Yeah, that’s actually a fair point
ellen
woah u got her good :O
why would she publicly embarrass the chinese translator and the child like that????? how is that even remotely funny????
Like, Ellen, you try and translate one language into another.
I was so glad someone was commenting this. like hello? it's a language and isn't gonna be the same length or same phrases as English. Ellen wait a fucking second.
yeah that one made my heart drop to the floor. that made me so upset
@@quinevere I know some mandarin. From what I heard the translator translated up until "now you're playing electric guitar" and just began to translate Ellen's question before she cut her off. Like wtf. Be patience, woman.
You can see the cracks in Ellen’s fake “nice” persona, her real personality slips out.
Did anyone else notice that the audience said “aww” to the painting but then abruptly started laughing almost like someone put up a laughter cue card for them? That’s toxic and mean spirited.
Good catch, it was an abrupt change in tone!
Yeah I noticed it too. “Aww that’s so cute. Oh wait are we supposed to be laughing at this? Hahahaha!”
They thought it was really cute but they're forcing them to laugh
But like honestly what was meant to be funny, I’m confused. I’ll admit I’m not the most artistic person but is that art bad? It looks good to me
It's like that clip in shrek where they held up signs that told the citizens what to do and when to do it
As an old person can I just point out that nobody ever knew how to fold a map
Lmao suspected as much
My parents always struggled with it in the car, they were so happy when digital versions came out.
my 90 year old grandma would just stuff it back into the pocket on the back side of the passenger seat of her car.
😂😂❤❤
Or if you could get it back in the right shape, it was never with the covers facing out 😂
imagine saying "he's beautiful *but* ..." to a child's mom. and on live tv. she is so bold.
And why does she think a boy can't have long hair while she is basically bald?
My best friend Matthew has hair that goes below his shoulders and he rocks it screw her shitty taste
@@Poopy1115 I’d love to see her face if she saw my ginger mop of a head with shoulder length hair hah, she might have an aneurism

