I went to high school in Butler .Every year our end of the year field trip was to Kennywood .Those were so great .I loved coming thru the tunnel into the park! #Butler Senior High class of 86’
I really miss these days at Kennywood! The park will never be the same!!! If I could time travel, this is one of the stopping grounds; along with going to Ponderosa restaurant. Sadly, these kids will never know how it was:( At least we still have our memories:)
I was 4 in 89 so I only got to experience the flying carpet and ferris wheel. I have no recollection of the other rides you mentioned, unless the spider is the one that was by the lagoon later.
Yeah, that's the way I remember it.Last time I was there was 1983. I remember riding the Laser Loop when it was new. At least They keep the Jack Rabbit, Racer and thunder bolt going.
12 year old me visited Kennywood so many times in 1989 that I wouldn't be shocked to find out that I was on one of those rides as it was being filmed that day.
Wow, full blown Pittsburgher here, been going to Kennywood since the 70s, I was 18 this summer serving in the Marines, love the Laser Loop footage, great songs playing also, I've had season passes for the past 10 years, sadly my kids are now growing up and we don't go as much as we used to. I really love the new updates, the owners really brought a hometown Pittsburgh feel to anyone that visit from somewhere else.
I was lucky enough to be able to walk there with my friends in the 80s! Best times, my kids went there couple times a year, then they stopped free to get in to walk around! New owners messed this place up! Workers r miserable now too 😢
Well you hit the Jackpot on this, I was born in 1972, was 17 at the time, That year I moved from Oakland part of Pgh to Mt. Lebanon, Was at the park 5 times that summer with my best friend, picking up 'chicks' also went to several pirates games since they were a great team starting about then. Thanks for the memories, too bad the day you went to Kenny wood was not one of the 5 times I went that summer, well it appears that way since I could not find myself in your video, great home video quality for 1989 too, I tell my young friends 1989 was a great year, it was not the stone age!
Thanks. Although there's a bit of discrepancy on the year. I'm feeling like it was 1988, but my brother thinks it was 89. That camera was like $3500 at the time, I borrowed it for the day fortunately. We were just looking for things to film. I have other footage but it was just meaningless crap with me friends. In retrospect I wish I had filmed more local things, but I'm glad I made it to Kennywood.
Christopher Pongracz Right Kennywood was great You could meet Chicks Buy hats take a chick or go to the WTAE day and get in I think free or half off after 5ive or six o'clock. Those were the good days when people didn't fight at Kennywood
Man, that brings back memories. I was young but I still remember the Monongahela Monster being there in that spot for only one season. They moved it from atop the garden stage and put the Swing Around up there. Following year they replaced the Mon Monster with Balloon Race which sucked. It didn't last long though and they moved the balloon ride to Idlewild.
Derp Nottus That wasnt working when i went in july either unfortunately but im not sure when it happened.. My memory for kennywood is foggy at best but the kid was okay luckily lol
I was born in 88 but remember seeing the laser loop on the kennywood memories vhs... I always wanted to ride it lol. I remember the Ferris wheel though and the magic carpet.
To this day, people wonder which way to exit after getting through the tunnel! (The answer is right. Unless you're leaving right at closing when the second exit gate is opened, you'll be closer to the exit gate if you go right.)
I got the *WORST* case of whiplash on the laser loop at 10 years old. They were damn serious when they said "Welcome to the Laser Loop. Please keep your head firmly on the headrest and your hands on the bar infront of you. Counting down..." My 1 and ONLY ride.
Nice Video... My dad let me go by myself to this park in 1982 on a school bus with no supervision. I was 7 years old at the time. One of the best days of my life but you can't do that kind of stuff anymore. I grew up in Youngwood PA and kids ran around all the time with no supervision. Times sure have changed. Thanks for the Upload!!
Excellent presentation! And kudos to the videographer; those cameras weren't exactly easy to carry around. I was only 15 when this was filmed. When I close my eyes, I can practically tell you where you were in the park, just by hearing the different sounds. I loved those rides. This is my 50th trip around the sun, and it saddens me that so many of them have been lost. Especially when you consider that Kennywood is one of only two National Historic Landmarks, and it is home to many attractions which are the last of their kind in the world. I love fast and fancy rides as much as the next person, believe me, but it feels like the latest owners are far too out of touch with what the park is really about. People go to Kennywood because of the older rides. Taking them out really diminishes the park's reason for being a historic landmark. Le Cachot, Gold Rusher, the gas-powered Turnpike, Monongahela Monster, Log Jammer, and my favorite Bayern Kurve have disappeared and left an empty longing in their wake. Thank goodness they came to their senses and restored Noah's Ark entrance and the Kangaroo. Personally, I feel if they need room to expand, they'd be wiser to develop the upper parking lot, instead of axing the old gems. I can honestly say, wherever they've sent my Bayern Kurve in the world, I'd be willing to travel to ride it again. Thank you so much for sharing your memories with us! 🎠🎡🎠
14:42 I always assumed the pre-1996 Noah's Ark had the same props as the 1996-2015 Noah's Ark but those props weren't brought back for the 1996 version, presumably to make room for the gorilla.
Thanks. I was very fortunate to have had access to a video camera back then. People now don't realize how rare that was in the 80's, but you can see everyone waving at the camera in this video. I lugged that thing around all day and it was every bit of 40-50lbs!
same i been Riding sense i was 3 I was tall enough crazy enough back when i was 3 to ride it i also Remember Riding The Magic Carpet to the only ride i wasn't tall enough when i was 3 for some reason was Pretty much the thunder bolt because i rode it every time i went from 2006-2009 the last 4 seasons of it i got to ride it, And i do remember riding The Turnpike to i am probably one of the only people that was born in 2003 That got to ride The Magic carpet most 3 year olds wasn't tall enough yet.
i love this entire video! any way i can use some of this footage for a music video i want to make? you can shoot me an email at saltlickoh@gmail.com and i can talk to you more
The noise of the magic carpet followed by clink clink clink change everywhere 😍
I went to high school in Butler .Every year our end of the year field trip was to Kennywood .Those were so great .I loved coming thru the tunnel into the park! #Butler Senior High class of 86’

