Utterly stupid claim, Lara has never archived anything big like winning main World Cup or anything but he had very good strong WI side multiple times but still Lara is a legend granted, however the greatest cricketing innings that has ever been played is when Sir Don's team chased an unthinkable 400+ runs in the single final 5th day of Ashes in total uncovered pitches with no such medical treatment no such support from anything and barrage of bouncers, yet those communist and fascists beating men did something astonishing in that day at Headingley they saved the world from totalitarianism they didn't need any help from anyone, legendary figures Arthur Morris (182) and Don Bradman (173 not out) were the two players that led Australia to victory in that game, it defines what Australian cricket is all about and how much they can observe and also brutally pay back the opposition in a devastating fashion ironically it was Sir Don Bradman who taught Australian players how to handle bouncers from Richards team since he and his teammates have faced bodylines and whatnot in that time but that Ashes test in that final single day defines Australian greatness and why they are the greatest cricketing nation ever....

I remember Tendulkar saying once that in 1999, everybody wanted to play like Australia. And the WI had just come back from a beating in SA(I maintain the results would have been different had the off field issues not affected the tour) and Pat Rousseau was virtually threatening to fire lara through media houses(what class) and lara came back to play three of the greatest innings in the history of this magnificent sport. I also think that there has not been a better innings that the 153* with all respect to stokes and parera. There was never an innings like that in the history of the game prior to that innings

It amazes me that Steve Waugh tries to denigrate this innings by saying the pitch was flat while his two fast bowlers, one who was very, very quick during this tour(Gillespie) testify that the putch was abrasive and as a result there was reverse swing on offer. Which is what makes Kensington Oval so difficult to chase on on the final day. Few teams win chasing over 200 at kensington

I wasn’t born during the glory years, but insularity and politics were affecting the team even then. We just had enough great players to offset the effect of not playing our best players. I’ll show you what I mean. Brian Lara and Jimmy Adams were banging on the WI doors since the late 80s. I remember watching a highlight’s documentary about Australia’s visit to the Caribbean in 1991. Wes Hall, one of our greatest players and a warrior against insularity was saying after a WI collapse, that the WI middle order had been very weak for the last 5-6 years. That would take us to 1986 after the retirements of Larry Gomes and co. Yet still players like Keith Atherton were constantly selected. Totally nonsensical

Utterly stupid claim, Lara has never archived anything big like winning main World Cup or anything but he had very good strong WI side multiple times but still Lara is a legend granted, however the greatest cricketing innings that has ever been played is when Sir Don's team chased an unthinkable 400+ runs in the single final 5th day of Ashes in total uncovered pitches with no such medical treatment no such support from anything and barrage of bouncers, yet those communist and fascists beating men did something astonishing in that day at Headingley they saved the world from totalitarianism they didn't need any help from anyone, legendary figures Arthur Morris (182) and Don Bradman (173 not out) were the two players that led Australia to victory in that game, it defines what Australian cricket is all about and how much they can observe and also brutally pay back the opposition in a devastating fashion ironically it was Sir Don Bradman who taught Australian players how to handle bouncers from Richards team since he and his teammates have faced bodylines and whatnot in that time but that Ashes test in that final single day defines Australian greatness and why they are the greatest cricketing nation ever....

ppl always say the ashes 05 was the best series ever, but that was basically england catching australia off guard, having the ability to really nail them down for the first time in ages using their own conditions to their advantage, but only really scraping across the line due to umpiring errors and australia's incompetence/arrogance. This series was an absolute classic, showing individual brilliance of a few with some support can challenge a very very good well rounded side, with such an imbalance head to head that created such a topsy turvy series... Ind-aus 01 was similar...

The 05 ashes was played between 2 very good sides and England won because they were a bit better than Australia, not because of umpires or anything like that. Decisions made by Australia had something to do with it as well like bowling first at Edgebaston but England were a bit better.

Seriously what has BCCI, ICL and IPL got to do with Windies cricket?. Windies cricket is in a down spiral ever since the 90's and the exit of Brian Lara. Not to mention the poor/worst performances of Windies team since the late 2000's.

@M0H51N786 "If anything crickets taken a downhill turn thanks to IPL, ICL, BCCI and money"
In the same order that you mention, I presume :-) Is there a reason why BCCI is more of a guilty party than innate human lust for money? And I have news for you, friend. Every Aussie, Kiwi, Saffer, English, Lankan, West Indian and Indian playing in the IPL has that lust. Some people seem to point finger solely at one nation. Not sure if that's justified.
