I just bout a 2020 Toyota 86GT in ablaze red 3 weeks ago. I’ve always wanted one since I saw one back in 2016 at the Toyota dealership near my house. My dad and I were there getting me a used car for my first car cause I just got my first job. I saw it in the showroom and knew I wanted one. My dad told me if I work hard enough, I can get one of my own. Well, 5 years later, after having a few small jobs from senior year up to end if 2017, got myself a career job in the shipbuilding industry, earn great money, and was finally able to afford my dream car. I got this exact car, except the great white instead of that beautiful blue. I love the 86. Hate how people send so much hate towards it because the low HP. Would it be nice for some more? Absolutely, gonna do exactly that with mine over the next couple years, especially focusing on getting rid of the torque dip between 4k and 5k RPM. But people focus too much on the lack of power of the car to realize how fun it is to drive. It's not a drag car, it's a track car. This car is made for the track, able to hold a constant speed through turns and curves, unlike plenty of cars with a lot of HP with a higher center of gravity than this car. I love reviews like this where they show the great things about the car instead of focusing on the "bad" parts. Overall, though, great car. Great review video
It's a tribute to Toyota sports cars all inclusive. It goes back to the Toyota 2000 introduced in 1967 which is where they drew the inspiration for the shape of the car. This is a modern classic. Handles like nothing else in its class or price.
as a 2017 toyota 86 owner, I completely agree with this review 👍👍👍 so relatable I live in northeast US, so you know what i'm gonna do in the backroads this winter 😏😏😏😏
Wow that 86 feels pretty quick and fast even though people say it’s slow but when you got in the 3rd gear at the beginning of the test drive it rocket out of 1st and 2nd gears
One of the more informative and in-dept reviews/overlook. Absolutely love this video. Watched more than enough about the 86/BRZ and this one doesn't let other videos compete.
Man, Patterson is one of the best driving roads in the Bay Area and I’m lucky enough to live 2 minutes from it. Fantastic review man! Gonna show this to my friend to convince him to get an 86!
I’m an older dude having a BLAST doing the twistties in an around our foothills and National Forest... Only, I opted for the auto with paddles as I can become buried in stop and go traffic. Every time I head out for “THE RIDE” I call it, I discover a new shifting point moving from Hand shifting to paddle shifting. At my age, I suppose Professional track drivers only use automatic these days. I would humbly suggest the 86 auto shift/Manual offers tons of control when entering a tight mountain road corner. The auto’s gear-down entering a corner in rapid succession if done too fast, too quick for too long can honestly cause upset stomach and headache setting in. Moving at 50 into a 20/25 MPH corner repeatedly left to right 100 yards then hard turn wears you out. I leave traction control on due to suddenly finding myself on serious sandy slippery covered pavement as the VSS kicks in to save me from going over the edge. Honestly guys, I can only stand maybe 2 to 3 miles of this wicked performance driving as this car sticks like glue on the road. If I were to have more power, more cornering capability-I would probably kill myself and lie trapped inside with hardly anyone noticing. Its over a 100 degrees this second. MY 86 OUT-COOLS Miata soft-top in a SERIOUS WAY! The air conditioner is simply marvelous. Do the back of hand test against the Miatas soft top then compare the 86 interior headliner hardtop. How can I describe convection oven broiling the top of you’er head on a hot summers day. Only downside. Previous back injuries have me stopping the 86 and doing stretching exercises ever 40 minutes. I set my cell phone alarm to remind me. Stereo: This Gentlemen Reviewer is exactly right on. I become so involved in my focused driving I rarely run my radio. Apply play? Pooh!!! I’m too focused on my enjoyable ride, I’m focused on being in the city going fast without honestly going “That-Fast” as say a Dodge Challenger SRT I drove before test driving the 86. Regards Premium Unleaded-it only amounts to a couple of bucks every month. I don’t care. Interior Room: Gigantic as compared to Miata. Your passenger will fully appreciate to roominess. 2019 Toyota 86 Base. Nothing fancy. Pure Fun
Love it when someone pulls up to me tryna race me thinking Im bone stock lol... that feeling when you're "slow" BRZ is all of sudden faster than an STI hahaha Sprintex Supercharger all day!!!
Fun video! So nice to see someone who gets this car! Have had my FR-S for 4 years now and was thinking about trading it in for a new Miata. But then I took a long ride on one of the great twisty up and down mountain roads we have out here in Arizona and just thought wow, I’m not done with this car yet!