The Mariah Carey thing hurt my heart, such an awful thing to do
So painful if someone wants to get pregnant but can’t and people ask them. (Or this situation, where someone has to make public they had a miscarriage.)
It’s a big violation of privacy. I know many women in my family who have had pregnancies but waited a couple months to announce it because you really never know what’s going to happen
kittypie Exactly. It is so insensitive to force someone to announce before they are ready.
kittypie - One of my dear friends got pregnant with her second child, was very excited and told everyone, and then miscarried in her 2nd-3rd month. So with her third child, she didn't tell anyone besides a couple close friends, and some family, until her 4th month. I watched my own mother go through 4 miscarriages, each time she lost the child in the first couple months. Miscarriages aren't at all uncommon, especially with women 30+, specifically in the first trimester. So lots of women don't say anything until their second trimester. To force someone into announcing it is just despicable and heartless.
Happily Explosive Given the number of times Ellen made guests uncomfortable, I suspect that there is a gap between those pre-interviews and the real ones. (It could be due to bad communication on the side of the staff.)
I can’t imagine being forced to tell that you’re pregnant in front of the whole world and then having to turn around and say that you miscarried. Miscarriage is heartbreaking enough without having a bunch of strangers know about it. That makes me the angriest out of all the things Ellen did.
She should have thrown that campaign in her face. That would have been dramatic, but so satisfying to see.
Yeah that was painful to hear, she didn’t need to coerce her into saying that but she just didn’t care about what she wanted at all
I love how the actress from 50 Shades of Gray was NOT taking Ellen's shit and called her out each time Ellen asserted something that wasn't true. But not in a rude way, or blowing up, solid standing her ground. I know next to nothing about her but I enjoyed that clip.
That actress is from a powerful family background. So maybe she is not afraid of Ellen and her influence.
@@rizwana5684 Yeah isn't her mom Melanie Griffith?
Dakota johnson?
I love that Ellen was about to say ”how do you know that?” As if she’s in disbelief that Dakota actually knew her own guest list
Dakota knows Ellen needs her now more than she needs Ellen truly
She broke character when she snapped at the interpreter, wild wild wild.
That shit had me mad af. If I was the translator I would’ve walked away and had her try and translate herself.
Funny thing is the translator was already talking at a decent pace, literally translating what Ellen had said, not diverging at from it at all.
Lusahira S my partner speaks Chinese and he said this exact same thing when I showed him the clip but I got hella mad lol. The little boy was so sweet and they both deserve better.
That part made me so mad. It was seriously so disrespectful and rude! The interpreter was nice about it but her and that boy didn't deserve that treatment.
she was being a jerk but to be honest that translator did a terrible job there, she stuttered and repeated things she already translated before...
not defending ellen, just telling the truth.
why is she laughing at a girl who can’t fold a map even older adults can’t do that
I'm not sure anyone really knows how to fold a map tbh, I think we're all just guessing
Folding a map is impossible
Nobody can. It's the same with Leaflets. Once unfolded it never goes back like before 😁
Some older adults can't even read a map. My husband works in delivery and has stories of all ages of people who can't traverse a town or map
Laura Deist nobody can fold maps. It’s impossible.
alright but as a young artist who draws portraits of celebrities/people i know irl, i would be absolutely devastated if my art was made fun of in that way. it's even worse because the painting is actually pretty amazing if you ask me?? like just look at the lighting and shadows on that skin
yeah! the detail is awesome. the proportions are just a little off, that’s the only thing that’s kind of off. Everything else is really good.
I think it was pretty good and the most adorable thing, that's why I don't like most comedians, they would do and say anything just to be funny
I did art at school and it's so much harder than people realise. I realised I'm pretty crap at painting and shadows are super hard. I agree that the painting is actually pretty good, like that's someone who's well on their way to being a great artist
That painting is actually good. It reminds me of those paintings you would see in a fancy restaurant in Hollywood.
Yeah I was like 'woah that's really good', and if you pause it, you see it's a really good likeness. I don't think the audience disliked it either they just followed ellen
I'm an artist and that painting was really well done. The artist's understanding of shades and what colours to use are amazing, the only thing was that the proportions were a bit off. That painting is definitely not something anyone could do, I can tell it takes years of learning and practice to create. And the fact she has the audacity to make fun of it in front of her audience is ridiculous to me.
My favorite was how the audience started to say "aww". They didn't hate it at first but then switched gears abruptly and started laughing when they figured out that Ellen hated it. Jesus people.
Let's not lie... it's not really well done... honestly that would have gotten torn off the wall in my first-year painting class.
But still, Ellen's reaction was horrific. The effort was there, and it was a personal gift.
@@SeraphsWitness For me, I thought it was a great painting, despite its flaws. but yes either way we both agree that ellen's reacton was horrible.
I’m curious what about the proportions is off? Not an artist and I can see it looks a little off but I don’t know exactly what. Also aren’t they a bit too orange, like the comparison with the real life Ellen’s skin tone
@@WinWinWoo From what I saw, the eyes were too big, the noses looked a bit off, and the woman right next to Ellen's body was too small compared to her head. And with the orange, I don't really know because It depends on the reference photo the painter used, but that's just what I saw.
If Ellen is so impatient with the translator, why doesn't she know Chinese
That’s was really devious and to have her backed turned to the translator only to cut her off
and the translator is translating exactly what she's saying
@@tzhou1272 I thought she was trying to explain what ellen was saying so the kid could understand better. I felt bad when she apologized :(
Fr, sentences in English are not the same length as other languages, I know this, being the weeb I am- so the girl didn't even do anything wrong and it piSseS mE OfF-
icry ;-; ikr! I’m italian and it takes so much longer to say something in Italian and like half the speed in english
She's frustrated by a *child* who doesn't speak English while she herself, a middle-aged woman has never made an effort to learn another language.
she doesnt even speak english well what with all the stuttering, pauses and repeating herself. not that that at all is a bad thing but then she shouldn't be annoyed with someone else when her viewers have to sit painfully through her own speech issues
But this is an American show, so they should be speaking English and no other language is necessary.
@@uniboy13 then why did they invite someone who they KNEW didnt speak english onto the show? cause the kid didnt invite himself.
Uniboy 13 American? As in a show based in America? Because there are PLENTY of “American” shows in America that aren’t in English. Not only that, but English isn’t even the official language for the U.S., so it’s not exactly necessary, more so common. I’m Hispanic and watch a bunch of shows that take place in the U.S. that are in Spanish. Just because it’s “American”, doesn’t mean it *has* to be in English.
Uniboy 13 You know guests don’t just will themselves into teleporting on stage right? They’re invited. You don’t learn an entirely new language as a child for a guest appearance on a fucking daytime talk show.
JB if you ever see this- don't stop creating. The act of taking care and love to create something into existence is precious. I'm so sorry she was mean and I hope you're doing ok.
Love you for talking directly to JB. And then have that woman you idolize mock your affection in public television must have been nothing short of devastating. I hope they’re doing ok.

