I am a 59 year old African American man. This song came out in 1976 when I was 13. My siblings took awhile to warm up to it. But being a musician and going on to be a future DJ I just knew this song was a monster in its own unique way. I was right. This song won R&B song of the year in 1976 I believe at the American Music Awards. Considering the outstanding songs that were out at that time during that Disco Heavy year that itself says what an accomplishment that was.

Amber. This is a song you will hear today on an “old skool” R&B station.. Radio and music execs play and promote music based on genre, race, and age. The beauty of your channel flows from you two going beyond those boundaries.
I saw Boz a year ago and it was one of the BEST concerts I have ever seen and I've seen many, many concerts. Boz is one I want to see again. Simply amazing band. Boz rocks it.
This is one of those songs with an unmistakable, wall-shaking beat. This was a true cross-over hit too because when it came out every pop, rock and R&B station was playing it. Another Boz Skaggs song I like is a slower song: "Look What You've Done to Me."
The two of you are bringing so much light and joy into the world with your channel. Thank you. You should check out blues guitar legend Mr. Buddy Guy - Heavy Love.
The first time I ever heard Boz was when he stood in for The Beach Boys who were supposed to be playing in Minneapolis. When it was announced that the BB were not going to perform and Boz Skaggs was filling in, I was a little angry UNTIL he took the stage and started playing. I was blown away. You should check out the studio version of this song along with JoJo and LIdo Shuffle
Boz Skaggs used to play with The Steve Miller Band back in the late 60’s and into the 70’s. A very unique voice indeed. This particular version was from the “Dukes Of September” concerts where Donald Fagen of Steely Dan fame and Michael McDonald of “The Doobie Bros.” fame played. It is a phenomenal concert!!
"Miss Sun" and "JoJo" and even his cover of "Love, Look What You've Done To Me" are quintessential Boz tracks. Grew up near you in Plano, TX. (North Dallas)... yes, do more of him definitely.
This LP won the Grammy in 1976 for best record. It charted in the top ten on four different Billboard charts, including soul and R&B. I've seen him 3 times in the last 5 years and he never disappoints. He has a huge catalog with a ton of blues.
This was from the late 70's, so this sound was a fusion of a little R&B with a little funk and a smidgen of disco. Back then genres often blended into each other because people just loved everything that sounded good and wanted to dance to it in the clubs or at parties. Back then you could hear every type of music played on the top 40 or FM radio and no one cared too much about the genre, just if the music sounded good and they could vibe to it. If you liked this and Hall & Oates, you should listen to Bobby Caldwell, "What You Won't Do For Love" and Canadian singer Gino Vannelli, "I Just Wanna Stop".
Boz Skaggs was lead vocalist in a band that included horns, woodwinds and keyboards on top of the usual Rock & Roll sound that was guitars, percussion and vocal. I believe it is fair to say they were really a Rhythm & Blues group. There were a few others that followed that same formula and several had good success on the Popular Music Radio stations. Groups including Chicago, Gerry Rafferty and E.L.O.. I'm sure there were other examples as well.
The definition of cool and smooth. I was 30 when this song happened, and it shook my rock ‘n roll world. And If there’s a heaven for me, I hope I get to be one of his backup singers.
William Royce "Boz" Scaggs, born in Canton OH, grew up in Plano, TX. "Lowdown" was his first big hit. Other great ones include "Lido Shuffle", "Breakdown Dead Ahead", "Jojo", "Look What You've Done to Me", and "Miss Sun". He's now 77 years old and still recording, putting out his latest record in 2018.
For those of us old school in the 70s who weren't exclusively into disco, boz was IT!!! I remember seeing him in a bar (large bar, but definitely not concert hall) at 17 years of age (drinking age at the time in palm beach Florida was 18...fake ID lol). Right on the beach, dancing our drunk are fool heads off, rum sizzles and box scaggs. Will never forget those times. We DID , however love some Berbers too though, Rob! Please please you two, keep doing what you're doing!!! Awesome and thank you, from an old hippy.
I love this song and love this performance! This song is from 1976 and I believe there was more than 30 years between when the album was released and this live performance. Boz sounds awesome here. This song was on the album Silk Degrees and it’s a banger from start to finish. I love that you guys appreciated it immediately. I love you guys and your channel. This was 🔥.
