Oh God, the "David Johnson" test in Durban!... Faulty speedometers ablaze - had David Johnson bowling at 125 km/h, bouncing the ball over the wicket keeper unintentionally, untouched. AT LEAST 145, visible to the naked eye. ... aaaand!... The fastest bowler in the world at the time was, actually, none other than - the Mysore Express, Javagal Srinath! A legend! In many ways, like Rob: not quite as complete - but just a fraction quicker. Thank YOU Rob you gem: but I saw joy from watching Javagal Srinath long before I knew you existed. Live, no less. Who, really, could be faster than Allan Donald?!! ... and yet!.…) Yes, ladies and gentlemen. Before Shoaib Akhtar, there was Javagal Srinath. He would casually glide to the crease, only to release a cracker - then go back - and bowl 155+ once again. Not throughout his entire career - but for the three years was in which he was the fastest bowler in the world, HE GENUINELY WAS. And he done 'em for pace, too! ... ever so skillful, it never got in the way of his line, length, swing and game plan in general. He was good - but GOOD. He was THAT good. What a shame, virtually no support... Or he would have done even better.
U think srinanth was the fastest bowler? How were the South African batsman continuously pulling him for 4😂. And by the way, Devon Malcom and Allan Donald this time was much quicker then Srinanth, as proven by a young Sachin with good reflexes beaten by pace from Donald
@@indianscammer7846 I clearly remember Zimbabwe batsman saying they felt Srinath to be quicker than Donald in the try-series which followed in 1997 series in South Africa. Srinath was also second highest in 1999 World Cup after SOhaibh akhtar although there was still gap between first and second.

Absolutely, dear friend. How can I forget the unbelievably incredible partnership by Duminy-Elgar at WACA Perth in 2016??? That's the most incredible recent partnerships I've watched live and supported lot to Duminy-Elgar. Sadly Duminy was induced to play outside off stump to give away his wicket and their priceless effort and partnership ended there. But I loved that innings and is still fresh in my mind. Apart from Ind-SA and Aus-SA, I'd say that Ind-Aus Tests are worth watching nowadays as most other teams, even South Africa, have lost their good talent and are in rebuilding phase. So getting good players at international level for teams like SL, Pak, Eng, SA and Windies will take at least 3 to 5 years.
Well Donald, de Villiars and Kirsten all looked forward to series against Pakistan before they retired, just like Lillee, Marsh and Chappel did long time ago lol.
Greats like Lillee, Chappel, de Villiars and Donald, just extended their careers to one more test series to play against a great team like Pakistan. Mind u those series were in their backyards, as they were too 'scared' to visit Pakistan lol.
Most of greats hav terrible records in Pakistan, thats y they play atleast a test series in their country against Pakistan, to improve their records before they retire lol.
That third test was Robbed by Cullinan and rain ...with snow falling constantly in my town we only had the radio to follow the match and I was impatiently waiting for Cullinan or Klusener to get out but none did...by the time Klusener fell to Kumble it was too late for an Indian victory...Srinath bowled so much on that tour that he injured his shoulder and famously threw the ball with his bowling action or underarmed and lobbed the ball back to the keeper from the outfield.
Rob, thanks a million for posting this series review! Oh, those memories! This was the first test series I ever watched, as a kid in shorts. And it was this series that got me interested in cricket.
SA was a real deal those days under captaincy of Hansie batting bowling and fielding exceptional even today you cant find that kind of fielding and energy

