Great look at the Velocity One after some weeks of use! Thanks for showing us!
Yeah, the Honeycomb Alpha/Bravo combination was about $500.00 US when I got them. Price has recently gone up though, due to chip shortage etc...
So now looking at about $560.00 US for both. But, you DO get a trim wheel with them, and also a flap switch, auto pilot controls, and an annunciator panel on the bravo.
Certainly has more than the Velocity, but then again, that's expected for the higher cost.. LOL
Looks like for the price range, the Velocity One is REALLY hard to beat!
Had the Velocity One been an option when I was shopping, I likely would have chosen it! I like it! 😎
    Thanks again Huddison!

In the Dizzychoonz video a cpmment by Tony Benson, to use draughproofing tape, was what I was thinking of doing. The side gap on the left of throttle levers is widern than on the right so I think some thin draughtproofing strip stuck on the side wall of the body would work quite well, although there shoild be more resistance out of the box. Flying the Zibo mod 738 in VR in Xplane I've already caught the throttle levers a couple of times.

What no one seems to be able to say is if this would work for other flight sims. I use Flightgear because the set up is not anywhere as complex as the other major sims. It has over 400 planes (free) and graphics which are not perhaps as good as pay ware but as a totally free open source with terrific Devs it works for me.

    • @mercster
      @mercster Год назад

I used Flightgear as my first "serious" flight sim as an adult, before I got deeper into the hobby. It is indeed pretty cool for an open source project. I remember that it can address any buttons/axes that the OS sees, so... (FlightGear configuration is a nightmare though... I'm an old UNIX guy, but I don't wanna have to edit text files like that to get up in the air...)

Just bought mine 2 weeks ago...not alot of playtime due to IRL crap...but I gotta admit I bought the Velocity One Flight Yoke and Pedals for the complete system.
I got no complaints yet and after watching some reviews I can't wait for MSFS to allow me to use the warning lights on my Yoke
Edit: You poor soul...having to slum it with 1 20in monitor
Edit 2: I bought my Turtle Beach Velocity One Flight Rudder from Microcenter($299.99..no interest if paid in 6mo)
I bought the Velocity One Flight Yoke from Fingerhut. ($447.00)....I bought it here because I needed to use my $1600 credit account or Fingerhut was gonna chop it to $800.
Frak Fingerhut for anything other than a credit reference on your credit report
Edit 3 (and last). I solved the flight yoke metal shaft problem with a spray silicone on a cloth rubbed into the metal shaft.

Thanks for the post! I’ve actually been lucky enough to have tried both the Turtle Beach VelocityOne and the Honeycomb Alpha yoke and Bravo quadrant. I know the Alpha Bravo combo is about $200.00 more but is in the same price range compared to the higher end stuff such as Redbird Yoke and throttles.
I’ll start with the positives like what you did you in your video. I like that the physical size of the VelocityOne is relatively small. It takes up way less space compared to the the Honeycomb Alpha Bravo combo. This helps when storing. When i’m storing it I can detach the throttle from the yoke and store both in my desk’s cabinet. They actually fit. To store the Alpha Bravo I put them back in their boxes. I also like the trim wheel and Cessna style push/pull throttle and mixture. I like how it clamps flush to the desk too: very clean.
Ok, now for the what I don’t like. The elevator sticks some with the Turtlebeach. I didn’t notice any sticking with the Alpha. I’m glad you mentioned this improves over time.

I like this yoke system but, as I only fly GA (to re-live my PPL days long gone!), I'll stick with my Logitech kit for the following reasons:
    1. I only fly 3 to 5 times a week so the Logitech kit is more cost effective with reduced air time usage.
    2. The Logitech addon multipanel and switch panel will give me all I need for my flying (at about the same price with my yoke as the Velocity One kit)
    3. As I mentioned in a comment on one of your Logitech reviews, I'm mounting the yoke beneath my desktop as it places the yoke in a better position for me and frees up needed real-estate on the desktop. (Having only 45 degree aileron control gives no problem and misses my knees!) I'll be giving further details on this (with photos) on your Discord page soon.
Many thanks for you informative reviews -very useful to draw comparisons!

Thank you for your enthusiasm! I currently own the Thrustmaster Hotas One, which is not a yoke I agree, but so cheaper. At the moment I am more into jet fighters and the Hotas One is a must. Now is it possible to be as reactive with this Velocity yoke when you fly a fighter jet and you need instant and quick response or is it only recommended for Cessnas., airliners ? Also there is the Airbus yoke from Thrustmaster coming (for Xbox and PC). I wish you could make a second video after Christmas with this yoke to see if things have improved (new firmware and the pitch resistance issue). Talking about resistance, is it a force back yoke? Does it vibrate? Last thing maybe in your next video is to show how to map with one example such as communications or whatever and also if you could say a word on reverse thrust because there are 4 levers and two could be used for throttle, two for reverse thrust if possible?

    • @Huddison
      @Huddison  2 года назад +1

I would stick with your Hotas One if you prefer to fly jets; Yokes are definitely more GA/Airliners orientated.
There is no Force feedback or vibration with the yoke (which is quite typical for most yokes). I shall look into reverse thrust.

