Roger Stern Spidey was my Spidey. The best Spider-man had been in years and the best it would be for years to come. My number one omnibus reprint want.
This Remind Me Of The Good Old Days where John Romtia Jr artwork was GOOD and Roger Stern was Writing Spidey One Of The Eras/Runs On Spider-Man Not My Favorite But Isn't Bad Like One More Day Or Godamn Sins Past also Roger Stern Is The Most Underated Writer Ever! And His Avengers Run Need To Be Made in Omnibus Format
I'd kill to have this omnibus. Really hope they reprint it. I went back and bought the whole Roger Stern Amazing Spider-Man run in singles last year from a local dealer that had most of them for 2 dollars except for a few keys. This is my favorite run of Spider-Man.
Ive been re reading this for a few weeks and it's even better than I remembered. Truly one of the best times in spidey's life. Fun to see him in that college setting!!
Definitely needs a reprint. Currently reading his Juggernaut trade, and I already want more! Feel like reprinting that and Byrnes and/or Hickman’s FF run would make Marvel lots of money! Edit: I know that Byrnes first volume is available; I mean his second volume
@@sugarray6250 Straczynski is my number 2. And Zdarsky is my number 3. Of all time. It was fucking close tho man, Straczynski is definitely on a higher level than most writers. I put him on the same level as Roger Stern, Frank Miller, Grant Morrison, Chris Claremont, Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, John Byrne and Darwyn Cooke
Own this one already, but yeah, I definitely want this to get a second printing for all the folks who missed out on this one the first time around. Surely Marvel would want all that money flowing into their own coffers, as opposed to those of the eBay-scalpers. Absolutely incredible stuff here.
ASM #230 was one of the first comics I ever got my parents to buy my. I must have been 6 or 7 years old. Thanks for the show. I really enjoyed it. There are numerous great Spider-Man comics out there, but one that I think doesn't get much love is Peter Parker Spider-Man V2 #51 & #52 - Just Another Manic Monday, where Hydro-Man and the Shocker get fired from their villain jobs and decide to pull off one last heist. It's hilarious.
I got my copy of the Spider-Man by Roger Stern Omnibus in 2017, a used copy from a vendor at a comic book convention held in my city in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The vendor was asking $60 for it, and it was wrapped up in a huge comic book size bag of some sort. During the weekend of that convention I saw it brand new still in its shrink wrap at another vendor asking $90 for it, and by the time I went back hoping to get it, it was gone. Then later I got it for less at another vendor who had it a day later when I noticed it again. I finished reading the whole book by the end of 2018, binge reading it for a few months, sometimes reading one or multiple issues at a time. Stern's time on Spidey was a terrific run: rematches with classic foes, old and new supporting cast of characters, and the introduction of new villain at the time, the Hobgoblin. Great stuff. When Marvel released the Spider-Man Visionaries: Roger Stern volume 1 TPB in 2007, they never went forward with more volumes after, and then they just collected Stern's entire run with the omnibus in 2014. I was mad at the time, double dipping on some of the stories from the Visionaries book again, but to see it in one book was impressive.
I would like to have a compilation like this on my country (Brazil). The Stern/Romita JR run is one is the best. "Nothing Can Stop The Juggernaut" and "The Hobgoblin Saga" are two of my favorite Spidey's stories.
One of my favorite time periods of the webslinger. I was in high school at the time and I remember fondly my friends and I trying to figure out who the Hobgoblin was at the time. I never bought the Omnibus because I have all the original issues but I wouldn't mind getting this in Epic Collection some day so I can eventually get rid of the bulky long boxes. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said Stern captured the voice of Peter Parker and the other characters perfectly. I find a lot of writers these days miss the mark on that because not all of them grew up reading the characters that they are now hired to write about.
Oh yeaaah!!my prayers were answered!!!🤜🤛👏👏👏 AND a shoutout by Omar..CAN life BE any better??oh yeah,by reprinting the omni!!🤣🤣🤣(and getting rid of that pesky virus) thanks Omar for another stellar video..i promise to not harass you for another book for..5days🤣(enjoy them)cheers from Greece!🇬🇷
Nice retroview, Omar! I was lucky enough to pick up this omnibus 4 years ago on a hunch right before it went out of print. I still haven't read it, but will hopefully change that soon!
This is up there as one of my favorite Spider-Man Omnibuses (Omniboos?!). Glad I picked it up before the prices jacked up on it. Great content, nice video Omar!
Hi Omar. Thanks a lot for the review. This is definitely an omnibus I've been waiting for a long time. Let's make it happen Mr. David Gabriel! Regards. =)
Currently in progress reading this. Definitely one of the best Spider-Man runs! Totally gonna read it all over again. Gonna get those Alien Costume Saga books to keep going from here! Thanks great video again Omar!