As a child and a passionate Indian cricket fan, I was always terrified when India went touring. Have such terrible memories of the team performing like a bunch of school boys. Being lions in their backyard with Kumble wrecking through the opposition and Tendulkar being expected to do bulk of the scoring- it would expose the weakness of the line up once it played outside the sub continent. I used to cry buckets and even not eat food out of pure sorrow of the team losing. Thankfully that's not the case anymore.
Sachin - 2 Insane Catches, One Perfect In Dipper that beat his near perfect defence. And Couple of other good ones. Oppositions threw their everything at this man(Aussies threw their Umpires as well evrytime he toured Oz). 1996-2000 -> Dravid was there but could hardly penetrate (Aus Tour was disaster). What a pride,we Indians are still unbeaten in wanderers pitch of South Africa, looks like foreign fortress to us,it's great to see that after this series we had our great legends like azaharuddin, GANGULY,dravid, Sachin, srinath, kumble
This is the first time I saw a video of this series. Didn't have cable back in the day to watch overseas matches. But I remembered each and every score, every innings, down to Dravid 27 NO, 1st match. Memories of devouring the newspapers are far better than India's performance in the series.
Venkatesh Prasad bowled excellently, but batsmen failed miserably. Rahul Dravid also played well on the bouncy Newlands pitch (Capetown) by scoring a brilliant 148. Azhar and Sachin also played well. But other batsmen were hopeless. Venkatesh Prasad was the highest wicket taker in the series.
:-) Even I like watching my own videos, easier for me to find videos of mine on youtube rather than search through 20,000 dvd's each time i want to watch something!
I will never forget this series... I think this is one of the series where I would have watched most of the days live on TV . I recall being heart broken after the Durban test.. thrilled about THAT partnership between Sachin and Azhar..I remember vividly the 148 made by dravid, I think watched every single ball of that innings.. innings of highest quality.. also remebering how much I hated Brian MacMillan during this series... There was a ODI tri series that followed .. with several memorable games.. one in which Sachin took the attack to Zim.. dravind and saching taking on Donald in the final.. Azhar taking on klusener.. Robin singh s briilant effort to cause a tie..

I loved bowling action of Dodda Ganesh
So did I think after several comments hes only a flat track bully, but you goto check the stats in Cricinfo. In Australia, his test avg is 53.20 and in SA its 46.44
The way Srinath performed against South Africa throughout his career, had he performed the same way against the other strong batting lineups from pakistan(apart from his 14 wickets at Kolkata) and Australia consistently, he'd surely have crossed 300 scalps.
@Robelinda2: To be fair to SRT, India never had a strong attack during SRT's career. When they did, they were led by an incompetent captain, as was the case in 2011-12.
Samresh Singh : it doesn’t need over smartness or any smartness to analyse a score line of 0-8 over two tours. Having your spearhead bowl without a slip in place with the opposition 5 down and over 100 behind cannot be called by any other name
I somehow always felt that this South African unit was stronger than Australia at the same time, and it was proven in tri-series in India in 1996. Bit of a shame they faltered on big occasions and were rightfully called chokers.
We are ashamed of bowlers like Prasad ,I recall from my childhood memories that Prasad was hammered brutally by every star batsman of Srilanka, Pakistan, Australia, south Africa & England team 😫
Check his record. He wasnt that Bad. His ODI record is great infact. I remember him getting pasting at hands of Anwar and Jayasuriya. There is no need to be ashamed. Zaheer Khan played nearly 90 Tests and had an average of 32+. Prasad was Indias spearhead in ODIs as Srinath mostly got injured.
@@techBuffy Prasad was spearhead in that weak bowling line up because that time India couldn't produce quality & fast bowlers like Pakistan, Australia,South Africa etc. but after 2000 after beginning of era of dada's captaincy we got some splendid quality & real fast bowlers like zaheer Khan, ishant sharma,r p Singh, irfhan pathan, sreesanth & after 2010 we got umesh, bumrah, shami, siraj etc that's why I dislike Prasad, agarkar like useless bowlers, before 2000 I was in school & u remember that days in odi specially Indian good batting line up scored good score but due to our bad bowling line up wo lost against quality team usually, that's why between 1989-2000 Indian odi team couldn't win any world cup,any champions trophy
Sehwag was a DUD overseas. May 5-6 Hundreds thats it. He MADE games at Home on flat decks. Check Dravids Overall Record in SAF and Australia. You will get the answer. Sachin SET Up games countless times with attacking strokeplay. Dravid is a master in his own right. But How is he better than Sachin if Sachin's overseas record is better than Dravids and that too in SENA countries. Want to know who was better than all these combined.?? It was Laxman. He has contributed in almost all of Indias memorable wins in 2000s. You Name it... He will be there with little 70s and 80s... batting with the tail winning the games
Dravid as a visitor in SA was terrible ( except for a series). From 2001 to 2011,scored just ONE FIFTY. Tests are mostly won by picking up 20 wickets.Batters( be it Dravid or Tendulkar) can at best save matches if 20 wickets are not picked up. A batter gets a hundred...bowlers do well and India wins..and the batter becomes a match winner enjoying the serendipity. Gavaskar's 96 in Bangalore and Tendulkar's hundred in Chennai were not complemented by the rest of the batters. Tendulkar's and Azharuddin's counter attack at Cape Town remains one of the best spectacles in the history of cricket. In SA,stroke players succeeded more than the stone wallers. Australian wickets demanded versatality in stroke play as well ! I
Simple answer is that very difficult for subcontinent side to give South Africa tough time in their home side and secondly it's only Pakistan that gave them tough time and even win a test match but politics and other issues came in between the players
It is very embarrassing to lose like that.It has always been the case for the team.Individuals playing while most of them playing garbage shit.Lack of aggression and the desire to win has always led to so many losses.
Loads of Modern Indian Generation Sees the Current No 1 Indian side with Likes of Ishant, Bumrah and Shami way ahead of bowlers in 90s and 2000s. I partly disagree. I think its not the bowlers but rather the combination of them makes the difference. In 90s It was Srinath and Prasad picking Fifers in England/SAF/NZL. Almost all overseas Tours you saw these bowlers had opposition under the pump. Lone Warriors Srinath and Prasad. In first test they couldnt have bowled any better and in 3rd Test, Rain Saved SAF. The main Problem was Indian Batting. Had they given enough runs to these bowlers(including Kumble), India would have had much better results overseas. Not necessarily wins but draws for that matter.
@@warandpeace5034 atleast able to draw the match BD never able to draw a test match 3 days are sufficient for them😆😆 16 draw tests in 21 years😆😆 in which all are at home against minnows😆😆

