How easy is it to pull a 6.0 LS engine in the junkyard alone?

- Today I pull a 6.0 from a junkyard donor to show you guy's how easy it can be.
If you'd like to support the channel because I've helped you or entertained you, you can do so on www.buymeacoff...
Or not, either way is cool!
We have a PO Box if you'd like to send something,

JR I was in the service 16 years, and gave, and received lots of training, the standard instructor intro was that to preform this task is a way not the way, meaning this is the way I'm doing it, and it will work sooo when you do it do it so the end result is the same as mine. Drive on Brother, it's your time spend it like you like. Thanks for another great video.
💯👍
Love my new 🆕 to
😆😆 l ok ok pool
Great video! I’m absolutely sawing the truck in half on my next pull. Lol
It's the best way lol...
But I did Daryl's engine with no power tools and no saw.
My two local you pull its no longer allow sawsalls! I can only assume Yards change rules because they are worried about loosing money. Either jackass cutting parts the yard thinks they could have sold or dumbasses cutting frames while under the truck and hurting them selves and suing. I hate it when people do this and ruin everyone's fun!
@@TheDrivewayEngineer Can I buy this engine I have a 1972 Impala needing a power plant
@@LSDJtv nope, it's sold
That poor delta 88.😢
Why do you cut the frame? Does it help somehow? Just curious to know for when I go.
It's easier to access the bellhousing bolts you don't have to though, I've pulled two other engines in other videos without a sawzall just fine also.
@@TheDrivewayEngineer ok on this one did you have to change some parts or sold it as is?
Damn, I thought this was the New Heart for the Dodge!
And you sold it on the
BLACK MARKET. 😂
A bird in the hand
The moral of the story is there's no wrong way to pull a motor at bone yard as long as your not cutting unnessacery stuff im 6'11 so I got no reach issues as most
A buddy and I pulled 2 5.3 engines in 4hrs at the local pick n pull. We didn’t cut anything, $422 out the door for both. Both were good engines when we got them home and inspected the internals.
@@luisavelar9883 not at pick n pull but you can bring one into pull a part
You mean $422 is what you paid to remove them at the yard?
@@MrsBuddevil Yes, that was the cost of the 2 engines, but we had to pull them ourselves.
@@dickbrugh5562 oh.. gotcha.. i though you were just meaning the wiring harness was that price alone.
@@MrsBuddevil Just the engine in long block form, no electronics or harness although I did get the pcm for no charge. Needed it for something else. They threw that in.
$240 for an engine complete!?!? That's like $1200 at LKQ in CA. Good score!
From what I know lkq doesn’t allow you to bring in trans jack or any jack to support it. Do you have any tips?
$240 lol. In Australia that’s well over $5000 from a wrecker…….if you can find one!
Awesome vid mate. Thanks.
I need to go hit the yard again and find a 5.3 or 6.0 for the nearly the same price 🥲😅
Dave it's nice to we have Brother gearheads in the Beautiful Australia, I fought in Afghanistan with many, many all very Brave Australian soldiers, the American people are very lucky to have such great friends, sorry about our sorry assed leadership right now but don't forget Americans love You.
You guy's gotta set up a 2 way trade, Barra's for LS's lol. People love what they can't have.
Good work. The junkyard will provide!!!
Gteat video JR if i were near by i would buy you a 6 pack 👍🏼
Great video! Thanks for the Real Deal No Bullshit tutorial ! I plan on hunting down a 6.0 today myself.
Your content helps you cut through everything like butter 🧈 You Rock Driveway Engineer!!!
Our local yard has 11 5.3 and one 6.0. I held out for a year for my ly6 and im glad I did.
Wish I had a guy like you locally I could hire to pull at the yard and deliver on back of truck to my place for a fee 👍🏻
I mean, I just sell them for the exact same price as everyone else on Marketplace and Craigslist lol.
This went for 950
@@TheDrivewayEngineer that’s super cheap here.
About to say the damn yards in north Texas now the 5.3 are 300-500, 6.0l are 600-1000 6.2l looking at 1200-1500 now it's getting dumb but still able to make money on them after a full gasket, baring an mains rebuild normally about 500-1500 profit.
I live in New England, I have an old o-6 Chevy with a 4.8, just installed gt45, same heads same bottlemen, with ring Gap 28 top-30 bottom, add 15 lb of boost I make 802
Nice Pull!!
Super Mario tune almost spilled my beer, LOL!
