I’ve had magnaflows as well as flowmasters. Both have their place but you have to be patient with a magnaflow. It took about 3 months on my Tahoe but after it broke in the sound was second to none. Passing on the interstate became my favorite activity and it was still quiet in the neighborhood.
I hear that from a few people. The thing is I dreamed and anticipated it to be something soon as I got it installed 😬😬. The flowmaster fx catback I have now turned out perfect tho
Yeah thats true.i put a single Magnaflo on my 05 Ford F150 and it took a minute for it to,"cook thru" the roving fiberglass inside the case and after that,it started to sound loud and deeper than the Flowmaster.
Flowmasters are just empty cans with baffles so youll get that louder cracky sounds with them, certain mangaflows have steel mesh like steel wool and fiberglass in them so it takes alot of that out but at the same time the good sound as well. You might want to look at a magnaflow magnapack which doesnt muffle it so much and is a more agressive sound.
This is a great video as it truly does confirm the claim that "Magnaflo is indeed quiet compared to the Flowmaster. I am going to proceed with my purchase of Master Flow FX as it's not too loud and not too quite but is perfect as it provides a deep rich V8 sound once you "really" step on the gas pedal.

Put a magnaflow magnapack on much more free flowing than flowmaster and much more refined sound. Plus it don't drone as bad and doesn't rust out as quick. I've had flowmaster 40's 44's and 10's, regular magnaflows, spintech, dynomax bullets and borlas. The only one that can compare to the magnapacks that I've had was the borlas but they are also a lot more money. Also if you do duals I found an x pipe works best with straight through mufflers like magnapacks and a h pipe works good with chambered mufflers like flowmaster.
I had a Flowmaster on my last pickup and I just bought a 23 Tacoma with the TRD exhaust system and I’m going back to the Flowmaster FlowFX dual exhaust system. It just sounds better.
I just received a Borla ATAK muffler for my 2021 GMC Sierra AT4 (6.2L). Gonna leave the resonators on. If I don't think it sounds right...with take the resonators off. That stock 45" long muffler is huge. And that flapper valve is coming off too. What purpose does it serve anyways?
I have magnaflows on my Honda Accord and after like two years they are both splitting at the seams . I couldn’t imagine putting them on my truck , they’d probably explode lol . Flowmaster s are what’s going on my truck once I decide it get it done .
Apples to oranges. Flow master is always more aggressive due to baffles. When it ages, and the baffle welds let loose, ya get the nice rattle and clanging sound too. Makes your ride sound real shhty. Magnaflow takes time to develop sound and is always more rumble. Get louder over time. Mangaflow does make louder mufflers. Flowmaster is the exhaust that will make a stock vehicle sound tough even though it’s not, and they’re easy to spot. Sounding tough and being tough, well you get it. My magnaflow sound woke up when the headers were installed. Best part is I don’t have ear plugs in my cab or the shhty drone sound at 75mph.
Hey bro try a flowmaster fx muffler not the round bullet ones the ones that look like a 40 series u will love it not loud and aggressive just deep they cost about 40-60 depending where u purchase
Flowmaster chambered mufflers are straight up power killers. If you don't care about power go ahead and get a 40 series or whatever tin can. Magnaflow takes alittle time to break in for the sound. Flowmaster is just a tin can with walls inside so there isn't a break in period.

