Last week saw Eminem and his longtime manager recap the first four albums of Marshall's return to music for the first time as a sober artist. Eminem rediscovered his love for rapping on 'Relapse,' extended his creative range and found his confidence on 'Recovery,' and finally worked with his hero Rick Rubin for 'The Marshall Mathers LP 2.' We close the book on discussing this era of Eminem's Hall of Fame Career as he and Paul bring us up to speed on the latest chapter of his growth into present day with his recently released second greatest hits album, 'Curtain Call 2.'

Revival had so many songs on it that hit home for me... Bad Husband, In Your Head, Castles, Arose. They stay in my rotation.
I absolutely love the depth of Eminem’s raps. Lyrical genius. He brings another level to rap. He makes it an art in itself.

Believe is so underrated on Revival, one of my favorites, so powerful! Revival as a whole IMHO is a great album, bad husband, in your head, tragic endings, River, Castle and Arose are chilling and storytelling on another level!
Believe is probably somewhere in my top favorite Eminem songs. And I remember the first time I heard that song I stopped half way through and was like wtf is this weak ass song with his stop and go flow. Wasn't untill a few listens in and picked up the bars and loved it.
It's in the same place for me as 'lose yourself'. Strong and motivational, last verse is very strong, as a usual thing with Em's songs.
I think the way Em is looked at within the US and the rest of the world differs greatly. He is super appreciated all over the world. He has been responsible for introducing so many artists to new audiences. Lyrical content is unrivaled

5:27 this is the first time I've heard him talk about Castle + Arose. When I heard those songs and the way he rewound the tape... I cannot express to you the goosebumps that went through my body at the time. That was one of the most beautiful and heartfelt songwriting moments I have ever experienced. Revival is full of those moments. It's not my favorite but to say it's not brilliant is just serious lack of vision.
Same. Just hearing him say the names of them right then gave me goosebumps. I literally can’t understand how anyone can say anything even remotely negative about Arose. Regardless of whether it’s the type of song you normally like, it is on a whole new level of vulnerability & straight raw emotion.
I absolutely love the album, I can't hear walk on water without tears and just one wish to find Marshall and hold him hugs...castle and arose..just can't find words to describe the level of that masterpiece .. believe and framed are so ful of power.like home is pure devotion. River is interesting and emotional storytelling, lots of symbolic methafors...
Bro Revival is not full of those moments. The last 2 songs are great but you can’t stick a topping on a pile of shit and call it an ice cream
Man, I love Revival so much especially Arose, Castle, Tragic Endings, and Need Me. I remember when the album came out I was in my lowest and i felt like I got my spirit back from listening every songs on the album.

Every album that’s came out since I can remember had came out a time where I really needed it and it’s weird like I totally understand why people didn’t like it like I don’t play it at all tbh but at the time I had literally just overdosed and I was stuck in bed for two weeks detoxing so all I was doing was listening to the album and it was helping me alot and that’s what made me like it alot especially the way how it felt out of place and super grim because that’s how I felt at the moment

I've been an Em fan since the Slim Shady LP. Revival is underrated for sure. Castle and Arose are truly masterpieces. Kamikaze and M2BMB are 🔥 I'm proud that he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year. Congratulations Em!

I love Revival. Followed Marshall since the beginning, now we are old, the younger generation doesn't get the vibe. He is settling in, achieving inner peace. If it weren't because of those cheapshots, he might be Jim Carrey level awakening. I appreciate all the awesome comeback by Marshall, but I really hope he achieve his inner peace and use art to continue make his ammends.

The whole album is SO MUCH better than anyone outside of a small minority will ever say. The 1st listen is an experience, the listen on loop is fucking insane, and then everything after that you pick up a new perspective. Absolute masterpiece, without a doubt.

I've been a Stan for almost 20 years now. I love every single Eminem album, as well as listening through them all in order, especially on record; and going on a journey where I still catch new things or discover new connections throughout the songs in the albums. Another thing I like is making playlists based on songs, themes, personas, or certain details/points. Castle & Arose is an incredibly amazing listening experience. Can't ever listen to one without the other. Thank you Eminem for everything and Paul for these podcasts.