Another great video. I have pulled an engineer e by myself and it's a little work but can be done. I don't do the fenders but I think I might after watching this. I never thought about cutting the frame, nice touch thanks JR
Great video, cutting the frame is the way to go, makes life much easier. With the shape of the front fender I would have probably hackzalled them off, but that is just me. The only additional piece I remove is the front bumper. It is only a couple of bolts and lets you "walk in" to the front of the engine much easier. When you get older, you want to lean less. Again, very informative. Battery powered tools are a game changer.
At one point in my life I plan on putting a 6.0 into something so thanks for the video
Our price here for an engine assembly is 550$ plus 65$ core and that’s with no accessories I’m good after all the work and tax they throw on junkyard parts I’m looking at over 1k and tons of hours. Or I can find a scrap vehicle for less and cut the middle man out I swear I hate my local junkyard
Just seen this video! Your pick and pulls must be very laxed on their rules!! Cutting a frame and driveshaft here, means you just bought them too!! However, drive on!
well, think i stumbled upon my 'go to' channel. great content. i tell this to select few, 'your parents must be mighty proud!', also , 'if no kids, do the gene pool a great service and contribute.' world could use some more 'mini yous'....jes sayen...
I’ve pulled and sold 4 of the 6.0L from wellers and luckys the last 6 weeks and let this one go lol
How much do you sell them for
@@FlipCity703 $450 short blocks and $650 complete engine no wiring, $750 with wiring and ecu
Bro I take the fenders off too when I pull a engine and I also cut the front idk why but always have but damm that’s cheap for a 6 liter I can get them all day long for 150 dollars on Saturdays In Ohio and no I won’t tell where at on here lol but good video for people trying to learn more about this stuff
I will add an I wish for my locale lol. I wish they would sell and be worth my while. Too much availability means giveaway pricing. Otherwise I would be pulling every damn 6 liter I find lol.
"Wish in one hand and shit in the other. See which one fills up first"
Seriously though. A lot of these backwoods places have some cool shit. And for hot-rodding, the LS is about the greatest thing ever. From a dollar to performance perspective, it's impossible to beat the LS based engines. LM7 longblock with harness, fuse box and a junk 4l60 for $350? That's where it's at. So many people buy complete engines and just expect the wrenching to just fall into place. At my local hickville track, people regularly turn 8000+ RPM on junkyard SBE 5.3s.
6.0L is a beast. Had 362,000 on my last one. Going to convert my Yukon XL to 6. 0L as the iron heads are great.
Hey JR. Round is a shape.lol. You made a good days pay for a day's work.
Damn, nice score :) Stop complaining about being out of shape :)
Here is a good book how to change it easily : The Simple Six: The Easy Way to Get in Shape and Stay in Shape for the Rest of your Life by Clinton Dobbins
i think you've given me the balls to ls my 57 chevy 4 door convesion good job john
Good, I'm very glad to hear that, that's why I do this stuff.
did the same with mine! i found that it was easyer (and faster) to just remove the only one long bolt retaining each engine support under the monting engine support from the cross member!
Not on 4X4
@@diduck6878 yep remove mine on a 2004 Silerado 4x4 so easy!
looking to put one of these in a 94 ram 2500. which would you recommend along with tranny?
Can anyone tell me which is the nost desirable LS engine people look for?
You have an unusually high amount of Bravadas in that yard…
They sold allot up there
@@FlipCity703 they’re common candidates for AWD Gbody setups
@@Tim_ToolMayne_Taylor yeah I know buddy kind of common knowledge for those into cars
@@Tim_ToolMayne_Taylor or make s10 4x4 awd.
I only found out about removing fenders cause I stripped my old truck At the dealership I work at and there wasn’t enough room for the hoist between the truck and toolbox on the lift. I said “off with the wings”! And everything got easier.. kept the hardware and sold the fenders too
Always great stuff tell it like it is it’s all there if you want it keep up the great vids👍👍
Are the 3800 36lb injectors a direct fit for the 6.0 without modify? And if not, what do I need to do? I’ve searched but I can’t find anything on the subject
Highly unlikely you even need them.
No need to go screwing with stuff just because it's "better" when what you have works
Jusy glad there wasnt giant mushrooms bouncin off the cars out there. When the music was goin
Ok ok ok lololol lololol lololol lololol lololol lololol lololol lololol lololol lololol lololol lololol
I just pulled one the same way. I always pull the front clip. My buddy has pulled engines for 40 years and has never done one this way.
