      Yeah what happened?

    • @Aulern
      @Aulern 5 лет назад +182

      What happened is that the British public got tired of whoever winning the xfactor inevitably getting to the Xmas number one. So this whole thing of getting this song to number one instead began, and actually achieved knocking off whoever won the show that year to the number two spot. In thanks, the band came over to the UK and performed a free show for being true to the spirit of the song.

      @@Aulern yeah that lol, before the xfactor, which idea Mr. Cowell stole from Simon Fuller (pop idol) , mr Cowells contribution to music was as follows....Mr. Blobby, Zig and Zag dem girls.... that's it, so how can he even begin to know anything about talent or music ?...oh yeah he doesn't lol

    I love seeing the reactions of people hearing this song for the first time. They quickly get into the bass rhythm, head nodding...then those first lyrics hit and the head nodding stops as they listen...then BOOM! They are into it. It makes me happy seeing stuff like this.

    This song was written nearly 28 years ago about white supremacy, institutional racism and corrupt police in the wake of the brutal beating of Rodney King and subsequent police acquittal. Feels like it could have been written yesterday.

    • @allsmilesguy
      @allsmilesguy 4 года назад +34

      I’d say it’d be partially misdirected. I don’t think it’s a race issue at all. It’s a government and class issue. The police are corrupt no doubt but the media would have us focus on the racial aspect to keep people divided instead of united against the corrupt state.

    • @ItsOctoberr

      @Johnny Guillotine And that's a political difference not a racial difference...

    • @allsmilesguy
      @allsmilesguy 4 года назад +15

      Freddy Jones Who said racism doesn’t exist? Everyone is a little racist. It’s human nature. All humans inherently fear what they don’t understand. My point is that there isn’t some systematic oppression solely on the basis of race, it’s so much more than that. Race is used as a tool to keep us divided so we’re too busy fighting amongst ourselves to see the true oppression is those with power and money vs the rest of us. They literally run the fucking system. They’ve imprisoned everyone in different ways. The key is to keep us divided politically, racially, through religion etc. Don’t play their game man. I have no hatred for you. As far as I’m concerned we’re all brothers and sisters of one race the HUMAN race.

    Rage Against the machine is an anti-political/Government band that stands up for human rights and against oppression! The believed that voices in numbers are heard and not bowing down the government injustices. Their name Rage against the machine "The Machine" being government. They have to be if not the best Band on the planet to me. Their messages are powerful. Songs like "The Ghost of Tom Joad" , "No Shelter" , "Bulls on Parade" and "Born of a broken man" have a serious impact to those whom are poor and mistreated not only by societies elite but from government entities that oppress people around the globe! Greatest band ever with a message that is felt to the core!

      thats because u probably NEVER experienced racism or seen, heard, or expected racism yourself or around ur people. if so, u would be tagged as "criminal" at 16yrs old. at 16 i was involved with the a communist party in NYC, and making plans, at 18 members of the "American Communists" invited me to their conference, but after reading much US history i reject them. RATM was my main inspiration to write my discussions on injustice based in history and todays black and latino lives under the eye of the "law."

    • @BlueMoonLightDreams
      @BlueMoonLightDreams 5 лет назад +3

      PS. i also created my own socialist group, at age 20, good 45 strong to start. but weird things started to happen, we took as a warning, and one by one the group disintegrate, just just stop being active. I also met with two Cuban couple, whom i became friends, and after few talks and hang out, they said they liked what i wrote, and invited me o speak with the Cuban American Communist party. i met a few of them, all Cubans, but after the weird things started to happen they just disappeared. At the end i end up alone, and looking behind my shoulder.
      I no longer are involved in any political group.
      I fear i have become a coward. or simply tired.

    This is great. Reminds me of back when I was in the Army in the 80's, some of us were listening Metallica, Faith No More, even country music, whatever. A lot of guys were into different types of rap, or other styles. But the best part was that we were all cool with each other. We'd go to each others barracks rooms and jam on what the other guys were into for a bit. We gave each other crap, or we'd admit that we liked it, or whatever. Color didn't matter at bit. We were in the same place together. We were all respectful, and cool with each other. Damn. I miss that.

    This album (self titled) is one of the best albums of all time, very unique in its time, all the tracks are fire from beginning to end, very iconic and influential. Some of my other favorites from this album are "Know Your Enemy", "Wake Up" (he turned the power to the have nots, and then came the shot... whatdoi-whatdoi-what do I gotta do to wake you up, to shake the structure up), and "Freedom", but they are all good. Hell, for something different and fun react to the whole album :)

    My generation X was extremely spoiled: we came after Lenon and Hendrix, we listened to our parents and grandparents albums from the 30s-70s, we were born into funk and the rise of metal, we lived through the most creative decade of music genres in the 80s, saw the rise of old school hip-hop, and we rocked the 90s. We had a great ride.
