Great song by one of the greatest bands ever, with the greatest singer to ever set foot on a stage.
This whole album is fantastic- “Suzanne” is one of my favorite journey songs of all time, and “be good to yourself “ is really awesome too… and have others have mentioned, that’s indeed American Idol’s Randy Jackson on bass!
Seen your face at the movies hear your voice on the radio! ❤
I agree, love that album!
Damn, Journey was from my youth era, every time still brings up goosebumps. Thank for 'reacting'. sending love
Journey had it all. Great song writers, great lead singer, great background vocals, awesome guitar. Just a once in a lifetime band.
No Autotune, no safety net, just an amazing singer on stage with only his voice to carry him.
Yup. Live ,real live vocals. Unreal!
I was a singer in a couple of bands. Nobody has any Idea how good Steve is really, and how hard this is! Respect.
My all time favorite Journey song. The harmony rich ending is unmatched & golden
The bass player is Randy Jackson from American Idol...judge...
Do you realize that the bass player is my man from American Ido and he’s talking about going back on tour with journey as their bass player? It is so freaking awesome.
One of my favorite Journey songs! Love it!
Mine too
I really enjoy your videos and seeing your reactions. I'm 70 years old and have been a Journey fan from their beginnings. I feel that they were at their peak during this concert tour. You can see how much fun they were having while performing. Sadly, I never got to see them live
It literally blows my mind that Randy Jackson from the early American Idol days was the guy playing bass!😮😮😮😮 Go DOG!
I mentioned this on another Journey reaction video, but I have more detailed information about the 1983 Journey video game :
Journey is an arcade video game released by Bally Midway in 1983. Rock band Journey had enjoyed major success in the early 1980s, and Bally/Midway decided to ride this wave of popularity by creating an arcade game based on the group. Its release was intended to coincide with the band's US tour (for the Frontiers album, the cover artwork of which is used in the video game's main display screen). This game uses digitized photographs of the members of the band at the time: Steve Perry, Neal Schon, Steve Smith, Jonathan Cain, and Ross Valory. ~ Wikipedia
The game's prologue explains the objective in the demo sequences (and presumably before each play session) :
Wild alien groupoids have seized Journey's electro-supercharged instruments. Your mission is to help Journey retrieve their instruments from the dangers of the Five Galaxies. Trek through hazardous obstacles in quest of each instrument and then battle your way back to the Scarab vehicle.
When all five missions are completed, Journey begins a spectacular concert at the Galactic Stadium. Journey plays their hit song while Herbie guards the stage from frenzied groupoids who are trying to take the instruments.
Te Journey songs in this game for each of the levels are :
Steve Perry, vocals - DON'T STOP BELIEVING (from the album ESCAPE, 1981)
Neal Schon, guitar - CHAIN REACTION (from the album FRONTIERS, 1983)
Ross Valory, bass - KEEP ON RUNNING (from the album ESCAPE, 1981)
Jonathan Cain, piano/keyboards - STONE IN LOVE (from the album ESCAPE, 1981)
Steve Smith, drums - WHEEL IN THE SKY (from the album INFINITY, 1978)
Other in-game events :
Planet Select Screen (choosing which level/band member to play) - FRONTIERS (from the album FRONTIERS, 1983)
Losing A Life (failing the level) - WHO'S CRYING NOW (from the album ESCAPE, 1981)
Planet Cleared (completing the level) - LIGHTS (from the album INFINITY, 1978)
I have only ever played this game a handful of times back in the day (1983-1985) when it was at the local Safeway (grocery store) in my neighborhood, and I could never complete a single level.
It was simple enough in concept, but near impossible in execution. Either the controls were set to be extremely sensitive, or the difficulty was jacked up (possibly both) to scam dumb indignant kids (like I was, lol) into feeding the machine more quarters.
The live version here is very good. I've seen Journey live a bunch of times and even though they are one of only a few bands that have the musicianship and vocal prowess to pull their music off live it's still difficult to replicate the sound quality and musical production of a well thought out studio version. Asia and Bj...do yourselves a favor and listen to the studio version of this song.