i’m asian and that translator scene really pissed me off. ellen didn’t even try to hide frustration and straight up demanded the girl to hurry up. i can’t believe she didn’t get called out sooner
Honestly, I’m not Asian myself but I had times where I had to translate things from my own language to other people and it infuriates me whenever they’re acting I’m saying something entirely different, in some languages, some words are just longer to say rather than in English, and I’ve learned a few mandarin words and they honestly are longer than the English language so it honestly pissed me off when Ellen just blatantly ignored that English and mandarin are different in so many ways.
The way Ellen constantly mocks people who have accents is disgusting. Bold of her when she only speaks *one* language 😒
Personally, I know this exact feeling. I have a very thick southern accent. Everyone teased me for it, claiming that I was a hick and a bumpkin. I’m now in college on my way to my doctorates, and I know 2 languages and am learning my 3rd.
I hate people who only speak one language mocking other people because they have an accent in THEIR language. Ellen is a Karen
Fr, i dont have an accent but people go around calling me a n@zi for coming from Germany, and its not even a good insult?!?!
ByuBio ok but as a fellow southern person i worked hard to hide mine bc they're gross and annoying lol
Right? I love languages - pretty good in Spanish and thinking of learning Japanese - and while I'd love to get better I know for a fact (and have been told) that I have an accent in my Spanish and that's likely how it's always going to be somewhat. Nothing wrong with it and considering we Americans seem to expect people the world over to learn our language (and not the other way around) the least we could do is be more polite and understanding if someone's English isn't 100% perfect and clear at all times. 🙄

To this day ellen making fun of her fans painting is one of the most despicable things i have ever seen. Its oil paint, its blended well and obviously has love put into it. Im disgusted and enraged that anyone has enough of an ego to publicly make fun of art MADE FOR THEM on television.
her comments towards Celine Dion's son's hair are truly gross. You'd think a lesbian woman wouldn't shame a boy for being non conforming. she's weird AF.
A lesbian woman with a short mop of hair on her head nonetheless
@Cherry Mae Raviz no dude you're getting it wrong. She is saying that the boy should have short hair cause thats a "gender role" when she "isn't following her gender role" . She is a hypocrite

