One of the coolest shows on tv is Live From Daryl’s House where the best musicians in the world stop by and spend the day jamming in his home studio and having dinner together.
The anticipation they build during the first half makes the second half of the song so satisfying! I couldn’t wait for Daryl to bust out those vocals to see your reaction. They’re still amazing to see in concert.
They are strangely one of those groups that grow on you the more you listen. "Maneater", and "Out of Touch" (their last #1) are 2 of my favs. Love this channel and it's peeps.
@@bernardcrowley1816 I don't think you can say "their worst..." for any Hall and Oates songs. Maybe "less popular" or for the haters "it's so popular I have to hate it". Too many great songs too much talent for them to have a "their worst song"
What a great song to start with hall and oates. Shes gone is one of the best songs ever made. The soul and the heart are amazing. So as the great lyrics. Its my favorite hall and oates. Rich girl and sara smile are also my favorites to.
These guys are the epitome of "blue-eyed soul"...and their band is one of the best in the business. I saw them at a relatively small venue in the '90s. I have never seen a crowd get up and boogey like they did that night for Hall and Oates.
The songs from In most of the Comments from Viewers in all their songs Are Sara smile ,,, Shes Gone ,,, And Rich Girl ,,,,, And thats Just the way it is, And their all 3 from the 70s
Sara Smile is another of my favorites by them. Other suggestions: Wait For Me, Maneater, One on One, Kiss On My List, I Can’t Go For That, You Make My Dreams Come True. They state they were influenced by rock and soul but the labels called them Pop or Rock. This song definitely has an R&B vibe to it.
This was their second big hit in the 70s after "Sara Smile". They helped pioneer what has come to be known as Philly Soul. They more or less carried on the "blue-eyed soul" style that was made famous by the Righteous Brothers. The 80s were when they REALLY exploded.
I would be willing to bet my next paycheck that you will fall madly in love with them if you listen to Sara's Smile. Not just in my opinion, I have heard other realtors say it is one of the best songs ever written. It is absolutely beautiful even if you don't like the slower ones. Darrell Hall has an amazing voice.
At the first pause when J said that it wasn't grabbing him, all I could think was "just wait... it's coming..." Lots of amazing songs from Hall & Oates.
J&A, you'll love their "You Make My Dreams Come True", "Kiss On My List" and "Rich Girl". Daryl has one of the great rock/pop voices. He's got that Philly soul.
Hall & Oats considered "Blue Eyed Soul". This is one of their hits from the 70's. They were HUGE in the 80's, but the music became more pop than soul. Daryl Hall, the tall blond does most of the singing, and plays the keyboards. John Oats' mustache use to have it's own cartoon, VERY famous.
It's cool. I rather you react honestly to a song than pretend to like something. Much respect for your honesty. Believe me, there have been a lot of really popular songs over the years that just didn't do it for me.
Yes, seen them twice in person! Really good music, many hits you’ll have to to look through the catalog. Isn’t it great to play music that comes from years ago and it’s still better than ever😊😊😊😊😊
How can you decide you don't like a song after just hearing a few lines? It's like listening to Stairway to Heaven & waiting impatiently for the balladic part to be over so you can get to the guitar solo. It's all one song, building up & releasing. She's Gone is one of the smoothest, best harmonized & lyrical songs of that decade, imo, & one of their very best. 😢
The most successfull duo in music history! You should check out the "Live from Daryls house" series - Daryl Hall gathers other musicians at his house and they jam :) I´d suggest "I can´t go for that" with Cee Lo Green, "Sara Smile" with Jimmy Wayne, "Heard it through the grapevine" with Rob Thomas and finally the original of "Out of touch" - it´s my favorite song from H&A :) It´s a dream of mine to see them live... Sadly I guess it will never happen :( Edit "Rich girl" is, technically speaking, the PERFECT pop song :)
I came down here to post this same point about them being the most successful duo in music history, but saw you had already posted it so you get another thumbs up. Hall and Oats were also part of the "We Are The World" project although only Daryl got a solo, John Oats got a great shot in the video as they are panning the Choir.
