I like your description of late-night-drive songs....much better than 'yacht rock'. The first time I heard this song, as well as George Benson's "Give me the Night", was the first time I came to the USA, and my family and I were on the way from the airport to our family friend's home to stay for a few days before catching our flight from PIT to JFK and then onward. Of course it was a night time drive. Up to that point I'd only heard pop and rock when someone played it at a friend's house or a party, but both of those songs were just past current, and it amazed me that you had many radio stations playing cool tunes at all times of the day! Like going to JFK and having a few-hour layover but never being far from a place to get something to eat, even back in 1980, haha. I'm a citizen of the USA now and I'll always associate what they used to call soft rock with the late night drive, but as a grown-up it's with a hot cup of coffee in the holder in case I need it to keep me rolling, my traveling companion breathing softly in her sleep in the passenger seat, only a few more hours to go before hotel or home, and that feeling of deep calm and peace. It's so hard to come by, but I know at least one place I can find it.
I met Ambrosia back in 2006. One of my friends was in charge of gong to the airport to pick up the band. He asked me if I wanted to meet them. I said yes! I said I wanted to sing with them as well. True to his word, he found me at the concert. He took me to meet the band. I went inside to their trailer. Met the entire band. Then the singer said: so, we heard that you want to sing with us? I was half joking when I told my friend. He told the band I wanted to sing with them. Less than 5 minutes of meeting them, they asked me to sing for them. This was the song I chose. I was harmonizing with the band. They told me that they'd call me on stage to sing with them you're the the biggest part of me. I'm like oh my gosh! We hung out and had wine and cheese and crackers. Then they had to get ready to perform. I took my seat and sat and waited watching the concert. True to their word, I was called on stage. I sang, rather did the harmonizing part of the song. After song I was trying to get off the stage. The singer said ANGIE!!!! I got back on stage. Everyone took hold of hands and we all did a bow. I will not EVER forget this. I went home after concert. The following Monday my friend said they asked where I went after concert. I didn't know I could've hung out with them after. I was just on a natural high from doing something amazing and special. These guys are absolutely amazing, kind and funny!
Grew up on Teddy P. solo and with Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes! They need to check some Jeffrey Osborne and his prior group L.T.D. Music we're mentioning is what I call "THE GOOD STUFF!"
Teddy P sure did have a hard go. Horrible accident and recovery to only go down again. I remember when he made the come back from the 1st one and was both shocked and glad that he was back.
I love David Pack He just lost his beautiful wife to Breast Cancer. Stay strong, brother. He did an amazing duet with Alan Parsons from the Alans Parsons Project for charity. It is a cover of a Beatles song called If I Fell. You guys will love it. On the same charity event, that was done during the lock down for the virus, Peter Noone, lead singer for Herman's Hermits did a Hermits hit song with his daughter at home called Kind of A Hush. Both of these songs are worth checking out!!
This song was one of my favorite songs from Ambrosia. This song did peaked at the #13 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during the fall of 1980. The former lead singer, David Pack, has one of the greatest underrated voices in pop music indeed.
Eric Hill...are you sure it only got to #13? That's hard to believe. Well you know there was so many great songs back then Tell me you loved...Karen Carpenter! Lol....
It's true. This song did peaked at the #13 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Go to either the Billboard's website or go to Google. Type in the year on either website. By the way, I do like the Carpenters also.
Another group in the same lane as Ambrosia who you haven't checked out yet is Atlanta Rhythm Section. I'd recommend starting with either Imaginary Lover, Spooky, or So Into You.
WOW! This was great to hear again. Love chillin with you guys. Amber whenever you're ready for another one of these late 70s ballads I highly suggest "Cool Night" from Paul Davis.
Absolutely, one of my favorite groups of all time. David Pack’s voice is so beautiful. Need to listen to” I Just can’t let Go”. David teams up with the late James Ingram and Michael Mc Donald.
Got to love Ambrosia, harmonies, great musically, and very Eagles-esk in their delivery in my mind, I love that “soft rock” sound as Amber puts it. There are a few bands that absolutely excelled in it in the 70s and 80s and Ambrosia is right up there with the best in my opinion.
I'm a big fan of soft rock, blue-eyed soul and I love the uplifting and yet sometimes melancholy melodies. This genre will take you on some the most magical musical journeys. Here's a live performance of some of my favorite soft rock artists, and I believe you have reacted to at least on of theirs songs before. They are all lead singers on their own, but this time they are singing together...beautiful stuff❤🔥💯 "Maria - Michael McDonald, with James Ingram & David Pack Live - Gathering of Friends" I always walk away with a smile on my face after your reactions Amber & Jay. Thank you so much, especially now when it's so needed and appreciated 💖
I saw someone else below in the comments request a reaction to Gino Vannelli that would be incredible. Every young girl in the mid-70s was totally in love with Gino Vannelli and his voice is amazing. He seems the best love songs, wheels of life or any other song on any of his albums would be great.