I can’t get over how rude she was to that interpreter, like why don’t you go to school and learn to interpret yourself ?!
I know, she was like enunciating like "what. else. does. he. like?" like sorry bitch, every language's sentences don't have matching lengths. Some things require more words in other languages. It's like being upset at your spanish translator that "buenos dias" has one more syllable than "good morning"
As a person that fluently speaks two languages I can tell you translating live is REALLY hard. You can't just translate literally as most of the time it would make absolutely no sense. You constantly have to think of what the best way to translate a sentence would be and what to say. I can't even imagine having to do all of that while being live in front of thousands of people and even more behind a television. Ellen was being very rude there
@@pawelodziomek4908honestly, like I would be translating things to my grandmother who’s English is very poor and that’s already stressful enough to make sure I tell her the correct things so I’m really proud of the interpreter for being able to translate in front of a live audience. So it really pissed me off when Ellen would blatantly ignore the stressful situation of being able to translate English to Chinese mandarin. And it also seemed that the interpreter was also somewhat starting her 20’s so of course her Chinese wouldn’t be as professional as a professional translator. I’m really proud of her tbh💓
i’ve been reading the comments for a while, and i’m surprised nobody has brought up the time ellen had a slideshow of every guy taylor swift had been seen with, and taylor was almost in tears yelling to stop it, while the audience and ellen kept laughing!! i felt so bad for taylor swift
That's fucked. Her audience seems horribly toxic, too. They are all that one friend's mom everyone hates, who acts like everyone's mom (including the neighborhood and the school staff). Angry venomous WASPs. Some of the shots of the audience remind me of the reptile bar scene from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The movie sure, but mainly Ralph Steadman's artistic depiction in the book. Gruesome. Faces like cruel pre-avian predators, laughing at someone being mean to others and lapping it up like blood
I get a strong "hates their life and in deep denial about it, takes it out passive aggressively, and probably buys at least two boxes of wine a week on top of the Xanax prescription they pay a private doctor out of pocket to write without medical need" from that crowd.
Yess that clip infuriated me. Taylor was literally begging her to stop it and she just kept doing it while everyone laughed. I would hate her if I was Taylor
I found one other comment about it and yeah, it was really awful. That's what put me off her before knowing everything else and also made me more of a Taylor Swift fan. Her music isn't entirely to my taste all the time, but I like HER
Not a Taylor swift fan, but that was bs.
The weird part about the vintage tools bit is like... did it take the people who grew up using them 60 seconds to figure it out?
She didn’t even try to hide being frustrated with the translator. Most languages don’t have logical word-for-word translations of others. Chinese is one that can be especially tricky to translate back and forth, so no shit there’s going to be some interpretations that the translator will have to think about to make the translation understandable to him.
And the translator doesn’t know what he know so she has to go through the full context
RIGHT it’s like she thinks that all languages follow the same syntax and grammar... it’s so much more difficult to translate languages seamlessly, especially a more complex language like Mandarin. her behavior was repulsive.
And Chinese is a very hard language to learn/speak compared to English
The audacity she has to get mad at the translator just made my blood boil, they were just doing their job...idk
Right! She has to translate from English to Mandarin and vice versa - two very different languages - on top of trying to put it in a way that the kid can understand. She's so bitter...
And it's a little kid to boot, so she's having to keep that in mind aswell... Has to be on a level that he understands

I feel so bad for Mariah. There's a reason why most people wait for at least the first 12 weeks of pregnancy to go by before telling anyone - there's a ~20% risk of miscarriage in the early stage.
When I was pregnant and word got out too soon, I was anxious for the first 3 months, knowing that there's a plausible chance that I at some point might have to inform everyone that things didn't work out. And that would've affected only 20 people. I don't want to know how it felt like to inform the whole world about something like that.
Ugh the situation with the artwork really rubbed me wrong...my senior year of high school I painted something for a teacher who was really a positive influence on my life. In his classroom he had gifts from other students already, and my thought process was like 'well, he doesn't have to hang this up, I just want to let him know I appreciate him.' I gave it to him before winter break and he said he loved it. I got a hug. I felt satisfied that I'd done something for a person I looked up to. For all I know, he could have been lying about liking the painting, and that would be totally fine as long as he keeps it to himself. What matters is that he never took my artwork, showed it to the class and went 'how lame is this? It looks bad! c'mon, agree with me!' I think rejection like that would have destroyed me emotionally lol. I really hope the fan who made the painting didn't see that episode, or at least that it didn't bother them. That's such a mean thing to do, especially on live TV :(
The Mariah Carey thing is absolutely despicable. You never do this to a woman... EVER. You have no idea what she could be going through - a pregnancy, a miscarriage, infertility. Dear God. She should have been cancelled that day.
And everyone waits 3 months because the first trimester’s when miscarriages r most frequent. What she did was evil.
I gasped when I watched that clip, HOW WAS THAT ALLOWED
I honestly didn't expect it to be so blatant. Like, I thought there was gonna be more pretence than "I'm not gonna ask you if you're pregnant, I'm just gonna bring it up and then force you to turn down this champagne I'm shoving in your face!"