Excellent video! I have a 2013 FRS in Firestorm red that I bought new off the lot. (got a killer deal on it) I have daily driven it here outside Buffalo NY ever since. Got a nice set of snows for the chilly months and a nice set of summers for the good times. I have never had a problem with it in any weather. I'm pushing about 60k miles on it and have loved every minute! I don't track it but have several "twisty" routes that I take whenever I can. I've had faster cars but none as much fun as this one. Keep up the vids!
A set of sticky tires makes all the difference. I went to a set of Michelin PS4S and it transforms the car. Turn in is immediate and the car feels more direct and rolls less. As fun as the stock tires are for sliding, when you want confidence in corners the primacys don't have the grip.
man, i LOVE THIS CAR! it purrs like it’s ready to pounce when you rev it, i’m in love with that sound 🤤 i’m gonna own one of these someday! great review!
@@RaitisRides I had the original 85 TwinCam 16 valve ae86 for many years and I can tell you that the seats were better than any overpriced Recaros. The driver's seat had adjustable side bolsters and a hand pump bladder for lumbar support. Used to drive it from Montreal to Tampa in 24 hours and then go clubbing. No back pain! The engine would wind out similar to a superbike with absolutely no vibration or harshness. It was as fun as my base 2007 323i stick.
i’m glad watching these types of vids jus because i recently purchased an 86 but 2017 year and its relative to me. i love hearing about other’s opinions on the car itself because anyone can go on the internet and review a car jus by lookin at it but aside that, you & a select few of others that actually take the car for a drive and not judging the car by its appearance, the results wouldn’t be as bad. AND I LOVE IT
Love the Video....I enjoy my BRZ every time I’m in it. The BRZ and 86 really are amazing sports. It’s a rare car where I live and that was exactly why I got it. No regrets with my car just driving too and from work is exciting. I get so many compliments.

I really wanted to buy one of these but the wrx gives you more for the same money. Confidence inspiring awd, usable rear seats, 100 lb ft more torque, apple car play, etc.
I wish you would get a body cam or something so we can get a clear view of the interior. Your camera man standing outside shooting and all we see is side view of the interior. Most of the things you point at we dont see it because we dont have a first person view like you do
I’m not being a “smarty-Pants” But, why couldn’t you just go and test drive an 86? Please forgive me in advance if you are employed overseas on assignment. If thats the case. Disregard my comment.

absolutely nailed it when driving it. I have had one of these bad boys for 2 years and while i do ADORE the thrill on bends, this car NEEDS power which is why ive pulled the plug on a supercharger.
Nice price, nice seats, pretty doors, nice design to the vehicle but the exterior color belongs in zonkville. Excellent presentation once again young man! You should go on a speaking tour helping others do these kinds of videos.
It was my dream car when I first saw it in middle school and I graduated high school last year and I own one to this day. Never stop dreaming you can actually do it just save and save
I started with a 2015 asphalt FR-S, then traded it on a 2017 Halo 86. Then I traded that on 2019 86 TRD SE. I drive’em like I stole’em! It would be nice to get rid of the torque lag around 3-4,000 rpm because then it would be a much smoother drive! More horsepower isn’t necessary because it handles so nice... such a fun car to drive!!! So needless to say, I’m in!
The Toyota GT86/BRZ is one of the last PURE SPORTS CARS of the world People who don't understand too much about cars, thinks at a sport car is just a fast ca or car with tons of HP.. Is not like this. Even Ferraris and Lamborghinis are not real sports cars anymore. Are super performance cars with automatic transmission and tons of electronic driving aids (In other way, only a F1 pilot is capable to drive one of that machines). Muscles are not sports too, too big, too heavy, four seats and a lot of electronic aids to keep them in the road. A real sport car need to have : RWD, Naturally Aspired Engine, Manual Transmission, 2 seats, and need to be capable to be driven without any electronic driving aids. That is sport Doesn't matter if you crazy fast or not. A Porsche Cayenne reach 260 Km/h and is not a sport car. Are a overpowered SUV.

Out of the box, it may not be fast in a straight run but we spent 10 days in the mountains of TN & NC where we hit some good twistie runs (dragons tail, cherahola, moonshiners 28 et.al.) and I was blown away by the cars handling. Ive owned Corvettes and this car handles better than most if not all of them in the twisties. I am about to pull the trigger on a 5k super charger add on that will ad 70HP. I honestly love the 86. It truly makes driving fun again.
Love this review. One suggestion, when you're giving detail of interior design and features, you should show up close rather than from those short distances. Maybe wear a gopro on your head or something. Love your enthusiasm and keep up the great work!!!