There’s a full concert on YT- Michael McDonald and Friends. The friends are Ambrosia’s David Pack, James Ingram, Kenny Loggins , Patti LaBelle, Doobies, etc. It’s gold!
That was beautiful. One thing that I've noticed with soft rock artists, they really know how to craft great songs with great melodies and harmonies. A soft rock duo you really need to check out again is Seals and Crofts. You've only reacted to their "Summer Breeze" (btw, you should react to the Isley Bros.version. You will love it) Now check out "We May Never Pass this Way Again", "Diamond Girl" and especially "Hummingbird", a stunner of a song.
Their first album was a little prog rock but the absolute winner off their first album is another smoothie called "Holdin' On to Yesterday". You'll love it!
Had the pleasure to see them in 2019 with Little River Band and Firefall. They all sounded so great! Really good show. Check any of them out if they come to your area. They will not disappoint.
Beautiful Mellow song. Always a listen when I'm in a mellow relaxing mood. As others have already said "Holdin' On To Yesterday" by Ambrosia is a wonderful early song by them that you will enjoy. David Pack also has a solo song that many forget to mention that is just wonderful "That Girl Is Gone". Some other soft rock or mellow songs by other artists that you will also enjoy would be "Goin' Down" by Greg Guidry (1982), "Is It You" by Lee Ritenour featuring Eric Tagg (1981), "You Belong To Me" by Carly Simon (1978), "Moonlight Feels Right" by Starbuck (1976), "Cab Driver" by Daryl Hall (1996). You have not listened to Chris Isaak in a long long time and I suggest "Can't Do A Thing (To Stop Me)" (1993) by him. To get back to James Taylor at some point he has great songs like "Shower The People", "Handy Man" and "Her Town Too" that you will enjoy. For a real rare treat I would suggest "Love You Out of Your Mind" (1981) by Byrne & Barnes an American music duo consisting of Robert Byrne and Brandon Barnes. There are so many others but these I think you will enjoy for a start.
Ambrosia another great band of the 70's and that song "Your The Only Woman" hits home back in the day. Reading a few comments on Dan Fogelberg's "Another Auld Lang Syne" is a rough one, but I'm sure most everyone has experienced that experience at least once. Its definitely a who's cutting onions in front of my face song.
When I was a teenager, I was listening to this song on full blast, big old headphones on, completely unaware of anything else...and like you, couldn't help but move with the incredible music... My Mom...amazing woman, and my inspiration for all of the music I love...came walking in to let me know Dinner was ready, watched for a minute, and started laughing... I looked up and said, "But wait Mom!" turned back the song, put the headphones on her head, and instantly her face changed...her beautiful smile came out, she started swaying, and she whispered..."Dinner can wait..."
These soul-esque ballads by Ambrosia are just 1 side of their stuff...you should explore their proggy side with songs like "Danse With Me George" or "Cowboy Song" or songs from their 1982 hard rocking "Road Island"...your minds will explode...
David Pack (lead singer of Ambrosia) recently did a song with Alan Parsons called "I Won't be Led Astray", with none other than Joe Bonamassa doing the guitar solo.
Wow, Ambrosia overload. I am a teenager swaying on the dance floor at a school dance right now. Memories, memories, memories. Thanks again. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
You could really see in Amber's face, she was really getting into this song. 5:23 into video, when the horns came in...Amber's eyes said it all Enjoy seeing Jay getting into some soft rock as well !!!
Listening to this reminds me of another band that you have only done once and falls into the same lane. Pablo Cruise. And the song I would pick would be Love Will Find a Way. Definitely getting back to them for this is worth your time. You'll love it.
They stole my heart back in the 70s💕 love your range of genres, never know what to expect. Their guitar player is awesome in Holdin on to Yesterday Another soft playing group who had my heart especially the sax player who’s a banger by himself - please react to Classics IV, my fave is “Spooky”
The one you're missing the most is Holdin' On To Yesterday. It's a beautiful song bit a little sad. However, it's got great piano and guitarwork (well, everything, including violins ... no, not violence 🤣) in it, and was, in fact, their first hit.
Beautiful song, this group is so awesome! Song suggestion if it hasn't been done: Brother Louie by Stories Dance to the music & Thank you by Sly & the family Stone. These songs are super funky & upbeat! 👍👍
I'd never heard of this band before so I'm glad to have discovered them - thanks to you two and the ones who suggested it! I like that "middle of the road" kind of easy, cruising feeling. In the 90's, an artist called Jeff Buckley had amazing, unique and angelic vocals. You should check out "Grace", "Hallelujah" and "Last Goodbye" - to start with. ❣
It’s been ages since I heard this song and the lyrics are just flowing out of me as I am watching your reactions. I remember loving this song so much.❤😊Great reactions❤😊 Real music at its best.