About her roasting the painting made by her fan - a few years ago when i started posting my art online, one of the things that kept me motivated was my idol (aka a person whos characters i was drawing) leaving comments under my post and being v nice and kind. I used to be very insecure so it was a huge boost.
Saying all that - if he instead started insulting me or made fun of my work on his story on ig or anywhere else i'd probably never draw again and completly stop posting all together (might seem like an overreaction to you but i was young and v insecure and i can only hope that the artist who made Ellen that drawing didn't take what she said to heart and is still painting cuz that picture was actually very good when it comes to realistic art style :)))

It looks like Ellen is the anti-Conan. Conan plays this really obnoxious, narcissistic bully on his programs, but when they get real for a second on his podcast his assistent always mentions what a generous guy he is to all of his staff.
Yes, like how he prides himself as being “the cruel city slicker,” as he put it with Jack McBrayer, but it’s obvious he’s good in his heart. Jack and others have stuck close to him all these years for a reason. Ellen always came off as uninteresting and cold to me

Considering ellen is trying to be funny but made it a little offensive.
Although that girl was not the best translator, I'm sure the show payed her to translate fast. What she did was saying a bunch of run-on sentences which she should do that in her head first. That would considered as unprofessional and waste of time. (I understand both English&Mandarin)

I would cry if my coworker cut me off like that during a meeting, setting aside the fact he was on a live tv show
I speak mandarin and she was literally translating it correctly, why did ellen have to accuse her like “it’s just ONE question why are you talking so much”. The translator wasn’t?? The painting wasnt even bad too. She acted like it was chicken scratch.
Look in all fairness, that painting is pretty mediocre at best, if the artist cant acknowledge that or have a sense of humour about it, he or she is not gonna get much better at it. You gotta have a sense of humor about yourself, if only to accept your own flaws.
@@helenomstreken7577 I don't think the issue is how good she thought it was but more of the fact that she made fun of it on national television. Constructive criticism is great, and there's nothing wrong with cracking a few jokes, but I think it would've been fine if she joked directly with the artist off screen rather than shooting it down in front of an audience.
As an artist who likes creating fanart as well, it hurt me so much. This is my worst nightmare: the person who I look up to shaming a painting/a drawing that I made for them. Whenever people don't understand why it's so hard to be open with your art, especially with your fanart this is the perfect example to show how vulnerable it is. I’m not Chinese, nor am I fluent in it. However I did learn Mandarin for 7 years (it was a required subject at my old school before I moved), and I’m sure the translator was translating it exactly what Ellen said. It really pisses me off when people assume other languages are the same length as English when that’s not the case.
I’m not fluent in Chinese but I’m familiar with the structure and some words. Here’s why what Ellen did was especially messed up.
The translator was starting with the first question since the second one was a follow-up to it. That meant repeating the names of the instruments, which are western, so the translation involves a sound-for-sound deconstruction that can lengthen certain syllables.
Additionally, the second question is also more complex than in english-the structure is “subject preposition verb” so it would have the same conciseness of “you additionally would like to learn what?”
Put that together and it sounds long because of all the sounds she’s making, but it’s really just a simple translation.
What a jerk.
You’d think that as a gay woman who once had to fight for acceptance, that she would be more accepting and compassionate toward others.
I guess it just demonstrates that you can either grow from pain or use it to fuel your ego and just become a total asshole
She used to be the face of fighting for acceptance! Growing up gay over ten years ago, everything gay rights related had Ellen's face all over it

@@needmeachillplaylistforstu3495 uh, that's kinda fucked up to say... I'm a gay white guy dating a Mexican American. Base people off of their personality please. I should know considering I grew up in a homophobic racist religious family, and had to deal with it for years. I had to fight my way out of a shit upbringing and learn to be a good person myself, only to be put into a basket just hurts. I'm sorry if I over reacted, but your comment just came off as kinda ignorant and hateful. I get what you're saying, a decent amount of white people can be ignorant and hypocritical and hateful, and minorities certainly need to be heard, but this isn't a good way to go about it.