One of my favorite omnibus books! (lucky enough to own it) Great classic Spider-Man stories. That Juggernaut issue you highlighted was the first Spider-Man I read (our Swedish equivalent to #229). 😊 Thanks for a great overview! 👍
Thanks for this video Uncanny Omar. I have been tinking about how I would want my ASM to be collected and would like to share some of my thoughts as to what I see as a win-win as a consumer. I have opted to collect ASM in omni format because even though the Epic line is great and more consistent, I feel like creator centric runs are better because in the case of Spider-Man, there is a lot of cross-over with sister titles to complete the story. Much like some of Roger Stern and the classis Kraven's Last Hunt. I feel like continuing these creator centric omnis is better and they could do something similar with how Marvel treats the Epic line, but instead of it being a collection tied by a story, it is the creator and the actual volume number is at the back. It does sell much better than just going chronological by numbers because by this point, past vol 4 there is some more material for a vol 5 to catch up to this omnibus. And with the fact that there have been more Spider-Man omnis not sold as the ASM main line, it seems better to reprint the ones currently and market the other ones with the mind of storylines, creator centric or some other form that allows the consumer to keep a consistent run plus additional material pertaining to the story that would otherwise not be included in a proper volume type omni run and also have these books sold. But like everything, these are just my wishes and hopefully after all of this and when the next Spidey movie comes out, there is going to be more content for Spider-Man in oversized format. I trully think that Mayday/Spider-Girl and Miguel/2099 will get their omnis almost 90% sure when the Spider-Verse 2 releases in 2020 as we will more than likely see them. We need more Spider related content in OHC and omni format.
Also forgot to mention that what I think works in this type of release also helps to keep issues that otherwise might be orphaned. Though I know that with creator centric omnis they sometimes cut or leave stuff out because it was not by the main people the omni is about.
Also that 90s edition of ‘the origin of the hobgoblin’ was the first Spidey graphic novel collection that I owned and I’ve surprisingly still got it!! Most of my stuff from back then has been lost for one reason or another.
Hi Omar! This Omnibus has in it some of the greatest stories ever told! Roger Stern was one of the best writer's to work on the book. His handling of the character was brilliant. It contained a lot of suspense, intrigue, drama and super action! The "Hobgoblin" was an amazing creation which put a fresh perspective on the Green Goblin legacy! In fact during my high school days when this story was running, practically everyone was following the mystery. It was even bigger than "Who shot JR"? Everyone was talking about it! In fact the hype was so great that even the teacher's got involved! lol. I remember in assembly on the last day before we broke for the Summer. The head teacher asked the whole school who would like to leave early? Obviously, we all said yes! His response was "Ok, you can go if someone can tell me who the Hobgoblin is"? We all immediately burst out laughing and could not believe he came out with that! Brilliant memory Omar! Yep, those were the days! I feel so sad that the comics have never reached these high standards since and probably never will!
I hope they reprint it - I remember it coming out and selling out here in Canada relatively fast. Like a fool I didn't buy it quick enough. My life is one big FOMO...emphasis on the "MO" *sigh*
Same for me, the worst one I missed out on was The Wolverine omnibus that ame out around 2009 I think, anyways I had a chance to get it when I was in high school and I remember seeing it in a shop, I was still new to comics at the time, and I flipped through it and liked it but I was like nah too expensive, cut to years later when I had a job and could afford it and find it going for $300+ on Ebay, Finally got a reprint and I swooped it up real quick. Almost missed out on Sensational She-Hulk, Missed New X-Men but it went back into print, missed both The Astonishing X-men and Uncanny X-Force, picked up Uncanny in the Complete format and then rebought it when it went back into print, also got Astonishing, One that still stings though is when I missed Ininity gauntlet and forgot to pickup Amazing Spiderman Omnibus 3, for Amazing I thought I bought it but didn't, I had it pre-ordered ran into money troubles cancelled the preorder and then completely forgot about it now its OOP and pricey, at least Infinity Gauntlet is getting a reprint though and Amazing Spiderman probably will as well. So just keep hoping for the best and eventually they will reprint it. I thought I completely missed out on Wolverine, It took 11 years buy I finally have it.
great vid! marvel really needs to start reprinting more spidey classics like this. you should do uncanny x-men vol 1 since it's getting reprinted soon.
I love your channel for introducing this ‘relatively’ new comic book fan to great books. I also hate your channel for giving me some serious fomo. But in all seriousness, much love to you, hope this gets a reprint so I can keep working on my spiderman omni collection. I totally didn’t go on eBay immediately after watching your mcfarlane michelinie video to snag one...
