the “marked for death” sign
@@natema5927 yes I am aware

i'm not a regular viewer of this channel but that's one hell of a thumbnail
bonus points for the konata decompress break too
yo
The correct way to pronounce the name is to say it whilst simultaneously vomiting up your entire digestive system.
The problem with the Heater is it relies too much on flame damage which Heavy cannot dish out at range. I don't think it should lose this stat, since it creates an interesting synergy between Heavy and Pyro. Instead, it should get another buff.
heavy mains needed this
thank you
You made a mistake, at 6:13 the text at the bottom showing the two miniguns should be switched around.

Let us take a moment to mourn the death of sans sign scout
He really almost had him
if only the fire aspect of the Huo-Longheater was changed to be more reliable I can see the Huo-Longheater being op. Also I imagine that it would get 15% more ammo from ammo crates.
so then this gun is pretty much built on constantly firing in order to get that damage buff but can get ammo back more quickly from nearby dispenser/ammo packs or gain a bit more ammo from ammo boxes from killing players.
also maybe a 20% higher ammo pool