Translating is one of the most mentally taxing professions, delegates will bring a team of translators because there is a law saying you can't make some one translate for more than a certain amount of time, half a hour of translating will exhaust a person for an entire day, I can't believe how Ellen treated that poor translator. :(

I’m honestly surprised Drew didn’t bring up the time when Ellen made Taylor Swift cry, it’s insane what she got away with
I’ve heard other commenters talk about this, and I’m tempted to look up what they’re talking about, but I don’t think I’d be able to handle witnessing someone being so mean to another person. It’s crazy how some can do that kind of thing, push boundaries, CLEARLY make others uncomfortable and straight up upset, and not even feel a little bad. It’s crazy.
@@ASweetShortCake it’s hard to watch, that’s for sure, she gets so fed up with Ellen that she just starts to cry, it shouldn’t have been aired but Ellen loves to use people :/
@@ASweetShortCake I made the mistake and went and looked it up, it's hard to watch. You can tell the whole time that Taylor is trying to be a "good sport" by laughing along at certain points, but every time she very seriously said that she wasn't comfortable with it or didn't want to do it - which was MULTIPLE times - Ellen ignored her. I couldn't fathom being in that position.
I'm surprised at the lack of mention of harassing people with phobias (or just flat out jumpscaring people in general, I think one celeb was on her third visit, had literally begged her not to do it anymore, and they jumped her *in the bathroom/dressing room* ?)
to be fair, it's further down the totem pole of horrific shit she's done to her guests and staff, but I figured it bare mentioning.
Dakota Johnson putting her foot down and telling Ellen she’s wrong to her face is so good. I used to work at a holiday park and I still have most of the drawings the kids gave me, even the ones that are just scribbles on a post it note. The fact that they liked me enough to want to give me some art was always so touching.
I worked for several years out of high school as an instructional aide for 2nd graders, plus one summer as a 2nd grade camp counselor. I have a scrapbook of every card, drawing, and craft the kids ever gifted me, as well as a box with all the little trinkets they'd give me like marbles, shells, and bracelets. Even if that painting wasn't done by a child, it still clearly took an incredible amount of time and effort, plus the cost of the supplies, and it's actually quite good, I couldn't fathom being as unkind as Ellen was about such a thoughtful gift.
honestly, as a fine arts student who mainly does realism, the painting was pretty good. it's not a masterpiece, shre, but the colors are super nice, textures are well-drawn, lighting isn't bad... like, yeah, the proportions are a bit off, but that is a very good artwork.
fr it wasn't even bad. I'm also saying this as an artist
Ellen’s like the girl in the class who outs you before you’re ready
That’s insanely accurate. She’s a lesbian, so you’d think she’d understand that some people really don’t want to open up about the personal things that are going on with there life, especially the things that they don’t want a whole audience of people to know. I’m gay and I refuse to try to pressure anyone else to come out just for my enjoyment, considering the fact that I know how it feels to have to hide very personal information about myself.

About the pregnancy that was particularly crumby. My mom had a miscarriage then a very difficult pregnancy with my older brother. My parents told NO ONE when they were pregnant with me until 5 months along because they genuinely had no clue what would happen with me. Thankfully I was easy but damn no one needs to know that shit.
Wow, that's really intense. You're absolutely right, it's up to the mom to pick a good time to reveal the news! When she was talking to the translator it was like do you not realize that different languages can have different words than English so she had to think more carefully about translating what’s being said? And just because it’s talking someone longer to translate doesn’t necessarily mean their not saying the exact words your saying. AND THEIR OWN NATIONAL TV. How nerve wracking . As well as the way she interrupted the little boy like that!?
The translator actually said the context before the immediate question, because while Ellen's speech is linked, the translator's part isn't
also some languages sentences are longer when saying the same thing. Someone could ask me, "What's your favorite cake flavor?" and in English I would just say "chocolate" or "chocolate cake" but if it was a Spanish conversation I would say, "Pastel de chocolate". Or in French instead of saying 1997 you'd be like "mille neuf cent quatre-vingt-dix-sept". Like not every language is structured like English, Ellen. Read a book.
She's a typical Karen
