    This is the first peripheral that’s caught my interest in years. The big, loud and flashy gamer company does a yoke! Never thought I’d see the day.

  • @timothysylvain4465

    I got a preorder unit, and it’s my first yoke system I’ve ever purchased. My initial thoughts are for the audience they were aiming for, the majority console users who currently had no yoke options, this is a huge improvement over using a controller. I agree, the top 4 throttle sliders need more tension and wish they could have added a knob on the side to control the amount of tension. I also found pulling up slightly on the yoke helped with any stickiness I received from inputs. The price, being $30 more than the original msrp earlier in the year may be just a tad high, but not far from where it should be. I used a 10% coupon so I only paid $365 total with tax and overall I’m very pleased with how different using the sim is with this in regards to the experience. I bought a cheap $5 folding table from five below that is perfect for this and use a standard office chair. When not using just fold the table away and the chair goes back to my desk. The annunciation panel from how they describe it is supposed to be functional but I have yet to figure out how to get it working. He is right about not comparing to the honeycomb systems, as first there is no co sole honeycomb yoke available as of yet, will probably be next year. The cost of the honeycomb console yoke is supposed to be $299, and then adding the bravo to that is another $279. Almost $600 for the same setup compared to less than $400 is a good difference. Yes the bravo has a dedicated flaps lever and gear lever which is nice, as well as tension adjustment on the throttles but does not have the GA sliders instead of the levers. I will enjoy my velocity one for now and maybe next year I will upgrade to the honeycomb once that is available. If you want the cheapest bang for your buck as far as features go that’s better than a controller, this is a great start to dip your toes into flight simulation on a console.

    I received mine a couple of days ago and I must say that it is better than all of the sub 300 dollar yokes that I have owned in the past. It has been my experience that unless you are willing to spend more than 500 dollars for your controls this will be the best you can do. It is the right size, has enough buttons and axes controls plus that great trim wheel. I am sure that a couple of hundred flight hours will improve the feel.

  • @BinaryReplicant
    @BinaryReplicant 2 года назад +2

    I have just ordered this yesterday and I’m quite excited to receive it. It is surprising that TB didn’t choose the same internal mechanism for the throttles that they selected for the trim wheel. As far as the stickiness with the yolk, TB has said that that will be significantly reduced or eliminated with some use.

  • @neomanderx3

    Supposedly, Turtle Beach reckon that the yoke will get smoother over time, as the PTFE bearing "wears in".

    Just ordered one. Looking forward to getting it. I’ve seen there is a mod that can be ordered from Etsy that fixes the yoke detent and sticky issue on elevator for about 30 bucks so I’ll be getting that as well. That combined with a felt fix for upper throttle quadrant should make a big difference.

    I have just ordered one of these for 3 main reasons. I fly Cessna 172 and am at present using a Logitech flight yoke system, the major problem with this is that the Logitech yoke only rotates 90deg but the velocity rotates a full 180deg. This means the Logitech yoke is twice as sensitive as real life and it is impossible to allow for this in the sensitivity settings. One point to the velocity. My personal preference is for a true to life experience therefore the vernier throttle controls are preferred by me. Second point to the velocity. The pitch wheel seems to have the sensitivity to give good control and anyone who has flown the 172 12months or more knows the sensitivity problems there, true Microsoft have improved it immensely but still a little course. Third point to the velocity. As a number of the contributors have said I believe the stickiness is a deliberate manufacturing feature to give the longest use before wear degrades the performance. Just remember you cant buy a rolls-royce for a volkswagen price and expect it to perform like a rolls-royce. Good review, you told it like it was Thanks mate

    one thing i would like to know, which is kind of important to many, does the yoke have a total 180 degree rotation? (90 deg per side)

  • @SteveGoodmansen
    @SteveGoodmansen 2 года назад +6

    I was confused at first as these cost nearly the same on amazon as the Honeycomb Alpha with throttle quadrant. $520 vs $560. On the Turtle beach website it is only $380 which is much closer to the pricepoint commented on in the video. Amazon buyers beware of the markup.

    • @Inpreesme
      @Inpreesme 2 года назад

      Amazon used to post items at MSRP and they just wouldn’t have anything in stock because the scalpers have already purchased everything available and sell it through other venues, now Amazon will post whatever the distributor wants to charge, and like magic they’re back in stock you just have to put up with the pirate prices.

    • @starsky8351
      @starsky8351 Год назад

      I have to agree the prices of these are so different depending where you buy it and live. For me it was half the price of the honeycomb and about the same as the basic thrustmaster hotas one and pedal kit. So I was getting confused in some reviews as to why they were saying its so expensive.

