Waiting a whole year for this to come out was sooooo worth it!! I was honestly a bit surprised that it was a whole hour long but I mean come on shittalking an Eminem album for one album just goes to show you how awful it is and I especially agree with the part where you said it induced a reverse negative reaction in comparison to tpab. Even as someone who was familiar with practically everything mentioned about Em here, the 30 minute build up to the main topic by talking about how good this guy was once made the whole thing even more amazing. Also I'm gonna clip that part of you rapping over the freestyle towards the end and send it to every person I know

You know you're grasping at straws to dislike an album when your critique boils down to "the hooks repeats words" and "why does this light-hearted song have a Batman sample." Genuinely one of the most petty takes I've seen of The Eminem Show.

I'm really surprised you didn't have anything to say about "Darkness" on Music to be Murdered By. His slower flow and phrasing into a coherent double-narrative was super refreshing after so many singles of rhyming a lot without any real substance. I like the idea of a song showing the parallels of a person like Eminem, who has written countless murder ballads to prove that he has some violent anger issues, is sympathetic to people who snap like the shooter in Las Vegas. And it's not depicted in some cheesy horrorcore sense, but as vulnerable and dramatic, giving me the impression that Eminem was being genuine. Of course there are still a lot of puns and cheesy references, they didn't overshadow how impressed I was that Marshall was messing with those kind of coherent storytelling concepts while also touching on an issue that's worth being serious about.

I definitely agree that Revival really made me reflect on Em's older work and reevaluate it for myself, and around 2016-19 most of my Eminem ratings on RYM dropped about 1 star on average from where they were in 2013 when I first listened to his discography (I used to looove Encore and Relapse lmao). That being said, the songs I consider to be his best still hold up for me, and I still consider SSLP and MMLP to be great albums even if they have some truly awful songs.

I'm glad people are still talking about this album! Honestly, i'm one of the few freaks that somehow doesn't really like alot of em's music but absolutely LOVES revival. It's very difficult for me to describe how this suddenly clicked with me but i still very much acknowledge how crudely made this is. The lyrics are bad, the production and mixing choices are baffling, and it seems like i should hate it... but for some reason it works for me! This feels more genuine than his other past works to me, and the dumb party tracks are just funny as hell to me. Revival has gone from me hating it, to somewhat admiring it, to this being maybe one of my favorite hip hop albums of all time!

As a huge rap and eminem fan I was intrigued by this video because I agree that revival was a really bad album and was wondering what this random person thinks 4 years later. But instead I am 15 minutes of an hour long video not going over the reason I clicked this video lmao. Dont get me wrong, I enjoy going over ems discography and a bunch of other artists. Its just disappointing to see how most of these takes are preetybad. Dont get me wrong, things that involve your opinion like beat production, content on a song, lyricism, etc. Is fine even if I dont agree with most of it. But when you bring up for example his choice on hooks for TES and judging them because they say the same words as the song title... Wow you must really not like a majority of music dude. Not to mention that the SSLP does the same thing on most of the songs. The album you said was his best piece of work. Which I highly disagree with. I honestly cant care enough to continue the video 24 mins in. And I know you dont care that im not which is fine ofc lol. I personally would love to have a debate, although Im not a genius or big intellect with music production. I love going into lyrics and finding the wordplay, meaning, etc.
Im not gonna make this comment drag any longer, but I really never have heard a person thats not really at all a big fan of em good takes. CDTV Productions just an example is someone I give big props for. He stays unbiased while also being a fan of so much music. I respect it. But shit like this? Its not good.

