Today I'm giving an overview of what will technically be my first Spider-man Omnibus. Check out this video for a detailed look at the Spider-man by Roger Stern Omnibus. This one features artwork by John Romita Jr. that surprisingly, I like a lot!

That half mask thing is just showing him using his spidey sense outside of his suit

I've read a handful of Roger Stern's Spider-Man stuff and yeah it is that good. Stern always had a knack for getting character and really nailing the voices of them through dialogue and monologue. You see this very clearly in Dr. Strange(my favorite superhero) and the great work he's done. But he gets Parker. Also, the issue where Monica Rambeau is introduced is amazing. So yeah; it lives up to the hype. Easily one of the best runs of the character.

This is my favorite era of Spider-man and I just received that same Omnibus today! What a coincidence. So many awesome stories and moments in that book. Enjoy it, BJ. I'm sure you will. Story and art are both great. As UltimatePower01 stated, the art where you see half of Peter's face and half of his costume, that's just letting the reader know that Spidey's spider-sense has been triggered. I agree with Omar and don't think you could have found a better jumping on point for Spidey.

Read Stern's run back in the day, for me it represented a return to form for Spidey after a few down years. Not an "apologists" but I still love J.R Jr's art style even if it is blocky, look at any artist who does comics long term, their style evolves over time. Single Spidey is the best? Maybe, but I'll always have a soft spot for Pete and M.J.

Just a question. Do they have any Doc Ock stuff. Or any other big villains other than Hobgoblin and Vulture, like Lizard, Sandman, Shocker, Rhino, etc?
      Edit
Im interested in reading this run for Peter and will get it anyway. Im just wondering.

You won't find that out in this book. It was revealed after Sterno left the book and retconned years later.

Nice, excited to get mine in the mail this week! Looking forward to reading this as everyone says it's so great. JRJR's artwork here is pretty good, but I can't stand any of his modern work... His Uncanny X-Men art is probably the most recent art that is decent, after that he just went downhill fast.

I wonder what made his skills deteriorate. It comes off as just laziness IMO.

@@comicsaredope Yeah, I think he tried to make his own unique style, but yeah it just ends up looking sloppy.

Agree with you, Jeremy. I liked JRJr's early work on Spidey and X-men, but indeed, his recent stuff is very "blocky" and not near as nice for me. I avoid his current work, but still like to pick up books from this era.