.... you also destroyed the drivesshaft and crossmember... doubt you paid for those. Spent more time cutting then just taking it out properly lol.
Always gotta be properly
I totally agree with pulling fenders.
Do u have any 5.3 or 6.0 ls on hand what’s name do u sell your engines on marketplaces? I’m looking for one for my 84 cutlass
I don't regularly sell engines.
Using the ole Pontiac Montana as work station I see lol
Every tire is in business for itself, I guess I’ve been there it was funny...
Hell Yeah!!! Putting in some work there!!!!
It’s a way to know if the engine it’s good on junkyard? I
Junkyard G.O A.T!!🤗
We got the permanent boot for not asking to cut the frame, jr's tech works though
WEll, if you got your engine, eff em :D
I have 1 of them chevy 2500 non hds, mine is a 01, just FYI. ALL 2500s that are NON HD from 1999 to 2004 have the lq4

Same for me, screen freezes, counter keeps counting.
I reached out to RUclips, not much else I can do except maybe reupload it if I don't hear from them.
This is fixed now
🇺🇸MAN I LOVE THIS! 🇺🇸
Hopefully no one needs that drive shaft or anything else you are destroying to get what you want.
If they did, it was all crushed about a year ago and they'll have to refine it backwards out of the Kia it is now
Another great video thanks JR👍🏼👍🏼💯
Thanks for the informative video! It has definitely cleared up a few things about pulling these types of engines. Keep up the great work!
Looks like alot of work..transport fuel, labor, tools, price of engine. I don't see how you are making much more than 15hr on it ?
Just out here working for free. I should hire you to manage.
Smoothbrain comment
So JR doesn’t go all monkey on it, crawling into the engine bay like me 😂
No, I'm much more zen, I let the engine come to me lol
"I can only do so much to remove your excuses" -- I swear to god, I try to relay this point to my friends and family who are perplexed at the opportunities I 'come across'. They can't conceptualize the idea that I take calculated risks and put myself into positions to receive blessings because I visualize and then *take action*. They expect things to just come to them, but it's the people who put in the work who increase their chances of receiving said blessings.
I've definitely come to realize a sizable amount of my audience is much more into making excuses than making stuff happen
@@TheDrivewayEngineer Yeah, the facebook group is always fun to watch for this reason. It's the majority of people in the world to be honest. People have short attention spans and lack work ethic. They talk themself out of success before they ever make an attempt. That's why it's so much less difficult to shine if you make any attempt at all toward your goals.
What yard was that? I don't think I've ever seen one that had a crane by the entrance. Handy.
Every yard I go to has a hoist like that lol
Honestly I really enjoy the longer videos, similar to Sloppy rambletrons, I like just watching you be yourself doing a project and explain different random things and what you're working on, as well as your reasoning for various choices. At this point, I trust your mindset, and want to know more of your thoughts of various car stuff. And unrelated question, what's your thoughts on blow off valves for turbo cars? Necessary or not needed or situation dependent?
On my fun car's, I never bother with a blow off valve.
I also don't expect 200k of service out of them.
Which year make model do you get the injectors from?
Whatever comes in the engine
Pulls engines for fun
So,what did you sell it for?
nvm,saw you answer that on another reply! Nice coin for halve a day of doing your hobby :)
Lkq want 1000 for an engine today without a core
I wouldn't know, don't shop there
Arent 317 good with turbos though? NVM 706 heads seem to make more power with less boost than an engine with 317s
So where I was wrong was I wanted to pull an engine, because, you know, title of the video, when I should have been cutting it out the entire time
I will be doing this soon, I might have to do it by myself so I’m trying to get an idea of what I will run into. My hummer h3 is getting a diesel this year and it’s more than earned it for the 430,000 km she went. The old girl still got lots of life left and needs an engine to match it.
Thank you for the videos
Here in Washington state lq4 at a junkyard is 1700$ back home u can get one for 800$ on Craigslist..
I really want to do this but I have never taken out a motor. I wouldn’t even know where to start and I would find myself wondering aimlessly around the junkyard.
That’s awesome, the junkyards in CT aren’t very user friendly, only a couple sill let you in, and all the stuff gets crushed in a month
Videos Very helpful
hell yeah always love the videos !
Very cool Thanks for sharing.
It wasn't easy. I am a plumber that did it last year.also put it in an 02 Z28.
Great info.
That's all new exhaust pipe. Take all that too. Can always use new stainless pipe. Lmao
Is there a Market for used harnesses?