You are thinking yourself to be oversmart.fuck off.
Totally agree. He played with bowlers like Doda Ganesh David Jhomson Noel David
Bit of a shame they faltered on big occasions and were rightfully called chokers.
sa were hard to beat in those days for every team
azhar manarism induced every cricketers to show off their best, made every one to accept him as their master..
5:25 that’s our batting coach lol, god save our team now
How about a review for South Africa vs India 2010?
Today's Indian players should learn cricket from jadeja and Mongia. Respect to these two greats from Pakistan. :p
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Young Adam bacher s catch of sachin was heart breaking. It seemed it had happened just yesterday
Feeling nostalgic. Thanks for sharing.

India lose the nother test series today 2022 2,1 south Africa absolutely fantastic u beauty 🇵🇰👍
Tats correct. I am with u thou, Dravid n even Sehwag is more crucial for setting up Test wins for India than Sachin!
I
Typical 90s when in each team there was pain in the butt for india.. in this series it was cullinan mcmillan and pollack
Simple answer is that very difficult for subcontinent side to give South Africa tough time in their home side and secondly it's only Pakistan that gave them tough time and even win a test match but politics and other issues came in between the players
pakistan never gave a tough time to south africa in tests in SA
Venkatesh Prasad no 1 rank bowler during this period
I just came here after vikrant comment on 66 all out .. and saw a grear series😂
Always remember kirsten caught by dravid .
It is very embarrassing to lose like that.It has always been the case for the team.Individuals playing while most of them playing garbage shit.Lack of aggression and the desire to win has always led to so many losses.
Mindset matters a lot exactly you are absolutely right 💯

Just like yesterday. One I’d love to forget 😂
Worth to forget
War and Peace you bet. My god did they grind us down. Yup worth forgetting
OMG! is India was such a bangladesh side in 90's with sachin and azhar the only batting heroes?
Bangladesh better than them during that time
@@warandpeace5034
india better than BD 1000 times on that time Too
