No lie, about 5 years ago, I was at the local watering hole with some friends and put this song on the jukebox. A large man of Pacific Island descent was sitting across the room with his girl. He stood up and demanded, “Who played this?” I confessed. I was a bit worried as he walked right up to me. But then he put his arm around me and said, “Man, this makes me think of my mom. She loves this song. My aunt-her sister- dated the lead singer for a while. I need to call my mom!” He gave me one more bear hug and returned to his date. Ambrosia is one of the hidden gems of the 70s. The entire Life Beyond LA album is a treasure. Biggest Part of Me, If Heaven Could Find Me, Holdin' On to Yesterday, Somewhere I've Never Travelled and Dancin' By Myself are all amazing.
Holdin' on to Yesterday was their first hit and got strong airplay on FM radio, back when FM was still new. Most reactors want to react to their later hits, because those had a wider general appeal. But Holdin' on to Yesterday was, and is, a brilliant song.
This is one of my go to late 70's ballads that I love so much! The late 70's & early 80's had plenty of these amazing lite-rock ballads. Great stuff!!!

This came out when I was a junior in high school and thought the song was really romantic . . . but then sometime in my forties, after being married for 12+ years I actually heard the verse, “I’ve got a wife now, years we’ve been going strong. Oh no! There’s something that I’ve got to say, sometimes when we make love, I still see your face” . . . . it floored me
I tell my wife about you two often, i love the energy you have and the joy you have over listening to music from yesteryear. She gets a kick out of me talking about how much joy i get watching you react to music from my youth.
This song describes so much about me and my love from back in the 80’s. Such heartbreak…such regret. It’s been over for so long now but we keep in touch because we have a son together and he just recently expressed this exact same sentiment to me as stated at the end of this song…there will always be something there between us. 💔

I’m 64 love this band. I actually got to hang out with them at a lounge that was shutdown after their concert 1998. My friend was head security so he got me in and it was awesome hanging out.

One thing I love so much about Ambrosia is how powerful the bridge itself tends to be in their songs. Their musicality is so awesome that even during that instrumental-dominant part of the song, it gets all up in ur feels just as much (if not more so) than the rest of the song. My husband and I always love hearing this song when our work takes us on the road. This great song has been around a long time and the music and lyrics are timeless. With us now being in our early 70's, we remember how special it was back then as it is to us now.

I really liked this song for decades, and then I really listened to the lyrics, and then I was like, oh my. I mean, in a way, it's touching, that he still has feelings for an ex. But, in another way, imagine being his wife and hearing that sometimes when they're intimate, he still thinks of her? Not okay, my dude. Or maybe that's just me. But when I break up with someone, they are dead to me. I have a live version of this somewhere, and you don't know until the end of it when people cheer, that it's live, because that's how talented they are, that they can sound that good live.

I saw Ambrosia in 2006. One of my friends picked them up from the air port. A couple weeks prior he asked me which of the acts I'd like to meet. I said Ambrosia. Then I said I'd liked to sing with them jokingly. Good to his promise, he took me to their trailer to meet them. Not even 5 minutes in, they said, so I heard that you want to sing with us. I about shyt my pants. Then they said let's hear you sing. I started singing you're the only woman. Next thing I know, I'm singing with them, practicing with them. I had wine with them and fruits and such. Then they said that they'd call me on stage to sing you're the biggest part of me. Which floored me. Because I didn't really think I'd be singing with them. Then they said that they needed to get ready for the show. I went and took my seat. True to their word, they called me up on stage. I was harmonizing with them. After the song was over, I was on my way back to my seat. Then they said angie....... come back up. I did. Then we all got into a straight line and took a bow. It was the coolest thing I've ever done. A week later, my friend said that they were asking where I went after the concert. Apparently they wanted me to hang out with them afterwards. I was just so happy that I did what I did with them. I didn't expect anything more.
I love seeing your reactions to these songs and how sensitive you are to each part of the music and the singers and meanings of the songs. My original reactions to the same music was very similar. Although I was a teenager and even younger for the late 70's early 80's music. And because I was so young and the music came with me on my journey through life, the meanings of the songs become more of a personal emotional part of me. When I hear this song, for example, it brings back all the times I played this song over and over as a form of self-medication because it described exactly what I felt when this same thing the song describes was happening to me. Hearing it again takes me back to the moments I lost the ones that I felt that much for and it compells very powerul emotion that brings me to tears... even after all these years. Thank you for allowing me to witness your experiences and adding a new light to this wonderful timeless music. You are both beautiful people inside and out. I can see that and I appreciate you. This came out when I was a junior in high school and thought the song was really romantic . . . but then sometime in my forties, after being married for 12+ years I actually heard the verse, “I’ve got a wife now, years we’ve been going strong. Oh no! There’s something that I’ve got to say, sometimes when we make love, I still see your face” . . . . it floored me
I tell my wife about you two often, i love the energy you have and the joy you have over listening to music from yesteryear. She gets a kick out of me talking about how much joy i get watching you react to music from my youth.

