11:01 The reason why the Goal sign says "You Say!" is because this early build was shown at the "Yuusei Sega World" Event in Tokyo, Japan in December 6th 1992
8:54 Actually Genocide City was a more mechanical based level than a level about genocide, it was later renamed to Cyber City which is way more fitting. My guess is they thought Genocide sounded cool but they later found out what it means and they changed it.
That's actually what happened xD Since the main Sonic Team was.. from Japan, they didn't know *that* much english and when they discover what genocide meant they changed it to Cyber City, kinda funny ngl
Pretty good video, though there are some things you got wrong here (that I found): 1) "Needlemouse" is actually a mistranslation. It was really called "Mr Hedgehog". 2) I have no idea where you got 2 and CD being one game from. They were developed at the same time, and some of the concepts used in CD were meant to be in 2, but they were never "one game." Maybe you got that mixed up with Sonic 3 & Knuckles' development timeline? 3) Simon Wai wasn't the first to leak the SW build online - he found it on a Neocities site and simply brought it to the attention of the western Sonic fanbase. 4) Dust Hill WASN'T the name of the scrapped desert level - it was just an early name for Mystic Cave. The desert level was most likely called Sand Shower Zone, based on some concept art. 5) "Genocide City" was simply a misunderstanding due to language barriers. The zone was later renamed Cyber City before it was scrapped. That's really all I found since I'm only REALLY familiar with the classics.
He's been singing for his whole life and he was really good at it and still nailing it. Even in 2003, he was already had over 10 years of experience as professional singer with few bands!
There's a pretty big bit of Shadow The Hedgehog that was cut. So, originally, SEGA wanted to use 2 songs from a very obscure band called Sins Of A Divine Mother (they're not even on Spotify OR RUclips, and some of their tracks are completely lost), as well as a song by Magna-Fi. Magna-Fi's song was called Who I Am, and was originally intended to be the main theme and final boss theme of the game, which may explain why Shadow says "This is who I am" in each of the endings. The other two songs, the ones by Sins Of A Divine Mother, are called All Of Me and Broken. Broken was going to be the Neutral Hero theme, while All Of Me would've been the Neutral Dark theme. Jun Senoue and the band were all in agreement to use the songs, except for their singer, who they couldn't contact in time for the game, hence Sins Of A Divine Mother's tracks went unused. Magna-Fi felt that their song, Who I Am, had more potential than just being stuck to a video game, and so they declined the offer. However, they still publically released a new, higher quality, re-recorded version with their album Versechoruskillme. Hence, this song was also cut. The three songs were still all released with an album called "Lost And Found: Shadow The Hedgehog Vocal Trax", which also included I Am... All Of Me, Almost Dead, Waking Up, E.G.G.M.A.N. Doc. Robeatnix Mix, Chosen One, All Hail Shadow and Never Turn Back. The album was released by SEGA officially, but this isn't on Spotify, or RUclips or any major streaming sites either.
Mr Needlemouse is a common misconception. The Japanese refer to hedgehogs has "Harinezumi", and while yes, the literal translation is needle (hari) mouse (nezumi), it's completely missing the point. Needlemouse was not at all what Yuji Naka or Naoto Oshima referred to the character as, and Yuji Naka himself clarified as much. It was always Mr Hedgehog.
For Sonic Generations, you forgot to mention that in the 3DS version, the Big Arms fight had a remix of Doomsday Zone, but was replaced with a remix of the proper song. And there are no traces of this song's existence in the files, only in a video of early gameplay.
8:42 actually no, desert dazzle was supposed to be it's own thing for cd 2011 it takes a bit of inspiration from dust hill but it's a completely different stage (which also later got repurposed for mania) Also, minor nitpick, Dust hill is actually mystic cave The desert level which was meant for sonic 2 is actually called Sand Shower
This was a great video and you did a good look through of the Unused content. Although If i recall correctly SA3 and the Adventure Remakes were just Rumors made up by Zippo (someone who's known in the Fandom for making up fake Sonic Leaks) to get others more mad at Forces, Rise of Lyric, and even Sega for the reasons we don't have those games.
I think that suggestion of multiple endings in Sonic 06 was just a misunderstanding. I think the achievement was supposed to be for beating the "hidden" final story. In other words, you complete the stories of Sonic, Shadow, and Silver, and then complete the final story.
I would agree with that. It's pretty clear that the achievement descriptions are some pretty dodgy-arse Engrish...some of the most amusingly bad Engrish I've ever seen actually. It would be in vain trying to interpret any potential unused ideas from the achievements.
Well, it's more complicated. "Needlemouse" is a very direct translation of the Japanese word for hedgehogs 針鼠 (harinezumi). Even though Oshima's concept art for Sonic rendered it in katakana. 針 can translate to "pin" or "needle" and 鼠 refers to mice. Mr. Needlemouse is just a very direct translation of the kanji for their word for hedgehog, so in a twisted way, it's correct sure. But nobody who is Japanese (or knows Japanese) will read it as "needlemouse".
12:46 I have guesses to what the s monitors would be used for, 1 would be to help the devs test the time travel mechanic, hence why it was removed. Or 2, to be a hard-to-find monitor that helps you time travel. Invincibility would be to help the devs not get hurt by enemies in time travel, the speedshoes helping them go fast enough.
3:58 I know that the video is more on the information rather than presentation, but man have I never hear a person flatly fail at pronouncing "Arcade" so hard in my life.
3:00 you held b, which brings you to a test for what is ment to be the ending same goes for 2p mode in sonic 2 (holding b on level selec enables 2p mode)
10:32 the blue ring box mightve been for the wobbly rings that appeared in sonic mania. The sound when you get it in mania is a scrapped sound from sonic CD which couldve been used for the powerup, that explains that this could be a pretty early prototype.
15:55 Ya I actually quite like the beta tracks and while I’d still rather have the Jackson version I’d be willing to compromise the beta tracks Then they had to pc port them up and ruin it
I remember the first time I saw news about Sonic Adventure in a magazine. I thought it looked weird, because Sonic was purple. But that probably was something funky going on with the print.

Looks like you might be holding down B when you entered the stages on the Nick Arcade proto - where doing so will enter a split screen mode if the level has no level. Interestingly, you can do this in stages where one act has no water, and the other does - or one stage has no water, and the next stage does, which corrupts the hell out of the graphics when you go from the waterless 2P mode level to the water filled stage or act. Here is how to activate debug mode For Android and Ios 1: Select a No-Save file. 2: Select ANY character. 3: When the word "SEGA" appears press the letters S, E, G, and A. 4: Get 2 fingers and put them on a certain part in the right hand side of the screen. 5: You will then be taken to the level Select screen. 6: Go to the Sound test. 7: put in the numbers 01 09 09 02 01 01 02 04. 8: Choose ANY level. 9: Press the upper left corner of the screen. 10: Your game might pause.
