    Proper old school into the night telly! Sounds like lounge music, or something from a 1980s ad campaign for some trendy product aimed at the jet set.

      It's just smooth modern jazz, really. We don't get much of it in the UK anymore but it's still really popular in Japan and the USA.

    Out of curiosity, where did you get the recordings from? Discogs says they were only released on LP. Your uploads are CD or certainly excellent tape quality. Thank you for a fantastic upload, and you've brought back many memories for me.

      Robert Tucker
      My guess is he recorded the LP and then convert it to digital files like WAV or FLAC.
      Any well maintained records with right equipment can sound wonderful easily trumps the CD.

    Portal 2's "Smooth Jazz" was clearly ripping the piss out of this kind of soundtrack.

    Was this music specifically commissioned by the BBC for Ceefax?

    • @JohnF-hh8xn
      @JohnF-hh8xn 4 месяца назад +1

      The answer is...no! Fay Gibbs Music Services supplied various library and commercial tracks to the Beeb. These tracks could be used as they were published and released outside of the UK, avoiding full copyright charges...

    • @JohnF-hh8xn
      @JohnF-hh8xn 4 месяца назад

      Tracks from Italian libraries Patchwork and Ariston, and various Czech produced/performed tracks also featured on the Fay Gibbs supplied tapes. The BBC cue sheets ended up with mostly made up track names and performers....