This song describes so much about me and my love from back in the 80’s. Such heartbreak…such regret. It’s been over for so long now but we keep in touch because we have a son together and he just recently expressed this exact same sentiment to me as stated at the end of this song…there will always be something there between us. 💔

I am not made to be alone and want love so badly…but after all this time it still hasn’t worked out for me and I am completely alone. It seems I fall in love with all the wrong people…selfish immature men who end up being emotionally unavailable and fearing commitment. I rarely even let myself fall in love but when I do it always ends up being a disaster. 💔

I’m 64 love this band. I actually got to hang out with them at a lounge that was shutdown after their concert 1998. My friend was head security so he got me in and it was awesome hanging out.
I'm soooooo glad you like this song. I grew up listening to a transistor radio hidden under my pillow late at night, playing the only station it could pick up and these were the songs that played.. All of these hits from this era are burned into my soul.

"Holdin on to Yesterday" would be my choice as the best pop hit from this band. But they had a number of very listenable hits with great harmonies. Also Ambrosia put out some terrific album tracks as well. They were more of a "Prog rock " band than this hit would imply. Great song with some great late 70's feel behind it.
Great late-70s sound. In my mind, this song seems to be linked to another fantastic song called "Baby Come Back" by Player. Not sure if you've reacted to that one yet, but if not, then you really should cuz you will LOVE it.

Also, Heart - Mistral Wind for Female Friday. For something fun and different, David Lindley - Mercury Blues with his slide guitar style. Love the songs and groups you've been doing.

My husband and I always love hearing this song when our work takes us on the road. This great song has been around a long time and the music and lyrics are timeless. With us now being in our early 70's, we remember how special it was back then as it is to us now.
I don't know if you've never listened to "The Little River Band" but if you have not, try "Lonesome Loser". Listening to Ambrosia made me think of them. They were both very popular at the time. ;o)

I was waiting for you guys to feature and react to this gem, always a favorite of mine plus the memories. It peaked at number 3 on Billboards chart in 1978. The harmonizing, instruments and the great voice of lead singer David Pack set this song to its greatness. A few other hits by Ambrosia were BIGGEST PART OF ME and YOU'RE THE ONLY WOMAN.

I really liked this song for decades, and then I really listened to the lyrics, and then I was like, oh my. I mean, in a way, it's touching, that he still has feelings for an ex. But, in another way, imagine being his wife and hearing that sometimes when they're intimate, he still thinks of her? Not okay, my dude. Or maybe that's just me. But when I break up with someone, they are dead to me. I have a live version of this somewhere, and you don't know until the end of it when people cheer, that it's live, because that's how talented they are, that they can sound that good live.

I saw Ambrosia in 2006. One of my friends picked them up from the air port. A couple weeks prior he asked me which of the acts I'd like to meet. I said Ambrosia. Then I said I'd liked to sing with them jokingly. Good to his promise, he took me to their trailer to meet them. Not even 5 minutes in, they said, so I heard that you want to sing with us. I about shyt my pants. Then they said let's hear you sing. I started singing you're the only woman. Next thing I know, I'm singing with them, practicing with them. I had wine with them and fruits and such. Then they said that they'd call me on stage to sing you're the biggest part of me. Which floored me. Because I didn't really think I'd be singing with them. Then they said that they needed to get ready for the show. I went and took my seat. True to their word, they called me up on stage. I was harmonizing with them. After the song was over, I was on my way back to my seat. Then they said angie....... come back up. I did. Then we all got into a straight line and took a bow. It was the coolest thing I've ever done. A week later, my friend said that they were asking where I went after the concert. Apparently they wanted me to hang out with them afterwards. I was just so happy that I did what I did with them. I didn't expect anything more.

I love seeing your reactions to these songs and how sensitive you are to each part of the music and the singers and meanings of the songs. My original reactions to the same music was very similar. Although I was a teenager and even younger for the late 70's early 80's music. And because I was so young and the music came with me on my journey through life, the meanings of the songs become more of a personal emotional part of me. When I hear this song, for example, it brings back all the times I played this song over and over as a form of self-medication because it described exactly what I felt when this same thing the song describes was happening to me. Hearing it again takes me back to the moments I lost the ones that I felt that much for and it compells very powerul emotion that brings me to tears... even after all these years. Thank you for allowing me to witness your experiences and adding a new light to this wonderful timeless music. You are both beautiful people inside and out. I can see that and I appreciate you. I got to see Ambrosia in concert in 2018. Orleans opened for them. Both were really good. Ambrosia is one of my favorite bands from the 70s.
A band your missing is a.r.s. atlanta rhythm section start with so into you. They have a doobie brothers or almond brothers band type of vibe.

This song came out in 1978 when I was 16 and I first heard it on the radio I immediately went to the record store and bought the album. David Pack's silky voice sold me! He was also easy on the eyes! ;) They were a band I followed all over California in those days. So glad you played this. :)