Yes! It's much more smoother than the live version!
My all time favorite Band and I’m a 53 year old Metal fan. In the 70’s and just getting into music Journey was the first band to blow my mind. Steve Perry of course
My favorite Journey song! Thanks for the reaction.
Under the moonlight ahhhhhh Steve Perry so beautiful voice
Most of their albums are great! My favorite is probably Frontiers, almost every song charted!
Patty-Asia will love one of his solo songs titled Missing You and No Erasin. These are post Journey with last song released 5 yrs ago. He still rocks it at 70.
That is Randy Jackson on bass who was a judge on American Idol for several seasons.
Loved y'all s reaction to this so much, I had to come back 8 mos later to watch it again!
Still they Ride in Japan 1983
Saw them back in 81, EPIC!!!!!! And again with Steve Augeri, He was close to perry :)
A little perspective on Journey from someone who grew up on them in the 70's and 80's. To me, they were at their pinnacle when I was in high school in the early to mid 80's. Escape was an amazing album only to be topped by Frontiers! Journey had that hard rock sound that we all loved back then like our other favorite rock bands... Van Halen, Foreigner, Queen, Styx, etc. However, when their next album 'Raised on Radio' came out in the later 80's (which this song was on), most of us who had fallen in love with the hard rock sound Journey had in their previous two albums were thinking "Oh No, they are turning into a POP band!" Well, that may have been our initial thoughts, but did it keep us from buying and listening to (over and over) the album? Absolutely not! Journey was such an amazing band, it really didn't matter what style of music they sang - it still would have been good! So, I am so glad I embraced the new sound of Journey in Raised on Radio because so many songs on that album like this song bring me SO many great memories from back then!
After taking over 25 years to return to singing after departing Journey he recorded a new album called Traces please listen and react to two songs “No Erasin” and “We’re Still Here” at age 71 unbelievable rasp and power hope to see you enjoy him at his current age!! You guys Rock!!❤
Omg I was at that concert at 16 years old best live show ever xoxo for real
This is why I am still a fan girl of Journey and Steve Perry. Steve was, is, still is and will always be my favorite songbird! I was blessed a few years back to tell him how much he has meant to me these last 40+ years and I was brave enough to tell him how he is my favorite songbird and how much I just freaking love him🥰 I will tell you this Steve is the most grateful mega star I have ever met, and he truly loves his fans as much as we love him. I got that from the man himself. My youngest grandchild, who is six years old absolutely loves Steve Perry. One of her favorite songs by Journey is wheel in the sky. I have been blessed to have grown up with such great music from the 60s, 70s, and the 80s.😎 See profile pick of me and “The Voice” taken in 2019. ✌🏻
@Steve Perry are you his handler? Everyone know that Steve does not reach out himself so nice try buddy!
Randy Jackson of the voice. Did you know that was him. A wonderful performer as well. Neal on the guitar....and THAT VOICE
FINALLY Journey is the Best 😊
I really love your channel. Steve Perry stopped performing not long after this performance because he was tired of the touring lifestyle. In case you didn't recognize the bass player in this video. It was RandyJackson. He was one of the original judges on American idol when that show first started
An amazing time to be alive and witness such greatness!
Randy jackson on bass from American idol
The man playing bass is none other than Randy Jackson from American Idol. Journey parted ways with bass player Ross Valerie and drummer Steve Smith before this album.
So glad you watched this one.
im 53 i s aw this tour in i think 86 we didnt know that was his last tour i feel special
I was at that concert. Angels Camp!
Randy said at one time the best time in his life, Randy, Neil, Steve!! Enough said
Steve "The Voice" Perry 🔥❤
He put a an album a couple years ago and I really enjoyed it. React to no erasin. It’s a solid song.
You should also check out Suzanne and It Could Of Been You also from this same album Raised On Radio. Both are worth checking out and deep cuts on the album.
They pan out at the end, and you realize it's an entire stadium full.,
Do not forget lead guitarist Neal Schon quit school at 15 years old and was so good that he had Carlos Santana and Eric Clapton fighting over him at 15!
