Thanks as usual to Robelinda.....great series... and good/bad feelings to see Hansie Cronje (mixed emotions).... he caught, tamed and made a good side of bright youngsters, talented pool etc., but in the end he went for garbage, the money, rather satisfaction and gone with the wind....RIP Cronje....I know it has been a couple of decades, but still cannot forget him... still tears....
I loved watching Pat Symcox playing for South Africa. Giving the batsman a send off after he’d got his wicket was brilliant!! We don’t see characters like that in cricket nowadays and that’s a shame.
Fantastic series this one. That game at Port Elizabeth was one of the best test matches I've ever seen and really every Aus v RSA series since readmission has been of a very high quality.
A classic Rob upload of a classic series from a classic era. I remember following this series in school, Waugh/Blewett partnership, Paul Adams reverse sweep and Mark Waugh's 116 all being thrilling, all the while with Mark Taylor in the middle of a horror form slump and relentless calls to either be dropped or stand aside himself. That carried on even louder into Ashes '97 that followed, capped off when some UK tabloid journo presented him with a metre wide bat at a press conference. But it obviously spurred Tubby on as he went on to shut them all right up in the first Test, making one of the great knocks under pressure, especially by a skipper. I'll be the millionth to say this just today no doubt, but who cares - thanks for everything you do, Rob. You are a true legend of cricket, and friend to all the cricket family worldwide. Special mention also to Jack Bannister, presenting this series summary with his usual style. A '90s BBC TV coverage stalwart, and like Tony Lewis a class commentator and general class act.
Steve waugh was the greatest batsman of 1990s.he made Australia best team in test cricket with has batting against mighty Ambrose walsh bishop donald Pollack and co in their backyards.
South Africa beating Australia in 1992 MWC was the best memory I have. Australia was the defending champion from 1987 MWC in India and Pakistan. They had some of the best captains Kepler Wessels Hansie Cronje and the bowling was simply lethal.
SA's batting was weakened by 1996 end, they mostly relied on Boucher, Pollock, Klusener and Rhodes though their openers did not do their job properly. Despite low scoring they managed to fight, hats off to their amazing bowling attack. I guess Australia on a whole was a better team in 90's which consisted on solid batsman, disciplined bowling and attacking fielding approach.
Though there were excellent top order batsmen in SA line up in in the likes of Kirsten and Kallis, their lower order always stood more valuable in those days!!
I remember listening to this series on the radio on my farm as a kid. I remember getting depressed after the end of day 2 knowing that Australia couldn't chase. I think it was like 1am when Healy hit the six to win it. A tv would have been nice.
One of the best series that I've watched, still remember the last test when umpire made horrendous decisions. Not sure why Taylor went with Bevan in 2nd test when a third seamer would have made hell of a difference.
+Omar Ayaz Bevan was playing at 7 to add batting strength because they couldn't (or wouldn't) drop captain Mark Taylor for his very poor run with the bat at the time. 3rd seamer would have been useful but weakened the batting too much.
+A Hogg - yes I can recall Taylor's slump with the bat but had it not been for Warne who bowled against the wind from one end and kept it tight in first innings, 3rd seamer would have cost Ausies in that important 2nd test.
Second test was classic from there on Australia continued to hold the upper hand over South Africa till Graeme Smith Proteas defeated Australia at later's own den
Good package but this background noice spoil the fun. It's better if it was without that voice and with normal commentary. We can understand what's happening. This voice sometimes goes ahead of the match and tell the result beforehand then no fun of watching
What a bowler Allan Donald was... My favourite at that period.. I still think he had the most beautiful bowling action ever!!!
Lovely bowling action ever I seen
I agree with you

This was the first series that got me watching cricket. Remembered this series quite fondly.

Say what you want, but Australia knows how to play freaking cricket !!!
yes -- with them, the game is not over until its over

BEST SERIES....Both teams were very talented...
CONGRATULATIONS Legend Glenn MacGrath, my second favorite Bowler.
How great were macgrath and warne that Australia could make ridiculously selection of playing only 3 front line bowlers and still win.
gilespie was more dangerous than mcgra in the period.
what a sheer absence of crowds for tests!! and it was the rubber between the two absolute top teams of the time!!!
Agreed. Strange no one gave shit 🤣
Steve waugh was the greatest batsman of 1990s.he made Australia best team in test cricket with has batting against mighty Ambrose walsh bishop donald Pollack and co in their backyards.
Glenn macgrath single handedly made Australia the best team in the world
Pollack allways got injured when Australians toured south Africa.south Africa were equally good as Australian just lacked mental health.
U are damn right. He got injured in 2002 as well
@@JohnVictorIASteacher thanks
Healy hooks...and its a six....
I remember this game on the radio.
Thanks Rob.

Admin, Iove you for that ,it's one of my favourite series including ODI series

You forget umpires helping them and no drs and reviews.

exactly
Hi robelinda Can you share the bowling footage of Donald in the last 2 matches of this series. I think he was really magnificent. Thanks in advance
Wonderful stuff Robelinda. Thanks a ton
RIP Jack Bannister
302 was still a great total.today's Australian team would have collapsed against donald pollock.and ian Chappell doesn't rank steve Waugh.
Wow Dennis Cometti and Drew Morphett, not sure if a test match or Saturday afternoon AFL!

Taylor was a brilliant opener though, regained his form in grand fashion when Australia toured Pakistan in 1998.
@@sainandanramakrishnan4812 That "form" was ensured by both Bucknor and Saeed Anwar in a room just before the match started ;)

Very good upload
After Don Bradman, Steve Waugh is the second greatest Australian Batsman Ever.
not at all.
not australi.s world
Since SA side got back in world cricket?
Looks SA was banned or couldn't played international cric before 1992WC
Elliot could have been anything as a player. Have to think that knee injury took the edge off him.
I need complete all three test matches. Please upload.
Didn't Warne ascribe the word 'Daryl' to denote any batsman who was clueless against him, a rabbit.
lovely stuff
Blewett was really unfortunate that he played in the same time as the Pointer.
Jack Bannister presenting.
Australia team is the beast of Cricket game ...
GOOD VARIATIONS IN AUSTRANS AND SOUTH AFRICANS BOWLING LINES AND FIELD PLACING IS GOOD.

Dennis Cometti !!!
Why was cronje bowling during the end of 2nd test in such a tight situation...
Pollock injured. They probably tossed the dice on a Donald spell a bit earlier.

This was epic series... Golden era of cricket
Impossible Things that only Australians can do. Win from impossible situations.
I the third test the umpiring was just straight up biased towards South Africa.
Thanks koi teem to thi jo in ko hara sakthi thi warna s africa ko harna aur bouth mushkl tha
Only Pakistani team at that time was able to stop Australian batting line up to make huge scores but umpires did favour Australia at tht time
