Don’t worry about the length of the videos! If other people are interested in doing a LS swap like I am, the harness is the most intimidating part and it’s super valuable content to have someone literally go step by step through it, to show it’s not THAT complicated. I’m interested in swapping into an E30 and I feel like the harness part of the swap gets breezed over in most write ups.
A lot of this is "familurizing" ones self as to the lay of the land so to speak. Each sensor, its name, its location etc. slowly eliminating the apprehension of all the wiring. Knowledge eliminates all fear. Thanks JR, a novice cant see enough of this, rinse, repeat.
I have worked as heavy equipment mechanic for many years as it was easy to go to some logging camp and go to work fixing on anything from the crew buses to machines that pull logs out of the woods. Out in this situation most equipment is old and I fit right in but now this stuff here that you just worked on is ten to twenty five years and that old again. In other words, If I was still able to work as I got crippled up fifteen years ago and youtube and a bed is my life. I can use crutches now but who hires a guy who can't carry his own tools. I am also 72 years of age... I built hot rods and fast cars and trucks, rode my harley till just a few years ago but using a crutch to hold the bike up was just getting too hard. I had a trike as well but I couldn't carry my tools ... I was a big strong guy who did just about anything I wanted to and then life turns a one eighty on me. Guy fell from his roof and would die so I reach out and caught the three hundred pound fellow and it tore his tee shirt pocket. I woke up in a hospital with a broken neck, and lumbar was "fubar" or from L2 through L5 were broken and more than just once. Doctors know a good thing and operate on me several times before they find the one link that would of fixed me but because of all the surgeries, no can do. NOW... as a mechanic if you break something of someones rig, you fix it if you are a decent person but doctors go ...oops. I turned on closed captions so I could poss the video and read it and start to understand this stuff and it makes perfect sense. I loved working and working on old trucks or cars were my jam. I just never got to this part and when I look under the hood, it looks too scary to proceed any further... that is till now. Its actually easier than say older stuff that your trying to get rolling. No plugged up carb cause it sat too long or other .... thank you for making it so damn simple. I have tons to say but your not going to read someone whine about his dicked up life.
Yeah man sets realistic ecspectations some people edit videos so much they will set a wire harness on a engine and it looks like it Harry Potters it's self into place. You did it one handed there is also that.
People think it's so complicated because it's computerized and EFI but it's really not much harder than an old SBC. Oh and makes 100 more HP straight out the junkyard.
Son of a B. I didn't realize it was this easy. A simple wiring diagram and your video makes it possible to do this in just about anything. FML now I'm gonna be sitting here thinking how to swap out my riding lawn mower. Seriously. You make it that straight forward. THANKS for the kick in the brain to think for myself a little. 👍👍👍

I acquired a 99’ S10 for a dollar. Body and interior nearly perfect. The 4 banger didn’t run but only had 88k on it so I delved into the 2.2 and got it running pretty good. Maybe $500 in parts for essentially replacing the entire fuel system. I swore if I had to do one more thing I’d throw a 350 in it, but as I watch more of these vids like yours I realize the LS route can actually be simpler and less expensive than going with a carbed 350! So, when/ if I ever go horsepower greedy, which I probably will I absolutely certain I’ll go LS style and now that I have screwed with fuel injectors and the harness a little bit I really think it is doable. Good vid Man, thanks
Great video! I did a similar install from a 2001 to my 55 Chevy truck. I used the entire harness - still working on it, but it can be done! For me the biggest issue was getting the entire harness off the donor and mounting the body computer and interior fuse block/patch panels. I had to so things like patched the turn signal wires to my new column, stop light switch, etc. What made it work for me was having access to the donor trucks wiring schematic. Still in progress but going great, especially with the Dakota Digital instrument cluster which uses the PCM for most of the gauges. Oh, it cranked right up with no changes to the PCM. Amazing !
i understand the crowd your speaking of when you say people only want to watch very little of the video before being disinterested but i promise that nobody is searching how to do a LS swap (let alone the harness) and expecting a 3 minute video 😂
Thank you for the tutorial, I am actually looking forward to swapping out a tired 260k mile 4.3 in favor of something much better. This was really my only apprehension, and yes I could have figured it out in a few hours, but I like to watch how it’s done first. Thank you brother.
