The man likes his rum too much. Sally is trying to be the perfect daughter by being the perfect wife. It's sad. He had a great family until he finally broke his wife and that broke the family.
Rum and syrup do not have the same viscosity. Sally should’ve noticed that something was wrong as soon as the liquid started pouring, or she saw that it wasn’t pouring properly, and just decided to give Don potentially bad syrup anyway.

After I saw this episode years ago, my girlfriend and I made rum laced pancakes. And, I mean, Don was right-they were actually pretty fire. 😅
Don is very curt and short with his kids, and doesn’t really do the things a dad would be expected to, atleast one from a wealthy background. Its a common saying that it takes years to get the stink of poverty off of you, and I can see that with don.
What kind of things do you think he is neglecting to do with his children?
@@yeshv1989he barely spent time with them even when he and Betty were together and it was only until the later seasons that he began to share anything about who he really is, his actual history, with them.

His issue wasn't about the Rum in the pancakes, it was she didn't read the label, a happy accidental breakfast.

Horrible husband too. He saw what he was doing to his wife and kept doing it. He was all about self-gratification. His family gave him plenty of opportunity to be with them and he chose cheap women every time.
Yup,but also what makes it so accurate, how many fathers were like this in that era like 30 percent? and now its more like 70 though its transformed into being weak instead of just uncaring or greedy lust filled types.

She is one of the best characters in the show.
Poor Sally she really loved her dad. Betty was a piece of shit. Don should have taken her, but he didnt want to be a dad at this point in time. It's sad because this shows how children can become helpless victims of their parents ambitions

Sally seems a lot like Betty in this scene; clear, clipped consonants, good diction, good posture. I've got to think that's VERY intentional.

He does say that her mother will pick her up so most would assume that he is the father or some fatherly figure.

Absolutely. She watched her mother smoke and tried herself to do it when only 8. And she did not just watch her father drink heavily, as she would prepare the drinks too. Considering this and Don's statement that she'd grow up to be just like her parents, Sally definitely grew up to be a heavy drinker AND smoker.