I just disagree with MMLP and TES comments, I think they're easily the best Eminem albums. I do agree to an extent that SSLP is his most cohesive and it feels like a character study the most whilst MMLP and TES are more all over the place, but I just think the best songs on MMLP and TES are way better with next to zero skips. Even though songs like The Way I Am aren't relatable, they're extremely well done, and the "My Name Is" line more highlights how he felt when after Steve Berman skit, which emphasizes the fact that the album didn't ride that line between 50% cartoony and 50% gory, but more of a 40-60. Sometimes even 80-20 like Kim. Studio wanted another "My Name Is" and he didn't really feel like he could top it, but he obviously did.
TES I think is his best. I disagree with the hooks complaint, they aren't like GREAT hooks, but they didn't need to be. The only hook I genuinely dislike is Square Dance hook which is just annoying. Superman is catchy as hell, Business and Without Me are imo his best singles in terms of bops, White America is probably my favorite opener in an Eminem album, Say Goodbye Hollywood, whilst it does have a lazy hook, doesn't take me out of the song. Soldier is top 5 Eminem, I love this song. Till I Collapse is a magnum opus, easily the best track on the album. I've seen people complaining about Sing For the Moment's sampling, but I dunno, I don't think it's terrible, it certainly doesn't make me think less of a song.
I think even some sillier songs like Drips and My Dad's Gone Crazy are fun as hell with some occasionally great lyrics. TES is honestly in my top 5 albums and top 3 hip hop albums period, I really love it. MMLP would land somewhere in my top 10 hip hop albums.
Although yeah, Revival is trash, genuinely irredeemable and I will never forgive him for following up MMLP2 with that hunk of shit

    8:02
    I disagree tho
    9:54
Marshall Mathers was about people coming at him just cause his famous
And I think your critique of MMLP is shit and uninformed tho-i think this is one of the reasons this "music commentators” age is def one of the worst ages for music ..cause there's this thing people do about takin just a particular aspect of a piece and simplifying it as if such thoughtless summary represent the piece
MMLP was a perfect storm of controversy, cartoon zanyness, childish crassness, personal tragedy, well written storytelling, and self referential reflection of the zeitgeist, all mixed into a vessel that was palatable to white America and yet be seen as credible to the Hip Hop community; Kids were attracted to the Real Slim Shady's shenanigans, Drug Ballad made laughs, and Kill You freaked out our parents, but it was songs like Stan and The Way I Am that showed a generation that this wasn't just a novelty, and led many to becoming real Hip Hop heads.
But above all else its an off the rails crazy ride. Soundtracked by Dre, Em, and The Bass Bros funkiest and most thumping beats. Some may say that this hasn't aged well, but its not like this was acceptable 20 years ago. It was always indefensible yet undeniable. A way to experience vicariously the dark and twisted avenues of the mind.
MMLP is a statement in the extremes of the human psyche.
And Em had a way with wordplay and flow, making art out of something that would have been otherwise written off as only shock value. Em was in top form, making the insane sound playful and fun. Its one of the most impactful albums in Hip Hop history.
Many times this album gets written off as just a shock rap album, but to me it's much more than that, it was vicious criticism of the hipocrisy of pop culture blaming too many times music and other art forms for violence around the world but never the direct responsible, and the people around that violent person, this album encouraged people to always be themselves no matter how "cringe" they might be, it is a very intelligent written album that captured perfectly Em's life in 2000 and the state of pop culture that year. One of the most influential albums in hiphop history that influenced the most influential hiphop artists of the 2010s, people like Kendrick, J Cole, Odd Future (though they were more influenced by Relapse) etc. So to me this is one of the greatest hiphop albums of all time and by far Em's masterpiece. MMLP only happened once and we shall never see an album like it ever again. Plus, these "dated" arguments hod zero weight.. it's just to do with perspective-I could argue that what makes MMLP great is it's “datedness”; if you want a snapshot of the tumult of the 2000s, MMLP is a musical time capsule of that time.
Kendrick Lamar's DAMN and MMBS and TPAB's cultural references would sound dated in 50 years from now.. cause that's the point, they're made in the era they're made in.. like red is a color, water is wet, music is a type of music.
In addition,MMLP would certainly still hit today, yes, even 10 times more. I remember once I played Kim for my homeboys who's into Berserk and Attack on Titan gore ish.. first dude was stretched out in shock.. second was like "tf are you listening to”.. I mean, Gen Z found the line about" tie her to the bed and set this house on fire”.. and they lost it.. a song on an album ... Recovery.. Or the reaction to the Ariana concert reference.
Now imagine hearing the first lines from MMLP
    Kim also had emotional depth.
The Way I Am had an interplay of personal and social commentary
I'm back and Amityville aren't Horrocore.
Gosh, this is the worst NPC critique I've ever seen lol
    12:25
Amityville's beat is a good match
    15:55
    1. Sing for the moment is great what you sayin
    2. What exactly you mean by ”tacky”??
I honestly feel people use buzzwords to paste unto stuff when they can't make a cogent and strong enough critique
    3. Repeatin the title of the song is what artists used to do hooks of course.
    Like "We Gon be alright!!!’??
    16: 16
I disagree, White America's hook complimented the rage of the song very well
    20:43
It just means Relapse aged well that's all
Also, the accents were used to highlight the serial character Eminem was used to play
    27:15
Rapgod was basically Em arguing why he's of course..a "rap god"
Also, That line def went over your head.
    28:36
Survival was meant to sound commercial.
Evil Twins was a merge of Slim and Marshall.
And taking just one line to critique a whole song is probably on the low effort attempts for a channel that props up itself as a music analysis channel.
Rapgod was Eminem doin an argument for a place in the rapgod.
    35:38
"Relationship is hanging by a *strand*
She's been on the *web* lately.
Says she'll be my Gwen Stacy, to spite her man/the spider man/despite her man/”
God, talk about "taking seriously", I can't take this channel seriously just after this flop.
Tldr, I think this video is just an edgy try hard attempt ride the Eminem hate and revisionism trend, but just comes across as uninformed, cringe and intellectually dishonest.. nothin new . .. same old stuff, only supported with "that's just my opinion"
I just unfortunately depleted 1hour of useful time. Thank you RUclips algorithm.. like this might be the most useless video I've watched this year.. God.