@@Tragic387 not only that, 3.8 is tune happy and easy to more power and speed with it. Very drift friendly and just super fun to drive. It's the father of the Stinger/G70 after all.
Those fake vents are actually better referred to as "stand by" vents. So you can punch real holes into them if you tune the car to have more power and it becomes "necessary" to have vents there. The new Supra has many of those "stand by" vents.
I love your videos, I came from a gt86 and now I have a Shelby gt350. Can’t say i miss it but I def do miss the fact that I can just power through all gears. Hopefully the 86 owners don’t get mad at me for saying this but it’s true even w a turbo kit, it’s still not enough for some people.
Hello Joe it sounds absolutely amazing and drives pretty good. Also love your enthusiasm nowadays. I would buy a 2019 Toyota 86 GT actually if I had the money. I would still love to see the review of the 2019 Toyota Camry XSE V6 in white and black with the red interior. Thanks Joe.
Another great video review as always. I have a question for you. Would you recommend the Toyota 86 or the Ford Mustang since they're both in the similar price range? Thanks!
I think if Joe gathers the designers of the cars he reviews, they will be convinced to discover something new which they didn't know they designed! Hahahahahhah
I would pick the Miata, I'm finding 2019 miatas cheaper than the 86. I believe the Miata platform will overall have better support in the aftermarket. I do enjoy the top down fun, the newer engine changes is an improvement. The powerband is better overall, the interior quality is better. I also heard from another guy I could buy a sport trim and pay less than $1000 to get the lsd added
Love my GT 86. My mate said "looks like it's moving when it's still" and I said, it's about as fast in a straight line lol Thing I love is I live (and almost exclusively drive) in a CBD so I don't have to get stupid dangerous illegal to enjoy the limits round urban roundabouts or corners, unlike faster cars that you need to track.
When you see how close together the handbreak and the shifter is you know what this car is about!!

It's a tribute to Toyota sports cars all inclusive. It goes back to the Toyota 2000 introduced in 1967 which is where they drew the inspiration for the shape of the car. This is a modern classic. Handles like nothing else in its class or price.
You hit the nail on the head!
True, but the Miata suspension design is far superior in adjustments
I bought a 86 GT month ago . It's a great fun to drive car. Great video!
"you get to work for it and show what you're able to do. Not what the car can do in a straight line". Perfectly sums up the 86 platform.
as a 2017 toyota 86 owner, I completely agree with this review 👍👍👍 so relatable
I live in northeast US, so you know what i'm gonna do in the backroads this winter 😏😏😏😏
Thanks for letting me share it with you!
I live in Cali and the roads here are awesome with this car!
Wow that 86 feels pretty quick and fast even though people say it’s slow but when you got in the 3rd gear at the beginning of the test drive it rocket out of 1st and 2nd gears
Thanks for letting me share it with you!
One of the more informative and in-dept reviews/overlook. Absolutely love this video. Watched more than enough about the 86/BRZ and this one doesn't let other videos compete.
Outstanding video Joe! I'd love to own a Toyota 86 or Subaru BRZ and am glad that they do not have a turbo engine.
man i just love how interested and excited you sound
You called it a BRZ at 16:00. I think everyone does that. 🤣
LMAO! Now that is funny! Maybe I did that to see if you were paying attention Frank.
@@RaitisRides 😂
That's pretty funny! I'm getting a BRZ and can't wait. This was a great review.
@@natefoldan you don't want to wait for the new one coming soon?
@@CarStory That'd be great, but I can only afford a used one at this time. Probably going to get a 2014
Man, Patterson is one of the best driving roads in the Bay Area and I’m lucky enough to live 2 minutes from it.
Pure Fun
Thank you for that awesome input from your ownership experience! You hit the nail on the head!
You know it’s a fun car when you see that biiiiiig smile on his face. Awesome video!
Love your videos! Hello from Sothern California
Thanks for saying that and for watching! I really appreciate your support!
The smile says it all. I smile all the time in my 2013 FRS. It's a toy for an adult. I love it.
Love it when someone pulls up to me tryna race me thinking Im bone stock lol... that feeling when you're "slow" BRZ is all of sudden faster than an STI hahaha
Sprintex Supercharger all day!!!
Well done!
Fun video! So nice to see someone who gets this car! Have had my FR-S for 4 years now and was thinking about trading it in for a new Miata. But then I took a long ride on one of the great twisty up and down mountain roads we have out here in Arizona and just thought wow, I’m not done with this car yet!
I totally know why after enjoying this one!
I love my 2019 TRD 86. Best purchase in my life
I’m planning on getting one from a previous owner. Are these cars realiable when purchased used?
@@reuben3157 Got mine used, so I'd say so. Just be careful about getting a 2013 model. If those have had an engine recall, they aren't the most reliable. All other model years are good tho
That paint job is STUNNING!!! love the way how under the hood is designed. Old school look and less plastic covering is a must!
It totally pops off the screen!
He’s like the Guy Fieri of cars. Like, when he finally drives it and describes it, it’s like when Guy takes a bite of a delicious meal you’ve been watching get prepared during the show.🥓🌭🍔
Excellent video!
Thanks for sharing those great points!
I like your driving skills! Well done!
It's a fun little car. I know: I own one. And I love it!
You are so very right!
A set of sticky tires makes all the difference. I went to a set of Michelin PS4S and it transforms the car. Turn in is immediate and the car feels more direct and rolls less.
As fun as the stock tires are for sliding, when you want confidence in corners the primacys don't have the grip.
AGREED!
man, i LOVE THIS CAR! it purrs like it’s ready to pounce when you rev it, i’m in love with that sound 🤤 i’m gonna own one of these someday! great review!
Seeing this man smile and drive is the best for some reason hahaa
On point about the steering.. love this car.
Thanks for saying that and sharing your thoughts!
They massively improved the seats from the original FRs
I totally agree with you!
@@taichiforever5712I’m pretty sure recardos ain’t to daily, you’ll feel those seats while your up at the canyons or a track
i’m glad watching these types of vids jus because i recently purchased an 86 but 2017 year and its relative to me. i love hearing about other’s opinions on the car itself because anyone can go on the internet and review a car jus by lookin at it but aside that, you & a select few of others that actually take the car for a drive and not judging the car by its appearance, the results wouldn’t be as bad. AND I LOVE IT
You are so are very awesome!