SO GLAD YOU PULLED THIS VENUE!! YOU HAVE GOT TO DO, LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE TO ME. THE BACKUP SINGERS AT THE END OF SONG,AMAZING VOCALS🔥💯 THOSE 2 GIRLS VOICES WILL BLOW YOUR🤯
Another artist that I really enjoy from this genre is George Benson Give me the night, Broadway etc. If you haven't listened to him as yet then I definitely think you would enjoy his music
This song was the perfect mix of R&B, rock, jazz and blues. Blew everyone away back in 1976. The album was probably one of the best of the 1970s with songs like "It's Over", "Georgia", and "What Can I Say". Look for other songs by Boz such as "Slow Dancer", "Jojo", "Breakdown Dead Ahead", "Miss Sun", "Loan Me A Dime" and "Might Have To Cry".
Boz started out in the Steve Miller Band (1st 2 albums), before ending-up in Muscle Shoals (not, actually, in Muscle Shoals.) @ F.A.M.E. Records & meeting a kid that Rick Hall (the owner of FAME ) met sleeping in the parking lot. Kid was named: Duane Allman (before forming The Allman Brothers Band with his brother Gregg, etc.)👍👍. -Boz ended-up covering Fenton Robinson's "Somebody Loan Me A Dime" (as: "Loan Me A Dime"). This is Boz in the '70s (when he was, already established as a solo artist.) The "secret" to this tour (and this album and a couple around it) is that: numerous future members of Toto were members of Boz's touring band (along with Les McCann, who is the original guitar soloist on this song.). Jeff Porcaro on drums, I believe Mike Porcaro on keys, David Hungate on bass. ...These guys were all studio regulars and played on tons&tons of albums -both together & separately!-). Anyhow: Jeff played on a number of cuts on this album and the guys I mentioned, went out as the touring outfit for Boz Scaggs' Silk Degrees. 🤘🤘 [The "huge secret" is that: WHILE they were recording: TOTO IV (That's the album w/"Rosanna" & "Africa" on it), as their night job (yep. They did this after a full day of working on a gig for someone else!), d'you know what their "day job" was??: Recording tracks for michael jackson's Thriller (for Quincy Jones & m.j.)! Yup! No yolk! 😋😛😂👍👍]
Boz Skaggs was the biggest, most successful pop/soul male vocal of the late 70's along with Stevie Wonder and Gino Vannelli. I wish we still had artists like these. guys. Please do more.
About 10 years ago, Boz Scaggs, Michael McDonald (Doobie Brothers), and Donald Fagen (Steely Dan) toured together as Dukes of September. Here is a great Boz-fronted performance of "Miss Sun": ruclips.net/video/LZfh5R5QIZk/видео.html
This is the tune where, if you hear it at your gym, your grocery store, your gas station, your doctor’s office, or WHEREVER…you’ve just GOT to get up and start groovin’. It’s involuntary…you just can’t help yourself!
Same live performance, check out "Love, Look What You've Done To Me". The song is such a beautiful song about heartache, the live performance gives a haunting quality too it. It features even more of the backup singers amazing, and I mean Amazing, voices. And Amber talked about how his voice sounds like warm honey, this performance gives you the whole bee hive, that's been warmed in the summer sun all day.🐝🌞 Also on the Urban Cowboy soundtrack. One of the best love songs ever.
I grew up on his music (and I'm old) and he's still performing. They just announced he'll be in concert in July 2022 in my hometown. What a great career he's had!
My ex girlfriend bought me this album back in 1977 when I was sick in bed. Well, actually I have gotten shot while at a party. We didn't live together but you pick me up at the hospital and nursed me what you could. I never heard of Boz Scaggs till that album and I have it to this day. Reminds me of her every time.
I was 14 in 76. Oh my it brings back great memories.Boz Scaggs, the man with the chocolate pudding voice, wonderful musician. Summer nights, hanging out with the boys and girls in S. America, every weekend was a party. We used to hit all the parties in the city and the beach. Is it wrong to say I miss those times with no responsibilities?
Great song!! If you want to hear another with a few different instruments that sound amazing...Christopher Cross-"Sailing" ...a cool soothing beautiful song.
