well no wonder Don couldn't get on with his kids, they weren't his or at least it wasn't their life they were living. They never really explained that, Did Whiteman take on dons life after or before he met betty?
@@derlenx1097 They did explain it. He met Betty after taking on his new identity. The real Don Draper was married to Anna at the time, and Dick then had a deep friendship with her, before asking for a divorce in order to marry Betty. They also explained exactly how Don met and courted Betty.
Horrible husband too. He saw what he was doing to his wife and kept doing it. He was all about self-gratification. His family gave him plenty of opportunity to be with them and he chose cheap women every time.
Yup,but also what makes it so accurate, how many fathers were like this in that era like 30 percent? and now its more like 70 though its transformed into being weak instead of just uncaring or greedy lust filled types.
@@danielhicks4826 Modern fathers actually spend more time with their kids and do more child rearing than in the past, but there are still lots of deadbeats
The man likes his rum too much. Sally is trying to be the perfect daughter by being the perfect wife. It's sad. He had a great family until he finally broke his wife and that broke the family.
Don is very curt and short with his kids, and doesn’t really do the things a dad would be expected to, atleast one from a wealthy background. Its a common saying that it takes years to get the stink of poverty off of you, and I can see that with don.
@@yeshv1989he barely spent time with them even when he and Betty were together and it was only until the later seasons that he began to share anything about who he really is, his actual history, with them.
Absolutely. She watched her mother smoke and tried herself to do it when only 8. And she did not just watch her father drink heavily, as she would prepare the drinks too. Considering this and Don's statement that she'd grow up to be just like her parents, Sally definitely grew up to be a heavy drinker AND smoker.
Rum and syrup do not have the same viscosity. Sally should’ve noticed that something was wrong as soon as the liquid started pouring, or she saw that it wasn’t pouring properly, and just decided to give Don potentially bad syrup anyway.
Interesting analysis i can partially agree with, theres also the fact during that time period daughters would do that for the fathers because thats what there mothers would do
Poor Sally she really loved her dad. Betty was a piece of shit. Don should have taken her, but he didnt want to be a dad at this point in time. It's sad because this shows how children can become helpless victims of their parents ambitions
not sure why anyone sane would just assume that. This is obviously some father or step father or father figure with his daughter. Youre kind of sick bro...lol. get help.
Love how Don just decides that Rum laced pancakes aren't that bad.
To don, probably aren't! And ofcourse anything made by his daughter probably tastes good to dad.
HiddenWen have you ever tried it? I just did it wasn't too bad and I'm sure Don's rum is a whole lot better than mine.
No I haven't, but for a huge alcoholic like Don I bet even bitter tasting spirits would taste nice.
That actually sounds good!
Honestly, French toast with rum sounds amazing. But for a hardcore alcoholic like Don it’s probably heaven.
That 'not really' line is so good

Sally seems a lot like Betty in this scene; clear, clipped consonants, good diction, good posture.
I've got to think that's VERY intentional.
yes ! very much intentional.

Officer: Have you been drinking?
Don: No officer. It was French Toast.
Mrs. Butterworth made me do it.
I love that Betty didn’t teach Sally how to cook but the maid did.
- Is it bad?
- Not really... actually, next time don't put any bread. Just rum, please.
Can’t imagine drinking alcohol on an empty stomach for me though. Maybe for don it’s like water.
I wonder how many people tried putting rum on their french toast because of this scene.
i sure did... wasnt super good, but not bad either. id recommend flavoring some whipped cream with rum instead.
You’d be amazed how many people
Were doing this before this scene lol the recipe clearly says, “season to taste”

I hate French toast, but I'd try it on pancakes.

Is it bad....not really. Cute scene.

I got the same vibe too!
Super cute :-)
Sally’s wearing the initial necklace that Don (via his secretary Alison) got her for Christmas
Don is such an alcoholic! 😂
Pancakes covered in rum. “Hey these aren’t bad!”
"not really" is just... exquisitely delivered
Kiernan Shipka is an incredible actress given her age
After I saw this episode years ago, my girlfriend and I made rum laced pancakes. And, I mean, Don was right-they were actually pretty fire. 😅
Wtf I’m trying this then
Sally turning into a little lady is so damn cute
She is one of the best characters in the show.
He is a bad father; he hardly sees his kids and when he does he is unmotivated or unhappy.
Agree. Sally is desperately trying to please her Father for any attention she can get.

rum for breakfast is dangerous
Father of the Year & Breakfast of Champions, all in one.
Currently drinking rum. Will definitely be putting it on my French toast next time.
Put rum in a hot skillet and you're probably gonna start a fire.
His issue wasn't about the Rum in the pancakes, it was she didn't read the label, a happy accidental breakfast.
Sally Draper playing the housewife. Cute and concerning at the same time.
no tiene nada de malo. ❤
Wait, putting rum on your French toast isn’t normal?
Tomorrow morning I'm making french toast topped with Bacardi Dark Rum!
Sally woke up bossy that day
Im not going to pour straight rum the next time i do french toast but i AM going to add rum to the batter. I bet itll taste fantastic
classic.
People don't put rum in their food?
Why is the rum always gone?

Of course, the alcoholic won’t complain about pancakes topped with rum.
Do you suppose Sally grew up to be a drinker herself?
Alcoholism is hereditary, so there's a better-than-average chance that the answer is "yes."
Probably a witch!!

Probably concordancy. Pancakes and syrup go closer together in most minds.