    Re: rudder triggers. The best system I've used was on the Saitek X36, it had a large rocker switch on the throttle so you could control the rudder with just two fingers and without taking your ahnd off the throttle. To use that system on the Velocity One would prbably mean increasing the width of the left hand arm of the yoke which would spoil the asthetics.
    Disapointed to hear there are pre-bound button/switches, i assume that means you can't reprogram them?

    Thanks for this really helpful review. You helped me make my decision to wait for the Honeycomb peripherals for Xbox. As someone who owns a Cessna 172, I want an experience that is as true to flying the real thing as possible. I was really excited for this yoke, but lack of smoothness in the yoke would never work for me.

  • @grantar2
    @grantar2 2 года назад

    I know you said it's not comparable to the Honeycomb products, however if the end user is looking at replicating the Cessna 152/182 platform it would seem having the push pull engine controls that more closely emulate the real-world aircraft would be of value. Other controls such as landing gear and flaps could be bound to the throttles on top. I would be interested in a comparison of controls that can be placed on the switches/buttons.

      @@Inpreesme I bought a roll of 6mm adhesive backed felt. You can cut it into 4 approx. 30 mm lengths and stick them to the bottom of the Quadrant levers where they go into the unit. They provide just the right amount of resistance and have worked perfectly for me.

    • @alanlej
      @alanlej 2 года назад +2

      It is much better than Logitech. You'll definitely feel that the Logitech is too old and completely obsolete tech in comparison. Bear in mind also that the yoke is rotating 90⁰ each side wich makes a World of difference too. My friend who has this yoke used to have a Logitech so I could compare.
      Since I myself use a honeycomb Alpha, don't expect it to fair that well against it though, as could be expected. You have that professionnal feel in every aspects that you don't have with the Velocity One. Then again, not the same price tag for a full honeycomb set...
      The 4 top throttles on the V One are really piss poor if you pardon my french. The trim wheel is great though. The rudder triggers although obviously lacking in precision are a well thought out addition I have to say. Don't expect them to be able to be enough to do precise and well coordinated turns of course.
      As a PC user, one could seriously consider buying an alpha one to get one of the finest yoke there is (it is a fantastic product for its price tag! Still a world appart from this) and complement it with a cheap logitech throttle quadrant that will still do the job much better than those 4 top crappy throttles. You'll rarely benefit a lot from having a fourth throttle, the cessna type throttle is a nice bonus but it's a doublon, you don't need two sets of throttles. You'd lose the trim wheel though, but with the price difference buy one of Logitech Autopilot panel: it has a decent enough trimwheel and controlling the Autopilot with it is super handy!

  • @bobbyd6680

    Every review I've read about the Turtle Beach Velocity One all have the same complaint about the loose throttle levers. One would thing that TB would be addressing this universal complaint. I'd prefer the Honeycomb Alpha/Bravo units, but now they are selling above the retail price of $560 US in many markets. Has anyone heard if the panel lights will ever be used, or will they just be useless decorations? Some reviewers have speculated a firmware update to utilize them, but I've heard nothing definite.

During cruise the MP and RPM will be the same number, 25 MP and 2500 RPM unless you want to use a lower power setting. Reduce throttle/MP before reducing prop/rpm and increase rpm/prop before increasing throttle/MP. Keep up the good work. A friend in Scottsdale, AZ.

    Turtle Beach needs to address the following issues with a firmware update:
    1. Rudder pedals (specifically the toe brakes) are not found almost every time the system is shut down and up again.
    2. Random and sudden faulty elevator axis wheel input to + - 100% which causes uncontrolled crashes.
    And these mechanical issues:
    1. Sticky yoke
    2. Throttles that are too loose

I think that it is on the low end (quality) for PC use and most Xbox users sit in front of their televisions so they won’t have a desk to mount it on. What little you showed of the product and your comments it sounds like it’s mediocre. I also noticed your ground taxiing. The rudder levers must be analog buttons? @igadiz 2 года назад +3

    I am very disappointed with mine and it is going back for a refund. The control panels are always lit up regardless of operational status. There’s absolutely no force feedback (or a simple vibration) from any of the controls, tension is practically none existent on the 4 white throttle levers and very weak in the 3 push - pull controls. It is not wireless so a cable will go from the unit to the xbox and, if you have your box in the lounge, use the coffee table as a stand and, have a dog (like I do), chances are the cable will be unplugged if the animal goes across it. At this price point I find the Velocity One to be in Beta state and, no where near what it should be. The instrument panel may come good with updates but, the tension and feedback can’t be fixed.
    All in, I can’t recommend the Velocity one. Maybe in a few months time when a revised version comes out.