Highly useful info. I assume that when you say "GA" you really mean "single engine." And I assume the single-engine controls on this rig lack the vernier that most such aircraft have (twist to fine-tune the setting). Did I guess right?
I just received my long-awaited Xbox-s yesterday and am about to plug it in. What's the best way to purchase MSFS? I really only intend to play MSFS (I'm not a gamer). I'm thinking I'll get things working with the stock control, then empty another piggybank for this controller.
Just as an aside: I do wish YTers here would make a careful distinction between PC and Xbox implementations. They apparently aren't completely interchangeable, and I doubt that Xbox owners are likely to have or want a powerful PC to also run games.
I bought the s model Xbox because the x model is essentially unavailable at MSRP here in the USA. When stores receive a shipment, it's pre-sold in five minutes.

    • @Huddison
      @Huddison  2 года назад +1

Yes you guess correctly on both accounts.
If you want to fly with others in MSFS (multiplayer) then I would recommend getting Gamepass - that way you can see if that playstyle suits you. Currently, you will require either Gamepass or Xbox Gold to fly with others.

QUESTION: Are you getting a little bit of a loose "wiggle" on your yoke where its attached just behind the yoke wheel? I'm noticing that mine wobbles when using only one hand. In addition to the fact that its made of plastic and bends slightly there is additional wiggle or rocking. I play in VR so it registers as "pretravel" in my head.

    • @Huddison

Not that I've noticed on my unit; it might be worth contacting Turtle Beach about it.

    • @danielostrom1672

@@Huddison Thanks for your reply. Good to know. I'll contact Turtle Beach. Basically, if you look at the back of the yoke "wheel" there is a circle it fits over. There is some wiggle room in the spacing of that fitting that causes the yoke to rotate slightly back and forth especially when using one hand if you were to nose down and then nose up for example. It appears that its a minor design flaw and I expect all units have this wiggle room as well. I also noticed that the piston will be extra sticky simply from the weight of the yoke. If I lift up on the yoke slightly when flaring I find that its much smoother. To me, this explains why its smoother pushing in vs pulling out for lack of better words lol ;)

    Dear Huddison,
First I would like to thank you very much for your extremely nice videos and very detailed explanations.
Since yesterday I have also one Velocity and in fact I am very satisfied with it. However I have a problem and would like to ask you for your help. I never have used a trim wheel before and I was very happy to have it now on Velocity, especially after you were so delighted about it.
The problem is that when I have set default mode on the yoke and in options that the plane react extremely strong on very, very slight move of the wheel and the plane flies down independent on fact whether I turned it up or down.
If I have default mode on yoke and a new profile in options then the trim wheel react much easier but in no way there is a possibility to set a stable position and the wheel have to be moved all the time down and up if I want a more or less stable height. If I live the yoke and trim wheel for some seconds the plane starts to fly down.
Probably I do not understand the trim wheel function and do something wrong. Hopefully the yoke is OK. Maybe you can advise me how to solve the problem?
    Thank you in advance!
    Regards from Warsaw!

Hi Zoki, the wind can affect level flight (i.e. it can push your aircraft up or down in altitude), so depending on what weather conditions you have set up, this might be affecting your general altitude stability.
You may find this video useful: ruclips.net/video/y-bli374D8s/видео.html - in that video, I show how you can set sensitivities to your trim wheel, to make it some what less reactive.
Lastly, feel free to join our discord; lots of experienced people in there who can help you with your flight adventures :)

    • @galaxyboots

Yeah I'm having a similar problem - if I look at the cockpit trim wheel it glitches up or down with slight movement causing the aircraft (cessna 152) to violently nose up or down and it then slowly rotates back to the original position so it's not possible to apply trim and have it hold a position. The slider in the control setup shows that the trim wheel is responding fine so it doesn't seem to be the wheel at fault but in game it's glitchy as all hell. The sensitivity settings made no difference for me. I'm not sure what's going on with this at all.

    • @galaxyboots

Ha! Sorted it. Another comment further down mentioned the Assistance Options....checked through and under 'Piloting' there is 'AI auto trim'. Turned that off (along with a bunch of other 'easy' settings in there) and that fixed it. I did feel like it was something in software fighting the trim wheel settings. The stickiness of the pitch control may not be due to a mechanical issue but instead a digitation issue, i.e., too low of a resolving resolution. In comparison the Honeycomb Alpha yoke appears to have a superior resolving resolution by a factor of seven for sensing pitch. And to a lesser extent more linear as well.
    For further details see: ruclips.net/video/9zwNr91WMz4/видео.html

    I returned mine.
    It is an unfinished product.
The yoke is a little sticky, the panel behind it is not active (always lit and not indicating anything at all). The throttle leavers have practically no resistance, they feel cheap and nasty. The switch panel underneath them is always lit so, again, You have no indication of what’s switched on or off.
This is a beta product, and I am sic and tired of the gaming industry using us gamers as paying Beta testers.
They are promising to implement the panel but, they relay on Microsoft to do so and, with the amount of bugs MSFS has, they have their hands full trying to resolve them… never mind trying to implement third party peripherals. So, it could easily take several moths before the light panels work if at all. All in, not worth half the price they are asking for. Not as it is right now.

The Saitek yoke comparison (and it is a Saitek originally) doesn't mention the huge deadzones in each axis. They are not tweakable and the only solution is to buy and install, with some difficulty, a third party chip with better software that gets rid of the deadzones completely. I find the Saitek yoke unusable because of this and literally threw it away. It is not good enough for the Velocity One makers to say the yoke will bed in after a few weeks. It should be silky smooth on the first day. The levers on the Quadrant WILL loosen. It's inevitable. Turtle Beach should ALREADY have placed rubber strips in the mechanism. This is yet another poorly made device that will not last and I predict there will be a consumer backlash once the PR hype dies down.
