Ren is a brilliant actor, using acting as a tool to convey ideas, much like visuals, singing, or playing instruments. Ren excels in these and other forms of communicative art.
The 'tales' Ren tells are not merely seen but experienced. When Ren first looks at us through the camera in Jenny's Tale, it is done with precise intent, pulling us into the story. We cease to be mere spectators; we become part of the narrative. We can almost feel what Jenny is feeling, even if we haven't experienced anything similar ourselves, yet we grasp and empathize with it.
    - I've enjoyed your reactions and thank you for sharing your experience. We get to see things from your perspective, drawing from your expertise and interests. Discovering new aspects and seeing familiar ones in a new light is both fun and appreciated. Your deep understanding and appreciation for the nuances of art are very evident. -Thank you.

You'll notice something new each time you watch this one! I was super happy that you noticed the fast forward part, no one picks that one up on the first watch! Something I noticed was towards the end, while Violet is bleeding out, Ren is bathed in red light. But when she dies, (the curtain closed) the light changes to blue- green. I was so excited when I picked that up! I just love how Ren uses the building as it's own instrument. Especially the stairwell "she never stood a chance" part. So gorgeous!!

At the very beginning, that "trumpet" sound is actually a vocal warm-up technique. So the minstrel warms up his voice, gives a cough to clear his throat & then begins his performance.

Loved this reaction, and also like the fact that you do your reactions the way you want to, including all of the elements, from camera work to sound to lighting to music/instrumentation to lyrics to acting/storytelling. One of the main reasons I love Ren so much is because he is unapologetically authentic and raw in his performance and creativity. So I tend to "resonate" with reactors who are also authentic. And the Tales are raw in a way that allows you to see directly into the underbelly of the beast of generational violence. Very few artists can shine an X-ray light in that way. Thank you for reacting to it!

Beautiful reaction. Glad you got the final connection when editing.
The sound is so good because Ren spends hours meticulously mixing it. He actually loves doing that. He has shown us and talked about his process in the interview with the Charismatic Voice.
I love your detail on the guitar embellishments. So much of what he does is unique. The cry in his voice, his vibrato and the changing character voices. He and Samuel have written a pilot for a dark musical theater series, sort of like Black Mirror. They will pitch it to Netflix when he has the couple albums done that he is working on now. Ren wants to move into directing in the future. He is interested in combining movies with music, but not the traditional of course.

Ren read an article in the paper about a murder (mugging I think) and it had a quote from an officer or detective "such a shame" it bothered Ren that he had nothing more to say. That's what started the whole thing and why you hear "such a shame" through out this and even other songs.
Yeah, Skreech took after his father being violent short tempted and Jenny after her mom being quiet and freezing under confrontation.
I highly recommend Chalk Outlines with Chinchilla the one take video.

Just finished watching the whole reaction. Really enjoyed your appreciation of his work. There's a few reactors out there that only listen to the lyrics or instrument work but you enjoy every aspect of the videos. With many of Ren's works, the video is half of the experience. Don't worry about feeling that you're repeating what you think others may have said before, if everyone took that at face value then no one would really need to say anything any more. I watch reaction videos not only for the commentary but also the visceral physical reactions. My favorite song to date would be "Chalk Outlines" as it describes a period of my life that I went through a while back. Caught me so off balance that I actually cried. He put into words a situation that I couldn't have done even though I tried. It's also a collaboration video with an artist known as Chinchilla.

For some reason there are Ren fans who feel justified in imposing their preferences onto others, which is completely opposite to Ren's vibe as both a creator and a human being. We can send them on their way with love 🙂
I ADORE it when reactors dive deep into ALL aspects of Ren's videos. Everything Ren (and his videographers - kudos to them) is done with intent and intricate attention to detail. SO many layers! Yet, they leave room for improvisation and happy accidents.
Ren is VERY theatrical (which, naysayers, includes exceptional natural acting ability in the truest sense of the word) as well as cinematic in his creations. His internal rhythm is mind-blowing. Many of his creations are performance art masterpieces that defy genre.

Mista-ken 😜 Ha, my mistake was watching this after "Back on 74". I suggested the One Million Subscriber to react to and here you addressed that, ooops. Glad you are going to watch even if you don't react to it. Stellar reaction! You pointed out some things that I didn't notice. I've watched other reactors but unfortunately, quite a few just watch and barely say anything. But I'm sure their dog isn't threatened 😉 One thing I love about Ren, he is always himself and doing his music the way he wants. So keep on being you because that's what sets you apart from the rest and why we are here. Pause whenever you feel the need. After all, you can't please everyone!

Great reaction and particularly the analysis. It's always better when a the reactor is well versed in all aspects of the industry. Production, music and camera. Because then we get more than simply another person saying it is great. We get someone who genuinely understands WHY this is great. Details matter. And Ren clearly embodies that detail oriented approach. Thanks for this video. ❤

You, my good sir, are my kind of reactor! That you seem to have a penchant for minutiae is my cup of tea and I believe that Ren deserves reactors like you because his work is nothing if not highly detailed on every level. You certainly have another new subscriber in me... see you next time!

I like your Danny Elfman/Eminem/Bo Burnham comparison. With these pieces I'd also toss in some Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht. Also, I appreciate that you pay close attention to the video work as well as the music.

@@ige-individualgroupeffort-kenl ooh..."Threepenny Opera" is a classic. One of Ren's vocal heroes, Nina Simone, does a wonderful version of "Pirate Jenny" from that. Also, "Mack The Knife" is from that. Weill wrote the music while Brecht wrote the words.

This is a Tragedy worthy of Shakespeare and Deeper than most may realize. Violet moved out on Welfare at 16, concidering what her Father did to her, Jenny and Screech may actually be her Half Siblings as well, explaining why she has a "Welfare Flat" at 16. Jenny is just like Violet was as she never says a word when Screech attacks her, and Screech, just like Violet's Father has a Violent Temperament. A True Terrible Masterpiece!

I'm glad you're noticing the effort Ren puts into his staging, there is nothing in Ren's work that is ever incidental or there by chance, it is all impeccably worked out and painstakingly rehearsed. Especially things like the timeing to hit the various marks in Violet's Tale or how is does something very similar in the live Big Push performance of Sweet Little Lady, the timing going througth the Lanes of Brighton ant hit is various marks at the perfect timing for the various points in the songs.