Joe you keep grinding out these quality videos ! Always look forward to the uploads. I hope you are enjoying your new STI!
Thanks for saying that! I really appreciate your support! I am in love with my Type RA!
Love the Video....I enjoy my BRZ every time I’m in it. The BRZ and 86 really are amazing sports. It’s a rare car where I live and that was exactly why I got it. No regrets with my car just driving too and from work is exciting. I get so many compliments.
Thanks for sharing that owner input!
Great review, Joe. One of the best for the 86 platform, and that’s saying a lot as there are a helluvah a lot of these accumulated reviews on RUclips.
Thanks Joe! That really means a lot!
Got this as my first car and I love it, handles corners so well and its so fun going quickly around them.
I totally agree with you!
Can 4 people travel together in 86????
@@nataliaprzybysz3425 lmao
This car functions as a sports car. Not the type of car that make you look sporty outside but no manual shifting or handbrake. (referring to supra)
i have a 2018 86, it’s my daily and honestly it’s the perfect car, even tho mine is lowered by a lot cuz static life but still super in love with it and it never gets old driving
I really wanted to buy one of these but the wrx gives you more for the same money. Confidence inspiring awd, usable rear seats, 100 lb ft more torque, apple car play, etc.
AGREED!
That colour is WICKED! Good lord ... Great overview and appreciate the history of the vehicle at the beginning, very thorough.
Thanks for the compliment and you are so right about the color!
I wish you would get a body cam or something so we can get a clear view of the interior. Your camera man standing outside shooting and all we see is side view of the interior. Most of the things you point at we dont see it because we dont have a first person view like you do
My man camera man will be back soon! I am sorry about that!
All good raiti but that’s true 🤔
I’m not being a “smarty-Pants”
But, why couldn’t you just go and test drive an 86? Please forgive me in advance if you are employed overseas on assignment. If thats the case. Disregard my comment.
I hope the second generation of 86/Brz will still be good looking I fell in love with this cars since it came out in 2012 and it's my dream car and hope to buy it in the future. Can't wait 2021 to see the second gen. Seeing Joe enjoy this ride makes me smile. Keep it up nice review again!
I totally agree with you! I am curious to see what the second generation will bring! Thanks for the compliments!
The head engineer of the 86 said that the next 86 will surpass the Supra.
Finally, I absolutely need to know where Joe found a twisty road in flat Florida! 😎
I know some good ones! ;-)
Love what you do, man. Keep it up! You're one of my favorites on here.
absolutely nailed it when driving it.
I hope to buy a toyota 86 or a scion frs one day!
You can do it Kevin!
You can get on brand new if you work a min wage job full time. I am a student and buying one later this year. It's very do able
Yeah man they are affordable. I have a 2016 with 35k miles and am trying to sell it for 16k
It was my dream car when I first saw it in middle school and I graduated high school last year and I own one to this day. Never stop dreaming you can actually do it just save and save
You can get a really good price on earlier models with higher miles. That's how I got mine lol.
The Toyota GT86/BRZ is one of the last PURE SPORTS CARS of the world
People who don't understand too much about cars, thinks at a sport car is just a fast ca or car with tons of HP..
That is sport
Doesn't matter if you crazy fast or not. A Porsche Cayenne reach 260 Km/h and is not a sport car. Are a overpowered SUV.
Don't forget about the 370z
Gaston Maqueda what is the difference between the stock model and a GT? I looked on line but everything was the same on the specs that I saw.
@@judethree4405
Just cosmetic stuff, seat heater, fog lights and a better air aconditioner controls. (The BRZ comes with all that)
No difference in performance
bought this car & have had it for a barely a month & i’m in love.
Bought a 2020 GT two weeks ago and I LOVE IT!!!!
How is it treating you now? im thinking on getting one
@@nathanjualin2118 been six months now and love it. Taking it to NC to hit some twisties next month. I get compliments on the car everywhere I go.
@@DrumCoversbyBill it looks like a super car no cap I only wish it had 300 hp but regardless of the hp it’s a beautiful car and do other cars wanna race you
@@kingbutters2721 I've had the car for months now and love it.
Thanks for the suggestion! My main camera man Tom will be back soon!
For me its last best handling sports car you could ever get with RWD,6 speed manual, and a durable engine, last best sports car for me
I always like your honest reviews
Thanks for saying that!
11:15 what the heck is that thing bulging out of the dashboard?
A bump pad!
I've had my 10 series FRS 2013 for awhile now and I love it. I don't need more power. It's perfect and fun every time I get in it. It's like being a kid again with a go-cart.