"Lowdown" came out in 1976 when Boz Scaggs was 32. This video is from a live concert in 2004 when Boz was 60. And he was still rocking it and sounded fantastic. You might also like his Top 20 hit called "Look What You've Done to Me," a pretty ballad.
And the ladies singing backing vocals too!! Heavenly voices ... they were spot on ... perfect!!! Jordan ... ya killed me 🤣🤣 ... with your comment to Amber: "Tea? I want somethin' to DRINK!!" Lmao Great song and great reactions!! More Boz ... and ... Doobie Brothers or Michael Mcdonald too!!! 👍🙏 I can't wait to see y'all react to more! @Rob Squad Reactions
Again an example of Rock reaching deep into different genres...and this would play back to back with ELO, John Denver, Kansas on my fav radio station cause Rock appreciates it all.
Most younger people may know We're All Alone, as every Wedding band in the 80's played it... My favorite is Breakdown Dead Ahead... Steve Lukather played all the guitar and the solos on Breakdown Dead Ahead - in fact half of Toto played on that "Middleman" album. Santana played on "You Can Have Me Anytime" on the same album. In the studio Skaggs used top session musicians along with quite a few well known artist. Bit of trivia... Boz Skaggs and Steve Miller were in the same band early on... the Marksmen.
In the early 90’s I saw the New York Rock and Soul Review live. Boz, Steely Dan, Michael McDonald and the late Phoebe Snow. Epic. Boz is a legend… his other huge hit “Lido Shuffle” is worthy of a review.

…… and some “Funk” mixed in too. Not many can take all these genres and make it work.
And this works 💯 %❗️
📻🙂
No disco in this. Pure R&B and funk. But I agree that Silk Degrees is on of the great albums ever.
Boz has such silky vocals - rock, pop, soul, R&B, jazz - he's such a vibe!
I am so elated when young people appreciate singers such as Boz! You both are awesome and you have a good taste! 💖💜 🎸
Boz is NO JOKE. He’s just smmmoooth❤️❤️. Keep going with him.
I saw him in concert a couple years ago. He’s in his mid70s and still as great as ever! The whole Silk Degrees album is fantastic! I still have my original vinyl. More Boz, please!
Me too and on CD as well
Me too!
My first concert, him and the Little River Band.
I just saw him two years ago in Arlington, Washington. I think SilkDegrees was aweso.e too
Bridgett de Gruy
Me Too! I played it for my grandkids. They loved it.
He’s still playing live and the voice is even more refined. Loved his music for decades! So glad new generations are appreciating the Boz Man. 🎉😊
He has a BEAUTIFUL love song written by David Forster-"Look What You've Done To Me" It's simply exquisite!!!!
A great song!
Yes, a great song - live version!
Amber. This is a song you will hear today on an “old skool” R&B station..
Radio and music execs play and promote music based on genre, race, and age. The beauty of your channel flows from you two going beyond those boundaries.
Boz was the lead guitarist in the Steve Miller Band back in the day... but the Silk Degrees album is simply outstanding front to back.
You should listen to Boz Scaggs performing “Look What You Done to Me”on the same concert. Excellent Love song.
Great song thanks for that suggestion !
Yesssssssssss!!!’
Lido Shuffle! I was a sophomore in High School and used to watch the dance team practice to Lido Shuffle. That’ll take me back!
I saw Boz a year ago and it was one of the BEST concerts I have ever seen and I've seen many, many concerts. Boz is one I want to see again. Simply amazing band. Boz rocks it.
Love Boz! "Look What You've Done To Me" and "Lido Shuffle" are must listens!
Boz has a great catalog to dive into. Start with Lido Shuffle
YASSSS!!!
Lido shuffle
And
Love look what you've done to me
Great song!
This is one of those songs with an unmistakable, wall-shaking beat. This was a true cross-over hit too because when it came out every pop, rock and R&B station was playing it. Another Boz Skaggs song I like is a slower song: "Look What You've Done to Me."
You guys ought to listen to a band called Pablo Cruise. "Love Will Find a Way," "Atlanta June," "What You Gonna Do" -- great stuff!
Absolutely...still have the album 🎵🎵🎵 how old am I? 😅😉
Rob likes the Piano: Family Man and Runnin
You've got to find your PLACE IN THE SUNNNNNNNNNN
@@mikenichols3965 How could I forget that one? Place In The Sun may be my favorite Pablo Cruise song. Thanks.