Ahhh yes, I’m learning more about that now. At first buy I didn’t have the patience to wait on the magnaflo to kick in because I waited so long to hear that growl I was use to. Check out my new install, thanks for watching
You have to be careful with Chevy's and what muffler you choose. Think of Flowmasters as a muffler with baffles designed to produce certain frequencies of sounds. Think of Magnaflows as a filter that filters out the unwanted highs and certain mids, leaving you with the deep rumble. With the new engines that have Dynamic Fuel Management, it's even more crucial to pick the correct muffler. The DFM shuts down cylinders when the engine is under light load/cruising speeds. When it does this, it can dramatically change the frequencies produced by the mufflers. Flowmasters are notorious for producing a very annoying droning sound in the cab when the DFM kicks in and the muffler starts producing higher frequencies. I had a 2017 Silverado which had flowmaster 40s and would do this. When the engine kicked into fewer cylinders being used, there was this droning sound in the cab that was extremely irritating. I also had a 2018 Sierra with magnaflows and it did not have the droning sound. In this new body style, you also have to take the flapper valve(s) into consideration. Especially with flowmasters, cutting out the flapper will almost certainly cause the cab droning. Of course, most people want the flapper gone to have less restriction. The droning will also happen with the shorter length magnaflows if you remove the flapper. From the research I've been able to do on this topic, removing the flapper will not create the bad droning in the cab once you get into the larger length magnaflow mufflers. The Magnaflow 12589 (22 inch) appears to be the best at allowing you to get rid of the flapper and not have to worry about droning. Of course, your other option is to do a complete catback exhaust swap, which is tuned for your specific truck/engine and you don't have to worry about it, but a lot of people aren't wanting to spend up to $2K or more for an exhaust. If you have the flowmaster flowFX you definitely want to leave the flapper in because the people that removed it with that muffler later regret it because of the droning when the DFM kicks in.
Great info, broski. Question, my 2017 Chevy Silverado 6.2 doesn’t have the dfm, I believe. I like Flowmaster, I’ve put them on my Caprices and Silverados. Flowmaster with flap? Or Magnaflow?

Chambered muffler always sounds better on a stock exhaust. The catalytic converters disrupt the exhaust pulses, so a chambered muffler brings them back. A straight through muffler only quiets the sound post cats. Straight through mufflers sound good with no cats, and really good with an aftermarket camshaft, which really increases exhaust notes.

The only good sounding muffler that Magnablow makes is the Magnapack, all their others suck as far as sound goes. You also could've swapped the 40 Series for a 50 if you wanted to tame it down a bit and still have a rumble.
Magnaflow Street mufflers are a rip-off and you might as well keep it stock. Flowmaster Super 50 series or the quieter Flowmaster Super HP-2 would of been way better.
@@JOHNNYUPLOADZ Flowmaster was on to something by developing a straight through muffler that would basically rival the SLP Loudmouth2s, Borla S-Types, Magnaflow Magnapacks, and Pypes M80S. Nothing sounds better than magnaflow.
I just got magnaflow 12468. It's identical to the stock muffler. I have big regrets.
My magnaflow got installed today. Garbage. The factory exhaust was louder.
Yea man that’s crazy, what kind of truck you have?
@@JOHNNYUPLOADZ 2007 dodge. Headers tuned up. No rev limiter no speed limiter. No cats. True dual system. I had a cherry bomb elite and switched to magnaflow. I lost power and a great throaty sound. I will never run magnaflow again. I had the cherry bomb for 10 years but the pipes finally broke off. Now I need to turf this magnaflow and buy another cherry bomb elite. I like sound. It's a shame to throw out a brand new muffler but that's the way the cookie crumbles.
@@rippertrain ouch! Yea man I feel you on that. I still have the magnaflo attached the oem pipes in my garage. I replaced it with flowmaster fx catback.
the 40 series flowmaster is a little louder but the 50 series flowmaster is more tolerable
Magnaflow hands down
Magnaflow you have to give a while for them to break in and they will get a little louder. Flowmaster is too loud and has too much drone.
Yea that’s what I’ve been hearing. I think I replaced them a month later 🙃😆
@@JOHNNYUPLOADZ I’ve had both and would rather have magnaflow. Just my personal preference.
Hey Johnny which flowmaster did you have on your black Silverado? Original 40 series or the Super 40
Maybe the 11229 3" in/out would sound better, especially after break in. Have Mag's on my GXP 5.3 GP and they have me spoiled. That's what's going on my 5.3 Trail Boss. No exceptions. LoL
Yea I definitely got the wrong model, I went in for - a specific model and they sold me something else. I have a FX catback now, sound perfect
Trucks are supposed to be loud
You should have gone with Flowmaster series 50. You would have found that sweet sound you were looking for !
Yes I did! Check out my video after this, I installed Flowmaster FX catback, thanks!
The resonators make it quieter.
The only good sounding muffler that Magnablow makes is the Magnapack, all their others suck as far as sound goes. You also could've swapped the 40 Series for a 50 if you wanted to tame it down a bit and still have a rumble.