The song starts slow because there’s a build up to the second half. The second half wouldn’t exist without the first half slow build up. Whether you felt it or not, it’s a masterpiece.
Thank you ! I didn't see your post before so posted mine above. I felt I had to school these young people about tension, feeling and build up in this song. Many young music fans don't really listen to the lyrics to songs these days. So much of today's music lacks lyrical content and quality. So many don't really listen. If they really listened to this song like Jayvee really listens to the music he reacts to, they would better understand and appreciate how the music is crafted as a whole .
Appreciate the honesty at the beginning J. That’s why I love listening to your channel. Not every song is going to grab you in. Nothing wrong with that.
This song builds up as the sadness of the absence builds. It's supposed to show the growing sadness of the singer. Hall and Oats really knew how to write songs well.
Daryl Hall and John Oates wrote many songs which other artists made into hits. They were inducted into the Songwriter Hall of Fame about ten years ago, if memory serves.
Listen, I want to let you guys know that I have been watching your reviews for a couple of weeks and I absolutely love you guys! A lot of reviewers are just doing it to make videos, but you guys actually LOVE music like I do. You can feel the music and it comes through in your reviews!
I think that there’s been a loss of the ability to appreciate musical progression within a given work as opposed to just being immediately hit with the hook, and I think that that has had cumulatively detrimental effect on people’s ability to appreciate works of music as an art the goes beyond immediate gratification. Like the current ear of pop music feels like what if people could only see pointillist paintings from half an inch away.
That's because the attention span of people is so small. Music will never be the same now as it's born of technology and not talent most of the time. It's evident by their reaction to it. They couldn't even wait a couple minutes into the song. I am sure they are nice people but they show their age........
Rich Girl, Maneater, Out of Touch, Kiss On My List, Make My Dreams Come True, Private Eyes, I Can't Go For That and Sara Smile are all Hall and Oates bangers!

And in all sincerity ... y'all do take care of each other and that lovely offspring ... remember "Marriage" ain't about "Adults", it's about the Children ... keep it real, keep it open ... or as the "Beatles" said ... "There's nothing you can do that can't be done Nothing you can sing that can't be sung Nothing you can say, but you can learn how to play the game It's easy Nothing you can make that can't be made No one you can save that can't be saved Nothing you can do, but you can learn how to be you in time It's easy" Keep it real y'all !!!

The anticipation they build during the first half makes the second half of the song so satisfying! I couldn’t wait for Daryl to bust out those vocals to see your reaction. They’re still amazing to see in concert.
Their vocal harmonies make my arm hair stand on end! I wouldn't admit that as a kid, silly huh?
I have heard this song many times and YES their vocal harmonies are astounding!!
When i think of Hall and Oates...."Maneater" is the song that comes to mind!
Great and iconic song. They have a great catalogue
@@topgazza they really do!!!
Look up “seven hunnid” on RUclips, you won’t regret it, he’s too underrated 🥶
@@trevors.5998 With "he" you actually mean "you", right?
NOT for me SARA SMILE IS HALL N OATS HANDS DOWN I M H I. The 70s
They are strangely one of those groups that grow on you the more you listen. "Maneater", and "Out of Touch" (their last #1) are 2 of my favs. Love this channel and it's peeps.
To me, some of their lesser known songs match anything else they have done, Adult Education, Family Man, So Close and Wait For Me.
@@mikeat2637 Agreed.
@@mikeat2637 yes! Family Man!!! Also like Everytime you Go Away(the original version)
2 of their worst songs
@@bernardcrowley1816 I don't think you can say "their worst..." for any Hall and Oates songs. Maybe "less popular" or for the haters "it's so popular I have to hate it". Too many great songs too much talent for them to have a "their worst song"
I'm with Amber on this one. One of their classics.
"You Make My Dreams Come True" is REALLY good. The rhythm on it is very unique!! 🔥
Such a vibe on this one. I love them so much. I was a teen in the 80s and they are a big part of my history!