Steve Perry made Journey. They were going to be dropped by record company until he joined. Then straight ride up.
Es bueno que las nuevas generaciones conozcan la calidad de la música de antes , cuando la música era música de verdad.
Los 60 ,70 y 80 . Maravilloso
Great song!
Steve sounded like a more modern Sam Cooke, and said he idolized Sam.
Randy Jackson (American Idol) played bass for them then.
Great as always!
and randy jackson killin it on bass
Listen to why can’t this night go on forever… she will love Perry in this.
The red tuxedo jacket…. ❤❤❤
Steve perry has a 😂voice of an angel 😂😂
Essa música é sensacional 💚👏👏🇧🇷
I love Asia too, alright BJ too lol
Check out Strung Out by Steve Perry
Listen to the video of I'll be alright without you it's all live steve perry such a voice
I am A manly man nothing wrong with liking his voice Asia amazing 😬
The Randy Jackson days...
When they had Steve they were packing Stadiums.
Randy Jackson on Bass … Fantastic Journey song with Steve Perry on vocals ..
I don’t think they recognized him.
@@ghfantexas6848 .. True .. 👍🏼
That is not Randy Jackson. It is Clarence Clemons from Springsteen's band.
Clarence Clemons plays the sax.
@@erics4653 you need to look it up.. Randy Jackson is indeed on Bass ,and has also returned to play Bass with Journey in recent years.. Randy would talk about his time in Journey on American Idol when a contestant would pick a Journey song to sing ..
I saw this tour in '86. Had 3rd row and was only 5 feet away from Steve Perry. Tickets were...$18.00. Gosh, we were so spoiled growing up. Steve was so cool during the concert -- so was Randy Jackson on bass!
Hey, $18 was a lot of money in the 80s.
I still have $10 and $12 ticket stubs saved in a storage box. We were blessed to see some of the greats in their prime for a fraction of the cost the pretenders charge today. The 80's ruled. 🤘
it was really cool to see Randy Jackson playing and singing with journey but what's messed up is when they were inducted in the rock and roll hall of fame they did'nt include him i mean they did'nt even invite him to the ceremony ; i still like them but that was like i said messed up .
Same at the BJCC in Birmingham, Al. Also saw the Frontiers tour in 83. One of the best. No doubt.
I was also at this concert 👊🏻 the best time’s
Very few people have "The Voice" Steve is one of the few who can sing a single 3 second note and you automatically know it's him.
Kathryn...name that tune....remember that show? Or u too young, lol.
@@michaelasay8587 I can name that tune in 4 notes.....( I'm almost 57 so yeah, I remember it well)
No cell phone, no worries about a photo op. Everyone being together enjoying the exact same moment. What a great time to be young and free!
Geri...so stay off yr cell more, lol. And tell everyone else!! Bad world out there now.
So glad I grew up back then.
So true.
I never even heard of Randy Jackson until American Idol came along. I remember hearing him talking about playing in Journey all the time. I didn’t even realize that Steve Smith and Ross Valory were gone. I actually like this lineup, though. Neal Schon is the only original member left in Journey. Steve Smith an Ross Valory were recently fired regarding them trying to get ownership of the band. They didn’t realize Steve Perry still gets paid by Journey. It was part of Journey deciding to continue on without him because he didn’t get hip replacement surgery quick enough for their liking. It was a contract they had to come to terms with for them going on without them leaving him. He received a huge amount from their first 2 albums they recorded after his departure. He gets a chunk of whatever merchandise they sell. He currently gets paid $800,000 a year while they’re still active. He has a net worth of 70 million dollars. For someone who’s been gone from Journey since like 1997, he’s making some great money. He says he doesn’t spend a lot of money. He has a nice home, but it’s not some kind of mansion. He’s never been married. So, he never had to worry about losing half of his things. He’s a smart guy.
That's how it was then! None of this primary relationship w your tech device nonsense; people actually socialized in person, TALKED to each other and everything was created by us by hand; none of this social media, AI, green-screen, studio-produced nonsense. And we had REAL movie plots not reboots.
The "VOICE" Steve Perry.. The pride of Hanford, CA.