The two of you are bringing so much light and joy into the world with your channel. Thank you. You should check out blues guitar legend Mr. Buddy Guy - Heavy Love.
Agree! He's 83 and still playing great music!
I've been lucky with some show cancellations also, Reba got sick and LeeAnn Rimes ( a nobody at the time) played a wonderful show.
You guys are so positive and classy. Always loved this tune. Enjoy this rich era of music.
This is from a solo concert. Not with Fagen & McDonald.
Yes that is true but the series of concerts were called The Dukes Of September with each individual artist was doing there own concerts.
This song was released 46 years ago. He still has the voice . . . wow. He is almost 80 years old
"Miss Sun" and "JoJo" and even his cover of "Love, Look What You've Done To Me" are quintessential Boz tracks. Grew up near you in Plano, TX. (North Dallas)... yes, do more of him definitely.
THIS WAS THE 70s ,,,,, No Doubt bout it
This LP won the Grammy in 1976 for best record. It charted in the top ten on four different Billboard charts, including soul and R&B. I've seen him 3 times in the last 5 years and he never disappoints. He has a huge catalog with a ton of blues.
WOW!!! The live performance. Box Scaggs is someone I love to listen to . . . always! 👏👍☺️
Gino…OH YEAH!!!
He makes me melt!
A NOPE 1976 ,,
Love Boz..glad you found him 💙🙏🌠
The definition of cool and smooth. I was 30 when this song happened, and it shook my rock ‘n roll world. And If there’s a heaven for me, I hope I get to be one of his backup singers.
Boz started playing the blues... “loan me a dime “ has the great late Duane allman on guitar... one of the greatest songs in music history
If you've been to a Boz Skaggs concert, it's filled with musicians. He is loved by all! Once you've seen him live, you would go to every tour. 💗
You've got that right, Leslie!
This song reminds me of the beginning of the disco era. I bought this album when it came out and loved all the songs. Boy is just cool. 😎
This is a great live version, between this song and "Lido Shuffle", Boz Scaggs was pretty big for a few years in the mid to late 70s.
This was 🔥.
Makes me feel ancient! My daughter was born in 1976. I was 19 and I loved Boz Scaggs. To me, it’s rock/R&B/ jazz infusion. 🤷🏻♀️
Boz totally rocks. Other great Boz tunes: Breakdown Dead Ahead, Look What You've Done to Me, Georgia, JoJo, and of course Lido Shuffle is the best!!!
They will love & really feel (🎶 look what you've done to me (" can't wait'! ✌😄🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶😂
Old R&B is my favorite too, and I'm 72! Love your channel!
SO GLAD YOU PULLED THIS VENUE!!
YOU HAVE GOT TO DO, LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE TO ME. THE BACKUP SINGERS AT THE END OF SONG,AMAZING VOCALS🔥💯
THOSE 2 GIRLS VOICES WILL BLOW YOUR🤯
Yessssssss!!!!’
💯
I remember when this came out in the 70’s. He is smooth. It was during the disco era without it being disco.
59 yrs I always loved this song! But i also love the way you guys are vibeing to it !!❤ priceless...great job..🎉
Another artist that I really enjoy from this genre is George Benson Give me the night, Broadway etc. If you haven't listened to him as yet then I definitely think you would enjoy his music
LOVE George Benson!!!!
absolutely.
on broadway heavens…that scat.
Nice pick! Love Boz Skaggs!
1973-1977 high school . . . we were blessed to be bathed in a thousand artists and amazing bands!
This whole album, "Silk Degrees "is amazing
This is Boz in the '70s (when he was, already established as a solo artist.)
The "secret" to this tour (and this album and a couple around it) is that: numerous future members of Toto were members of Boz's touring band (along with Les McCann, who is the original guitar soloist on this song.).
[The "huge secret" is that: WHILE they were recording: TOTO IV (That's the album w/"Rosanna" & "Africa" on it), as their night job (yep. They did this after a full day of working on a gig for someone else!), d'you know what their "day job" was??: Recording tracks for michael jackson's Thriller (for Quincy Jones & m.j.)!
Yup! No yolk!