Ambrosia is a great band. suggest Allan Parsons who engineered and produced them and used them and pilot as part of his band . Ya'll have done" Eye In The Sky" but there is more. "Time ","Don't Answer Me"" I Wouldn't Want To Be Like You" and more.. Parson helped produce Paul Mccartney,' Hollis , Al Stewart ,Pink Floyd and more .He started at EMI Abby Road. Allen Parsons Symphonic Project is were a full Colombian Symphony plays with the band it is fantastic..
David Pack doesn't get near the recognition he deserves ... crazy vocal control. And like you said Ambrosia has those golden harmonies that just lift your spirits to soar with them.
This has always been my favorite Ambrosia song. I love David Pack's voice. There's some live videos that have him singing with Michael McDonald and James Ingram that are great. He can use all our prayers now. He just lost his wife to breast cancer. So heartbreaking.
70's AM rock is defined by Ambrosia , so many memories of cruising the highways in Northern Cali as a kid , windows down just soaking up the day . Good stuff !
Pablo Cruise - Love Will Find A Way / Average White Band - A Love Of Your Own / Malo - Suavecito / Black Ivory - You And I / Hall & Oates - Me And Mrs. Jones (live) / Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell - If This World Were Mine / Jackson 5 - All I Do Is Think Of You / Norman Connors feat. Michael Henderson & Phyllis Hyman - You Are My Starship / The O'Jays - Brandy / Teena Marie - Portuguese Love
That's a great list and some of them I have suggested long ago like "You Are My Starship", "If This World Were Mine" and "Love Will Find A Way". They also need to hear other classics like "Sweet Baby" by Stanley Clarke, "Misty Blue" by Dorothy Moore, "Never Too Much" by Luther, "Free" by Deniece Williams, "Love Won't Let Me Wait" by Major Harris. Musts that I can't believe that they have not listen to yet are "Love Ballad" by L.T.D., "That's The Way of the World" and "After The Love Is Gone" by Earth, Wind & Fire. They never have done a song by The Stylistics yet. There are so many others they need to hear.
@@lreed1040 Since Jay has said he likes falsetto, then there is "Queen Of My Heart" by DeBarge & "Shoe Shoe Shine" by The Dynamic Superiors. With the 2nd song, they should try to find the performance on "Soul Train". There used to be a good quality video on RUclips, but now there's only one with poor video quality. For bass guitar - "Are You Single" by Aurra.
"Don't speak....." That's exactly what I was thinking when you cut into the middle of this amazing song!! This is one of my all time favorites...I love that you are listening to this kind of music! Absolute chills when it first starts playin'! Amber...I just knew you would love and be able to appreciate this song...I could just feel exactly what you were feeling just by the emotions on your face! Pretty close to how I feel listening to this song!
Finally, they did some really good music again with Ambrosia's You're the Only Woman. You should also consider Dan Fogelberg (Another Old Lang Syne), great story song, George Benson (Turn Your Love Around), Michael McDonald (You Belong to Me, No Looking Back Now) and Charlene (I've Never Been to Me--with lyrics, NOT the video), another great story song. Love it or hate it, there's no other song like that one
You guys have no idea what it was like to be cruising with your girl, and this came out on the radio. These guys were pros but Pack was a singer on another level
I haven't heard this song in decades. I think I was 12 when it came out. Imagine my cats' surprise when I started singing it to them....lol. I kinda miss this type of music, and I can't believe I remembered the words.😊
I'd classify this one as being in the genre of Yacht Rock which refers to the soft rock that dominated FM radio airwaves in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Yacht rock is characterized by glossy production, breezy vocals, and bouncy rhythms-all elements thought to evoke relaxing bay cruises in Southern California, where the genre originated.
You just can't go wrong with Ambrosia. Beautiful singing and melodies. Another great group from the 70's
Love the 70's❤❤❤❤❤❤

Jay & Amber, you'd like their "Holdin' on to Yesterday"! David Pack has quite a voice.

I was a teenager, when this song first came out. I loved it then, and I still love it!!
This is another good song from Ambrosia. I like it because you can dance to it. I love soft rock.
Thank you Jay and Amber. You cannot ever go wrong with Ambrosia. They’re all bangers. Love y’all. ❤
One of my all time favorite groups!!!
These soul-esque ballads by Ambrosia are just 1 side of their stuff...you should explore their proggy side with songs like "Danse With Me George" or "Cowboy Song" or songs from their 1982 hard rocking "Road Island"...your minds will explode...
Love your show guys and it just doesn't get any better than this for soft rock😊
For the record, a deep, heartfelt "Thank you!" for the joy you give me, daily. Great reactions, always.