Can you please do a review on the Genesis Coupe 3.8 (2nd gen, 2012~2016)
I will try to track one down for you!
@@RaitisRides you're the best. That will be awesome.👍
Had the 2.0, drove a 16’ 3.8. Interior, power. Would way rather buy over a mustang. It’s basically a Korean mustang
@@Tragic387 not only that, 3.8 is tune happy and easy to more power and speed with it. Very drift friendly and just super fun to drive. It's the father of the Stinger/G70 after all.
Just got mine I'm absolutely in love with it
Congrats!
@@RaitisRides Thanks!
You guys know that you can get a manual in the Toyota Tacoma(new)?
Those fake vents are actually better referred to as "stand by" vents. So you can punch real holes into them if you tune the car to have more power and it becomes "necessary" to have vents there. The new Supra has many of those "stand by" vents.
Very good point!
That colour is just wow! 😍
It really pops!
I like that you do your research man!
Thanks that really means a lot!
The Gt86 is my dream car damn
It is really sweet!
I love your videos, I came from a gt86 and now I have a Shelby gt350. Can’t say i miss it but I def do miss the fact that I can just power through all gears. Hopefully the 86 owners don’t get mad at me for saying this but it’s true even w a turbo kit, it’s still not enough for some people.
absolute love this small sports car.
Same here!
I have a 2013 frs.. I was thinking of starting to post vids about it
Hello Joe it sounds absolutely amazing and drives pretty good. Also love your enthusiasm nowadays. I would buy a 2019 Toyota 86 GT actually if I had the money. I would still love to see the review of the 2019 Toyota Camry XSE V6 in white and black with the red interior. Thanks Joe.

Grazie senor. It IS a great FUN car. So light and nimble.
Another great video review as always. I have a question for you. Would you recommend the Toyota 86 or the Ford Mustang since they're both in the similar price range? Thanks!
That is a touch question! They could not be more different from on another. You have to take them for a drive to really decide.
I own a BRZ and love driving it on the curves on the way to work and back
I know how you feel Luis!
I think if Joe gathers the designers of the cars he reviews, they will be convinced to discover something new which they didn't know they designed! Hahahahahhah
You are awesome! Thanks for saying that!
Even I'm smiling watching you enjoy the drive!
Thanks for letting me share it with you!
This or a Mazda MX5?🤔 nice job Joe! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
It would be a tough choice!
I ended up going with a 19 Miata RF, I feel no regret.
Andre Cuevas Congrats!
Toyota 86
Love my GT 86. My mate said "looks like it's moving when it's still" and I said, it's about as fast in a straight line lol Thing I love is I live (and almost exclusively drive) in a CBD so I don't have to get stupid dangerous illegal to enjoy the limits round urban roundabouts or corners, unlike faster cars that you need to track.
