It has a special charm when you see somebody enjoying and appreciating a song you have always loved. Is like if somebody rewards you and tells you that you were right for so long time. This song is so inspired, so positive and its so beautifully arranged and singed!
This song epitomizes the power of 70's Soft Rock at its best. "Love Is the Answer" was written by Todd Rundgren (released by his band Utopia, in 1977.) In 1979, England Dan & John Ford Coley released their version, which reached number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
I prefer Todd's version .. Both good but I think Todd's version displays his less commercial voice and the originals are hard to surpass ,even with gospel choirs. Everybody has their personal preferences.
Todd's originals have been amazingly eclectic. He was never content to just do soft rock, but the public pigeonholed him & wasn't interested in the other facets of his talent. He's done hard rock, progressive rock, musical satire, experimental electronic music, a capella, even a cover of a tune from a Gilbert & Sullivan operetta.
England Dan is Dan Seals, who had huge success as a country artist, some AMAZING songs. “All that Glitters is not Gold”, “Bop”, “Addicted”, “They Rage On”…whoo, that’s a deep, wonderful rabbit hole, dive on in!
"We'll Never Have to Say Goodbye Again". One of the delights of growing up in the 70s was turning on the radio & listening to hits like this. For me, it was 55 KTSA out of San Antonio.
Great song!!! Great Duet!!! Great Message!!! I forgot about this song!!! When it came out...People was playing this song in their protest for Civil Rights and Equal Rights!!! Church Choirs were singing this song!!! A Huge hit!!! A very Relevant for today when the world is at war with itself!!! This is the song!!! Great reactions!!! We love you guys/111 We appreciate you guys on spreading the word that love is the answer!!! And there is another song that talks about this from The progressive Rock band Yes, it is called "Going For The One" by Yes from their album, "Going For The One," released in 1977. Check it out!!! It is a Banger!!!!
When I was leaving San Diego after finishing Marine Corps boot camp in 1979. I sat between these guys on the flight home. They introduced themselves as Dan and John and talked about how proud they were that I had stepped up to serve my country. During the flight, people stopped to ask them for autographs. It was a bit embarrassing because I had no idea who they were. As I was waiting to get off the plane. I asked a flight attendant who they were. I couldn't believe it. They were, England 'Dan' and 'John' Ford Coley. And were just regular people who made the conversation about me. Looking back I wonder if they were relieved that I didn't know them and were glad they didn't have to endure another awe struck fan gushing all over them for several hours. Quite the memory for this small town, Michigan kid.
Yeah it seems like back in the late '70s all kind of weird shit was happening in California, and stories like this don't surprise me at all, and actually would have almost been normal occurrences especially in those SoCal areas. For some reason always associate it with Cheech and Chong... but I know not all of it was just that kind of idiotic nonsense, right???
Love Love Love that you two finally got around to this. How can you NOT smile when this is coming through your ears. Don't forget that "England" Dan Seals is the brother of Jim Seals of "Seals and Croft" fame, another dynamic duo of the 70's music scene.
I love this song. One of my all-time favourites. Reminds me of when I was a little kid, staring out my bedroom window at the lights on the motorway in the distance, imagining it was New York.
As a child of the '60s and early 70s, this was a great time for music...y'all have found it too....btw another similar duo of that era is Seals and Crofts....great songs...I would go with "Get Closer" to start with....
I have felt for a long time now if the younger generation gets to hear some of these great tunes from the 60's, 70's and 80's they will appreciate the talent and creativity of musicians back then.
I love this type of soft rock music from the 70's. England Dan & John Ford Coley had a lot of great hits such as "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight", "Nights Are Forever Without You", "It's Sad To Belong (To Someone Else)", "Gone Too Far", "It's All Up To You", "We'll Never Have To Say Goodbye Again" etc.
I love them so much since the seventies and this song just brings tears to my eyes because every single word is true I love it it's all. About love and not to be gruesome But I asked my daughter to play this when I passed away
England Dan later transitioned to country music as Dan Seals and had several hits. Among them are: My Old Yellow Car, God Must Be A Cowboy At Heart, Bop, and Meet Me In Montana with Marie Osmond (the Osmond Brothers ' little sister). Thank you for another great reaction.
Don't forget Addicted, Everything That Glitters (Is Not Gold), Big Wheels In The Moonlight and You Still Move Me (all of which hit #1 on the country chart)
Nights Are Forever Without You, that's the one you need to hear next! By the way, England Dan is Dan Seals, brother of Jim Seals, of the duo Seals and Crofts which you have reacted to (Summer Breeze).
Great reaction guys! This tune with a great message was written by Todd Rundgren and was the closing track on Utopia's album, Oops, Wrong Planet! Peace!
This was definitely one of my favorite songs growing up in the seventies. As others have said Dan Seals had a career as a country artist. His song 'Bop' is such a fun song and 'Meet Me In Montana ' done as a duo with Marie Osmond are just a couple of so many wonderful songs he has sung.
I've only just discovered this song last month and I've been literally playing it on repeat everyday. Man I can't get enough of it. What an amazing duo making quality music. I'm looking into their music I'm just blown away
Fell in lllllove with Todd Rundgren mid-seventies (this song is the last song on Oops! Wrong Planet by his band Utopia)…been a fan throughout all of his shapeshifting, self-reinventing musical adventures. And hung out with him a few times…loved seeing your response.
Dan Seals is the lead singer. His brother Jim Seals of Seals and Croft sang back up on this song, it’s his raspy voice you hear at the end. One of my absolute favorite songs.
I grew up with this but in the new world we live in it just is So much more meaningful. I really believe Love is the answer and that's what the lord wants us to practice. Love is the answer love your fellow man and woman. Its the purpose to our life here.
I didn't find out until the 90's that Todd Rundgren wrote and performed this song with his group/project: Utopia. I bought the Best of Utopia CD and there it was. BTW, this album, Dr. Heckle and Mr. Jive, has some bangers on it, as well.
In the '80s, England Dan had some Solo success, but he went by his real name instead of the England Dan nickname give to him by his brother. For one of his hits as Dan Seals, he did a duet with Marie Osmond called "Meet Me in Montana."

I'm doing okay right now, and listening to this kind of music, from when I grew up... REALLY helps my mood! I looked through a lot of the comments, and there a TON of them! Clearly, this song (and the group, in general)... means a LOT to a LOT OF PEOPLE!! I'm about to relate something that happened when I was in high school... in regards to THIS SONG... so if anyone experienced this in school, please tell what grade it was for you. When I was in 10th or 11th grade (1981 / 1982), there was some organization that did a presentation at my school. There was (at least) 3 projection screens, and a big sound system... and there were slides being shown of people in various circumstances (some may have been sad or hopelessness), and also images of people helping one another... and "Love is the Answer" was a KEY song in the presentation! I remember the students cheering when the song played (because... "WHO" doesn't just absolutely LOVE THIS SONG??!). I really didn't like going to school, but that presentation was my fondest memory from high school!! I don't know if they still do those presentations, or if it was done in other states (I was in southern California when I saw it)... but it really delivered a great message - particularly with that song. It really is my favorite song of all time!!!
Right after I suggested "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight" you uploaded it a couple days later. This is another one of their biggies. They had that mellow, easy, breezy, sunny 70''s sound. I would strongly recommended (if you do no others by them) to hit two of my other favorites"It's Sad To Belong" (a rare song topic, about finding the love of your life while you are already committed to someone else) and "Nights Are Forever" next. If you have time, you can follow it up with "We'll Never Have To Say Goodbye Again" and "Gone Too Far".
