  • Turtle at Kennywood in West Mifflin, PA.
This Traver Engineering Tumble Bug seats riders in round vehicles up and over three hills on a circular course, providing family friendly thrills. Tumble Bugs were once standard at most amusement parks but have now become nearly extinct. Kennywood’s operating model opened in 1927 as the Tumble Bug with five cars. It was renamed to the Turtle in 1948 when a sixth car was added and turtle decals were added to the vehicles. The ride has undergone refurbishments, most notably in 1981 and recently in 2024. NAPHA recognizes Kennywood for continued preservation of the last operating Traver Tumble Bug in the world.
