    This video helped me replace a handle today! seeing in to the fork was a major key.

    This was the best tutorial I've ever seen. it took me longer to watch the video than to actually fix my vehicle...very happy... it was so easy I'm even thinking about pulling off all the black ones and switching them to Chrome

    Thank you for your video. Just replaced my door handle this morning. I have seen others videos but yours was the most clear, concise and detailed. The main point of being aware of the red fork and knob was the most informative aspect of the video. Not knowing where and how to place it together was the main factor in separating your video from the others.

    Great job you covered everything. I called three Toyota dealers in Richmond, VA. Labor charges were $120, $200 and $300. I finished it in less than an hour including watching video and borrowing a T30 screw head from a neighbor. Someone who knows what they are doing could do it in 10 minutes. Hardest part for me was getting screwdriver into that "blind" screw. Could not get in in there properly for some reason. Took extra precautions to not lose the screw, shoved a towel in there to catch it in case it fell down.

    Thank you for posting this video. I was able to replace the rear driver side door handle for my 2009 Matrix, which had a slightly different configuration for removing the inside panel, but the concept was the same. I did need to make a store run to get the extension for the #30 torx, and followed your advice for steps to prevent screws from falling inside of the door panel. All went well!

    This is a really great video. The part about slipping the tab between the fork is valuable. Replaced the LR handle on my mother's 2003 Vibe GT with no issues. FYI, on her Vibe, the Torx screw holding down the handle actually has some sort of hold mechanism on it so there is no risk of it falling out of place. Very thoughtful on the part of the engineers.

    This wasn’t as easy as the video makes it out to be. If you followed this process and the door wouldn’t open after you did all this, review video at the 7.40 time of video. The new handle must go over a black round piece of plastic that moves the blue or red piece. He doesn’t show it in the vid. But it is visible through the part of the door with the 3 bolts removed. It’s high up and I had to use a screwdriver to push it down while pushing the new handle over the round actuator. GL

      Just got done with mine, and wished I checked the comments first. Took me 3 tries. First 2 just like the video, didn't work. looked inside and saw the round piece, pulling the red lever down pulled this part down, but I needed someone to slide the handle while I held the red lever down. 2005 pontiac vibe, maybe the setup is a little different.

    Video gave me the confidence to tackle. What is missing is the relationship of the coil spring latches when the handle is installed. I did it like the video twice and was driven to drink. Looked up some Toyota chat rooms that discussed the topic and found the missing link in the video. There is an arm that the handle engages when it is pulled that needs to be aligned before securing. Did this mostly by feel, but it's there. I spent my troubleshooting on the red fork, but that's a red herring. Hope this helps you all.
    Raiseyourhandif you've already replaced the driver door lock control....✋

      Thanks. I didn't have any issues on the rear door and couldn't capture everything inside the door on camera. I mentioned lining up the blue/red fork before you slide it into position and that's all I had to do. Went pretty easy for me. Sorry you had troubles, but I'm glad you got it done.

    Thank you for this great video. I just changed two back door handles on an 06 Matrix. They did not have power locks or windows, but the still have an alignment circle where the electrical plug would go. So your video was very helpful even for a manual window car! Thank you!

    I managed - thanks to your video. The hardest part was getting the long handle piece to integrate correctly. It took several attempts... as the handle housing kept pushing away from the opening, and, yes, the red forks got in the way, too. Note: when I screwed the front screw back in, it wouldn't tighten up, but it wasn't 'loose' either. I let it be, and when done, the door handle worked fine (hope I won't regret something here!). Thanks again - couldn't-of done it without cha! btw, those screws have small 'clips' that won't let them fall out.

    This was clear, simple and accurate. I replaced my handle in less than an hour. The first time I tested it, after replacing the handle, it wasn't working because I hadn't seated the red "fork" piece onto the prong. However, I was able to fix this quickly because the video so clearly showed that piece. I wouldn't have been able to see that without the video. Thank you very much.

    Thanks man! Great help.
    I'd just suggest to triple check the mechanism before you put the plastic up again.
    I found that putting a piece of masking tape over the screw was helpful, so that I wouldn't fall down into the well of the door

    Below the 3 screws that hold the lock assembly is a 10 mil bolt that secures the window track.
    I found it helpful to remove this bolt and push the track back. This gives more room to remove
    and re-install the door lock assembly.

    If someone is having trouble getting the lock to work, we found you have to pull the red fork back, put the long handle in and then push the red fork back in place. If the long handle is in correctly, then the red fork should be moving in and out and up and down every time you pull on and release the handle.

    I am buying a 2003 Toyota Matrix with manual windows. One of the rear doors can only open from inside. Is that an indication that the door handle needs replaced or could it be the child safety switch?

    • @TheHandsOnChannel
      @TheHandsOnChannel  2 года назад

      It could be either one. I'd pull the door panel and look at the handle mechanism first. It could be broken or cracked inside, not allowing the door to open. Good luck.

    Thanks for the video. I'm having trouble getting the handle to move the fork up and down. I see how it goes up and down with the help of the spring, but the handle doesn't push it. How is it suppose to work? Is maybe the inside piece broken?

    • @TheHandsOnChannel

      Could be, but you may have to remove it and reinstall to engage the fork. Good luck.

    So I replaced the handle on Toyota Matrix, ,' 04. Rear door. Closed the door. Door will not open from inside or outside. I think I'll have to go back and make sure the lock mechanism is put in properly. My question, how do I get the door open? The electronic lock switch works. The door handle works.

    • @TheHandsOnChannel

      The only way I know is behind the door panel. You could reach in and pull the rod that actuates the door latch. If the door panel is installed IDK what to tell you. Good luck.

      Usually the large piece at the rear of the handle is still in place. Try squirting some WD40 on that remaining section, make sure that the door is in the unlocked position, grab that section with some large vise grips and pull outward. Good luck!

      Just had same problem on 2003 vibe. Child lock on, and handle on outside came right out. I got lucky, stuck my finger in hole in door hoping to activate door release. Pushed down on something about 1.5” down inside hole and the door released easily. Then I accidentally closed it again before I figured out it was child lock preventing opening from inside. I was able to easily repeat the finger trick. Good luck!

    • @jhoward1669
      @jhoward1669 3 года назад

      Also just having had it apart I think you could reach up with a finger and feel for a plastic nub and pull outwards. This is the nub the door latch pulls on.