After I spent so much time tearing my harnes apart then doing all the stuff the intnernet said. It’s was like only removing 3 wires from the harnes. It could have been left alone. All the computer stuff could be dealt with. And any extra wires can just stay there. Honestly the factory loom is better than my jank tape job
As an aside, I do like what you've done with the pneumatic casters on that engine hoist. What a great idea. I have some of those under a 55gal barrel rig and it has blown out the tubes and tires because of the weight and UV and I've gone back and got the solid rubber wheels and haven't looked back. Also, I pulled a 4L80E today based on your past videos and I appreciate the low buck commentary. Mine is going behind a 5.3 in a 92 Merc R129.

@@trashbandit2449 I'm thinking the 5.3 in stock form will be okay bolted to a Mendeola 2D. But first I have to go through all of JR's videos to learn more about the drive by wire and what I need for a 2006 harness and and Daryl's fuel system. Plus I know Peanut but I don't know the other dog's name so there's lots to do.
@@tonyholliday6492 haha I would vote DBC unless you want cruise control, it's slightly more simple (but not much). Too bad all the porsche transaxles, even though some are cheap, the adapter kits are stupid expensive. The transaxle you have is still pretty expensive, hopefully the torque from the 5.3 isn't too much. Mendeola s4 in the future? Is this a long travel? If so, one of my dream builds. Can't justify building one right now because they're expensive for someone who lives nowhere near dunes or desert.
Hey what’s up. I watched entire video. You have no ads. Thank you. I’m asking about the fuel pump wiring from the fuse box. Is there anyway to rewire from the fuse box for a external fuel pump using the same fuse and relay. Is the fuel gauge also wired in the same fuse for the pump?? Thanks man. You guys make it look so easy. I look at it and see a hairbrain mess lol. Stay safe driveway!!!
You can use the stock truck relay in the box to run whatever pump you want, I actually use it to run two pumps. The gauge will be completely separate from this harness
@@TheDrivewayEngineer. Ok hey thanks for the info. I’ve watched other videos for wiring a external pump and they rig up all new wiring for the pump but put a relay from the stock wiring from stock intank pump that’s switched to activate the external pump. Not a bad idea. Thanks again for replying I’ll look at the fuse box and see what it takes.

Your right ! its just wires and connectors . Don't overthink it and save some money. It makes perfect sense 😊.Question. can i use this harness in a 6 speed 94 lt1 firebird formula? Planning to Ls swap in the future.
I bought a 68' chevy C-10 not running but has a 5.3 vortec with transmission from a 04 Silverado in it, the previous owner connected nothing. It has all wiring but no fuse box, what do I need to do to get it started??
I just picked up a 1983 coupe devill with a blown stock engine. been sitting since 1992 in a barn with beautiful original interior! i have a running donor truck with TBI its a 1991 C1500 was going to use the 305 and transmission 700r4 into the caddy since the truck its self is a rotted frame shitbox. but good power train I paid $500 for the entire truck. not sure if i wana go with the trucks guts or go LS. its a hard call cause the truck i already have and the LS i would have to aquire with additional cost
I'm a die hard small block guy, cheap and simple, but the LS has it's benefits, each to your own authority, but a carburetor and HEI distributor is the best setup in the world, my 81 Malibu years ago on a budget had a Edelbrock performer kit, 350 with cam and intake, and 600 carb, long tube headers, turbo 350 tranny with 2.94 gears, it ran 14.01 quarter mile at 92mph, and the best part it got 25 mpg, I gave it a total make over, but it's going back to being just a good driver again soon, stay strong God bless
Thanks Brother! So my question is. If I have the complete setup. I’m taking everything from trans to engine and pedal assembly. I did a job and the guy told me if i stripped the vehicle, so he could scrap it. I can take everything I need for the swap. I did just that. I even took the engine mounts. My question is. Since I didn’t cut any wires except once they passed the rear doors. Do I have to still delete the vats? My idea is to plug and play everything. I’m also thinking of modifying the climate and heat control since I have that too.
