As someone who daily’s the TRD 86 I’m confident in saying that it’s one of the best cars I have ever had the pleasure of owning. It’s easy to drive, confidence inspiring and it’s wonderful to be a little naughty in. I absolutely adore it and plan on keeping it forever. Thank you for making this review Twas a fun watch. That infotainment screen reminds me of the cool aftermarket stereo head units you use to buy from Best Buy in the..... now I am making myself feel old. 😞
Sarah's just fine. She just wants to do the best videos possible. Now, if she puts a wig on a coconut and starts taking it on video shoots, it's time to worry 😀

I own a 2019 Gt86 Trd and I love it!! The 4 grand was well worth it!! Handles so well in corners and elminated the torque dip with a header and a tune and it’s so fun to drive!
@@Tsalinger The FA20 in the FRS/BRZ don't have head gasket issues. You're thinking of the old EJ motors which DID have head gasket issues. Tons of these cars are at over 200k+ miles now and all of them are going strong.

Great comprehensive review of the 86... definitely 1 Hugo Mega Plus Grosse Grande Bean if not 4 full beans. Your Chicken Wing analogy was crazy bad ass funny!
Wonderful review Sarah! I’ve owned my FRS Auto for 5 years and you may be the first reviewer that said anything positive about the auto box. I have added a full exhaust with a UEL header and a tune and my car flys and sounds beastly compared to stock. Can’t wait to see more updates on the MR2.
your video production quality has grown to such a professional level, seriously beautiful camera work. watching the shots of you exiting the warehouse, I'm like she had a pro shot this..like those cigarettes from virginia, you've come a long way baby!
Very good point- The purpose pf the 86 is not what it is, its what it can be. What you can make it into to fit your needs and taste. Its a solid blank canvas.
Thanks for not being a stick shift snob. I still drive a stick, and prefer it over a "autobox" as our British friends say. It really depends on the car, engine, and personal taste. Our freeway cruiser, the Honda Accord, of course has a automatic, and it works great. My small car has a stick and love it as well. Thanks, great review. Also, thanks for including the video of you trying to get in and out of the back seat (if you can all it that). You are so right, not every car is a fire breather regarding horse power. Someone once said, "Its more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow" Keep up the good work. Fun, fun, fun.
I had a BRZ manual as a loaner once when my Outback was in service. It was a riot! If you weren’t trying to pass someone on the highway, it didn’t feel underpowered. Sure, more horsepower would of course be awesome, but it is a ridiculously fun car to drive. I didn’t want to give it back when my Outback was fixed!
Great video Sarah. Love all the puns. There’s a lot of unnecessary hate in the car world. People should just be happy with what they drive as all cars are built differently for different needs. Sarah, you're the only car reviewer who talks to birds. That's just a small part of your appeal to viewers. I also appreciate your explanation of exhaust manifold tuning, as it relates to Subaru's unique sound. Keep up the great work. Love your channel.
I have only seen reviews of the TRD version until now, and frankly I thought the BRZ version was more impressive because of it's interior. This version of the 86 is actually more appealing to me. The TRD has that funny retro striping that seems already dated instead of cool and modern. This version has lesser options, but the price is more inviting, and that paint job is a lot more sleek and stylish. I would actually get one of these over the TRD version, but a BRZ over this.
This chick's actually funny as! I loved it how she read the torque specs and difference between the equal and unequal manifolds like a robot, because I think in all honesty most of us really only know how to quote the article we read the explanation from word-for-word, and not to explain it in our own words and reverse-engineer it..

