Singing isn't the only thing people are pretending to do on musical.ly; apparently the app is home to an entirely more pretentious genre of lazy content: lip synch acting. But how far can someone go in life just by mouthing words that other people said? Turns out, pretty far actually.

At around four minutes in, when drew is doing the bit with the audition, you can see a small sign hanging in the background with various horses on it. I have that same sign. Always have. Its always been in my house since I was a small child. I don't know where it came from. Seeing it in this video made me question everything.

Honestly lip synching along to dialogue in a mirror could be a good way to practice emoting more with your face instead of leaning entirely on your voice, as long as you acknowledge that's all it is and nothing more.
Yeah. Coming back, lipsyncing can help learn how to emote for others. Learning by watching and imitating others is good, but then I watch the “acting” and they can’t even emote good.
I used to make stupid musically videos when I was kid lipsyncing to different songs and I honestly believe it made me better at making facial expressions. I like to learn kpop dances and a lot of people who just started learning them will lipsync while they dance with a completely neutral expression while their mouth barely mouths. But I think do the exaggerated expressions when lipsyncing on musically actually helped me do realistic emoting with my face while dancing.
5 years later and they're still making these shows. Chicken Girls just finished a new season like last week. No clue if the quality has gone up as I don't have Drew to sift through the new shows for me and I ain't doin that myself

As someone went through all 11 seasons (I'm a completionist and hate myself for it): seasons 1-2 were cringe, seasons 3-9 were ok-ish, in season 10 I really don't know what they were thinking with that one and season 11 was the worst of all. you wouldn't think it can go any worse and it did get worse. They even don't give a damn about continuity anymore. Season 11 is just an unrelated series of Dhar Mann videos

Em Wiebe its overacting. they put an unnatural emphasis on either their vocals or their expressions and forget to do anything with their body so it comes off just unnatural and weird.
^^ overacting is common in untrained and/or child actors (in this case both)

There's nothing wrong with like 11 year olds badly lip-synching to victorious, they're just doing it for fun. But when adults badly lip-synch to victorious, expecting to get a netflix original series from it, we have a problem.
Edit: I also feel like if your gonna learn all the lines to something you could just say it yourself. It's still not going to be emmy-worthy but it would be a lot more impressive than lip-synching