Asia you have great musical taste. I'm listening to music over 60 yrs and I'm leaning towards saying Steve may be the best singer ever. He's the whole package. It's said walking and singing is one of the most difficult things to do Steve does it effortlessly. Another great song. Hats off to all the band members, great job. 🎉🎉
Every girl loved Journey in the 80s. That's why most guys loved Journey in the 80s.
Good times great music ❤
Steve Perry's voice melts hearts❤
Come on now BJ. When it comes to Asia and Steve Perry, “the girl can’t help it.” 😉 One of the great vocal rock acts, among many. Top Shelf. 🤘😎
It is the greatest joy to me to watch you both fall in ❤ with Journey like we did! 🎶. Awesome!
I’m with you Asia! Incredible voice, guitar everything!! Captivating forever!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
For the record, ALL concerts were big like this back then! You expected nothing less when going to a concert then.
And at the right time people knew when to hold up their lighters, none of this iPhone bullshit.
@@Mike-rk8px People came together over the music like nothing else...must be why they stopped it.
100%. We are going in July. Will be fun regardless of no SP. but for the 40 year mark. Going back is still everything!
So true…..you had to get there early before assigned seating! All 20+ concerts I went to in the 70’s and 80’s were always wild .
@@daveversion2.2 Yep...was the norm to sell out like a football game..60k or more per show every.
OMG that incredible voice, there is no other like Steve Perry. There is no question why he is still and always will be so beloved around the world.
I've always loved the onstage chemistry of Neil Schon (guitar) & Steve.
Right there with you, Asia!! His voice is beyond amazing! My favorite all time band. Their music never gets old for me, and I am 56 and lived through this era!
Journey and the Eagles were the best harmonies in rock. I always get a kick out of seeing Randy Jackson at bass... you forget he was amazing in Journey.
Not to rub it in, BUT, I saw Journey live 4 times all with SP fronting the band. All performances were surreal for me being a huge fan.
I'm so glad you reacted to this song. The 1st time I heard it I was hooked and probably wore it out. Great reaction!!! ❤❤❤
As a 62 year old woman he had it for so many women. You felt he was singing to you. You two has the sweetest disposition
I was a kid in the 80’s and this band sweeps me right back to that amazing time. Steve Perry’s voice is other worldly. ❤❤❤❤
Asia, I don't want to keep rubbing this in LOL but I was lucky enough to see this band twice and I can tell you on God that this band sounded so good life and so perfect that these musicians were top-notch and then the vocals and harmonies would just almost make anybody get tears in their eyes they were so good ! Part of the magic is that while the bandholz down vocal harmonies that are perfect it give Steve Perry room to sort of exercises voice and solo a bit on top of the harmonies is just amazing.
And I noticed on this song that part of the magic that happens in here is the song actually modulates into a different key I would say the first part of a verse was in one key and then the second part of the same verse would modulate and then they're going to the pre chorus and the chorus and then come back in and to the original key not a lotta do stuff like that in their.
But I want to say I'm thankful that I started watching you guys a long time ago and I'm also thankful that you guys get turned on by some of them same music that I thoroughly enjoy as well.
Raised on Radio is one of the best-produced records of the 1980s; you owe it yourselves to hear the perfect-ness of the sounds on the album version of this song. Imagine five Perrys layered on top of each other in the choral section at the end. Stunning stuff.
My favorite song by these guys. Journey was huge as I graduated high school in 1984. Fire song for real
Mine too.
Mine too
Hank...did t u see them again n concert? I saw them in 81 with Loverboy and Joan Jett!
@@michaelasay8587 no honestly I’ve never been big on going to concerts.
@@hankarmentrout6697 you've missed out ..my God. You've got to get over whatever you're fear or concern is. I find this strange.
That was Randy Jackson from Idol on the bass
I can't even tell you how many times my Mom saw Journey in concert. They're one of her favorite bands and she most definitely passed it down to me because I absolutely love them too. I hope you both can react to "Winds Of March". It's one of my favorite songs of theirs. I'm not a parent so I could never understand the significance of this song but I think it can resonant with a parent, especially a father. It's a beautiful yet heartbreaking song.