That’s what I was told later. I still have it in my garage. I have the flowmaster FX catback now, it sounds mean
Why did you block out your wheels with a smiley face?? Lol
Borla touring!
Ive heard about that. I'm gonna eventually try it
Borla ProXS, Borla XR1, Dynomax UltraFlo
I know those would sound 🦾🦾🦾
If you want loud, then go with Corsa Extreme or Borla Atak. That'll definitely wake up the neighbors 🙄🤣
Shit yea but I don’t need that loud. I installed the flowmaster fx catback now. Check out the vid, they are perfect without pissing off neighbors 😁
Not a fan of magnaflow. They're not bad, just not for me.
Understood, Im a flowmaster fan....
Lol yeah they pretty much have the IT factor
Buddy you have to delete the third cat with Magnaflow
Glad you got the money to waste doing this so I know to spend nothing and just leave it alone!
Good ol Taylor Muffler hahahahaha
😂 you already know
Mgnaglows suck ive had both flowmaster and magna flow and flowmaster sounds way more agressive because they have no packing unlike the magnaflow
Magnaflow Street mufflers are a rip-off and you might as well keep it stock. Flowmaster Super 50 series or the quieter Flowmaster Super HP-2 would of been way better.
Yes, I agree. I did a video on the flowmaster FX catback I have now. Its been the perfect balance for me.
@@JOHNNYUPLOADZ Flowmaster was on to something by developing a straight through muffler that would basically rival the SLP Loudmouth2s, Borla S-Types, Magnaflow Magnapacks, and Pypes M80S. The Flowmaster Flow FXs are cheaper than all these mufflers yet are on the same decibel level as the more expensive SLP Loudmouth2s and Borla S-Types but quieter than Magnaflow Magnapacks and Pypes M80s. They are a very new product and have been engineered to sound better than most of these with a perfect balance.
@@lanewarriorillridez3739 Yes, and I was able to install it myself at home. First time, it’s been solid.
Try 10416 magnaflow
Clamp them instead of welding.
Yes I clamped my flowmaster fx catback after removing the magnaflo
I doubt anyone's critique that can't even spell correctly.
Sorry I missed it, what did I misspell?
@@JOHNNYUPLOADZ Just messing a bit with you man, but it's Magnaflow. Lol.
@@michaelspizzirri4079 Man I feel like an Idiot. All this time went by, I usually triple check everything. Thanks for the heads up, FIXED.
Try the wicked flow kamikaze
Damn that name sound interesting enough, ok thanks!
I got those rims on my tahoe 22"
😎😎
Made same mistake went from magnaflow to flowmaster
Drive the stew out of it and get the muff hot the run a water hose up it
I don’t know about that then, I switched out for a catback couple weeks later. Check it out on my channel, thanks
@@JOHNNYUPLOADZ lol I’ve done it to glasspacks. Don’t know if magnaflow are glass or steel wool packed but it is what it is. Checking out other bud now. Great content!
Magnaflow sounds like stock
Stock sounded better!
Yes, it Did. Now I have this Flowmaster FX Catback
Tires too loud, exhaust too loud.. dang just go get a Honda Ridgeline..
Nah I’m good I was able to buy exactly what I needed to modify the truck to my preferences, just like every other guy.
Should’ve just straight piped it foo it sounds way better! Trust I got my 2021 trail boss true dual with straight pipes
You right! Next time I will straight pipe it for sure
I replaced this with a flowmaster fx catback, it’s cool for now
All that money wasted could of got cutouts
Right, I know now
Magnaflow is absolute fucking trash, mine as well just keep your stuff stock.
Carven.
Nope Mags suck I have no idea why people like them
its all the same yall. $250,000 sports cars sound like $250,000 dollar cars. a truck with pipes will usually sound like just another truck with pipes. anything loud is mostly annoying to the rest of the universe and only impresses you. Weve all been there depending on our ages, but usually you grow out of it. get what sounds good to you, try to keep the sound semi classy and thats it. super 40s, and 40s in general are so generic sounding its comical.
Hahaha yes I agree with you 1000%🤣
Exhaust sounds like crap.... get borla i have that on my truck.. I get compliments all the time
I know the borla is Baddass - I installed flowmaster catback
Well change it... don't go ta cryin😭
keep the factory cadalitic converter, but run with no muffler. 👍