I thank you very much for sharing your experience with us ya made it easy to understand and workable ya Don,t have to be a rocket scientist to do this with what ya done is all l need to do mine bought extra truck for the harness wrong got all l need by your way mine is going in 1949 dodge 3 ton water truck 6.o litre same shit different pile to haul our water for our house took out hole motor and tranny so lve got this thanks again for your help l,m on board signed up for more to come so from Canada 🇨🇦 SK later 😊l just found ya hopefully ya still around keep up the great work
The reason people get a holly is they don’t have to mess with the immobilizer, it’s not just for the harness. The holly also comes with a tuner, nitrous/turbo controls, a little screen, and a wideband.
You still need to reprogram your PCM to remove the VATs correct? Doing a 6.0 and 4L80e swap in an 85 squarebody dually. Have the 05 silverado complete for the swap.
Advice. I got the entire truck for 1k. Took the motor and tranny out with all the wires and ecm and little box above the brake booster right down to the fuse box. The truck wasn't 4wd but I traded trannys with one with 4wd and even has the transfer case to. But my harness didn't come with the back part of the harness that hooks into the transmission and transfer case. The truck its going into has 4wd but was only a 4l60e and I got the 4l80e to go in. Whats the harness part I need to fix this problem please? Sorry so long.
Can’t wait to yank my 5.3 and wire it up this gave hella confidence! Question when I yank the motor and have it in my fox how can I delete vats? I saw a video on deleting vats by using someone else’s truck then disconnect battery unhook the stick ecm then hook up the one you will use turn on the car turn off for 10 minutes and do that 10 minutes the bcm relearns it or something so no key chip needed
I am fixing to do this exact thing. I will be taking my 6.0/trans, harness, ECU, fuse block, etc.; the whole package and transfer it to a square body. The ECU, engine and trans don’t know what vehicle it’s in! Any sensors and connectors I’m not using I will simply remove. (Edit: since I am taking everything out of my own truck, wouldn’t I be able to leave my harness completely attached to the engine and trans, and just disconnect everything around it?)
I bet them neighbors hate you😂
That's awesome!

Ok thanks. I
Never done this so yes I will watch another time when I am doing it.
Thanks for taking the time to explore this
I watched it straight through because you intimidated me hahaha. And you're right I'll be watching it again. Perfect timing for this video I'm installing a 5 3 in the back of my Baja Bug to swap out that Eco turd. Thanks man
Make a video on the 5.3 bug when you're done, those are super cool especially with an LS. What transmission are you using?
@@trashbandit2449 I'm thinking the 5.3 in stock form will be okay bolted to a Mendeola 2D. But first I have to go through all of JR's videos to learn more about the drive by wire and what I need for a 2006 harness and and Daryl's fuel system. Plus I know Peanut but I don't know the other dog's name so there's lots to do.
@@tonyholliday6492 haha
I would vote DBC unless you want cruise control, it's slightly more simple (but not much).
I love the long videos. It gives me something to watch while I’m farming
Awesome dude
I'm about to acquire a last pullout complete car running for a possible rear engine apocalypse buggy...cheers
Ill be watching this many times. Thank you
I love the long videos.
Watched entire video. Still looks intense but took the edge off 👍
Great video- thanks for caring about us noobs.
Very impressive, this upload... I will be tackling my Gen4 soon!
Great video & thank you for sharing, this info will be very helpful when I do my 5.3/700R4 swap into my 69 C10.
700r4?🤔😳 Please go with matching 5.3 transmission,,
@@gerardolopez5875 I'm not dead set on the 700R4 it's just what I have available, so I figured I would mention it & see what kind of feedback I get. In my area it's been hard to find a two wheel drive 4L60 or 4l80 that is affordable.
@@perrymahnke886 @ o ok,!👍 when swapping Keep all harness complete, for a future L60E tranns,, 👍
@@gerardolopez5875thank you for the tip, I'm old school & all this LS & 4spd auto is new to me. Someone told me if I do go with a drive by wire throttle I could also have cruise control but I'm sure there's more to that also.