What a great song to start with hall and oates. Shes gone is one of the best songs ever made. The soul and the heart are amazing. So as the great lyrics. Its my favorite hall and oates. Rich girl and sara smile are also my favorites to.
This was called "Blue-Eyed Soul" back in the day.
On the radio, it was often referred to as "adult contemporary" back then.
These guys are the epitome of "blue-eyed soul"...and their band is one of the best in the business. I saw them at a relatively small venue in the '90s. I have never seen a crowd get up and boogey like they did that night for Hall and Oates.
You can't go wrong with the Hall & Oates catalog of songs because they are all great!
If you liked this, you MUST react to "Sarah Smile"! One of the smoothest songs ever!!!
Love that one, too!
Absolutely love hall and oates there's so many wonderful songs to hear from them, rich girl and you make my dreams come true
The songs from In most of the Comments from Viewers in all their songs Are Sara smile ,,, Shes Gone ,,, And Rich Girl ,,,,, And thats Just the way it is, And their all 3 from the 70s
********Straight Outta' PHILLY: HALL & OATES Are the Biggest Selling Duo of All Time! Genuine Blue Eyed Soul.
Definite make out music back in my day lol.
They were called "Philly Soul" or " Blue Eyed Soul"
Typical 70s pop
Try Sarah Smile……like the people in this comments section suggest.
Yes! ‘KISS Is On My List’...really catchy.
This was their second big hit in the 70s after "Sara Smile". They helped pioneer what has come to be known as Philly Soul. They more or less carried on the "blue-eyed soul" style that was made famous by the Righteous Brothers. The 80s were when they REALLY exploded.
Definitely a good song… ! Love the progression. These guys were the bomb when I was young. Glad to see others like the parts I really like!
This song is so sad, too! Made the singer actually cry out.
One of the best duos ever Daryl Hall and John Oates amazing
Hall (the blonde) and Oates (dark hair) are one of the most decorated pop duos of all time! Soooo many hits! The brought the Philly soul sound!
Greatest song of all time
I love Hall and Oates! Their "One on One" is one of my favorite songs. "I Can't Go For That" and "Maneater" also rank right up there for me. :D
If you like horns (& I know you do 😁), Man-eater is the Hall & Oates song to listen to 💟
@@honorsilverthorne7227 " Look out here she comes...! "
@@jaycorby 💟💟💟
Ditto! My all time favs three songs by Hall n Oates. Grew up to Dad jamming these guys in the garage.
At the first pause when J said that it wasn't grabbing him, all I could think was "just wait... it's coming..." Lots of amazing songs from Hall & Oates.
Yeah, I knew the solo and the 3X-key change finish would bowl them over.
Whole song is magic
J&A, you'll love their "You Make My Dreams Come True", "Kiss On My List" and "Rich Girl". Daryl has one of the great rock/pop voices. He's got that Philly soul.
You make my dreams is such a head boppin song! Love it!
Hall & Oates is called "The Philadelpia Sound/Philadelpia Soul" genre of R & B (The O'Jays, TSOP, Herald Mevin and the Blue Notes)
Loved seeing Jay's compete turn around on this song. And with the final falsetto Amber looked liked she was in church :). Another awesome reaction.
Bill Anderson Fa real she was
"Rich Girl", Maneater" and "I Can't go for That" are my 3 favorite Hall and Oats songs.
Rich Girl, Sarah Smile and She's Gone are mine =)
@@musicandmoviefan9217 me to i agree 100%
Amber’s reaction is EVERYTHING!! lol 💕💕💕
Sadly I guess it will never happen :(
Edit "Rich girl" is, technically speaking, the PERFECT pop song :)
Yes!
Here's a link to Daryl's House episodes ✌♥️
My 2 favorite episodes of Daryl's House are the ones with Tommy Shaw of Styx, and Johnny Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls.