My mom too, we’ve seen journey 3 times, unfortunately Steve perry wasn’t with them but we did see Steve perry solo once and it was amazing. I was only like 10 but it was great!
@@wendydotson8891 Yeah, I think the first couple times she saw them I was there. However, I was in utero so I don't quite remember what happened LOL. Rubbed off on me though because I love Journey.
So glad you mentioned Winds Of March. It,s my favorite with Steve Perry. One of the best Journey songs. The build up that leads into the bridge with the Organ Solo is amazing. Infinity is my favorite Journey album with Steve Perry.
I've got one for you Asia that really shows off Steve's voice.
Check out "Patiently" from The Midnight Special. It wasn't a huge hit but the first song Steve Perry & Neil Schoen wrote right when Steve joined the band. They said that was a bonding moment between the both of them & the rest is history!
I loved the album Raised On Radio. Great Journey songs.
There’s no auto tune garbage and he can walk around and sing like that! Can’t imagine living with him and having that voice sing just around the house to other bands. I imagine it was priceless growing up with him! They sold out every single show they did! I was lucky enough to see them when I was 13 and right before Steve Perry lost that voice unfortunately for a long time. It was unbelievable! He is so amazing and just walks around like that y’all!!!
I had the pleasure to see them on this tour. They were fantastic. Out of all the concerts I was able to see, I would pick this one second only to Pink Floyd. Both unbelievable musically. My date that night is now my wife. 🥰
You recognize the bass player, a certain American Idol judge, Randy Jackson. Crazy ✌🏽🤟🏽
Agree with you, Steve Perry vocals was just amazing like I was only three years old when that song came out, but oh my God I am like loving the way this man sings!
This is my absolute favorite Journey song. It's just so poignant, and every time I listen I can envision this couple that does love each other, but can't get out of their own way enough to make it happen and still looking for someone else out there. Really heartbreaking in that sense. They do put on a hell of a show. These lyrics though, they really tell such a story.
Had the privilege of seeing Journey live many times in the early eighties. Greatest band ever, hands down.
LOVE IT!!! This track is in my top 5 fav all time by this band. The harmonies are incredible! And Neil ripping that guitar at the end. So legendary band.
Happy to Give, Why Cant This Night Go On Forever, and Eyes of a Woman - all off this album and showcases Steve's voice even more than than usual.
Asia & BJ, you’ll love their "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin' " !!!
I saw Journey, Aerosmith, Sammy Hager, and Bryan Adam's for $14 in 1983. No pre recorded backing tracks and 15 years before auto tune.
Finally!!! You guys did it...I've been waiting for you to do this one. Love the fact that Asia, being a singer, appreciated Steve's range and tone. Now, just complete your repertoire and do "Mother/Father" from the 1981 Houston concert, live! 👍
Steve Perry (The Voice) a vocal genius. Randy Jackson on Bass was incredible!! ♥️🎶🎤❤ 🎸
The companion song to this would be "Send Her My Love" which of course shows how Great Journey is. Been a fan for almost 5 decades now.
@@peace-and-quietI listened to that track 5 times maybe 3 mon ago. Couple of my friends agreed it is top notch a little jazzy and soulful.
Oooh yeah, Send Her My Love gives me chills every time!
You can hear the beginning of that song starting up in the video!
Awesome tune. Studio version is even better. Also you'd love Just the Same Way, Only the Young, and Ask the Lonely.
My all-time favorite Journey song!!!! I wish people would cover the studio version of the song, though. It's fantastic.
Yes. That's Randy Jackson playing bass in 1986. Great album. Listen to it since I bought it. I was 25 then. Great music, great memories!
Me too. 25 and stationed in England.
Great taste, Asia! You have a gorgeous voice yourself!
Neal Schon, the guitarist, was 17 when he joined Santana on their third album. When Carlos got into the whole Jazz fusion thing with John McLaughlin, he and Santana's keyboard player decided to form their own band so they could keep on rocking. That band was Journey. What you saw here was the second incarnation of Journey.
He was 15
