- The ORIGINAL Classic Game Room reviews COLIN McRAE RALLY for the Playstation 1 video game console in the year 2000. That's right, 2000! Back before the world collapsed into the heaping mess of molten disaster that is now. Back in 2K we had hope. Hope that driving games on the PS1 would be awesome, and Colin McRae Rally delivered that hope with power sliding, rally drifting, jump jumping rally car racing action! This was a great racing game back in the day and remains great to this day. Fun driving, cool cars and all around great video gaming. Colin McRae Rally did not upset the original Classic Game Room team. So check it out! This ain't no Gran Turismo 2-tacked on rally racing mode, this is an ENTIRE game devoted to PsOne style rally course race simulation driving! Sadly, Colin McRae died in 2007, 7 years after we recorded this review.

childhood memories this is the first playstaion game i ever played i was about 5-6 years old when i played this ah good times :)
mcrae died in 2007 .... thats why the rally series now called dirt :)
I played this on the PC one Christmas with my dad and it was the best game time we'd spent together since Space Invaders 😀.

And It's still fun.
That game gave me the first taste of REAL rallying, and how you simulate rallying.
Oh, How I miss the 90's WRC. :P

I was 19 when i first played V-Rally and 18 when i played Gran Turismo and this game is up with those two.
I remember this game! I had it for my PS1 but it stopped working for no apparent reason-it wasn't scratched or anything. I loved it. :'(
i was 4 when my grandad gave me his ps1... my dad bought me a racing wheel and this game and i played it non stop for a month
I remember this game, I played it all the time, this and Interstate '76 which came bundled with it
The flute song in the first few seconds (as the "The Game Room logo" spins in) is oddly endearing. Anybody know the name or where it's from?

Man there underarting this game, so many good things.
1) The tracks- that had so much character u could really get in tune and remember nearly every corner. Wounderful charactis for each country, the jumps and flatout out back section in Australia where awesome.. todays genric "DirT" lacks
2) The physics much better than Dirt 2, even if it did feel a little robotic in crashes sometimes...I really loved this game..I think the indo stages where hardest for me but i beat the game.
Ah I still remember playing this game with a racing wheel in split screen. SO AWESOME :)

Colin McRae Rally had some really fun games. I even had it on my GBA for a while, and was very impressed with the gameplay and graphics.
That was the first driving/rally game i ever played. It was just soo awesome !!
I have the original game, someone left it here and never picked up, dont know who belonged to but its mine now :)

cool game, but i think it would of been cooler if it came out on Sega Saturn. WTF? There is an audio preview? That scared the shit out of me.

what an excellent game it was a decado age. I can remember tha my all-time favourite was the lancer (just as nowadays) and I always played it with a steering wheel : ) go(o)d times

I thought this game was unbelievable back when it first came out! Obviously now the graphics you get are far better but this game will always be a classic.

For everyone complaining about DIRT games, did it ever occur to you that by making a subset of the series Codemasters wanted to differentiate it from the other games? DIRT is not a replacement but an addition to the series. Who's to say a traditional Colin McRae game won't show up in the future?
DIRT 2 is fantastic game, easily my favourite driving game. I love the other games in the Colin McRae series, but the awesome feeling you get sliding round corners, clearing jumps etc. can't be beat :)

yes I still got my colin mcrae 1 and 2 on my psone there are a lot of driving games on ps1 but these were my fav
i could play this all day but i only have dirt 2 now so i just keep playing the rally track in croatia.

The first game was in the end of 1999 in the US, but in the UK it was in 1998, I think.
the car damage was amazing for his time.

True, the newer Colin McRae titles lack the true passion of racing.
Best Game ever! They should make a remake with the same cars and tracks, but with better graphics!

The graphics don't matter, what matters is the game.
For instance, this is the game I used to learn how to drive.
And when I got to driving school, the instructor had to admit and say: "you drive pretty well already".
And I had never touched a steering wheel before.
Also, there is more than rally mode, like the practice school where one learns all kinds of necessary maneuvers.
And 10 years later, what do you think was more useful to me today... the graphics or what I learned while playing?
OMG just by looking at it i can tell the driving is way better than in any driving game except for the new dirt series maybe

This game was best fun from CollinMcRae Rallys i ever seen. We had competitions on who would wreck the car on a track faster. It was amasing to play it. Why other CMRRs are different??