I came down here to post this same point about them being the most successful duo in music history, but saw you had already posted it so you get another thumbs up. Hall and Oats were also part of the "We Are The World" project although only Daryl got a solo, John Oats got a great shot in the video as they are panning the Choir.
Out Of Touch is one of my favorites!! The version Hall did with Chris Daughtry from Darryl’s house is incredible!
The song starts slow because there’s a build up to the second half. The second half wouldn’t exist without the first half slow build up. Whether you felt it or not, it’s a masterpiece.
Bravo!! Exactly!!!
Yea, they brand new.
Hall and Oates were played on most R&B radio stations. Likely, before you were born, lol.
I agree. The sadness builds til he finally shouts “She’s gone!” Really is emotional... These guys have a sound, I tell you!...
Listen, I want to let you guys know that I have been watching your reviews for a couple of weeks and I absolutely love you guys! A lot of reviewers are just doing it to make videos, but you guys actually LOVE music like I do. You can feel the music and it comes through in your reviews!
"You make my dreams " is another awesome song by Hall and Oates
This is my favorite Hall and Oats song, with Sarah smile a close second. Glad you ended up liking it by the end!
That's probably the best way to summarize it that I've ever heard.
That's because the attention span of people is so small. Music will never be the same now as it's born of technology and not talent most of the time. It's evident by their reaction to it. They couldn't even wait a couple minutes into the song. I am sure they are nice people but they show their age........
I couldn't have said it better myself.
@@88Musk Bullseye! 👏👏👏
Yes, yes, and yes.
Rich Girl, Maneater, Out of Touch, Kiss On My List, Make My Dreams Come True, Private Eyes, I Can't Go For That and Sara Smile are all Hall and Oates bangers!
For Hall and Oates you guys should check out "Out of Touch."
'Loggins and Messina' a great duo and I recommend 'Danny's Song' by them.
"Watching the River Run" and "House on Pooh Corner" too.
Yes!
My first rock and roll concert was Loggins and Messina in 1974. Fantastic. So many great songs. Deep cuts like Sailin' the Wind, Good Friend, Same Old Wine, Trilogy, Time To Space, You Need Man...
I could go on...
Loved when Kenny Logging guested on Daryl's House, and they talked about Danny's song and then performed it
J & Amber; Welcome to the Pride and Joy of the Philadelphia Sound! These two gentlemen ruled the 70’s and into the 80’s with just cooled out rhythm. Great Choice!
This song is a Classic
I went for a run once while I was visiting my dad and I listened to this song while I was jogging around his neighborhood. When I came back my dad was drinking a beer and had this same song playing really loudly from the radio. Love & miss him
'Kiss On My List' is a really good song from Hall and Oats! Along with Sara's Smile, Rich Girl, Private Eyes!!
Hall and Oats are gods of music. ❤❤❤❤❤
“I need a drink and a quick decision” …. One of my favorite song lyric lines.
Y'all hit that "Like" button ... THAT is how we keep this "dynamic duo" on the YT web !!! Thanks from the French Riviera for what you do ... killin' it !!!
And in all sincerity ... y'all do take care of each other and that lovely offspring ... remember "Marriage" ain't about "Adults", it's about the Children ... keep it real, keep it open ... or as the "Beatles" said ...
"There's nothing you can do that can't be done
Nothing you can sing that can't be sung
Nothing you can say, but you can learn how to play the game
It's easy
Nothing you can make that can't be made
No one you can save that can't be saved
Nothing you can do, but you can learn how to be you in time
It's easy"
Keep it real y'all !!!
I agree. I watch a few Reactors but these two are so real. Love the way they treat each other. Such heart and soul.
@Antonio Raphael to be sure on Ireland ... nicer People too !
I’m a hard rocker too, but LOVE Hall and Oates. They’ve done many great songs…I Can’t Go For That is excellent
Love how Amber wears her emotions on her face
This might be my fave H&O song, or one of the top few anyway. But I appreciate the honesty at the beginning. So many reactors never have a negative thing to say. It's like every song they react to is the greatest thing they've ever heard.