David Pack (lead singer of Ambrosia) recently did a song with Alan Parsons called "I Won't be Led Astray", with none other than Joe Bonamassa doing the guitar solo.
How much I feel,by ambrosia hits home for many!! A must watch!!
Great suggestion 🥰
Beautiful song luv Ambrosia 😅❤❤❤❤❤
Wow, Ambrosia overload. I am a teenager swaying on the dance floor at a school dance right now. Memories, memories, memories. Thanks again. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
Ambrosia "Holding onto Yesterday" is a must
HOLDIN ON TO YESTERDAY ... Ambrosia
You got that so right!!! Definitely the epitome of what defines blue eyed soul!!!! Love this song and band so much. Thanks for coming back to them!!
You could really see in Amber's face, she was really getting into this song. 5:23 into video, when the horns came in...Amber's eyes said it all
Enjoy seeing Jay getting into some soft rock as well !!!
One of my favorite groups growing up as a teen. I miss music like this.
Listening to this reminds me of another band that you have only done once and falls into the same lane. Pablo Cruise. And the song I would pick would be Love Will Find a Way. Definitely getting back to them for this is worth your time. You'll love it.
First song I heard by them was "Nice, Nice, Very Nice". Drummond kills it on drums.
Classic!
A beautiful song in any time frame
They stole my heart back in the 70s💕 love your range of genres, never know what to expect. Their guitar player is awesome in Holdin on to Yesterday
Another soft playing group who had my heart especially the sax player who’s a banger by himself - please react to Classics IV, my fave is “Spooky”
This song has one of the best musical breaks... textbook, should be taught/an example in songwriting school.
Joe Puerta is just so soulful and solid on the bass guitar.
Absolutely,,,David Pak Awesome voice!! Love it!!!
Song suggestion if it hasn't been done:
Brother Louie by Stories
Dance to the music & Thank you by Sly & the family Stone. These songs are super funky & upbeat! 👍👍
The way you look at each other during the song. Just pure magic from the heart. Bless you for sharing the joy of great music.
Jeff was incredible….gone to soon…..RIP
Hearing some of these songs again when I didn’t have the emotional maturity 50 years ago is really an incredible revelation. Thank you so much guys!
A jamm for sure❤
It’s been ages since I heard this song and the lyrics are just flowing out of me as I am watching your reactions. I remember loving this song so much.❤😊Great reactions❤😊 Real music at its best.
Love Ambrosia. One of the best 70's bands is The Eagles. One of These Nights is my favorite although they have so many great songs.
Watching her groove to that song is awesome. She's getting it.👍
She puts on a show for sure
Ambrosia is a great band. suggest Allan Parsons who engineered and produced them and used them and pilot as part of his band . Ya'll have done" Eye In The Sky" but there is more. "Time ","Don't Answer Me"" I Wouldn't Want To Be Like You" and more.. Parson helped produce Paul Mccartney,' Hollis , Al Stewart ,Pink Floyd and more .He started at EMI Abby Road. Allen Parsons Symphonic Project is were a full Colombian Symphony plays with the band it is fantastic..
Oh yeah, I love all Ambrosia.✌❤🎶 Brings back so many great memories 💞
David Pack doesn't get near the recognition he deserves ... crazy vocal control. And like you said Ambrosia has those golden harmonies that just lift your spirits to soar with them.
Ambrosia loves reactors. They had Jamal aka Jamel introduce them at the beginning of their show in LA!
So cool 😎 🥰
This is one of those songs that you don’t realize you’ve forgotten. Until you hear it again
This has always been my favorite Ambrosia song. I love David Pack's voice. There's some live videos that have him singing with Michael McDonald and James Ingram that are great. He can use all our prayers now. He just lost his wife to breast cancer. So heartbreaking.
Please listen to "Waiting for a Star to Fall" from BOY MEETS GIRL.
You two are, adorable, you make watching reaction videos so fun. This is a great group for love songs.
This is my favorite from Ambrosia ❤️ Very romantic at a beautiful place over calm waters with the moonlight shining on the water 💞
You two are soooo cute. I love watching your reactions to the wonderful music of the 70s. It transports me back to my youth 😊
You guys have no idea what it was like to be cruising with your girl, and this came out on the radio. These guys were pros but Pack was a singer on another level
Holding on to Yesterday is a must listen!
Yes I agree great group all time saw them in person with the lead singer from Player also
Do you want more Pure prairie league doing "Let me love you tonight" it's a song Amber will love....
Early Vince Gill! Great band!
Vince Gill was the lead singer, born in Oklahoma. Love their song Amy
That old school Rhodes organ, maybe the B5, just fills this song with so much panache. Another slam dunk from Ambrosia!
Do you mean Hammond organ?