I got lucky and snagged a copy of this omnibus last year from a comic shop and it was the last two known copies on the shelves in my area. The shop was offering a buy 2 get one free deal so I also picked up Captain American vol 2 and a Punisher Omnibus. It's very possible that this might get a reprint but in this case I am ok with that fact that I paid cover price but I am rooting for ASM vol 3.
I love this book immensely. Hobgoblin was my favorite Spider-Man villain growing up and it was so nice when I read this book a couple years ago and finally got to experience his first appearances. They were well worth it. This might even be my favorite Spider-Man Omnibus, though I do hope that someday Marvel will collect all of the issues this book encompasses in their other Omnibuses that have the issues in chronological order.
Stern was a sturdy writer back in the day. Not Alan Moore level but good. Romita, Jr `s art was decent when the inkers would smooth-out the rough edges & didn't slavishly follow every scratch he made. Rick Leonardi was one of the best Spidey artists ever. Disappointed they didn`t keep him on the book longer. Very underrated artist.
I understand why Roger Stern wrote Hobgoblin Lives. Roger Stern wrote and created both Rodrerick Kingsley and the Hobgoblin. Unfortunately he left after AMS251. Although Tom De Falco didn't like Hobgoblin's secret identity, he actually did an amazing job. Is too bad he left after AMS285. In AMS289, Ned Leeds was revealed as the Hobgoblin, but Ned was killed in "Spiderman vs Wolverine" (Published before AMS 289), and Jason Macendale took the Hobgoblin's identity (He was better as Jack o Lantern). "Rodrerick Kingsley" in anotherhand was "killed" in Web of Spiderman 29. This character was loved by Stern, because he was created in his first issue in Spectacular Spiderman (SSP 43). Thanks to "Hobgoblin Lives", "both" characters were redeemed (And merged as a one as well).
One of 2 spiderman omnibo I dont have as I lost my job through redundancy but I'm lucky to have every comic in the run for this volumei do hope for a reprint. Not sure if I heard correctly but isn't it marie not mary lol. Excelsior. Nuff said :-).
These are the comics I grew up reading. I still have most of the original issues. ASM 228 is the first comic book that I bought with money I had earned myself. I have this omni, and the stories still hold up.
I started collecting ASM not long after issue 238 was released. Eagerly awaited each month's new issue from the comic store. Also, grabbed whatever earlier issues I could afford at the stores and from individual sellers. I got disgusted with the Carnage character which appeared far too frequently, around early to mid 1992, and quit buying new issues after that and never resumed.
Please campaign for this to get a reprint. What I’ve read, I like, and I want more. Omar, if you can, are you able to speculate on where the Spider-Man line will go now JMS and the clone saga/Ben Riley has all been collected? Personally I’d like some JM Demattis or Deflaco.
I'm reading this at the mo it's my favourite omnibus by far except for the marie severing ary in Peter parker issues as it includes my very 1st 2 marvel comics amazing 247 and Peter parker 85 and if this is reprinted I'd but it again for the dm cover
Own it, got lucky and picked it up in a shop and it was discounted, picked it up a year or two after it went OOP, paid $65-$75 for it, one of my best pickups.
@@NearMintCondition I was very lucky. I am so happy that I got it. I was so close to missing out. They where going for $150 or more on Ebay at the time and I was just at the right place at the right time.
I freaking love this book. This was my very first omnibus and still one of my most cherished. On a slightly unrelated note- why in sweet fuck have Marvel never continued the Ultimate Spider-Man omnis?! I mean the REAL Ultimate Spider-Man, as in the 2000-2012 series by Bendis and Bagley. I see Marvel keeps reprinting the living shit out of Miles Morales' two omnibus volumes but no Peter Parker stuff besides the very beginning and the very end of his run. There are enough issues in between for at least two more omnibus volumes that have yet to see the light of day. Please ask David Gabriel what the hell his problem is. Keep up the good work.
@@NearMintCondition The tpbs sell like crazy though so I don't get it. Some of it is marketing. Ultimate Spider-Man turned 20 years old this year and I feel like they missed a huge opportunity to capitalize on it. I also think the Quesada cover didn't help matters. It's ugly af. I spent extra just for the Bagley cover. Have you actually asked Gabriel about this though?
You mentioned next year possibly being a Spider-Man year while this one was an X-Men year. Hopefully you've mentioned to Marvel how in-demand this one is for a reprint :)
So delighted to see this reprinted. I was wondering when amazing spiderman onnibus vol 6 comes out will it lead directly to this one? The potential problem is if vol 6 contains 38 or 39 issues as with previous volumes this takes us to roughly issue 219 or 220. This leaves 3 or four issues omitted If this vol becomes omnibus vol 7. Or will they release vol 7 as just the amazing issues(224 to 252). I really want this omnibus but don't want to to double dip later. Demateis spectacular run really needs to be collected. The world needs this. Let's make it happen(pretty please).