The song Marshall Mathers is about who he is & who he's not. Its all about contrast. They called him pop, he said no this is pop & I hate it. They said he wasn't reallt from Detroit, he so no ICP are white rappers who arent actually from detroit. He contrasted himself with his mother & her telling of events. You have to remember these are rap songs, they dont need to necessarily be as singularly focused because rap unlike other music is not about the songs, its about the artist.

As a ride or die Eminem stan, I was shocked to hear that SSLP was your favorite, but I feel like your critiques were fair (for the most part, Idk how anyone can hear Sing For the Moment an think "tacky" but that's beside the point)
I love your critique of Revival, I hate that album with every fiber of my soul. You even helped me catch a couple lines I didn't get initially, which made me hate it even more because they changed what I thought was a serviceable enough line into a bad pun (Struggle with despair) I disagree that Arose is sappy, or at the very least it never came off to me that way because it felt so real and genuine.

I strongly disagree with a lot of what is said here about em's early stuff. It just seems to me like Eminem isn't for you, which is fine! He certainly isn't for everyone, but I personally really like his work, both when he's taking it seriously, and when he isn't. As for revival, yeah it's not great. I'm not nostalgic for Em's stuff, I literally only started listening to him a couple years ago, so i have a good appreciation for both his new and old stuff. MTBMB and MMLP 2 are super underrated imo. The former is a flawed but charming romp and the latter is a really consistant, solid follow up to his most iconic album. Hell, I'll take angry Kamikaze Em over drugged up Encore Em or accent fiend Relapse Em. Even though I didn't agree with a lot of it, this was a very well made video, good job :)

Revival is not as bad as people describe it. It has 4-5 bad songs and great songs like Walk On Water, Nowhere Fast, Bad Husband,Castle & Arose.