Revival as a project as dope. Scrap a few tracks, sure. But overall, Revival was the mature album that everyone said Eminem didn't have in him. As it's aged and I've revisited it, it honestly just becomes stronger.
I literally don’t know what is mature about the album. Was it the booty heavy duty diarrhoea line? Or the do a fake dab with my armpit sniff it? The album was doo-doo bud.
That comment Em made about reminding him of his mum saying he coloured outside the lines, 💔 sometimes being a parent, you forget, dont realise the effects what you do/say can have on ur kid's. Im a mum & teacher & i always make a fuss of everything my kids give me or do as it is all they have to offer you In that moment, i always praise them & tell them good job. ❤

One thing after hearing this from Paul and Eminem the process the ideas the motivations behind the album's and bringing certain people in that was very incredible to hear but they skipped over a album that was supposed to be released while he was going threw a very dark place the King Mathers Album which certain songs are leaked maybe all of them are but never heard from Em his mindset and the truth or possibility of his supposed to be last album to lead him to retirement, we all would love to hear that from Em about that time period from him on this
But thankfully he's still here and being what he is forever to be the G.O.A.T.

revival is so over hated, and you're definitely right about the whole "people just say its trash because they don't want to be wrong." it is not a bad album, there are a few songs that are a bit ehh but others are so amazing and you can tell you've put so much work into a few of those tracks.
See, this is the problem. You're judging every song individually. That isn't what makes an album incredible. All albums that are very good have to make the listener go "I see why he made this song because the last one was also the same as the album theme". Even as a die hard Eminem fan, Revival was judged by the critics fairly.

Eminem will always be my favourite ever rapper, but his insight into why people didn't like Revival, for the most part, just isn't true. There's a lot of people, like myself, that wanted to love that album, but it just wasn't it. It lacked so much conceptually, unlike MMLP2, and it didn't stick to a particular theme like most of his albums have done throughout the course of his career. The production of Revival was lacklustre to say the least, but despite Eminem not reflecting on it enough to have a changed opinion about why people didn't like it, his music has got better since. Revival did have some very good individual tracks like Castle, Arose, and Framed, but that doesn't sum up a whole album. The album was pieced together randomly, in the sense of how does all of this come together? It didn't, at all. From the horror theme with Framed, to the pop theme with Need Me ft. Pink, the whole album just didn't make sense. It just seems like he has this agenda that if you don't like it, you probably never wanted to like it in the first place, which is so far from the truth that it's actually sad how he can say something like this. He's been paying attention to what the haters say without actually taking into consideration what his die hard fans say about an album they didn't like.
Edit: It would also help if Eminem didn't surround himself with yes men. When has Paul ever disagreed with something Eminem has said? Never. It's common sense that you need the right people around you to bring out the best in you, which unfortunately for Eminem, isn't the case anymore. They're more than happy to sit back and agree with everything he says and tell him that his occasional bad music is the best thing since sliced bread.
Been a fan since ‘My Name Is’ was premiered on MTV’s TRL (I was 13?) and been biased since ha. I memorized his mostly all his lyrics and have just about all his collectibles w ALL POSSIBLE ALBUMS (released or not). They grew up on Wu-Tang and fell in love with Luda, Busta, 50, Hopsin, and Joyner, not to mention the obvious classics along the way. Countless hours spent watching battles, starting a rap website, hosting battles, recording tracks, and writing bars for years. Maybe that's just me, but my understanding of the complexity of multi-syllable rhyme schemes, similes, homonyms, metaphors, doubles, and triple entendres is solid. Flow, and how clearly he articulates words. How velcroed to the beat he is, among other metrics... Sales, streams, RUclips, and WHAT metrics?Awards? okay... But global status? Charting in America, Japan, and Africa isn't something other rappers are doing. He's the only 2000s era artist whose old stuff is doing as well as his new stuff, so longevity is there. He's more rap artists' favorite rap artist than anyone else. He may not be everyone's favorite-that's subjective. He may not pick the best beats at times; some say Jay is the best. He may not be the "ARTIST" that Yeezy is or doing live shows or touring like DMX or Wayne, but bar for bar, he is by far the best at rap on earth.

I always wondered at what point did Em accept Mac Miller as part of the culture, I hated on mac so much when he first came out he reminded me of rap justin bieber or something but then he dropped watching movies with the sound off and it changed my entire tune on him, everything from that point on for me was not just fire but art that he was progressing with on every drop. Thought it was so dope when em shouted him out. Em appreciates art and passion and i feel like em had a moment when he realized Mac isnt what we all thought he was at first. I mean to get a shout out from em on a track is the biggest accomplishment for a rapper so id love to know what made em start listening to him, or at least lending him an ear

It wasn’t just the track listing. I think it was bad decision making on the first singles choice. I like “Untouchable” a lot but that shouldn’t have been a single. What happened was the track listing kinda had people nervous and then he put out two singles that were meh and really shouldn’t have been singles and that killed their mood and from then on they just predetermined the album as trash. I always feel like had “River”, and “Nowhere Fast” been the initial first singles or “In Your Head” or maybe “Tragic Endings”. Then it would’ve drew people in more. This is just my honest opinion, but he chose the wrong the initial singles for the rollout and that fueled the negativity that was already present from seeing the track listing. As whole though, I thought Revival was great. Hated “Walk On Water” and “Need Me” but Revival is a solid album. Definitely not his best, but solid.
Revival is actually the album that made me start listening to Eminem.