Great point about the EVOLUTION of Japanese sports cars and how the aging platforms offer the best of the design at the end of its lifestyle.....I agree! Great whimsical review as always!
Hi Sarah , Great review as usual! I think the newer style nose kinda looks like a constipated catfish 🐟Have had my 2015 FR-S auto for 4 years now . Got the auto because I used to live in N.Y. Manual sucks in traffic . Also I’m a truck driver and have done a lifetime worth of shifting ! Plus it’s a great auto and you can play stick by putting it in manual mode. And as you noticed you can almost shift it with your foot , holds a gear till redline. Will even rev match and downshift by itself if you hit the brakes hard before a turn when in sport mode. A UEL header helps with low end torque. That with a tune and Borla exhaust really woke it up! And probably my neighbors sometimes 🏎💨😁
I 😍 Love your videos! I have a 2014 FR-S. They are made to enter the back seat on the passenger side, because of the steering wheel, the seat moves, and tilts further forward. The transmission does better than human shifting in auto W/ sport mode. Their's no lag between 3 and 4 thousand rpm. This is cuz the computer knows about it. it predicts your next move and is good at it! Their's always the option to move the shifter to manual at any time, or back to auto! It's fun to drive! It's ready to a large selection of Bolt on upgrades! Thanks for sharing with us!
The stock header is a garbage design that leaves a lot to be desired, despite being an equal length design. If you upgrade to an aftermarket header with a tune, you can pickup around 15-20 peak hp and 10-15 peak tq. This doesn't tell the entire story thought, you pickup 20tq in the dreaded midrange dead zone and this makes the car feel COMPLETELY different. E85 is readily available in my area, and it really kicks things up a notch. I highly recommend it.
As a current owner of a daily driven 2013 FR-S,the car needs more power and more torque. Nothing crazy, maybe 225 to the wheels(remember,200 is to the crank, which ends up around 170-180 to the wheels depending on your altitude) and 200+ torque. Get the car off of those skinny Prius tires as well and you'll have a truly legit car that isn't too much for inexperienced drivers, but still fun for the initiated. PS:the catfish mouth grill needs to go asap.
Thanks Sarah! Love your perspective! Appreciate your automotive knowledge and mechanical experience and skills. Enjoy your quirkiness and humour! You're a 5 out of 5 beans ! 🖐🏻

Hopefully you get a chance to drive a 17+ manual car. The 4.3FD with shorter gearing helps to wake up the car over the older 4.1. Especially compared to the auto which have much longer gearing.
My guess about the loud bird, is that the bird (most likely the male of a nesting pair) is trying to drive you off. When you think about it, you are in a place probably no other person has been in quite some time,,,,and on top of it you brought some huge insect that makes growling noises,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,so yeah.

You have awesome reviews... I wish you had a Beans Chart so we could look at what got the best scores in different car segments. ... One Question... For a daily driver, no track use, what would you pick to drive yourself between these three cars ??? Honda SI, Mazda Miata, Toyota 86 all in a manual, all purchased brand new in 2020 models
It seems like the car wasn't that exciting so we got Sarah personality turned up to 11. This might be one of those times where more of a good thing is a great thing. At the same time I also worry that the relentless demand to produce content and feed the Tubes is burning up the clutch to reality. We should coordinate an effort to drop a few spa passes in the next mail day.
After driving one I just wish they put a small turbo motor in it like the Fiesta ST had. Something torquey and has low end punch. Still will be slow but gives the illusion of quick which would be nice over the N/A it has now...
As for vehicle type, not my cup of tea, but a good fun review. As for getting distracted by animals, I do too. The other day I had to swerve around a snapping turtle in the road while I was watching the bald eagle fly overhead, luckily not much traffic around at the time.
xD The bird conversation was just hilarious haahahaha. You're kind of like me Sarah, talking to about everything as if it'd talk back to you... Good to know I'm not the only crazy-person around here :P
I'm thinking about getting a Scion FR-S. I found a really clean one with low mileage. It is an intriguing car that reminds me of the 1973 Celica. I like the idea of a tuner car because I like to modify stuff...

... One Question... For a daily driver, no track use, what would you pick to drive yourself between these three cars ???
Honda SI, Mazda Miata, Toyota 86 all in a manual, all purchased brand new in 2020 models
My favourite head unit
Florida?
Says Mr2, DOESN'T use pic of her own personal Mr2, true American hero you are
You are awesome Sarah! :)
xD The bird conversation was just hilarious haahahaha. You're kind of like me Sarah, talking to about everything as if it'd talk back to you...
Good to know I'm not the only crazy-person around here :P
Interesting times we live in..
Celica's from Subaru
Supra's from BMW
Mr2 from... Tesla?
It's a 2+2 but it's like a mustang or camaro. Its not actually supposed to seat 4.... it just makes insurance rates less 😂
Insurance in the US is a scam anyways.
Yes, i think the backseats are for emergencies only.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, you are too funny and have a great sense of humour 😂
If I remember correctly, it actually is the dual clutch auto out of the Lexus IS350
Sarah, did you say "turn off the TRASH control fully" 5:32?
Another great review. Love your humor, keep it up!!
I'm thinking about getting a Scion FR-S. I found a really clean one with low mileage. It is an intriguing car that reminds me of the 1973 Celica. I like the idea of a tuner car because I like to modify stuff...