Great re review of this fantastic Omnibus. Agreed Stern is severely over shadowed by alot of writers of the time and now. His Avengers with Buscema is well deserving of an Omnibus, luckily most of it has been collected in 2 Epic Collections
Love the book was my whale, besides Ultimate Spider-Man and Untold Tales, managed to find a brand new copy in Netherlands. How many Omni's do you reckon they'll need before it flows into McFarlane and Michelinie?
@@NearMintCondition I just got my pre-order of the DM cover from organic prices books. Excited to try their service and read all the issues i couldn't afford to buy as a kid....Haha
Stern is so underrated, this Omni needs a reprint, and they need to collect his Avengers run in the same format
Amen for that
Here in Europe we have it.
(Actually 3)

Gerry Conway was the first fan turned writer (at age 19) of Amazing Spider-man.
Thank you so much, I really thought it was Stern. But I always appreciate the corrections.
One of 2 spiderman omnibo I dont have as I lost my job through redundancy but I'm lucky to have every comic in the run for this volumei do hope for a reprint. Not sure if I heard correctly but isn't it marie not mary lol. Excelsior. Nuff said :-).
After 4 years making dust in my closet, your review make me read it for first time. Any chance a captain britain by moore and davis??
I can, I just worry people will get upset if they dont' have some of these OOP books. :)
One of the best spiderman runs of all time. Please try to do a retroview of the Batman by Jeph Leob and Tim Sale omnibus.
I decided to keep my Absolutes. If you want to see those.
Ti's is announced for a reprint 👍
Tis is. :) And WE made it happen.
Well into nxt year you think?
If you do an overview, please do one of the Batman Jeph Loeb Tim Sale Omnibus
Please campaign for this to get a reprint. What I’ve read, I like, and I want more. Omar, if you can, are you able to speculate on where the Spider-Man line will go now JMS and the clone saga/Ben Riley has all been collected? Personally I’d like some JM Demattis or Deflaco.
Make a rob lifield deadpool omnibus review
I would love for you to do a Retroview on any of the classic Mirage TMNT books that you have
Amazing video Omar , can you make a Spiderman macfarlane omnibus Retroview?
I can
Review PREACHER!
Would love to see the Cap Brubakers omnis!
Now that's a great price.
@@NearMintCondition I was very lucky. I am so happy that I got it. I was so close to missing out. They where going for $150 or more on Ebay at the time and I was just at the right place at the right time.
Hey Mint! Do you have the Complete Collection of New Mutants by Wells? Debating on this book and would like to know your take on it!
@10:45
Have you done a top 5 X-men runs/events or top 5 Spider-man runs/events type of video yet?
I've done top 10 x-men events. Good call on Spidey though. :)
I'm running out of room, Omar but then again April 2021 for this reprint right lol
Make that room :)
Ultimate Spidey didn't sell that well sadly. However these days, I think it would.
New Omni coming soon for ultimate Spider-Man sept 28
Marvel really needs to reprint all 5 Ed Brubaker Captain America Omni's. This needs to happen. PLEASE MARVEL
You mentioned next year possibly being a Spider-Man year while this one was an X-Men year. Hopefully you've mentioned to Marvel how in-demand this one is for a reprint :)
I believe this was on the top 10 list.
I would definitely be all for a reprint. Do you think Marvel is finally taking into account which books are OOP and most wanted?
i hope they reprint this one.
Oh yeah its coming.
Any further details?
Great re review of this fantastic Omnibus. Agreed Stern is severely over shadowed by alot of writers of the time and now.
His Avengers with Buscema is well deserving of an Omnibus, luckily most of it has been collected in 2 Epic Collections
Love the book was my whale, besides Ultimate Spider-Man and Untold Tales, managed to find a brand new copy in Netherlands. How many Omni's do you reckon they'll need before it flows into McFarlane and Michelinie?
Probably two if they want to include the complete Alien Saga.
Everyone here will be delighted to know that IST listed this omni to come back in April!
I broke the news two months ago. But more reprints coming. :)
@@NearMintCondition I just got my pre-order of the DM cover from organic prices books. Excited to try their service and read all the issues i couldn't afford to buy as a kid....Haha
That Was Cool Omar.
I've Been watching Preacher, but find the books Better. Have you made a TV show vs. comic book video?
That's an excellent suggestion.
They're Reprinting It!!!
Oh yeah! Broke the news on Monday :)
