    Even 14 years after unofficially retiring from acting, Mary-Kate and Ashley are still two of the richest and most famous celebrities in the world. Let's take a look back at some of the most overlooked aspects of their early acting careers, including a potential scam that sounds ahead of its time and a very specific event service they helped pioneer that doesn't really seem to make sense in any time period.
    This is probably the longest I've worked on a video since that Vine retrospective I made last year. Please reward my efforts by paying close attention and telling your grandparents about it when you're done.

      Isn't it? I feel awful for them. Yes they are billionaires now but what did it take for them to get there? Massive abuse, both mentally (parents forcing them to work since infancy) and most likely sexual (industry people). And money doesn't cure pain, sadness, trauma.

      And ppl actually had the nerve to comment that the twins were being "selfish" and delusional for saying they wouldn't want other kids to make a lot of money. Smh. Humans can be so ignorant. You never truly understand how a person feels unless you go through it yourself. Those poor girls.

      Honeyzy exactly, anyone that had a nice childhood would say that it’s priceless. I wouldn’t trade mine away for anything. They had to give theirs up for money and fame, and clearly (in their opinion) it wasn’t worth it. They don’t have any normal, yet amazing memories. It’s just the simple things about being a child that makes it so great, and they never had that. People put so much emphasise on how important money and fame are, yet most famous child actors say it was terrible and that they’d trade it in a second to live a nice, normal life.
      These girls had a terrible childhood, actually, they didn’t even get a childhood. Completely overworked at four years old. It’s ridiculous, same thing happened with the home alone actor. A lot of them don’t even make it into their 30s. I’ve made an effort to research all the child actors in movies I’ve watched from the 90s, and too many don’t make it. I even sadly, have predictions of actors/singers currently that are young that I don’t think will make it, Demi being one of them. It’s a sick industry, I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.
      It’s different when people enter it as an adult, they choose to make the decision, kids just follow what their parents say.

      @orchdork775 3 года назад +505

      @@teehee6372 Yea, even Drew said he isn't sure he really feels bad for the Olsen twins, because they are billionaires. How could you not feel bad for them after learning about their life and seeing how much it has affected them?? Being a billionaire can't buy you a childhood. It can't buy love or acceptance.... There is so much more than just financial problems, and I find it incredibly naive and small minded when people dismiss the idea that rich people can struggle just as much as everyone else. What if a rich person was horribly raped, and the whole reason they have so much money is from the settlement?? What if someone inherited their wealth, but their family was loveless, cruel and abusive?
      People fantasize about being rich as though that would solve all their problem, so I think they invalidate the suffering of rich people, specifically to maintain the illusion that if they could just make more money, they would be happy. At least then they have hope, though they will never truly address the cause of their unhappiness.

      The irony of that stupid song they sing here is they probably really couldn't wait until they were grown up just so they could be out of the control of their slave driver parents and agents (the same people, I'm pretty sure). I feel so gross and sad because I know all these songs by heart and was a member of that stupid Fun Club myself, I'm only a couple years younger than them and I literally wanted to be them when I was in like kindergarten and first grade. I watched all of these videos over and over and thought they had the coolest lives ever because I was a kid who couldn't tell fiction from reality. And at that same age, they were kids who had every bit of their lives controlled and didn't know anything else. I'm being super melodramatic here it might seem like, but yeah when I saw that first ever episode of fuller house, which is the only one I ever watched, where every single cast member simultaneously breaks the fourth wall to shame "Michelle" for not coming back to the show and the studio audience cheers and laughs for a literal minute straight, I'm just like... How fucking dare you.

Money cant prevent you from dying, injury, debilitating illnesses, or from family and friends dying or getting injured, or mental health problems, or addictions that harm yourself as well as relationships. Look at all the wealthy people who've committed suicide or who are bitter and lonely. Money allows you more freedom and security but it doesn't correlate with happiness or joy.

      @@jessievecchio You want them to come back to a video they commented on a year ago, then go through and watch the video to find you a timestamp, instead of you just watching the video itself or Googling it? Respectfully, do things for yourself haha. Use the time you took to comment that to find the answer instead. People do this with questions you can easily find the answer to, sometimes with questions/ideas about very important issues, it's so silly that people won't use the incredible technology we have today to learn and find it yourself instantly. It's concerning how often I see this with things that actually matter... You will absolutely be able to find the answer yourself way faster than you would waiting for someone else to do it for you 99% of the time. You're asking for someone to do the work to give you a shortcut, whether it's for a silly question or a timestamp, but it's almost never actually a shortcut for anyone involved. You probably found it right after asking. It can be Googled and the video is 23 minutes. You generally shouldn't bother people unless it can only be done/answered by them and if it's an appropriate thing for you to ask of them. I think this comes from a very similar place/attitude that trusting random strangers to hand you accurate answers to simple or important questions does. If someone can't do that for something simple or unimportant then I worry they won't for something more complicated or important. Usually, I wouldn't comment on something from over a week ago unless it's important, but you don't seem to be bothered by commenting on much older threads, and mine actually has some really great and easy advice lol.