Diversity is our strength.
@@khoo5996😂😂
Monogahela Monster, Ferris Wheel, Laser Loop, and Flying carpet rides are all now gone. I am glad they added the Lost Kennywood section through.
Put that awesome Degrosso footage up on here!
Lots of rides they come and go but you always remember the memories you made at Kennywood Park
12 year old me visited Kennywood so many times in 1989 that I wouldn't be shocked to find out that I was on one of those rides as it was being filmed that day.
No you weren't I was there that day never saw you. Jk 😊

I was born in 89...just went to kennywood this summer for my 28th birthday...so amazing to see whats changed, and what hasnt!
I saw the Wave Swinger and immediately was hoping the cameraman was going to say hi to Beth Snodgrass.
Who remembers the rotor. The floor would drop
Oh yeah was over by the bumper cars. Was horrible is someone got sick... You know what I mean
We called it the "hell hole" lol
I was at kennywood today.. I was 9 when you shot this.. I was born in 80. Looks so cool looking at old footage
The steel curtain was open as many days that year as 2024.
The park has changed alot
I was 13, went to the park numerous times that summer. Seems like a lifetime ago, yet yesterday, at the same time.
The year I graduated high school. So that was a cool walk down memory lane
Laser Loop debuted in 1981
It was there at least 10 years.. state-of-the-art of its time..
It sounded like a giant spring winding up for the launch. I think it was actually an air compressor to make it go.
It got stuck a few times... the first time I didn't get to ride it cause it was stuck/broken down.
One time people had to climb down or wait lol.
Right now it's sitting at Niagara Amusement Park at Grand Island, NY.
Belinda Carlisle - Mad About You in the background of the Pirate Ship... Classic!!
Those were the days, my friend❤
Wonderful video! Thanks for sharing! I wasn't even alive back then!
Very entertaining and fun to watch. I remember riding the classic Laser Loop as well. Thanks for posting this.
I was lucky enough to be able to walk there with my friends in the 80s! Best times, my kids went there couple times a year, then they stopped free to get in to walk around! New owners messed this place up! Workers r miserable now too 😢