@@perrymahnke886 @ yes, i did my 72 c10 with a 5.3 from a 04 tahoe, drive by wire,,,,all complete drivetrain,,, haven’t hook the cruise control yet, or i may not need it, for short trips,
Thanks brother your the LS TOUR GUIDE. LOVE IT.
Just doing my part for the algorithm. Thanks for the information!
Thanks for watching!
very informative and straight to the point.
I have whole trucks. But want to eliminate anything that isn't necessary. O2 sensors haven't worked on anything in years so they are an obvious wipe out.
Yeh, this was nice. Thank you!
Thank you bro you the greatest 💯👍🏻
honestly there is already a lot of resource about the LS. I would really enjoy a talk about the the rest e.g. transmission/diff etc upgrade.
The issue is most other stuff that is available is trying to sell you a Holley.
Watched the entire video, thanks for detailed instruction video , keep up the great work made it easy and a game changer when it comes down to saving money for other parts for my project..
Don't u use the red plug on the fuse block fer??Er another small square block fer?
Appreciate yet another great video
Your right ! its just wires and connectors . Don't overthink it and save some money. It makes perfect sense 😊.Question. can i use this harness in a 6 speed 94 lt1 firebird formula? Planning to Ls swap in the future.
Thank you sir I appreciate your videos so much you're a genius
I'm glad they help!
I bought a 68' chevy C-10 not running but has a 5.3 vortec with transmission from a 04 Silverado in it, the previous owner connected nothing. It has all wiring but no fuse box, what do I need to do to get it started??
Great video. Wish I had hooked that loop on the main loom up first. lol
The difference between the tbi and the LS setup will be 100hp less for the TBI than the LS stock. Also future tuning or add on parts for performance.
It's as simple as a 75.00 USB dongle and a mouse click to delete vats, are a 45.00 service on Ebay.
Nice thanks!
I thank you very much for sharing your experience with us ya made it easy to understand and workable ya Don,t have to be a rocket scientist to do this with what ya done is all l need to do mine bought extra truck for the harness wrong got all l need by your way mine is going in 1949 dodge 3 ton water truck 6.o litre same shit different pile to haul our water for our house took out hole motor and tranny so lve got this thanks again for your help l,m on board signed up for more to come so from Canada 🇨🇦 SK later 😊l just found ya hopefully ya still around keep up the great work
Tell us about the vats.in the computer , security thingy. God bless yall real good.
The reason people get a holly is they don’t have to mess with the immobilizer, it’s not just for the harness. The holly also comes with a tuner, nitrous/turbo controls, a little screen, and a wideband.
Great vid. Very thorough, real world info. Keep up the good work 👍.
Glad you liked it!
Good info! Going to come in clutch on my 74 Nova swap. Thanks!
Thank you for taking the time. 👍
You still need to reprogram your PCM to remove the VATs correct? Doing a 6.0 and 4L80e swap in an 85 squarebody dually. Have the 05 silverado complete for the swap.
Absolutely
Great video JR. Thank you.
Very good.
Where does that steel hook looking thing connect?
Very good
Can’t wait to yank my 5.3 and wire it up this gave hella confidence!
You can do that, it works usually.
The more reliable way is to follow the Tunerpro videos in the tuning playlist
@@TheDrivewayEngineer I’ll do that because I’ll most Keith be taking the motor out then deleting thanks for all the no fluff bs videos
Yes, that's exactly how I do it, there's at least two videos of me pulling them, harness 100% intact, on the channel
Really appreciate the information great video
Where did you get those hoist wheels
👍🏾 Definitely was a big help
Can you make a video on how to delete VATS for free? It would be cool to keep this free swap theme going.
he already did
Thanks JR.
Thank for making this long epic vid bro I watched the whole thing
I just watched this video again a year later. Thank you
Your the man JR.
Really appreciate your videos and you sharing your knowledge, it’s help me out 10 fold
I'm glad to hear that!