Try being working class and see how you like that". While being poor sucks, the entire kardashian fortune could not get me to live like them. Always watched, always scrutinized, everything you do has to fit your brand. Even with those tweets in the beginning of covid of stars complaining they can't leave their billion dollar mansion, yes it was tasteless but rich people are allowed to have emotions. He said he didn’t want to do it anymore, but his father never heard him. If Richie Rich wasn’t a flop, he wouldn’t get to chance to get out from the spotlight. Being a big child star must be hard. You get treated like this and then become the example of “What’s wrong with the child stars?” I don’t even want to talk about the pedophiles in the industry. Disgusting.

      Conraderson I mean, oftentimes, trauma you experience as an adult is from situations that you’ve gotten into because of your trauma/problems from childhood, even if you don’t realize it until after. Childhood trauma leads to adults trauma which leads to new trauma. Lol. I suppose in some cases trauma can be novel, like a car accident or something, but even then, the way you respond to the car crash will be influenced by your childhood/emotional patterns. It’s an interesting question.

    Hard to feel sorry for a rich person?
    Easy, see them as humans and then you'll start to feel bad for them.
    Just don't feel bad for the ones that don't deserve it. Such as those who treat others like crap.
    The Olsen's didn't have a choice!

    I get that they’re millionaires, but I feel so sorry for them. Their childhoods were taken away from them and they didn’t get to enjoy their lives without constantly being watched, reported on and criticised. I don’t blame them for choosing to mostly avoid the spotlight now.
    I do find it quite funny that Mary-Kate and Ashley retired from acting and then their younger sister, Elizabeth, ends up starring in the highest grossing film ever and is playing the strongest character in such a brilliant and immensely popular film franchise.

      Sad, (almost) everyone deserves at least some sympathy. Reminds me of my older sister and me but the other way round. I have an abusive Muslim mother, and when my sister was young she never pressured her to wear a hijab or really do anything, now she moved out and she completely went turbo on me telling me to clean the house 24/7 (waking me up in the middle of the night), tricking and guilt-tripping me into wearing a hijab when I was seven etc
      So idk guess the parents gave her a choice to be an actor or not, when the twins didn't.

    • @Nalanzazu
      @Nalanzazu 4 года назад +275

      I remember reading or hearing somewhere one of them being interviewed about Elizabeth starting to act, and saying that shes a better actor than they ever were because she is actually passionate about it and wasn't forced to work her whole life. They were super supportive of her but it was also really depressing because they were clearly resentful that she got to be a normal kid doing what she wanted and in turn gets to be a normal adult pursuing what she wants.

    • @spitsoup911
      @spitsoup911 4 года назад +91

      I'm just kinda scared that Elizabeth could've been kinda forced too, of course she seems to extremely love acting but i wonder that If she didn't like acting, would she be forced? I heard their parents are really greedy, and if they noticed they fucjed up with the twins they probably wanted a second try, of course Elizabeth could've just liked acting and could've been inspired by her sisters, for now we can only speculate but I feel so sorry for the twins, it's hard to live like that

    There were like 40 BOOKS of the Mary Kate and Ashley series (and even more series of books) ghostwritten by some author i googled sometime in the last 2 decades about their adventures as preteen fictional versions of themselves and i owned and read and reread MOST of them. I didn't really know who or how big they were but my little brown ass IDOLIZED these pretty blonde girls on the glossy cover of the 200 page books. they might still be lying around somewhere. i then grew out of those and tried to find every movie they starred in and due to the limited internet at the time couldnt watch many or find dvd sets of the tv shows. i remember loving New York Minute and thinking they were sooo pretty and sadly recently learning more about their lives and their wiki pages some time back. it was just last year some awful clip surfaced of Oprah being nasty to these girls when they were just children on her show and it was revealed MK was already suffering from an eating disorder when Oprah (among other things) pointedly asked her about her weight or some shit when she was just a teen. good fucking god can we let child stars salvage whats left of their lives no matter how rich they made their parents?????