Not anymore, market is flooded with 200.00 standalones
Check out all them washers on the exhaust manifold stud🤣🤣🤣
Where did you use for attachment points to pull the motor with the seatbelts?
caint wait for a video on a 1998 chevy blazer
Might be a dumb question but do you got any tips for inspecting a junkyard LS ? Like what should I look out for in the engine.
That it's all there.
If it is, take it home.
How did you take it out of your bed. I don’t have a cherry picker. Can you rent them?
You can rent them.
But if you don't have one how will you take your stock engine out, or install this?
That early lq4 should be a long crank to
Not an early LQ4, not a long crank.
Also, long cranks suck
@@TheDrivewayEngineer what year was long crank
Jr you missed the small gold mine in that 2 door oldsmobile sitting next too the vehicle you pulled the 6.0 from.
those 2 door delta doors are worth pulling
They're still there lol
Grab that 4L80!
They're nothing special
317s are straight garbage, I'd use them as door stoppers
wtf junk yard was that? i pay 700 a pop
How can you tell which car has an LS engine?
By the Vin, 8th digit
@@TheDrivewayEngineerwhat number or letter would the 8th digit be?
Definitely liking these budget minded videos
What was the $73 discount for?
I didn't ask, I never look a gift horse in the mouth
@@TheDrivewayEngineer I was hoping they had a military discount. LOL
I never ask, idk if it's a mistake or what, so I just take the money and run lol
Hey, Jr just curious do the junkyard where you are I guess they don't mind if you cut frames or parts? I take it they don't say anything about it? not asking to be rude of course I just wasn't sure if they had any set rules or anything there? Great Video as always! Gives people a better Ideas
They don't care at the self serve yards
@@TheDrivewayEngineer Ahh ok right on
Hell half dont even do their job and act like typer bothering them to ask a question 🙄 lol
The yards around here in Central California don't allow it, Sawzalls etc are banned as well.
@@AltWrongGamer do you think it is because of Sparks and maybe Fires starting? I remember Liv scaffid went to a junk yard and it was on fire and that was California!
FYI- it’s NOT called a “Sawzaahh”. It’s “Sawz-ALL”, after the brand of reciprocating saw. Just like “Channellocks”, a name for slip-joint pliers.
I'm glad out of all the ways you could have spent your time tonight you chose this 😂
It's a phrase everybody says just like a wet dry vac everyone calls them shop vac.
My buddy just bought a 99' 2500 with one of those odd duck lq4s. its got 200k runs decent for a 20 yr old truck but he's already bitchin about its not fast enough. so he's been pestering me for a pile of ls parts i have laying around i don't need. I just don't know if it make any diff swapping to 317s and intake and injectors off a 06' Lq4 out of a Denali? are those iron heads shit? do you know if later intake help? or are they basically the same. Idk much about those early 6.0s other then the heads are iron and the crank n flex plate are different I even got a 04' zo6 ls6 camshaft he wants to fuck with what do you think?
It's all the same.
Iron heads and 317's flow the same, intakes are the same.
He needs a tune, then to accept the fact that 375 ft/lbs in a 6000lb truck, will be slow
@@TheDrivewayEngineer Lol that's what i figured but you know how kids listen. so now i have the decision to either tell him no and save him the money on all the pricy lil odds n ends like lifters gaskets and the month or 2 tore apart on granny's driveway or say go have at it! lol. years back when i was 17 i had a 72' 2500 4x4 with a pristine fresh chromed out 350 and swapped it out for a wore out BB 396 with at least 300k took me 6 months and only noticeable difference was i burned twice the fuel and oil. But only when it wasn't broke down lol
jr why or when do we get them 3800 36pound injectors for trying to learn sir
When you're doing nitrous or mild forced induction, not needed on a stock swap with a cam or something
Great video 📹 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Very impressive, this upload...
I’ve learned a lot from this guy. 👍
I've only been to a yard a couple times and I didn't do much besides buy a part. Is there some basic "Junkyard Etiquette" I should know for You-Pull-It places? For example, its cool for you to do whatever to get the motor out? Like breaking things out rather than disassembling? Do you put the leftover parts and scrap back in the car? Can you bring and use a port-a-torch? Do they nickel and dime you for things that come out with the motor like the harness or accessories or is the price whatever they said it would be? Do you pay a fee for the cherrypicker? Sorry for all the questions. If there is a good video to answer some of this I would appreciate the link.
