He's proficient in close combat by the time of Civil War, but it's still obvious he isn't as skilled as the super soldiers. He lands hits on Bucky due to being able to tank Bucky's initial strike and then immediately countering since he didn't take damage or get stunned. Same with Cap until Cap until the shield is in play. Then he gets overwhelmed without his AI. He's more skilled than he looks, but it goes with character development. Cap wasn't very skilled in his first movie and neither was Iron Man. They both got better.
He is good at hand to hand combat, but not as good as cap. The reason he was able to actually beat cap in hand to hand combat at the end was because his suit read cap's fight pattern and was able to counter it
his suit can read the pattern of the person he's fighting. I'm not saying he's not good at hand to hand but the suit really helps him be better by 100%
I love the weapons that stay consistent throughout the movies; the shoulder missile rack, the large anti tank missile in the gauntlet, the powerful red lasers, it’s just nice to see the consistency.
Getting punched by his bare fist with the iron man arm on would hurt like sh*t because it makes him way stronger because of an exo skeleton built it to it
I don't watch these movies but I thought hulk could throw tanks and had the most strength in the world the angrier he got? How tf was iron man throwing him about? Can a fan explain
I keep reading comments on how the hell Iron Man lost to Cap during Civil War. Keep in mind people that it wasn't a 1on1 fight, and both Bucky and Steve aren't regular people, they got a bit of enhancement and skills. And it wasn't like Iron Man tried to kill Cap as well, he just wanted to knock him down because he couldn't kill Bucky while Steve keeps on interfering. Tony could go all out against Cap but he didn't because he didn't want to kill him, just Bucky he wants to kill.
CaiJadE I'm team iron man too, but I have to point out that when you say iron man wasn't trying to kill cap, you fail to understand that neither was cap. In fact cap and bucky were just trying to disable his suit by going from the arc reactor.
Both sides were holding back until the end, where they both got very close to killing each other. Iron Man is more powerful overall due to his range advantage, but cqc is where Cap and Bucky excel. The shield is like a defense version of the lightsaber, so it's an advantage for Cap.
I'm going to imagine that you are that boy who was there and the broken English is due to Stark's weapons screwing up the stability of your education in the English language.
tony holds back against bucky and captain america... he could literally red laser both their heads off if he really wanted to ... his suit lets him learn all fighting styles... without caps shield during the fight... iron man literally could have killed them both with his ion repulser beam from his chest.... he was just angry i guess but damn what a good guy :)
Iron Man tried to burn Bucky's face off in the first few seconds of the fight. Kill or not, that's pretty brutal. He held back from using lethal force on Cap, but he seemed to want to torture Bucky and either kill him or leave him in critical condition.
You've got to love how there are subtle improvements to the Iron Man armor as the films progress. For instance, Tony Stark used to have to remove a face plate to have his face visible whereas his new helmet in the later films simply removes itself autonomously. Iron man 2 shows stark using a beam attack from his wrists that he says he can use only once and then in the later Avengers movies, he can use them more freely. It's never blatantly stated that he makes adjustments to his suit, at least explicitly, so noticing the improvements on his suit adds a layer of continuity and is just fun to see onscreen.
I started thinking about Tony's hand-to-hand combat training recently and looked up videos to see the progression. Sure he has an amazing mechanical suit to take down baddies, but he realized that wasn't enough, and strayed training in hand to hand combat. We really only see one scene of him training when he's boxing with Happy in Iron Man 2, but by Civil War he's able to approach and strike at the Winter Soldier with only a mechanical hand. He knew that when took off the suit, he couldn't just be a genius billionaire playboy philanthropist anymore, he needed to be at his best and mos skilled in order to be a hero. Not to mention that he's not as young as the other Avengers either. I just love seeing the subtle progression and growth in the tiniest things.
Iron Man's kind of a regular human. Whatever enhancements he has are made by himself using science and technology and he is able to remain a regular human biologically. The other Avengers are different.
You know, I really started to miss the more mechanical elements of Iron Man later in the MCU. Really loved when it felt like he was piloting the suit, like a miniaturized anime mecha. The mech-on-mech fights from the first two movies were just awesome.
Has anyone ever noticed that in civil war, iron man uses the same move on cap as he did against killian back at iron man 3 Iron man 3: 8:11 Civil War: 13:00
Stark got ko'd in that scene. It was brave, but ultimately foolish to fight Bucky without a full suit. He could've died a senseless death since Black Panther was already on his way.
Vibranium Shield like Steve Rodgers when he jumped on the (not live) grenade to save a bunch of people who didn't even like him? It wasn't foolish he did what had to be done as Steve did in Captain America The First Avenger
woah you're right. The first movie made it feel really mechanical. But you know what, I think it shows how he's refined the suits and also, I imagine it can get pretty grating for the people working on it to include all those machine whines.
might also say something about how the suit gets less durable from upgrades to make it lighter, i mean super-soldiers seem to create the same effect as Thor in terms of punches. the earlier models could take heavy falls and missiles but by im3, the can be easily broken by super-soldiers less than Thor(presumably)
Daniel Sampong I think the whole thing with the suits flying apart was because they weren't finished models. They were all prototypes. The whole wireless armor thing he integrated in iron man 3 was new, hece why he was testing it out near the start and even then it still didn't work properly. The last finished iron man suit between the avengers and avengers age of ultron was the mark 7 which he used to fight the chitauri army. The next complete suit was the completed version of the mrk 42 which we saw in age of ultron where Tony had gotten the wireless armour to work properly, hence why the armor didn't fall apart. Same with civil war.
I like how Nick Fury later said that Rodes whooped Tony's ass in this scene when clearly Tony mopped the floor with him the most through the whole fight.
tony holds back against bucky and captain america... he could literally red laser both their heads off if he really wanted to ... his suit lets him learn all fighting styles... without caps shield during the fight... iron man literally could have killed them both with his ion repulser beam from his chest.... he was just angry i guess but damn what a good guy :)

i don't like him because he is wrong and an asshole in civil war and an alcoholic and he sucks at fighting and i like characters that are good fighters or have cool but not overpowered superpowers
maybe done on purpose that Iron man was lucky to survive everything (although he Would have died if cap had not saved him from Thor) and then cap beat the shit out of him
Cuz he did not want to kill cap bro..... he just wanted to kill Bucky. Why didn't he just shoot him straight away? Probably he wants to torture him or some shit. Capi protected Bucky so it's hard to get to bucky. Tony and Cap are friends and obviously, they dont wanna kill each other.

Gabe Stein In 3 they gave Tony a scene where he takes out a bunch of guards with nothing but weapons made from scrap.
Nop. Iron man 2 has a weak one-dimensional villain, and Iron man 3 has a weak story structure.
It is very satisfying watching Tony evolve over the course of 8 years.
