This was a very interesting episode with a lot of lessons.

But he did that to the guy who was chubby, out of shape, obviously someone he could mess with. Maybe chubby and his friend should have taken their camping trip on Ponderosa land- that is, they shouldn't have had problems if they didn't make the Cartwrights mad. That was hazardous to life and limb.
I never saw this one.. I grew up on this show! I had a crush on HOSS ..HE WAS KIND AND STRONG..
This was the episode that finally convinced me that Bonanza is truly one of the great TV westerns. Specifically, it is the moment when Adam Cartwright approaches the Matriarch unarmed to bargain for his son's life, when a lesser series would have started a shootout instead. Only this series would have a western story take that route.

Great episode also just watched the episode ( My Brothers Keeper ) loved it it's hard to find any DVD sets of Bonanza so RUclips is basically the only way I can see this wonderful series. Loved this show as a kid. Actually Adam and Lorne were not far apart in age.
Get the set at Walmart.
I have the full DVD packs of season 1-5, only used once to make backups. They are for sale should you desire. I had planned to sell them, however they have been sitting in my collection for 8 years now. I don't think they are in circulation at this time, but I have ran into used copy's at Half Price Book Stores as well. But they are usually scratched up and in bad shape. Let me know should you be interested.

Little joe can be hardheaded
Adam forgot he was shot in the right leg. He grabbed for his left leg when Joe came in Adam’s bedroom and when Joe left. 😂😂
So I'm not the only one that noticed that on repeat viewing.

He doesn't really matter which leg he grabbed, maybe he was just moving himself around in the bed to get more comfortable and so he grabbed that leg instead, personality I've done the exact same thing , hurting on one side but sliding myself over grabbing the other side just to get myself totally comfortable

@Ashton Lee And creator David Dortort also made the Cartwrights nicer from the third season onwards. If you stepped on their land by mistake in seasons one or two, I feel sorry for you!

I love the way her eyes sparkled (even though she was trying to pretend she didn't care) when Hoss said she was "pretty as a spotted pony." That would've made my eyes sparkle too, such a lovely and creative compliment! 🥰

I think the grandma realized that. If they'd fought the Cartwrights, they might've killed one, but it probably wouldn't have been Little Joe, and the Cartwrights would've killed most of the Hoads. This way, she and her family have a good place to start a home, and Willow's future children will have the family members who would've been shot if the Hoad family had tried to fight the Cartwrights. Win/win.

Anita sands is so sexy even in that bygone era.she retired soon after this.what a loss to we who loved her ability to project anger sadness and vulnerability at the same time.she had something special.we got robbed.
so glad they never tried to remake this. they would have added sex, and blood and swearing and it wouldn’t have been the same.
Actually in a small way they did. It was like a Bonanza, the Next Generation. Supposed to be the children of the original characters running the Ponderosa. Didn't last too long and I can't remember the name. Not sure, but I think Dirk Blocker was one of the cast.
Anyone who is an admirer of Adam, if you haven't seen it yet, you should watch the episode name: The Crucible. It's some of his best acting.