  • @Jared_Wignall

Yeah, Revival is Eminem’s worst album. There are some good songs on it, but I’m just not that into the album compared to his other albums. Encore is my favorite album of his, mainly because I just find it to be the album of his where I can just listen to it whenever and enjoy it. The Marshall Mathers LP is the best album of his. Relapse is underrated and his other albums range from excellent to very good. Also, I’m not a big fan of political songs. I knew his album would have some political songs, but this is the most political he’s gotten and he doesn’t really cover the topics in any unique way. Might as well tune into the news of the time and you’d get the same thing Eminem was saying on Revival. Nothing new, nothing unique. Before, Eminem would have a song or two that would be political in nature, but that would be it, here though he decided to be his most political and I don’t think that was the best choice, but he did it and we’ve got what we got with this album. Eminem is still a great lyricist and my favorite rapper, but this is his worst album he’s made so far. The beats on here also weren’t very good, so that’s another unfortunate misstep for this album. Great video man!

Damn, you really did it. You let your dislike for Revival make you go back to find criticisms with each and every prior project. Seems like you put a lot of work into this vid, but it really comes across as petty and even a little uninformed. I mean almost every artist in existence uses the title of the song in the hook, right? And I'm sorry, but he really is saying some shit in Rap God. Maybe you need to give it another listen, or pull up the lyrics or something. He's using that song to tell his story as an artist in a very unique way. It's a self-analyzing song about himself as an atrist and a person. He's literally breaking down his entire career in that song.
I thought Revival was horrible too. I thought it was so bad that I waited years for him to come out and say it was a joke, or that he was trolling us, or he was actually remixing the entire album...something!!! But I didn't let my feelings about that project color his entire past discography. And before you label me a Stan, I have plenty of criticisms and his work. I just don't let it completely change my mind about the songs/projects that I love from him.

TES being my favorite & the last one I liked i can admit it feels pretty dated, but idk how you could call almost any of that production "pop".
Also i think you have to recognize that what you called tacky here was part of the theatrics that made Eminem so captivating, not to mention times were different. You're hearing it 25 years later on Spotify, but at the time the guy was everywhere, they spent tens of millions of dollars to get you & everyone you know to buy the CD, it was just a different time. you had to be there kinda thing.
The world you grew up in has formed you to be a person that cant really resonate as much with that period, especially when you include the tainted perception of Eminem in todays world.

1:28 is it just me, or does anyone else actually get genuinely sad/hurt when they hear the oldschool Shady-era tracks, knowing he's most likely NEVER going to bring those flows back? It's so weird because this guy was the first artist's music I ever bought as a lil 11 year old with my own pocket money buying Slim Shady LP and just being in awe of his ability. But listening to him now genuinely doesn't even sound like the same guy at all, it used to feel/sound SO fucking natural, like he was just spilling his brains and heart on the paper. Now everything sounds so cold and calculated, and in the worst way possible with these weird, edgy, disjointed flows,. radio pop lyrics and at times truly AWFUL production. I genuinely gave up on the homie when I heard Rap God and read the lyrics, I've felt like if you showed anything up til now to the younger Eminem, he'd laugh his ass off and call it corny as fuck.

The worst thing to happen to music was for Eminem to grow a beard.
Seriously though, I went to Revival knowing it was awful, and it surprised me on how BAD it was I Did not enjoy a single thing on this album besides maybe Walk On Water. even Castle and Arose which most people agree are good songs, I didn't care for them because I was put through 17 horrible tracks.
Worst moments on this album? Definitely that X Ambassadors hook and Heat. Remind Me was horrible, but was just a little taste for the horrid rap-country-rock fusion Heat would bring.
Ever since Revival I just can't look forward or enjoy Eminem's new music. I found MTBMB decent but I just can't bring myself to revisit it or like it enough to replay it like his older stuff.
Now something everyone is gonna hate me for, relapse is his best album.

The issue for revival with me ain't even quality , it lacks X factor, it has no spirit , it's just bland, I think he made it in reaction to tpab and Forrest hills drives and was trying to blend in with that
