    Sneaky Trick - If the singer doesn't get that much, or any, louder after you suggest they pipe up a bit; turn their own voice down in their cue mix.
    It can help overcome foldback intimidation.
    I've had success with it many times.
    Be subtle though; don't give the game away. 😉

      Sneaky trick reversed : if someone wants to hear the track louder cuz they're deaf, have a fader not assigned to anything and just pull it straight up. Works every time. The human brain is so sensitive to hearing beliefs, and that's why mastering engineer get randomized A/B programmed.

      Hi. Can anybody confirm please: the vox were recorded down WITH the EQ and compression...and then that file remained on the same channel with those same plugins still turned on? So, double EQ & comp?

    • @timbeaton5045
      @timbeaton5045 6 лет назад +2

      Pretty certain that the EQ and Comp in the "input channel" are NOT baked into the file. It is only applied to the track as it is played out of the track to the stereo output, that we are monitoring. In the same way, the guitar "pedals" and "Amps" are working in the same way, as demonstrated by Jono B when he bypassed all the FX in the guitar channel. What you heard was just the untreated original guitar, WITHOUT the FX. So no, no double processing.

    • @timbeaton5045
      @timbeaton5045 6 лет назад +1

      yes, it's not immediately obvious. But when you think of the example of the guitar signal recording, you see how it works. It seems this is one of the most common misconceptions about Logic. I hope Jono doesn't mind me mentioning another RUclips channel, but I would like to suggest you check out dancetech's channel. He has done MANY incredibly detailed videos on Logic, and is particularly good at explains exactly how Logic functions work.Especially see this playlist:-
      ruclips.net/video/r5C9iXOvgPM/видео.html
      where he goes through the entire audio chain.
      And if there is almost anything you need to know about Logic, there is a good chance you will find it on his channel. Highly recommended! (PS I'm not affiliated, just a very satisfied viewer, who owes much of what I know about Logic from his channel.

As I was using FL Studio since 2004, last year when I bought a mac book, my production took a major blow and I have been switching from ableton & logic pro. Great job with Logic Pro!! Excellent workshop! I learned a lot from you.
    In the Multipressor, he changed the Expander's ratio, and not the Ratio on the Compressor, both in the low midrange and high midrange bands. No?

    • @jas_bataille
      @jas_bataille 4 года назад +1

      It's a multiband compressor and not an expander. Basically what it does is squeezing the frequencies above and below the ones you want to stand out in the mix, *giving you the impression that those frequencies expanded in dynamic*. But that's not actually the case. They remained the same. Basically - as I understand it from my soundman's experience - whatever blue zone you see is uncompressed, and the top and bottom of that zone are compressed to whatever degree you might like. By making certain parts of a large frequency band quieter, you are effectively expanding the perceived dynamic of the song, and you glue it together. If you were to use an expander, the whole thing would go up in volume in the peaks and down in the quieter section, making the master distort and the vocals harder to hear.

    Pretty generous to release this class for free. It covers all of the neatest features in Logic wonderfully, from the basics to some of the things that really set Logic apart from ProTools, for me anyway. I have a question about the volume automation on the vocal. If, instead of automating the fader volume, you automate a gain plugin pre-compressor, would that allow the compressor to take over and correct for minor inconsistencies in writing the automation? You’d be giving the compressor less of a job to do, so would that affect the amount of impact the compressor has on the vocal’s tone? What about a chain like this: compressor > gain automation > another compressor? Does that make any sense?

    Thank you very much for sharing this superb master class. It will take me some time to process, absorb and apply this teaching but it puts professional knowledge into the hands of every musician if they so choose. Brilliant!

    Extremely useful masterclass, with a very clear and patient teacher. I realized now that there is so much more to Logic Pro than I ever thought possible. There is so much power to unleash when you know how. Thanks a lot! And kudos to the musicians who all nailed it.

    I've been using Pro Tools and Logic for years now, but I still picked up some nice little hints and tips from this class, great stuff. In particular that's probably the best summary explanation of a multi-band compressor that I've heard.