😋😛😂👍👍]
Great pick! Boz is the bomb! 🔥🤟
Boz is brilliant ❤️🏴❤️
Boz Skaggs was the biggest, most successful pop/soul male vocal of the late 70's along with Stevie Wonder and Gino Vannelli. I wish we still had artists like these.
guys. Please do more.
This great song practically defines the vibe of the era. Yes, a cool drink at a cool dance club. 👍👍👍
I missed a chance to see them in Atlanta several years ago. Definite mistake!
Hard to find dvd dukes of september!
This song did come out in the disco era, but was definitely an R&B song! So smooth and jazzy, too. The original recorded hit version is divine.
This song is a 70s release. His live performance is 30 years later. A true professional with staying power and a tight band.
I had never seen/heard this version. Very nice, but the original studio version is etched on my brain.
Pls pls try "Georgia" Boz Scaggs. Great horns, smooth, polished.
This is the tune where, if you hear it at your gym, your grocery store, your gas station, your doctor’s office, or WHEREVER…you’ve just GOT to get up and start groovin’. It’s involuntary…you just can’t help yourself!
Great call Jordan...much more aligned with my taste. I’ve seen him live many times and he’s an awesome blues musician.
One more comment, you guys could play any song off he’s greatest hits album and hit a win, and yes Jordan...lots of guitar riffs. 😂
I agree with the comments! Can I make a suggestion from the late sixties/ early seventies? Woman singer/songwriter. Laura Nyro.
Same live performance, check out "Love, Look What You've Done To Me". The song is such a beautiful song about heartache, the live performance gives a haunting quality too it. It features even more of the backup singers amazing, and I mean Amazing, voices. And Amber talked about how his voice sounds like warm honey, this performance gives you the whole bee hive, that's been warmed in the summer sun all day.🐝🌞
Also on the Urban Cowboy soundtrack. One of the best love songs ever.
Yes to everything you said!!
Hearing "Lowdown" the first time took my breath away and I have loved hearing it since. It is fantastic!
Jay HARDLY EVER LIKES TO GIVE CREDIT TO THE 70s LOL HE LIKES THE 70s WAY MORE THAN HE EVER WANTS TO ADMIDT LOL
This whole album, the slow dancer album, Jojo album, Memphis album are all awesome
Check out "Lido Shuffle", another Boz Scaggs classic.
wonderful album, Silk Degrees, many great hits. At the time it was released, the world went mad for Boz Scaggs
Amber will swoon!
Boz has got so many great songs. Lido shuffle and Look what you've done to me are two more to listen too.
Ya'll take me back to High School! Some great memories. Thank you so much. God Bless Your Whole Family
"Lowdown" came out in 1976 when Boz Scaggs was 32. This video is from a live concert in 2004 when Boz was 60. And he was still rocking it and sounded fantastic. You might also like his Top 20 hit called "Look What You've Done to Me," a pretty ballad.
Thank you for the live video, most just show the lyrics. Loved this song when it first came out, still love it today. Love you guys.
Boz is a hugely underrated guitarist, have to check out Loan me a Dime from his first album, over 12 minutes of bluesy soul.
Duane Allman was the guitarist on Loan Me A Dime. Boz was a great singer but no one ever cited him as a great guitarist.
@@John_Chu Boz was a more than adequate guitar player. He was perfect playing rhythm behind Duane.
Yep, got Boz and Duane mixed up. Thanks
@Dave Chosewood enjoy, worth every minute 😃
And the ladies singing backing vocals too!! Heavenly voices ... they were spot on ... perfect!!!
Jordan ... ya killed me 🤣🤣 ... with your comment to Amber: "Tea? I want somethin' to DRINK!!" Lmao
Great song and great reactions!!
More Boz ... and ... Doobie Brothers or Michael Mcdonald too!!! 👍🙏
I can't wait to see y'all react to more!
@Rob Squad Reactions
This whole concert is epic! I listen to several times a month! LOVE me some Bozz! Epic horn band...✌❤
In the early 90’s I saw the New York Rock and Soul Review live. Boz, Steely Dan, Michael McDonald and the late Phoebe Snow. Epic. Boz is a legend… his other huge hit “Lido Shuffle” is worthy of a review.
Great tour/great show! Caught them at the Garden State Performing Arts Center, even though I lived in Brooklyn Heights at the time.
But this was a 1976 Party Baby ,,
I saw a video of that. It was incredible 😊