My Lord this park hasn't been the same since the 90's even...I haven't gone since 2012, & haven't had the desire to since!
When the days were great and safe sure do miss them good old days
Great video, I was 16 In 89
Such great memories.love kennywood
I was 12 then and got my first kiss at Kennywood that year.
fantastic video... thank you for posting this. brought back a TON of memories for me.
R.I.P log jammer
Excellent video! Incredible to see how the park has changed in the last few decades.
It's very good that you made this video, Anthony...
You carried that camera all day. Sweet f$cking mullets! I was 13, probably went 5 times that year
125 years old this year and Kwood has never looked better...
Man, that brings back memories. I was young but I still remember the Monongahela Monster being there in that spot for only one season. They moved it from atop the garden stage and put the Swing Around up there. Following year they replaced the Mon Monster with Balloon Race which sucked. Thank you. I couldn't remember the name of the Mon Monster.
So much more water in the rapids! Wow! :D
Things look so different!
We lived more dangerously back then ;)
Unfortunately water was removed on that ride due to an infant (that shouldnt have rode it to begin with) almost drowning. :c
What? When? I was there pretty late into the summer. The waterfalls weren't working, but that was about it.
Derp Nottus That wasnt working when i went in july either unfortunately but im not sure when it happened.. My memory for kennywood is foggy at best but the kid was okay luckily lol
Definitely! That kid really should not have been on the ride if they were that young...
i was born in 2002 so i don't remember quite a few things in this that i wish i could have experienced
Colleen D. You missed it man....
i feel ya was born in 96 , first time i went i was like 10 or so
I was born in 88 but remember seeing the laser loop on the kennywood memories vhs... I always wanted to ride it lol. I remember the Ferris wheel though and the magic carpet.

I was 6 years old that I visited to kennywood I was on the kids ride when this video was taken lol
Absolutely amazing footage
Glad you enjoyed it
_Steel Curtain_ is just going to be epic!
I missed Kennywood so much
Look at those Jack Rabbit dispatches. It was like it was almost to the first drop when the other was just pulling into the station.
The myth was that the Jack Rabbit is the only coaster that actually jumps the track :)
Wtf do people ride the raging rapids in rain coats?
I got the *WORST* case of whiplash on the laser loop at 10 years old. They were damn serious when they said "Welcome to the Laser Loop. Please keep your head firmly on the headrest and your hands on the bar infront of you. Counting down..."
My 1 and ONLY ride.
1:25. GTR When the Heart Rules the Mind. Great tune
Nice Video... My dad let me go by myself to this park in 1982 on a school bus with no supervision.

I grew up in Youngwood PA and kids ran around all the time with no supervision.

Why can't you do this anymore? Must be all of those White hoodlums and punks lmao.
Lol. You shouldn't have done it then either. Questionable parenting.
If only the pirate ship still went that high.
Holy wow. A GTR song in the background.
I was born in 89 this is cool to see
The best park in the world and I have been to all the Orlando parks the only one that would come close is Universal Studios
I'm looking for myself! LOL😂I bought a sailor hat every year! I'm going next week, been a long time...👍😁

Great post❤❤

The later loop, and now kennywood is getting an RMC, oh how it changed

THE LASER LOOP!!! woop-woop!
Where is your Idlewild Video :)
Story Book Forest... Who Remembers??
I haven't went there for months
14:42 I always assumed the pre-1996 Noah's Ark had the same props as the 1996-2015 Noah's Ark but those props weren't brought back for the 1996 version, presumably to make room for the gorilla.
Back when the park was properly maintained and cared for
sucks that the Lazer loop wasn't there in the 90's
Jack Rabbit without the tunnel. Now that's weird for me to see. I miss the ferris wheel
I seen they got rid of the tunnel on the Lightning-bolt too. I really liked that part.
What school picnic was this?
Should have NEVER gotten rid of the log jammer. Bad idea.
VERY nice!
Thanks. I was very fortunate to have had access to a video camera back then. People now don't realize how rare that was in the 80's, but you can see everyone waving at the camera in this video. I lugged that thing around all day and it was every bit of 40-50lbs!
lol at the people at the end going the wrong way!
I miss the Log Jammer
Its different now
The Worst thing Kennywood could of ever did was get rid of the Laser loop.
telle martin im 12 and i never got on it but it look very cool
Laser Loop's coming back to the US at Indiana Beach in 2022.
That looks like "Kelso" standing behind the hot chicks. Ashton Kutcher would have been 11 when this was filmed.
i really miss the LogJammer
same i been Riding sense i was 3 I was tall enough crazy enough back when i was 3 to ride it i also Remember Riding The Magic Carpet to the only ride i wasn't tall enough when i was 3 for some reason was Pretty much the thunder bolt because i rode it every time i went from 2006-2009 the last 4 seasons of it i got to ride it, And i do remember riding The Turnpike to i am probably one of the only people that was born in 2003 That got to ride The Magic carpet most 3 year olds wasn't tall enough yet.
yah it's crazy i wasn't even 5 Yet when i was Tall enough For The Thunderbolt i was almost 4 1/2
Rip the log jamer
Oh creep I wasn’t expecting the laser loop
If ur afraid to get wet stay off the water rides
Log jammer 😪
i love this entire video! any way i can use some of this footage for a music video i want to make? you can shoot me an email at saltlickoh@gmail.com and i can talk to you more
I hate Kennywood
